MY wife has the Droid Inc. I have the X.
Here is my question my wife has gotten 2 Google Map Updates in the 3weeks I bought my x. I have gotten none. Am I missing a setting?
ur not missing anything as far as the updates go. the dinc came out first so it prolly had a much earlier edition of maps. the x is newer and probably came with the most recent version of maps when it released. even if she just updated hers yesterday or today it may have been a update that has been available for sometime that she just didnt install. when the next update comes u will see it. more than likely when you open the market u will see it or it will pop up in the notification bar.
You checked the versions, and yours is not the latest? Latest comes with the Places app.
Not sure when Market checks automatically. If you being up your downloads in the Market app, it should check then. You can always install it again from the market manually, and get the latest.
As a sidenote: I've noticed that if you install an app from local storage (i.e. SD card), as opposed to from the Market, the Market doesn't see it, and doesn't know to check for updates. But, since Maps is pre-installed, I doubt that's the issue here.
My version is 4.3.0(#4307) the wife is traveling for work so I can't check hers until next Friday.
She just called hers is 4.40 (#4414)
I got an update the other day not sure what version though but I am getting it and I'm on an x

Great so once again it is just me.
I got my answer. I just want to share with all of you in case this happens to someone else. Before I start this is my first smart phone ever I had an HTC Inc. for 2 weeks before it became the wife's new phone. So I am new at this.
In the Android Market go to your settings and then to download. I saw the Google Map update and 4 other updates that I was missing.
Thank You to those of you that responded to my post. What pisses me off is that 3 phones calls to Verizon Tech Support led to Big Red telling me call Motorola. I did and they could not help me.
Where did I get this answer from some chick in a Verizon store with a nose ring and a Frisbee in her ear. Just need to get that off my chest.

While it may not be pleasing to the eye, science has yet to determine the correlation between piercings/tattoos and intelligence.

Keep in mind though that posting here you're going to get quite a biased userbase. People who buy the SNS tend to do so because they're fans of the stock android experience and will put up with a few bugs to have it (none as big as not having working GPS for far too long...).
I came from the vibrant and I'm very pleased so far. stock android is awesome and I've had excellent gps so far. I haven't experienced any of the bugs some people have been having either.
overall a solid phone. I would recommend it for sure.

I came from a vibrant and paid launch price for mine. At that price I have zero regrets and am really happy with the upgrade. At half the price, I wouldn't think twice. Go for it!
i came from iphone 3g, and did a LOT of research for a long time before deciding on the Nexus S. honestly, i love this phone. and a lot of people have asked me about it wanting to know what it is (it's not released in Aus yet).
my opinion may be a bit biased due to the benefits of android (coming from ios), rather than this phone specifically, but hardware wise at least, it feels solid, it performs very well, the screen is awesome, it looks elegant (no branding on the face - a requirement for me). the main hardware downside is that the storage can't be expanded. though i'm used to that, and i can live with 16gb. also the small bump at the back on the bottom may not appeal to some people; i like it though - easiest/fastest way to tell top from bottom on this phone, particularly in the dark, haha.
i would say just go into bestbuy and play with the phone in-store.

MicroSD is not a problem for me and in Engadget's review of the SGS4G they compared its data speed to the Nexus S and found that it was really not much faster. Of course as the 4G tech gets better, the speeds will get faster but by the time it matters you'll most likely be shopping for a new phone.
sd is not a problem for me. I have about 6.5 gb of music and then I use up 1 or 2 more gb for pictures, apps, etc.
4g isn't upsetting for me either. I get about 5 mb download speed in my area on 3g and that's good enough for me. I mainly use wifi for big file downloads.

Sweet. I've been wanting the Nexus since it launched, but told myself to wait for a 4.3 inch android, but at only 100 Idk if I can pass that up. The 4g is not a deal breaker the no microsd slot was.but even now my 16gig micro is not even half full.

Depends what you plan to do with a Nexus S. Do you plan to create apps, or root, or flash a lot of ROMs, load a lot of custom skins and whatnot? If so, then yes. It sounds like a dream come true if you are into that stuff.
However, if you plan to use the NS as is, I would actually not recommend it. I love the Android platform, but I've also been very critical of it for it's, unfortunately, many shortcomings. The vanilla Android OS is chock full of glitches ranging from minor, to annoying, to major problems. It's great that you get direct and timely updates from Google, but I'm discovering more and more that all that means is you're their beta tester. Some people get a kick out of that, and some don't.
Do as much research as you can; like Kenvan mentioned though, you have to keep in mind you're in a Nexus S forum. The feedback will likely be bias and skewed.
And if you haven't actually handled a Nexus S, definitely do so, and spend a lot of time with it. Good luck, have fun.

Coming from a Hero and an Epic 4G, I can say that even with the existing issues, the Nexus S delivers the Android experience I'd been expecting all along. The phone simply feels responsive in a way that OEMs seem to destroy with their crappy add-ons.
If you felt like your Vibrant had no right to be so sluggish with a 1GHz CPU, then go for it. I paid full price for my NS and it was totally worth it. If anything you won't get those stupid battery-full popups or the bleeps when getting/losing a cell signal.
I wouldn't recommend it. And this isn't a "troll-no," as someone so fanboyishly put it.
The phone itself is absolutely gorgeous. I love how light it is and the screen is wonderful. It's funny the hardware was the thing I was worried about most before I purchased and it's ended up being the one thing I really like about the phone.
The software ruins it for me - and many others, I suspect. There are so many little things about it that go wrong that it's a frustrate-fest for me.
Examples?
Downloads from browser/market are unsuccessful 50-75% of the time.
The phone still loses mobile network connection many times. While it doesn't seem to need a full reboot anymore for me, it still requires an Airplane mode on/off to remedy.
I've still had reboots - just last week it rebooted in the middle of the night and got stuck on the boot screen, making me late for work since the alarm didn't go off
Google Voice constantly has a wakelock issue for me. If I don't catch it early in the day it ends up sucking over 25% of my battery. A reboot will fix it. But now, reboots seem to be deleting my widgets.
T-Mobile's service is pretty bad for me - I know it's not really fair to count as a problem, but dropped calls are even worse than when I had the iPhone on ATT. That said, the problem is not so bad when I'm at home and not moving, and the HPSA speeds I get when I have "H" signal are very, very nice.
This is my 4th Android phone - while I love Google and all they do and stand for, I've actually gotten tired of waiting for the perfect Android experience. I thought SNS would be it, being the "Google phone" per se. Many frustrating bugs and glitches have lead up to one very dissapointing experience.
I hate to say it but I'll probably be eyeing the "iPhone 5" come summertime.

Yes for the pure google experience
No due the hardware, there are better hardware on the market already
Yes for the price
No due the contract
...It's your choice to make
The ultimate question you should be asking yourself is
Do you want to FLASH ROMs and Customize the phone with very Nerdy and Geeky codes, not easy for the regular user, that just wants a phone to play with?
if you answer is Yes, then go for it
If you answer is no, not sure, not ready, not really, i don't know
then i'll suggest you to look for another phone
So I saw this post this morning on Engadget and it looks to be pretty awesome for the tablet world. But when i go to the market my TF is not compatible with this app. Nothing states in that post that it wont work, just says tablets running Android 2.X/3.X. Anyone able to download the apk from somewhere else??? I would really like to have this keyboard for typing on my TF!!! Thanks
http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/14/swiftkey-x-virtual-keyboard-launches-for-android-tablets-we-go/
I'm guessing SwiftKey forgot to tick the Transformer if they restricted the devices, no other reason as far as I know.
Hope they resolve it soon.
I have it running on mine but I downloaded it from the beta program site. The last version is smooth as butter.
"Update on tablet compatibility: We've worked out why Android Market says Xoom, Tab10.1 is incompatible with SK Tablet X - we're fixing now."
Swiftkey wrote that on twitter a few minutes ago, so hopefully its just a market issue.
Sweet, i hope it's a simple fix!!!!

If you use the market from the website, you choose what device you wish to install it on. The it then automatically gets pushed to the selected device
I couldnt find it through the app store via my TF but i went to android market on the PC and found it. I bought it and i was able to see it in my apps on the TF where i was able to install it.
Also worth noting, and it is on sale for $1.99 for to first 48 hours. I'm typing on it now and it seems better than thumb keyboard. Way more accurate

If you have the Swiftkey VIP access you could download the APK of the beta. It expires on July 20th. I went to the VIP site and downloaded the beta and loved it. So I purchased the app on the market.
You could always buy it and get a refund within 15 minutes.
Go it, tried it, and eh.. Prediction is nice but the comfort, customization, and overall size and tweaks and stuff are MUCH better with Tablet Keyboard.

+1 it makes me love the tablet even more.
I still dont see it in the market place???
I use it on my Droid X and it feels great! But I'm using Thumb now on my TF and it's good... but I want to tray Swift to see if it's as good.
Also, does the TF support haptic feedback? Does it have the vibrating motor? I want it to vibrate when I type, it makes it so much easier!
Thanks!
I think the thing to bear in mind is that it brings up a spell check box when using the Transformer keyboard. That makes it unique and indispensable.

Buy it from there and install it onto your TF101 via the website.
And no, it doesn't have haptic feedback. The phone version does, this makes me wonder if its related to Honeycomb or hardware.
I prefer having it off anyways. It uses more battery when its enabled.
For everybody else, if you're going to buy this.. buy it now, it's returning to $4.99 after today.

Improved compatibility with custom DPIs and larger phones
Fix Quick Period not sticking bug
Learn from SMS only shown on relevant devices

The app stated in this post is simply a public service announcement to those that enjoy/want the Windows PC experience on their Android powered device. All rights of this app goes to its respective owners.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you ever wanted to get a PC quality experience on your Android powered device, then look no further! Windows XP is now on Android, well sort of. Thanks to the people in team.fluxion, who is no stranger to the development scene and has been pumping out applications since the good old windows mobile PPC days (Windows Mobile 5/6.x for the youngins reading this), as well as Windows desktop applications, we can now get a taste of Windows XP on our device, and for FREE . To save time, I will just use the description from their official Google Play page:
A legendary application for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs is back for Android as a launcher that imitates the look and feel of Microsoft Windows XP right on your Android device. It lets you explore your file system and open different file formats using default programs as assigned in your device. It also provides the common file system operations like copy, cut, paste and delete.
Short sweet and simple, right . This app is brand new (like first release new, hence the "beta" tag it's sporting) but it is amazing, and is very functional and fun for a beta release. I am running this on both my Evo 3D (qHD [540x960 resolution] screen, a bit small, but for those who are android tech savvy with some system partitions root permissions, just modify your build prop on the "ro.sf.lcd_density" line and add 40 to whatever your number is, or experiment with it different numbers. I think there's an app on the market for LCD density modification, too) and my Velocity Micro t408 cruz (its an 8 inch tablet, so no modification is really needed. I set my LCD density to 140 to make the status bar smaller though and it gives you a bit more screen real estate). Without further ado, here is the download link, completely free!
Download it here (Play Store Link) XP Mod Launcher
Oh and P.S. - They have a Windows XP boot animation that's cool too, check it out (surf their website, too) WinXP Boot Animation Android
I'm actually quite impressed. It looks and feels like the real thing.
It's missing the authentic crash every 20 minutes though.

does this need a rooted phone?
Sorry for the ignorant question - but up til now with ICS being finaly an "up-to-par" (by my standards) and there actualy being hardware good enough to run it really nicely, ive always hated using android, hated the android experience completely, but now im thinking of getting my first android phone (galaxy s3) in a month or so and am wondering if i can use this kind of thing on it without rooting... im hoping not, thats the one thing i really waant out of android that i cant get on my iphone or windows phone, the really crazy apps like this without needing a jailbreak or a custom rom/interim unlock, those things make the phones very unstable in my experience and prefer to keep them stock

Though there have been apps that I can't open but I guess it's to be expected since the launcher is still in beta stage.

I'm not really sure by what you mean by "unstable" but the launcher does not require root. I have unrooted and launched with no problems and rooted and launched with no problems.
So I purchased one thing from the goodie good deals they had on the $.25 cent deal.
My question is, is this notorious game "The Dark Knight Rises" will be able to run on our device?
If not I didn't really waste money, it was 25 cents so what the heck, if I get a better device then it will run it.
Quick note: Ok I saw someone comment from a Galaxy Nexus device saying it runs smooth. So I'm hoping it runs smooth for our device also since both devices almost run the same specs according to GSMArena
You can't believe how similar the device hardware are, silly Samsung not giving us ICS!

OK, let me get this straight.
You made a thread because you bought an app and you want us to buy it and check it out for you so we tell you if it runs in our device that is the same as yours... Can't you just open it and satisfy your curiosity? I mean, it's easier, faster, you already bought it so I assume it installed and no one installs and app if not going to run it at least once, that's just dumb. Then you realized how useless making this thread was and put some links to old news in order to change the topic into something that was on discussion months ago.
I'm correct? Did I missed something? Maybe you just wanted to show off that you bought a .25$ app. I know, I must be wrong. I must have read something and misinterpreted it.

Ok... You're thrown off for some reason, you might be hyped or just angry and you decided to let it out on me. Nice to know that you wrote an article to express your hatred towards this thread.
Let me explain to you in a matter you can understand. I am not telling people to buy the game, I am asking for people who already had the game if it runs fine for our phone. You also do not realize how huge this "app" is. It totals to about around 1.80 GB according to Google Play. Please do not attempt to flame unless you understand the matter in hand. If this thread is completely useless then thank you for your feedback, I do not care, maybe the moderators do.

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!
Thank you! I also have to agree a little bit about being choppy on GB since temple run, runs so choppy on GB, weirdly it runs smoother on ICS!

I'm not angry. In fact, I was laughing. You made my night with this thread. What I tried to say in a not-so-funny-for-you way is that you already bought it, what are you going to do? Wait until you get a new device with better hardware/specs to try it? Just run it. The worst that could happen is a soft reboot, a FC or a crash and you have to pull battery, put it again and turn phone on. No big deal. In fact, I was going to get the game too but I don't have a CC to buy it. Enjoy the game.
BTW, I tried Bad Piggies... it's great. It does run in case someone else wonders. LOL
*Also, games run better for me one ICS than on GB. I noticed with Major Mayhem and Temple Run... even Angry Birds!

They need to add a mood emotion indicator with these forum softwares nowadays. I thought your reply was a angry reply. I'm sorry I misinterpreted XD
Maybe next time give more information in your initial post. I read it and thought OK you bought the game but must be afraid of installing it. I would be willing to bet it would also be better suited to post in the theme and apps sub next time. I could be wrong but I do believe that is where apps and theme related posts belong.

Not the same spec, one clocked at 200mhz the other 384mhz and can be oc'ed to 512mhz. Then there is the cpu and ram and faster flash memory. The graphic will look better on the Nexus too. But I wonder why there isn't a way to overclock the GPU for the Galaxy S, or is there?
I do notice smoother gameplay with Jelly Bean on the Nexus compared to ICS.
