There is a known glitch that will cause this to happen. Personally, this has happened to me one time only a few months ago and never again. It is a rare problem.
Here is what you do:
Make sure it is has enough of a charge to where you know it can be turned on, and then hold the up volume button and the power button at the same time. It should turn on after a few seconds of holding the buttons, and then will begin to boot up like normal. Like I said, this is pretty rare. You will probably never see this problem ever again after this.

New to the forum. Love you guys' work. Been a follower since the G1 days. I got the xoom on Thursday (like a lot of you) and have loved it, until last night. My battery was going low (20% or so) and I used it for about 10 more minutes when the whole thing just shot off. I'm not sure what happened. I tried to charge it and nothing happened. If it was my G1 or Nexus, I would have just pulled the cover off and taken the battery out and rebooted, not so easy on the xoom. I think I might have to take it back, but anyone have any ideas as to how I can get it working again?
exact same thing happened to me, I pressed and held volume up and power and it booted up.

Same problem. Same fix
I just had this happen to me today, so as of March 11 its still an issue. The system appeared to be locked in sleep mode and no amount of pressing or holding the power (or any other) button wakes it up. The little light top right just keeps flashing slowly. It wasn't on a low battery either. lets hope all the other users are savvy enough to search for the answer online. I found it here on xda forum in another thread - hold down power button and volume at the same time. Which interestingly is a trick i wouldn't find in the manual, and i couldnt find an explanation for the blinking light in the manual or PDF guide either. There will be some very very worried xoom owners around until this is fixed.
My xoom does not respond to my touch, so everything seems still alive, and when I hold on the power button it does ask me if I want to turn it off, but since it does not respond to my click, I cannot reboot the system. Same trick as above solved the problem.
More information would be helpful.
1. Does this happened before or after the update.
2. Rooted, modified in any way etc etc...
AFAIK Mine still working fine. I haven't done anything to mine, so is still pretty stock.
At least there's a way to deal with this.
So this just happened to my wifi Xoom. Except the forced reboot method (volume up + power) doesn't get any response. Any quick ideas before I go exchange this at Costco?
edit: This is a completely stock Xoom.

Thanks this fixed mine as well. It's a little unnerving that it wouldn't boot to begin with, though.

Yep its only happened once to me since launch day, but power + volume up did fix it. No idea why it happened, havent had any problems since though.

Hi there. So recently my phone started whacking out where when I tried to lock it, it would turn on and off in succession. Then yesterday, it died completely, and I can't get it to turn back on. The notification LED still lights up when it's plugged in, but the phone won't turn on at all. I even took the power button off and tried to press the inside button that the power button presses against, but to no avail. I assume this is a hardware defect and you guys probably can't help me, but I wanted to get the opinion of my pals over at XDA before I sent it to the Samsung technicians who probably don't know what they're doing. If it helps (I doubt it will) I was running Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightlies.

IF its less than a year old send it to Verizon.
If not, Try a different battery.
If that doesn't work send it to Samsung, but I recommend you don;t insult them , rather beg them to fix it in a very nice tone.
Hello ı was using as usual my note 10.1 however i ve done my work then i push the standby button and the screen closed.When ı tried to open it it couldnt open and i tried volume up plus power button.Unfortunately it didn't open again there is no response.It was jailbroken before . But never been problem . What should ı do please help me.

Just a thought, but have you tried charging? The reason I asked ie that mine did the same thing, all I can figure is one of my apps hung while it was in standby and drained the battery while it sat. I don't remember how long exactly it was before I tried to power it back up but if I remember it wasn't very long.
It hasn't happened since so I can't tell which it was but it was one of those oh no it died moments until I figured it out. It may or may not be the problem but it's worth trying.

I want help ASAP. my phone is driving me nuts, a month ago i got stuck on a hideous loophole where it shows Google logo then reboots only when its on charger, while off the charger it does nothing. 2 days after the incident it works just fine, today i got the same thing again. I see some people hitting it hard enough until it works. Anyway,
what is the best app to disable the power button?
can i make the volume - behave as the power button?

I have a problem. I recently purchased a LG G3 unlocked from a seller on Swappa and the device appears to work however there is a funny glitch i recently discovered about this phone. Maybe its mine only. But heres what happens....
I boot into phone like normal, after a days use, and sometimes when preparing to switch cases and what not, i shut down the phone remove battery and clean the device sometimes.. I notice that if the phone is ON, and when i choose Reboot, The phone reboots fine. But if i choose POWER OFF.
The phone powers off, and when i try to boot it back up again, it doesnt let me, it just stays blank.. But the second i take out the battery, place it back in, and then push the power button once, it powers on fine.. What on earth is happening here?..... any idea? Please help.
