ok, i apologize off the bat because im new at this and need help. basically my friend updated my htc hero firmware from 1.5 (Stock) to 2.1 version and rooted it. well now my wifi is unable to connect, my phone lags, and my internet is all out of wack. so i proceeded to take it back to original version and have been unsuccessful. I have downloaded two different ruu's because i am having trouble finding the stock ruu. I have tried on the RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1 now i connect my phone to my pc (windows xp) and i turn on debugging and use htc sync which the phone will connect to my pc. i open up the ruu and it runs and acts like it is working then gives me error code 140- bootloader version error. then i use RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.1 and it does the exact same thing and gives me error code 130- Model ID Error. I have no idea what to do or how to fix it. If anyone could give me some advice or help I would GREATLY appreciate it cause i just want my phone back. Thank you for reading. and ill do my best to provide anymore info if you need it.
fixed
i was using the wrong ruu i was using gsm when i should have been using cdma
try Cyanogenmod and you will not have this problems

any help thanks
Hi, and welcome aboard!
A tip for posting first off: punctuation, and capital letters are your friends!
Second, is there even such a radio as 1.06? The factory default is 1.15, and I haven't seen a lower version...
If nothing else works, download mtty, link up your phone as if you were upgrading it, and then look up the command list for Universal. Make a backup of all your personal and needed stuff, go into bootloader, pray, and enter the command for formatting the DOC(Disk-On-Chip). This should theoretically reset the device into a state it was in when it rolled off the production line at HTC, so you can now install any ROM you want.
CAUTION: This can misfire, and if it does, it does so big time, meaning unless you know what you're doing, you can end up with a very expensive paperweight. USE AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION!
I haven't had to use this before, though once I got pretty close to it...
Good luck m8!

you sure you have a CID unlocked device??
yup I am sure I did that. I had installed a ROM on it earlier downloaded from this forum. I remember I had downloaded one ROM from this forum quite some time back which updated the device without restarting(the device) from the cmd prompt of the PC. WE had to manually type the commands to update the ROM. Dont remember more details...Can anyone tell me where I can find that ROM...

Hi Darcnes,
I have done this a few times now myself and have seen similar symptoms to the issue you have mentioned. I suspect that it maybe something on your PC that is causing this.
I will go thru a few things that you may already have but just need to check.
1. Assume you are running Windows on your pc. XP pls ensure you have activesync installed. Win7 Windows Mobile Device Centre. Kinda dumb I know but still need to check.
2. I think you may also need .net v3.0 installed to your pc especially if running XP.
3. Check your antivirus is not preventing the un-packaging or tagging the .exe as a threat.
I have had all the above effect rom updates at various times. Usually when I have re-built my PC and missed installing something.
Lastly you could try it from a different PC just to confirm all is ok.
hey mate... thanks dl'd it on my laptop and all worked fine..not sure why my desktop wouldn't do it..at least i know for next time..thanks again
I decided to root my phone when it was announced that the Desire would not be getting the Gingerbread update. All went as expected & I successfully installed: Via Unrevoked: DeFroST 6.0j (AOSP FR83 + CyanogenMod).
While transferring music/data to the phone using the USB cable I accidently removed (actually tripped over) the cable.
Now my phone is displaying No SIM card and I can not access/mount my SD card.
I have no experience with 'poking' at my new phone, nor does my wife know what I have done. To top it all off 3 announced that the Desire WOULD be getting the Gingerbread update after all.
I request help. I also suggest that any response takes into a/c: I have very little knowledge & that time is not on my side.
Thanking you in advance :
Sounds to me like you've had a botched flash mate.
Try an RUU (Rom Update Utility) of the stock ROM that came on your Desire. You should be able to find it in the 'shipped ROMs' section of the Desire fora. An RUU is an official HTC ROM update that you flash using a computer.
Let me know how you get on.
Good luck!
As suggested I downloaded RUU & managed to get the USB driver working. However When installing the RUU I get error code 107. It prevents me from continuing the process.
Any further suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks Again.
What's the error message you're getting where it says 107? I can't recall ever seeing that (mainly get 2xx, 3xx ones) and can't find any info on it at all? What stage of the process are you up to?
Sorry for playing policeman with 20 questions!
Thanking you.
Apologies for not getting back sooner. Error code was 170. It was caused by downloading the incorrect RUU for my phone. DUH.
Anyways I didn't resolve the initial SIM & memory card issue but I did get the CORRECT RUU & sending it back to HTC for repair.
Thanks for taking the time & interest.
No worries mate, just glad to see you at least got some resolution! In my experience, HTC repair turnaround is quite good.

Hi All.
Noob alert!!!!!!
Straight off the bat I'm having problems performing my first ROM upgrade.
Following the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849 and downloading the S-OFF utility I immediately get stuck.
Downloaded the Windows version of S-Off, unzipped it to a folder and ran it, only to get a dos window flash on and off so fast I can't see the error. I can just about make out it saying something like "HTC Sync is incompatible with this tool"
What am I doing wrong? Had a dig around the thread but with over 2000 pages....couldn't find any hints last night. I've since checked through numerous YouTube videos and I still can't see what, if anything that I'm doing wrong.
I have tried it on both my PC and Laptop just in case it was an OS issue.
Sorry to bother but driving me nuts and frustration getting the better of me.

Hi,
You have to be careful to read everything.
Did you go to the revolutionary page and download and read the documentation page?
It includes links to drivers you will need .
As i remember it the phone has to be plugged in via USB before you start.
And did you fill out the beta key as well.
Uninstall HTC SYNC.
First, install HTC sync to get the needed drivers, then uninstall it. The drivers will be left on your PC. Also, temporarily close any antivirus while running revo
