I have a atrix and got ATT to send me a free inspire. Long story.
Anyways on Atrix really only 2 ROM Gingerblur and Greyblur. They are both great and about 99% use one of those.
Then there is gingerbreak to root it. Very easy one at that. Then you are pretty much done since you cant over clock it.
Looking at the inspire dev section is crazy next to atrix. The whole first page is all diff rooms.
I can assume the thread with the most post is the best one but could be wrong. Also since i can overclock the inspire might be some diff options.
Here is what I like to do.
1. Root
2. Over clock
3. custom nice stable rom
4. I am somewhat noob as I had blackberry prior to feb atrix so dont want any of the above steps to be so high level i cant figure it out and brick my new phone.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Root (pick one):
Hack Kit by attn1
One Click by bubby323
ROM:
Inspired Ace
Kernel for OCing:
MDJ V Series (gingerbread)
Note, this is all preference-based. You should try out several ROMs and decide for yourself.
Thats about the worst way to decide on a rom, half the people flash roms cause of the name, just try a few. once your rooted, flashing different roms is the easy part. And the kernel is what's gonna make your phone faster and improve battery, not really the rom.
..
I'm having trouble finding a ROM better than RCMix HD. I've tried many others but keep going back to capy and friends.
Plus rumor has it capy is uploading the first working Sense 3.0 rom as I type. Soo excited!
I always end up back on cm7
Sent with the power of a unicorn horn.
I really like cm7 also. At least until I have to take a picture.
Root it, then start playing with different ROMs. Personally I stay away from ROMs that use or have parts of HTC Sense in them. No need to OC the phone it's fast enough.
I've been using CM7 for the last few weeks. I've had good luck with Cognition HD and LeeDrOiD 4G 2.2.
i keep going back to cm7. just root and flash away and see what you do and don't like about the roms out there. just make sure if you flash kernnels to make sure they'll work with whatever you are currently running

I just tried out TPGB-CM20110506 and I'm not digging the theme... restoring CM7 right now.
When I had my EVO I went Senseless (as CM6 didn't work right for it). Basically as pure android as you could get, but you had the Sense dialer and contacts, which I loved. Ever since then, I've been using CM7 on my Mytouch 4g and then my Inspire, but I think I might try a sense based ROM tonight for fun.
Honestly, try CM7, try MIUI (you either love it or hate it, I think it's gorgeous but impractical), then try a sense based rom like inspired or RCMix. You've got all these options and they're all free, so why not try them all? This isn't Apple, or even Moto and their locked bootloader; see what fits YOU best, not what someone SAYS fits you best.
My best advice is to try out a bunch of different roms and find which one you like best. Personally, I prefer CoreDroid roms with Sense. They run smooth, have great optimizations and eye candy, and the development team does an amazing job bringing new things to their roms and fixing bugs fast.
IMO best rom is coredroid v6.0 with the leedroid 3.0.1 kernel
I was using rcmix hd till the new coredroid came out ... I would start with one of those two.
I like the RCMix with evolutionary Sense, great ROM.
i'm all about cm7, but this miui **** is so slick. just started playing with it today.
Take your time with rooting. It was the longest process I've ever experienced with a phone, but worth it. Once you're rooted flashing new rom's is a snap so try them all. I like anything that doesn't have Sense in it. Also, I OC'd for a bit but found it to be pointless because the phone is plenty fast for what I need it to do. Basically, just root and try some stuff. Have fun. Read the instructions of everything. And BACKUP!
I am sure some a gearing up on the ICS roms but over all there just doesnt seem to be a whole lot out there for the phone as far as roms go. I completely respect the work that has been done and am certainly grateful! However...my G2 seemed like it had a new rom out everyday with so many options to choose from. Maybe it just felt that way because it was my first Android phone but honestly I still visit those forums and see new roms coming out. For the Sensation they all seem the same with very minimal tweaks to the device. Are we still waiting on something or is this phone left in the dust with all the new phones(amaze, SGSS2, etc. etc. )? Just wanted a most likely more informed opinion then my own
What more can this phone do it will match any newer phone out. There is only so much u can do on a phone and most roms are at a stable state so there is nothing left to add. We still see a couple roms updated a week which isn't baf.its just slowed because there is nothing else to add all the roms have everything already
sent from a guy living in a van down by the river
I guess it's just me then. I just don't feel like I've found THE rom. Everyone seems to have something missing or just off a little. I just know with my G2 I was able to find a couple that I was more then content with. (I know STFU and go back to your G2 then) I love the Sensation...just looking for that happy medium that I haven't quite found yet I guess.
I think you have to look better. There is still much development going on, many ROMs out there. In the last days there have not been many updates, as there were no new leaks from HTC or from anywhere. But the kernel devs are still developing like hell.
For me my ROM is very stable, I don't miss anything what could be done on ROM-base. So why updates, updates and updates? Never change a winning team
After testing a lot of ROMs, most of them are already quite stable... Don't think there's much to work on. It's a good thing no?

I guess you haven't heard about ics source being out and a rom. being developed right now for it?
I'd say it's pretty far from being dead... There are some pretty good ROM options out there... InsertCoin, Android Revolution HD...which really make the device shine on a whole new level... And something brand new comes along every week or 2...
I guess if you're looking to download a new ROM every day, you might consider it dead...but then again, who'd want to switch ROMs every day? I, for once, am content with the current plateau...it lets me actually USE my phone...rather than keeping it plugged in and flashing/reflashing all the time...
Anyway, stay tuned...
Well, developement isn't dead, but it's booooring as hell compared to what Desire was/is. That's the problem with having current high end phone, there isn't much stuff to port.
It just look boring because most of the roms are the same as in sense 3.5 wich cant be fully theme yet. Almost every rom is stock sense 3.5, thats why i`m still on sense 3.0 because it can be fully customize. Nobody is trying to make their roms look different like on the desire forum and other forums. There can be many sense 3.5 roms but if they all look different than it will look like a lot of developement is going on but because they look the same makes it look like nothing is going on.

There is a rooted stock ROM, there are about 4 Sense 3.5/Android 2.3.7 based ROMs with full Sense UI, there are two direct CM7 ports, there are at least 2 Sense 3.5/Android 2.3.7 with some or all Sense UI components stripped.
I really don't know what you're expecting. We have basically everything you could hope for at this point.
If you don't mind going without Sense, I highly recommend HyperSensation, as I've seen between 14-25hrs of battery life on a single charge depending on usage (14hrs being with constant, heavy usage and long phone calls over 3G).
While ROM development has certainly slowed down, the kernel devs are still releasing betas every couple of days, which in my opinion is more exciting because the kernel side has a more direct effect on speed and battery life.
I'd say just find a stable build and run with it while we wait for ICS stuffs to be released.
By the way, have you checked out the MiUI build that MiUI.us is putting out there? It is by far my favorite rom to use (yes you can theme it to NOT look like an iPhone lol) and it's fast with excellent battery life. The only thing that keeps me from making it my daily is the need for a good camera with full HD recording, which Scott and TD are actively working on. I have two young kids under 2 years old, so I kind of need that stuff haha.
For what it's worth, my daily now is ARHD 3.6.7 with Faux's 0.2.5.5. Excellent stability, speed and battery life so far has been awesome.
Since ICS source is out I doubt any Devs would continue work on Gingerbread based ROMs. The reason Desire has more development is all the Sense 2.5+ ROMs are ports and so require fixing and more development. Since Senny is a stock Sense 3 phone there is nothing that can be added that aint already been done.
Once ICS development gets going we will see more ICS stock ROMS.
ICS will be better on Sensation. +trolface+

While I agree this phone isn't completely dead, you should look at some other phones out there. The vibrant for example or desire have had and still have more and more diversified roms. Most of our sensation roms are just sense over and over again. Anyway just my 2 cents.

Seems to be related to Sense being more popular on Sensation than other phones, in this case the users here lack interest in CM & AOSP & MIUI. There is some interest but that doesn't make up the majority of the users of Sensation; I find it quite odd since normally MIUI & Vanilla would have more users than the stock UIs(based on my past phone experiences). If people cared more for CM/MIUI/AOSP, then development may be much better, a new MIUI ROM would be made every week by TheDerekJay when I had MT4G, and I miss this kind of updating on my Sensation. Not to say devs here don't update, can't really say the rate of updates is equal IMO.
Ive enjoyed all the development that goes on for sensation. Was this thread posted before actually looking at the dev section??? 2 pages of roms are at least updated every 2 weeks
i have htc Sensation and the development
there r many roms running sense 3.0 / 3.5 but all of them resemble each
and the development for ICS it's slow in Sensation
there r many devices run ICS with working touch screen and every day have update .. last ICS update for ICS before 5 days and i think the rom not a flashable file
I bought the Sensation to replace my Desire, and it's true that I am a bit disappointed after the number of ROM available for Desire ... but Sensation's ROM are very good, I miss a really stable AOSP ROM and it could be perfect!
ROMs have gotten to the point where they are pretty much stable, what more can you ask for?
I think you'll start seeing things as HTC releases more for our devs to customize the ish out of.
Currently running the ICS beta, and while I really enjoy the look, no camera, and limited app functionality are driving me insane. So while I wait for this awesome ICS to be finished, what should i use?
I'm pretty new to the root scene, but have done ICS and ClearDroid. I'd really like limited force closes and facebook.
If you like HTC Sense, give Virtuous Affinity a run. If you want a plain ROM, CM7 is solid. Me, I keep trying diff ROMs out, but I keep going back to MIUI. It's based off of CM7 and is as slick of a ROM as you will find. Others can comment on other ROMs, but those are the ones I've had experience with in the past few months.
Give MIUI a try at least once and nothing else will seem as smooth ever again.
Id wait for the ics to be outta beta. The android revolution rom is real nice if you like sense.

I just got my Asurion replacement Senny(my previous Senny was stolen on Friday 3/16). I now need to S-Off, SuperCID, root, change recovery, etc all over again. I was thinking about keeping it stock since I thought the T-Mobile ICS update was imminent. If it's not, I might as well install ARHD, InsertCoin, or Virtuous. In lieu of trying to read through the 200+ pages of posts in the developer's sections, can someone quickly outline how far the developers have come with the ICS roms. I installed ICS (InsertCoin) a few months ago, but there were too many bugs. With official ICS Ruu's being released, are the custom ICS Roms stable enough for the Tmobile branded Senny 4G?
Are we at Daily Driver stage?!
P.S.
It seems like the only issue with ICS right now is TMob's Wifi Calling, which I never use.
Now the kernel source has been released we're pretty much there in terms of stability. TMOUS OTA will round things up nicely
every ICS custom ROM ive flashed has been stable. Every ICS ROM thread ive read said it was stable.
Id say they are stable lol
Most ROMs are stable even AOSP but only ROMs based on 3.6 have everything working.

They have been stable for months. Try a few and enjoy
Iv been around since the sensation was released and it has been a long haul to get some stability and performance from these phones, they had the power just didn't have the right pair with software code. The transfer from GB to ICS showed a noticeable increase in performance even from the untouched 3.6 OTA ROM but the performance is not perfect, it is good and a lot better than GB but not perfect (perfectionist here). AOSP ROMS offer higher performance in regards to UI experience but lack in stability and variety, i have managed to find the cm9 rom recently the most stable and fastest rom in UI performance and stability.
This is my list of great rom's for the different ones that there are.
ARHD 6.5.2 (STABLE AND MOFO FAST) (SENSE 3.6)
OPENSENSATION CM9 (STABLE AND FASTEST) (AOSP)
MIUI (STABLE BUT NOT FAST) (SENSELESS NOT AOSP)
MIUI TRIPNRAVER (FAST BUT NOT STABLE) (AOSP)
Yet to find a sense 4.0 stable rom yet.
I have tried many others but these stand out on top of each of the different roms there are.
JUST MY OPINION.
Biggest issues with ICS ROMs for us TMobilie US users are the included TMo apps (My Account/Account manager) and WiFi Calling.
Account manger doesn't work, flat out.
Wi Fi calling will work, but it'll drop calls sometimes a minute or two in.
The latest AHRD with the change that keeps the launcher in memory is really smoking.
Great battery life, super stable and smoking fast...
Just nandroid and try a few....
Thanks for all of the fast responses. There is a reason that I spend so much time on XDA. Awesome Community!!
Rockfoo.
I know there were posts with official ICS ROMs, you can flash one.
As T-mo user I'm a bit hesitant to flush it now, waiting for official OTA.
Of course T-mo is loading ROM with their crap right now and who knows when it will be released. I'll wait for coupe of weeks and if nothing comes out, I will flash the one I saw in EddyOS' post somewhere. It's an original HTC ROM minus T-mo bloatware.
JMO.
I took the dive and S-off'd, rooted, SuperCID'd, installed 4ext, nandroid backup'd, upgraded the firmware, and installed ARHD. It's fast, smooth and so far everything works. Only issue is that I HATE SENSE 3.6. I came from the LG G2X with all of it's AOSP goodness. Problem was the actual hardware was a travesty! My brother-in-law and my girlfriend had HTC phones and I used to think their phones were the ****! And Sense was great until I started downloading and using other developers launchers, messaging apps, etc.
Somehow, Sense 3.0 never really bothered me, but 3.6 completely hides all of ICS's goodness in my opinion. As most of the innovation that HTC developed in Sense is has been incorporated into ICS, Sense 3.6 is largely irrelevant. Sense 3.6 is just in the way!
Since most of the heavy lifting is done, I think that I can now just flash a different ICS rom...right?
I'd like to try ICS as it was intended.
Yes they are cause we have final ota base and also the kernel source... They're perfect

I've been running custom ICS roms for a long time, and i will say that they are now completely stable, no FC's or stuff that does not work
Hey guys, been a fan of XDA for years, infinite amounts of knowledge here it seems, and I know nothing. While I could spend years reading all the posts and searching, I figured some of the more knowledgable members may be able to answer a couple quick questions without giving me TOO big of a hard time.
I have had my G2x for about a year which is running 2.3.4, March 2011 baseband. I used to own a G1 and a Motorola Cliq and had experimented with rooting it. I am looking for something new and different, as I'm kind of sick of regular old GB. There is so much knowledge here, and on some ROMs 100's of pages of stuff to read, which unfortuantely most of which I find confusing. I know nothing about baseband versions, radios, etc. I plan on researching a lot of these things, as thats obviously the only way to learn.
My Fiance and I both have the G2x, and are both needing to be hard reset and they're running slowly and the battery seems to be draining faster and faster. I planned to do a hard reset this weekend, but figured I may experiment with rooting and custom roms. If you guys can answer some questions for me, I'd greatly appreiciate it! I know that all this information is likely out there, although I feel completely lost and overwhelmed, unsure where to begin. I had the following questions.
If I decide to root the phone, and try different roms am I always able to "unroot" the phone and bring it back to factory just as it is now? Is this general rooting guide good for 2.3.4? Can I root without loading a custom Rom? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594650
I had been noticing that with Hellfire Sandwhich, and EaglesBlood there are some known issues, like bluetooth I believe, but I'm having a hard time seeing what isn't working currently. I would like to try ICS, but want something stable where I'm not going to experience a lot of programs not working. I don't do a lot on my phone but would like all the little things to work. How would I find "current bugs" or something similar, as there are hundreds of posts I can't seem to find the information.
Is there a certain rom that most people recommend for ICS that is more stable, possible CM?
How common is it to completely brick your phone, if you're not an idiot and follow instructions?
I was told when I bought the phone that it would receive ICS OTA, but this seems debateable. Am I better off waiting to see if this happens, or what do you guys recommend?
I'm sorry this seems like a stupid post, and that I haven't done any reading, because I have, I'm just confused as hell. I REALLY appreciate everyone's help! I've always enjoying messing with phones, although there is just too much to it with Radios, baseband, kernels, all of which I know nothing about, and mean nothing to me at this point. THANKS guys!
That guide will work for you. The good news is that the G2x is close to impossible to brick (it can be done, but definitely takes some talent). NVflash can be used 98% of the time to fix your phone.
As far as ROMs go, you have to experiment. Every G2x is different, and handle different setups differently. With that being said, Kwes's rooted stock ROM fixed a lot of the problems I had with my G2x. If you're bored with stock, most CM7 based ROMs are very stable. As far as ICS goes, Genesis was always my favorite, and the most reliable for me. I recently started playing with Paranoid Android CM9, and so far it works great, and provides a really unique experience.
Just read the first few posts of every ROM and it should provide you with most of the information you need to make a good decision. Hope this helps, and happy flashing!

I've tried pretty much every ROM available (save for quite a few GB ROMs and two JB ROMs), and I feel that the CM10 Paranoid Android is the smoothest ROM available. Every ICS ROM is smooth when you first install it (and I especially love all the features in Domination and Genesis), but after a week or so of use, your phone will start lagging again. With PA, lag is at a minimum. I was on CM9 PA last before getting sick of lag before switching to a GB ROM for a month or so, then decided to finally try out CM10 PA because I just missed flashing new ROMs and I was very impressed. CM10 version runs WAY better than CM9.
I just rooted my phone about 1 week ago and used the guide that the OP posted..everything worked great...I'm currently running hellfire 2.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420972&highlight=hellfire+2+3) and freaking loving it...sooo much better than stock...basically follow the directions from the thread you posted and you'll be fine...
It depends on how important it is to you to have good picture quality with your phone. Even though this phone doesn't have the greatest camera, the stock camera is the best. If you flash to a CM ROM the quality is horrible. I love the performance of CM, but the camera quality was a deal breaker for me.
I ended up trying some stock 2.3.3 roms, but I have ended up back on my rooted stock running 2.3.4 with some tweaks from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806868&highlight=tweaks and I am running faux's 14b2 kernel. With these two things my phone runs really good.

Do you have a link to the CM10 Paranoid Android you're referring to? That's the one. It's no less buggy than any ICS ROM if that's the flavor your going for. CM10 is smoother than CM9. At least in my experience. Does anyone else want to chime in?
The only thing that took me back to CM9 was the battery drain issue on CM10.
On a different note: my phone only likes stock ROMs, but I recent found out about Weapon a New Clip, and it is pretty sweet, and just as reliable as anything else I've ever used

CM10 Paranoid looks soo beautiful and I'm really tempted to try it out, but I have a really good thing going on right now with the hellfire...it's super stable and smooth plus I have a ics theme on it so that keeps things fresh for me. I do have one question for those on CM10 Paranoid. Is it stable enough that you can run the 4.2 gapps or any themes/launchers on it??

Hey guys, I rooted my phone and installed Hellfire sandwhich about a month ago. The rom seemed to run good at first, and progressively get slower. I just picked up a Nexus 7 and have no desire to run custom roms on my phone anymore as the tablet has all the bells and whistles, therefore at this point i want to bring my phone back to original condition.
I used this guide to root my phone - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1594650 and installed HFS from there. I am looking at threads to unroot and some of them are using ADB. The first thing that I did is to load my Nandroid backup from when I oringinally rooted my phone, and I am receiving the message saying "Checking MD5 sums...MD5 mismatch!". I have gone to this thread- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114, but I am unable to access my phone via ADB, as it's saying "Error: Device not found". I have tried to boot into CWM and plug the phone in there, but appears that all my drivers are not loading - http://puu.sh/1JH8J and it's still saying device not found. I have tried enabling USB debugging, as well as turning it off. When I plug the phone in, I only have the option of "Media Device (MTP)" or "Camera (PTP), no "charge only" option under "USB Computer Connection".
I am unsure what to do at this point. I have installed the "LGUnitedMobileDriver S4981MAN38AP22 ML WHQL Ver 3.8.1" drivers and still receiving the same error. Sorry if this has been addressed, as I'm sure it has, but can someone point me in the right direction. Thank you!

I have tried this, and that's when I'm receiving the "Checking MD5 sums...MD5 mismatch!" error after choosing to restore.

I'm sick of gingerbread!
I want sum different. I've had eaglesblood 2.3.4 for years on my g2x and I have tried
Hellfire - works for a while then stuff goes wrong after a wk or so
Tried ICS - stuff is always wrong
On MIUI - and simple stuff is not working after days
I have been flashing phones for a very long time and all the ROMs above I have flashed over n over again and the fact still remains. They DONT Work!
I'm about to flash my eaglesblood back because that's the only thing that works the longest wit no bugs.
is there anything available besides eaglesblood that's stable?
geesh!!

I think Marie Antoinette said, If they don't like Gingerbread then let them eat cake, or something similar.
