UPDATE: An anonymous contributor is going to help me get the phone for $150. I am going to need enuff for $150 plus tax plus shipping (overnight preferrably so he can get started asap). So with that being said if you use the donate to me button on my profile or send the payment to paypal email jjhudson1 at gmail.com we can get this ship sailing. For the sake of transparency I plan on only using enough money to cover costs and any other money that comes in I will find a fair way to take care of either by giving money back or donating to another dev or even start funding for another dev like EvilD to get a phone. I AM NOT TRYING TO MAKE A PROFIT, and I will even show receipts upon request if anyone asks me to. Also if you don't feel like getting charged the paypal commision fee and want 100% of your donation to go towards the phone, select the payment as personal -> gift to avoid the paypal transaction fee.
Ok people, Zinx was the clear winner of our dev wishlist poll, so now it's time to step up and show your contributions to our community. Kmobs recommended Zinx to take over the MT4G CM6 port, and Zinx has agreed to start working on it. Now we just need to step up and help him get this phone.
A little info on Zinx for those who might be unfamiliar:
- Core contributor to the G2 CM6 port
- Ported CM kernel to the MT3G 3.5mm
- Contributed work on battery issues on Dream/Sapphire
- TeamDouche member recommended by Kmobs to help us with our CM6 port.
That being said, just to make sure everyone's clear by accepting the phone Zinx is committing to giving his full effort into getting the port working completely as soon as possible. But there is no guarantee the video issues effecting the camera will be worked out. The camera issues are indeed one hairy beast, but kmobs seemed confident Zinx is our best shot at getting this thing figured out.
I'll start things off by contributing $20 for now. Please show your support and help us get this thing done. Also if you have an upgrade that you would be willing to share to help us get Zinx a MT4G, they would expedite the process greatly.

Presume we're targeting the $399 no-contract price unless someone comes through with an upgrade?
Seems many are loving the Iced Glacier ROM, but I just can't stand mySense. Used CM6.1 alpha for a few weeks till I had to do an exchange due to creaking Menu button and an off-center FFC. I'm waiting for a beta release to go back since I need camera & video working to make it a daily ROM.
Come on peeps! $5, $10, $20+ is a small investment to get some official CM lovin' on this phone. Let's get Zinx a MT4G so we can get a quality ROM!

Okay folks, I figured I could either hang back and wait for a root / Cyanogenmod ROM for the DoubleShot and cross my fingers, or I could put my money where my mouth is.
I've got $25 (via PayPal) waiting for the first person to sort me out with a way to get permanent root status on my S-ON doubleshot, and another $25 for the first Cyanogenmod ROM I can download with a better pixel density and none of the T-Mobile crap. I also offer myself as a beta tester.
$25 for so much work isn't very much, but if we can get some more folks to pledge some cash, then there could be a nice wee incentive for devs to get this thing rolling nice and fast.
Anybody else?
EDIT: $150 pledged already! This is great! Keep it coming! Our beloved devs work hard so that we can have the best and most awesome phones; let's sweeten the deal for them.
If you want some guarantee that I'm gonna stick my fifty in ($25 for S-Off and another $25 for the first CyanogenMod ROM that works), well, I've got six thousand players on improbableisland.com who'll be extremely disillusioned if their admin caveman didn't hold up to a promise.
EDIT EDIT: Root Achieved! Donate here:

For reference, I rounded up to eighteen Euros, which works out to $26.29 as of the time of this edit.

With the perma-temp root, you can do root. You just have to re-run a script after a reboot... not ideal, but at least we can do root stuff while we wait.

If you've owned a G1, you'd know that various root processes that involve that many steps ARE streamlined (the root process, A2SD, DeathSPL, CyanogenMod after 4.1.11.1, etc. involved over 9000 steps that weren't feasible on a Windows machine).

Not really. Lets just say I'm "consulting" for them for our device. I have direct contacts though.
since the MT4GS is so closely related to the E3D and the Sensation, shouldn't this be a piece of cake?? I've never done any work on exploits, so I'm not sure exactly what goes into it. just curious.. with $125 on the table I'm tempted to dig into it myself.

Yes, it is similar hence the hope that it can be accomplished. The notable difference is that the Evo 3D ("Shooter") is HBOOT 1.40 and ours' is HBOOT 1.44. The Sensation (Pyramid) is even older than Shooter. Point being? We have a newer HBOOT, so things may take more time, plus I'm not sure if the appropriate party received my message that there's $125 on the line.

yes, I see that digging into the pyramid release. oh well. I respect that it's their work and I'm not about to waste hours upon hours of my time trying to figure that mess out.
I contacted HTC requesting help (considering they're finally starting to get the ball rolling on unlocking bootloaders), but I'm not really holding out much hope there.
did you let the team know that the MT4GS guys have put $150 (I'm adding $25 to the fund as well) on the table for the first team/person to get the doubleshot s-off'd?
Is any one interested in setting up a bounty for the dev or devs that achieve unlocked bootloader or s-off.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I've searched around, and you're right, there is seems to be no bounty yet for unlocked bootloader and/or S-Off on the AT&T One X. There is a bounty in the international version forum (up to $1700), but its specifically for S-Off. As we all know, the international and Rogers versions can have their bootloaders unlocked via HTCDev. Since unlocked bootloader and S-Off are distinctly separate issues, it would seem to me that a separate bounty would be worthwhile. Especially since there seem to be different players involved that are working specifically on the AT&T version (and therefore deserve a separate bounty).
I'd definitely be willing to pledge money to a bounty. I'd also be willing to setup a thread, and maintain it, in order to track the users that have pledged, amounts, and running total.
This is provided you folks feel this is a worthwhile pursuit. Let me know.
I'd also like thoughts on how the bounty should be setup (if we are going to do it). A bounty of unlocked bootloader is a no-brainer. But should we have a separate bounty for S-Off on the AT&T (and probably Rogers)? Would this be redundant to the one going on in the international forum (is an S-Off solution for that version likely to also work on the AT&T version?)?
Yeah that sounds like a plan. We need it..It should bring a little more attention to our cause from devs who normally wouldnt have cared.. Who doesnt need an extra grand or two? I'd b willing to pledge $50 to the cause..
I'll be willing to pledge $20.
Please don't make pledges here. I'll make a seperate thread, so I can maintain it, and name it accordingly as [BOUNTY].
I'll still post the above pledges on the bounty thread, once I start it. But are these pledges explicitly for unlocked bootloader, and not S-Off (or both)?
I'd also like to get opinions on what would be done if AT&T ever allows the bootloader to be unlocked via HTCDev. Are people going to ditch out on their bounty pledges? Should we make some conditions, or keep a separate total for people who only will pay for a dev solution if AT&T doesn't unlock the bootloader?
and if At&t decides to unlock it? Where does the bounty money go. Do we keep it? lol

That's a question I just posed above. I think many of us will still want a bootloader unlock solution that does not void your warranty (or at least not explicitly notify HTC that it was unlocked). But it would be good to know when pledging, if the person pledging is still willing to pay or not if AT&T unlocks it.
It would be great if you would set up a thread. And I agree with the unlock method that would not void our warranty. I'll keep a lookout for your new thread and post what my pledge will be.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
firstly, i think the bounty should be toward Bootloader unlock only for now as it is the most important, then if AT&T and HTC decides to unlock it for us before a dev can we can move the amount of money towards a bounty for the S-Off just my personal opinion!

Not a bad idea. But even if AT&T unlocks the bootloader, I'd probably still be willing to give my money to a dev that comes up with a method to unlock the bootloader without HTC being notified. If a dev puts a lot of work into it, and does do it successfully, it would suck to see his reward go down the drain.
And this is one of the reasons I bring up the question. Some people are going to still want an dev produced bootloader unlock solution, and willing to pay even if AT&T unlocks it; while other may not share that same feeling.

Personally, I want Vorbeth to have something reliable to develop for. Don't want him to get a tab that's been messed with by someone who doesn't know what they are doing. That's why I prefer to get him, but I'm just someone who wants to get a dev back developing.
Running total: approx. $210
Where are all the people who use Vorbeth's rom and kernel? Lets give him a hand!
This is for any Verizon device, not just the Samsung Galaxy S5. Please spread this to other device forums!
Recently, I came up with an idea of a developer program. What this program would do is allow people to pay a fee to have their bootloaders unlocked, regardless of the device. This would allow people the freedom to modify their device or develop for it without any issues. I did a little research and could not find anything similar to this (besides developer edition devices). So, with this idea in mind, I sent an email to the Executive VP of Verizon. Twenty minutes later, I received a phone call from his office. Long story short (there was a lot of talk about rooting and unlocking), the guy who called me put my idea through to marketing. However, since only about 1% of customers root their devices, there is concern of the interest in this.
What this thread is for is to see how many people would be interested in this program.
What would you be willing to pay to customer service to have your bootloader unlocked?
$0
$5
$25
$50
$100
Please use only one of those five prices, and no other prices.
You may discuss this in further detail in this thread. However, arguing, trolling, slandering, bickering, and anything else that will clutter this thread and overwork the moderators WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. This thread is not the thread to argue with others over the details since the idea is already in marketing. If you wish to argue or troll, please take it somewhere else. And, as always, please follow the forum rules. Thank you for looking at this thread.
For those who are concerned with the warranty, please read this. Huge thanks to @shootind5nukes for this info.
Just so everyone knows the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act prevents someone from totally VOIDING a warranty. Verizon/Samsung could only deny to warranty something if they can prove something you did cause the issue. Anything that has nothing to do with what you did still has to be under warranty. If you LCD started to lose color or get dead pixels that would still have to be covered because that has nothing to do with bootloaders and flashing ROMS.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson–Moss_Warranty_Act
"The federal minimum standards for full warranties are waived if the warrantor can show that the problem associated with a warranted consumer product was caused by damage while in the possession of the consumer, or by unreasonable use, including a failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance."
I learned about this when I was going to get my truck lifted. I was told if I did it would VOID my truck's warranty. After looking into it further it didn't actually VOID anything. But for example if I went in to get my suspension fixed because it broke they could argue that the lift kit put stress on the suspension and that's why it failed so they would not have to cover it. But if my motor exploded because it was made out of cheese it would still be under warranty, the entire warranty can never be voided. Only damage caused by what you did. Food for thought guys.
If anyone has anything to add please do.

$0. I am a firm believer that the devices I purchase should be fully open for customization.
At this point I would be willing to pay a one time fee of $25. It makes sense it would be a charge since the dev edition has to be bought at full price.

Verizon has alot of customers 1% is alot of people.
Great program, if implemented. Kudos for the idea AND getting a response! I would pay up to a hundred bucks for an official unlock like this, but I have ATT...
25 is fair, but I'd pay up to 50, if it included some insurance for the device. Is also say, that as an ATT customer, a service like this would tempt me to switch to Verizon
$25
From my SCH-I545 on HD15
I'm on ATT as well but would pay upto $50. But my question is if they give a way to unlock it, it would be universal thru all phones. So why wouldn't i just tell my friend. If they would do this why wouldn't they just charge an extra $50 on every phone and have every phone unlocked. No more hassle. Why are they so greedy? If it's only 1% that care about there freedom what would they loose? They would make tons more money.....
http://i.imgur.com/0OBoXTC.jpg
I agree w/ @Cat McGowan, devices should be open for development. And therefore would like to pay $0, but a $5 fee isn't too bad...
According to this there are 107.7 million Verizon wireless customers. So if 1.077 Million people (1%) root there devices on Verizon Wireless and are willing to pay $5 for a bootloader unlock, If everybody pays $5 to unlock there device Verizon would make 5.385 Million Dollars
Long time lurker. Signed up just to post to this thread.
I voted for $50 because that seems reasonable but at this point ive been looking to buy a $200 device that is unlockable so i would really probably pay more for a clean, official unlock. I agree that the spirit of Android should be open and therefore unlocked for free but its obvious that OEMs dont feel this way and Google isnt likely to "pull an Apple" so to speak and tell OEMs to leave their devices unlocked.
How wonderful would it be to not have to risk bricking devices and staying one step ahead to keep root and ROM?!
If Big Red is talking about this then its a milestone indeed. For so long the official position has been to shut it down. Maybe all of our annoying voices are finally breaking through?
I for one, constantly post on their facebook page, email and frequently call just to bug em about this. Keep it up and step it up! Maybe we can get somewhere?
Edit: Which VP did you email? haha. Seems like everyone on their site is a VP of something or another. Maybe we could all make our voices heard together?
I'd pay $100 if i had to, but $50 is more realistic. If it was $100 i feel like that would dissuade enough people from spending that type of money to the point where community development is lacking , just like it is for locked down devices with only DevEd's as an option.
I really really hope something comes from this. TMo is just looking too good these days but i don't want to give up this network.
I would be comfortable with $25.00.
I'm with big blue, would pay 25 bucks in a heartbeat. 50... ehh, I'd be hesitant. This is the first device I've owned where I wasn't hellbent on unlocking the bootloader

I voted for $100, but all of these choices seem reasonable to me. Obviously being able to do it for free would be optimal.
The quote above really isn't a great way of looking at it. Sure, $5M sounds like a lot, but taken in context it is a rounding error at a place like Verizon. That $5M isn't enough to move top line revenue by a single basis point, and therefore wouldn't be enough incentive to the bottom line. Even $100 for the 1.077M people would only add 10 basis points to top line revenue.
All that said, money can't be the sole factor for getting them to let us unlock the bootloaders. They would have to look at the goodwill it would create, and the new customers, as evidenced above, that they could steal away from the other carriers.
Personally I believe we should pay $0 as I paid for the device and should be allowed to do as I please with it. Realistically tho $5-$10 wouldnt be terrible

I'd be willing to pay up to $50. I would think Verizon could easily steal some customers away from other carriers by offering something like this. However, I don't see any carrier offering any kind of warranty on a device that has had its bootloader modified. It would be very easy for a newb like myself to brick my device and then try to get another under warranty...

$0. I am a firm believer that the devices I purchase should be fully open for customization.
