Rooting will give you an unlocked sim, if thats an option for you.
And on "Other", you only got T-Mobile USA, which will only give you EDGE speeds.
My phone is already rooted.. I'm running the sense 3.0 ROM... So does that mean my phone is unlocked... I plan on selling to some one who is on tmobile

My Inspire is unlocked, achieved it from rooting. i am currently using H2O Wireless SIM and 50$ a month unlimited plan, the service is great! although its not unlimited data, 100mb of data a month, but i usually only use WIFI for all my data so thats ok with me, but there is another option, its called Simple Mobile, Unlimited EVERYTHING and up to 4g speeds in some areas for 60$ a month, its a GSM chip so it can be use in an unlocked HTC Inspire... im thinking of switching to simple mobile from H2O wirelss for the unlimited data.... although my area doesnot support 4g speeds yet :*( they have a coverage map on the website that shows where their 4g speeds are covered
Well i tryed to post the links to simple mobile and H2O Wireless, but i am new to these fourms and it says i cannot post links from outside sources yet :/ but just google H2O Wireless, or Simple Mobile, Thanks!
As long as you put in you apn settibgs correctly on your inspire and you should be good!!you need that companys apn settingss for their internet and mms service!

I've been looking at the Inspire 4g to upgrade to from my HTC Touch Pro. I was wondering if anyone knew if I would be able to upgrade on their website (wireless.att.com) and keep my unlimited data plan, which they don't offer anymore.

Good Luck, you may have to fight to get grandfather in with the AT&T unlimited data they really don't want unlimited data with 4G devices. Or you can wait it out, I was told by and AT&T rep that there is an unlimited data plan in the works to compete with Verizon and Sprint but don't hold your breath, AT&T is to greedy for that.

Basically, you just cant make any changes to your data plan (but why would you want to if you're already unlimited?). Also, if they screw up and take it off, you'll have to be connected to a special section of customer service to fix it. No one else in the whole company has the option to add it on their terminal.

I have an iPhone 4 that i sometimes sim swap with my Inspire (Inspire is being used on Tmobile) and my Unlimited iPhone web worked perfectly, but I did getting an email about "hey we notice your using a 4g device" I only did it for a day, while I was unlocking the Inspire, so Idk, it worked perfect, I was even using an iphone 4 micro sim.
I wish i had unlimited 4G
If you upgrade online you will lose the data plan. Call in or go to the store. Also whoever said that att is gonna bring back unlim data is full of it. I work for them. They are trying to get everyone on a 200mb, 2gb or 4gb data plan

Just wondering why would you want the inspire its getting kinda outdated with all of these dual core phones. Yes the inspire is a good phone but i would rather wait for the gs2 or get an atrix. ( my brothers stock atrix with gingerbread felt alot faster than my cm7 inspire). Also with the motorola photon that came out, i bet alot of things will be ported over from that too. Just my opinion.

Will unlocking and rooting a NS4G allow me to switch to Verizon or other cdma companies?
Thanks

Verizon uses different 3G bands so it won't work.
Uh, doesn't Sprint roam and data roam on Verizon?
You can't flash a sprint phone to work on Verizon's network. It doesn't work

They do not but not exactly. Go look at the data bands on a tech sheet for a verizon phone vs a sprint phone.
And even if they were the same, they lock the esn number

Not true. Sprint has roaming contracts for a reason, and we have unlimited roaming.
I've never seen anyone's contract get terminated over it, then fine, make a trip to t mobile.

This is true. Sprint and Verizon offer network reciprocity in their roaming contracts. They will work, technically, on each others networks, but the ESN lock would disallow a change.
I run a Verizon PRL on my wifes Epic and it functions just fine on Verizon towers, but will always show as "roaming". We have not had our contract termed after almost four years with various phones, because it will still default to Sprint tower first.
There are guides on how to get a Verizon PRL loaded, so go give it a try. No harm in it if you dont **** up your profile...but even then, Sprint is pretty cool about reprovisioning.
Yes you can run a Verizon prl on a sprint phone. You can't flash a sprint phone to Verizon though. It just doesn't work. And that's what the op wanted to know.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Actually, it is possible to get a Sprint phone on Verizon, but it would involve changing of the MEID/ESN, which is illegal. More or less, you trick Verizon into thinking its one of their own phones. You could try your local metroPCS, Cricket, or US Cellular dealer as they might have the experience to do this. Also, try mobile-files.us.
Also, just to re-affirm, Verizon and Sprint share the same bands 3g and 1x.

Sprint will boot you for too much roaming. Also, your roaming is not unlimited. 200mb of data roaming is all you get. Also if you use more than half of your normal voice usage in roaming, sprint can terminate your contract. I have seen it happen, I work for sprint.
This may be different when you actually use a verizon prl as I don't know how that looks to sprint on their systems. I've never tracked usage while using a verizon prl.

I have read many forums and have flashed new PRLs with QPST but have never really got it to function properly. What PRLs are working for you guys (Verizon or hybrids) and what steps do you take after you write the PRL to your phone?
Exactly what does using Verizon's prl do? I'm a little new to all of this, but to my understanding, you can basically constantly roam on Verizon's 3g network? If so, does the phone struggle at all deciding which tower to connect to (thus hurting battery life)?

I'm using a hybrid PRL that will roam on sprint and runs normally on verizon. Where I work verizon is not available so I use sprint all day while I'm there but when I'm at home I am using Verizon, the speed difference is incredible in some places, I might get 100Kb down with sprint and 300Kb with verizon, or the opposite it doesn't always work out it your favor.
And to the guy saying I'm going to have my contract terminated, why are you being such a jackass? No they aren't going to terminate me for roaming 100megs a month. Not everyone abuses the system.
*THEY mostly CARE ABOUT DATA ROAMING! SO DONT USE DATA CRAZY!!
* WHEN YOU ROAM U USE YOUR ANYTIME MINUTES*
DON'T GO OVER 300 MB in data Monthly*
ALSO NOTE that if you abuse this u get a warning letter** Ur not just dropped..
Those are the basic rules. Ive long been using a HYBRID PRL!!! and works wonders...For those who need it
Can you guys point me to where I can find the Sprint/Verizon hybrid PRL please?

look under my name and the posts i made.. I have a tutorial
Verizon and Sprint have the same frequencies. The only thing preventing you from activating the phone on Verizon would be the ESN not in their database; they will only activate phones in their database.
I know you can definitely activate it on MetroPCS/Cricket. If you just have no signal in certain areas and want to force roaming, download Roam Control. I think it's like $4 but it works beautifully and the dev even just added a homescreen widget so you don't even have to go through the app.
Put down the details! I wanna new plan.

Simple Mobile for TMO phones. $60 unlimited everything and they have 4G pretty much everywhere TMO does. For AT&T check out H2O 49.00 a month for unlimited calls, messages, and 250MB of data. BTW with either of these you don't have to unlock your phone if you have a TMO phone Simple Mobile will work and if you have a AT&T phone H2O will work

I don't have exact answers per se, but as an AT&T Mobility employee I have some advice and some warnings.
Advice: It would be much better to get a "4G" SIM instead of the GoPhone one, just in case this causes any issues.
When you go activate the SIM, take another, non-smartphone, phone with you and say that that's what you will use. We will put the non-smartphone IMEI in the system and it will allow you to get the $50 unlimited talk, text, and web.
Once you have the "4G" SIM activated, and the non-smartphone IMEI registered, put the SIM in the Inspire. Now, the seemingly difficult part.
Warning: You MUST find the APN settings for our feature phones somewhere, if you can't, I will try to find them for you. The reasoning behind this is that more then likely the "web" included on the $50 package is only one the feature phone APN, instead of the smartphone one.
Secondly, don't be surprised if one day you stop having internet connectivity. As we do with our postpaid customers, we also have a system for prepaid that sweeps every IMEI used and applies (or in your case, removes) the appropriate data packages.
I know that our prepaid data packages are a ripoff, but this is one way to do it, if only temporarily.
P.S. Where did you hear it would only be EDGE? That seems incorrect to me.

So if I am understanding this right, the phone must be rooted, and the APN needs to be changed to reflect a featured phone data plan instead of the smartphone data plan that the droid is expecting to use. Along with using a 4G simcard, that should be it right? The apn settings are all over the internet, i just read them, its like wap.cingular.com or something, but whats this sweeping system you speak of, does it compare the sim card over the air to the imei its 'registered with' opposed to the imei of the phone its installed in?

It will work just fine stock. I have been running prepaid for awhile now and have not had a single issue. The apns will set on their own to the proper ones once you insert your similar card.
And they are right att dies sweep the IMEI but it doesn't matter as I gave reps my IMEI when I got the inspire and swapped my account from my old captivate. Also I font use a data plan as I am normally around wifi at all times. The only backdraw is if you have less then $5 on your account the data won't connect. ATT can't stop you from having any phone you want on prepaid. They tried with the IPhone and a lawsuite ended that.

Im actually using an Inspire via GoPhone. I have been for a few months. I just went to a local att store and simply bought a simcard, some airtime, and activated that sim card, popped it in and voila! I dont recommend buying a cheap GoPhone and using the sim out of that because recently, att decide to start locking the sim that comes with that phone to that specific phone. I made that mistake the first time and found it out the hard way.
I only have the $25/mo plan and i buy a $25 data package when needed. I dont use a lot of data, since I have wifi available most of the time.

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
GSM or CDMA? Search google for you country operators.Ah what the heck ill do it for europe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operators_of_Europe
In the U.S some good options are simple mobile, and straight talk. Both will give you "4g" data but at different price points.
Straight Talk is $45 for "unlimited" talk, text, and data. The problem with them is that they are known to completely cut you of and kick you of the network for "excess" data use. Some people report this coming as soon as 1gb of data. Most say 2 gb. If they do kick you of the network it is virtually impossible to get your # back so tread with caution. If you do chose straight talk make sure you order a t-mobile sim.
Simple Mobile offers two plans. $40 for unlimited talk, text, and"3g" data but most people say that this"3g" data is more like 2g data. They also offer "unlimited" talk, text, and "4g" data for $60. Most people say that they trottle you if you cross 2gb of data.
There are other options that run on att's network but you wont be able to get 3g or 4g data with them.
Check out Howard Forums for more info. They are great site for carrier information. I can't post a link because im new here but just google search them.
Hope this helps!!!

You order the t-mobile compatible sim through straight talk. To find out the process to activate and transfer the # i would call straight talk. I don't have them so I don't know the specifics about how to activate.
Thanks I appreciate all that information.
