Help! SetCPU - T-Mobile LG G2x

Setcpu FC's on me everytime i open it. Also at startup which option should i choose. There are a bunch of different phones (g2x not listed)

Not sure about the FC thing but you should choose the option that says something about Tegra 2.
G2X CM7

use recommended settings. and if your kernel doesnt oc you probably dont need to use setcpu.

No tegra 2. Theres [ARM] and [Custom frequencies] in running Faux's kernel

You can still use it to setup profiles. I run a screen off profile to keep the processor speed down when the screen is off. Helps with battery life.
G2X CM7

When you FIRST run the app it asks you to select an option out of like 10 and they're all different proccesors. Which should i select. I selected custom and [ARM] and they both FC'd after i hit them

Kernels for CM7 03012011 Nightly

Hi,
I am a new rooted user and have been following all MT4G threads here at XDA pretty closely. Can anyone help me know which kernels I can flash on the 03012011 Nightly(cm_glacier_full-11.zip ). I haven't ever flashed a kernel and I don't know what it does and how it helps.
I'll appreciate any info that you can give me.

Well you can use dumfuq's SmartCMKernel or Faux's CM7RC v1.3 kernels. ATM you might want to go with dumfuq's as its the most stable CM7 kernel other than default. You can find it in development section, once downloaded to SDCard just go in to Recovery and wipe cache, davlik and then Install zip from SDCard> Choose from SDCard> Select it wherever you put it and then flash it as you normally flash rom's. Then reboot and let it run for few min and let it do its thing.

Thanks for your help. Getting this kernel now. I heard about setcpu and Quadrant. Do I need those and how/what are they used for? what kind of difference would this kernel give me?
SetCPU - name explains it but if you don't know its controls clock frequency, so you can over/under clock and even set profiles.
Quadrant - benchmark app its just to brag how high score you got nothing special, don't let it get to your head it means nothing as the synthetic benchmark no way translate in to real world performance its just pissing contest lol
Keep in mind in CM7 you have built in mCPU performance controller to to handle clock frequency which you can access via Setting> CM Setting> Performance> CPU Setting.

You do relize you allready have a aftermarket kernel installed when you download any Rom here in the forums, right? Its ok to install different ones but FYI you dont need to in order to overclock.

Thats up to you as only you know what you use so you can better utilize the resource. I mean if you don't use anything no reason to OC it to 1.8ghz lol that way you will kill battery.

What are the differences between dumfuq's and faux's? Is there an advantage to one over the other? I've always been using faux's the whole time.
I keep going back to just using the stock CM 7 kernel clocked at 1.5 honestly I think it gives the best overall performance (on my phone at least) and honestly I had issues running over anything past 1.7 with any kernel but again that could just be my phone. I had it oc'ed at 1.7 for a while and now I have it clocked at 1.5 and notice I have less FC (not that I had many at 1.7 but def more apps would choke from time to time) This phone is pretty fast bone dry stock with no oc'ing but it runs beautiful at 1.5. I dont really notice much performance difference from 1.5 to 1.7 but I do notice a battery difference

i9020a overclocking

Has anyone been successfull? i have tried every OC kernel and as soon as i overclock it just reboots my phone to a freeze (only way out is to either pull the battery or adb reboot). That being said the UV kernel runs fine.
Not sure if it has to do with the I9020A series.
But overall, each NS phone can tolerate its own OC levels. Some phones can tolerate only up to 1.2 GHz, some may be able to achieve 1.4GHz (or beyond). And for some of the unfortunate, some aren't able to OC at all.
Thus this post. I hope my phone is'nt the issue. it would be nice to push a little bit more out of it if i needed it down the line.
I over clocked mine to 1.4 and it was fine, I leave it at 1.0 tho, this friggin thing is quick enough for now.
hmm how do you check your radio. I'm gonna try that as a last resort. And i can set mine as 1.4 but as soon as i run a resource heavy task (n64) my phone locks up and reboot freezes.

Not sure why a radio would affect your ability to OC but...
Menu -> Settings -> About Phone -> Baseband Version
the last 3 are what you want to look at "JK8/KB1/KB3"
List all the kernels you've tried. The best in my opinion is Netarchy's 1.3.0.3-CFS kernel using SetCPU
Try intervals of 1.2 GHz too. My phone can only go up to 1.2 GHz
Yeah actually i had tried all of the bfs kernels. I just succeeded in getting Netarchy's 1.3.0.3-CFS kernel. And i can run up to 1.4 . Maybe the brain fk scheduler does not play nice with 9020a's

i flashed the BFS first, and lost my boot animation. Then i switched to the CFS, and the boot animation still didnt appear.
Any ideas as to how i can get it back?
Also, is there anyway to recover the stock kernel? I'd like to have it handy to be able to go back to it.
thnks

Wipe dalvik and cache. Flash a rom that flashes stock. Like cm7 but netarchys is so much better than stock
You can also get ogdobbers which is stock + ext4 + voodoo.

This is an off topic question but does anyone know what happened to the 1.6 OC support for Netarchy? I loved to see the absurdly high quadrant scores and instantaneous screen transitions.
Thanks,

you're better off asking that in the netarchy kernel thread in dev forums.
netarchy could answer that... not a lot of phones can tolerate 1.6 GHz Oc

I'm going to assume right off the bat you're on an EE4 froyo rom? the safest is 1.4ghz however not many peoples phones (myself included when I was on froyo) will be stable, there were random reboots and lockups galore... I was stable at 1.2ghz but as I said everyone's phones are different, but to answer your question yes you can go up to 1.4

You can overclock with that, but personally, why would you use an app to load a module to overclock? You're forcing the system to do something it doesn't want to, which could easily lead to problems.

[Q] A couple of questions about kernels

I'm on infused 2.2.3 and i currently have Entropy's daily kernel.
I have a few questions about changing it
1) i already know i can just flash over it but, i want a bit faster one, and i wanna try to do that oc stuff... a few things i dont understand from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212485 is that it says only works on Samsung roms and not AOSP roms... firstly would i be ok being on infused? and also what does AOSP even mean?
2) I know it's a stupid question but what is a GB rom and what is the difference between it and other ones?
3)what is voodoo lagfix, voodoo sound and insecure boot?
I think that is all for now
Thanks for any help
First- yes you can flash that kernel with infused.
2nd- GB is gingerbread, its the lastest realses of android system (or soon will be for our infuse)
3rd- voodoo lagfix and sound are a tweek that helps your phone look ,run smoother, quicker, and sound better without a custom kernel but still works with everything.

in the thread you posted, you can pick any of them......Cores A and B just have different clock speeds added.
1.1 of course being the latest, but some have said they prefer 1.0. just flash it with SGS kernel flasher or CWM and you will be good. after doing so, go and get Voltage controller(free) or one of the paid apps(set cpu,Pimp My Cpu) and you will have the option to OC(Over Clock) and UV ( Under volt) that is all really.
no harm no foul, you should not mess anything up. try them out and see which one you like better. i personally liked 1.1 with the Infused Rom.

Yeah, you're most likely using a stock kernel that doesn't support over clocking and under clocking. Usually is the case when that happens with setcpu

Hi, I'm using stock rom. I must use custom rom to use the setcpu app?
I'd recommend flashing a custom rom, as you get far more options to choose from - more freedom as well. If it truly does become clocked at 500ish Mhz, just uninstall SetCPU and you should be set.
