Yeah, I read that scaremongering lack-of-specific-detail article earlier tonight.
I also read an update article that says to ignore the first one.
I had Auto-call Recorder for Windows Mobile and it was great. It recorded all calls, both sides clearly. Even those drunken calls to the Indian guy at HP support. Great app. Came in handy when bossing around Geek Squad and holding them to customer support promises.
I use Tape-a-talk pro
search for an app called : "Tape-a-talk" hope i helped bud, if so thank me, or not.
Google Voice does this. Google it to find out how.

Thanks for the input, but not what I was looking for.
Tape-a-talk is a manual voice recorder. I'd have to turn it on before answering the ring it before dialing and turn it off each time I was done. Not to mention there are several unprompted reviews stating that it doesn't record calls,
And Google Voice only records incoming calls, not outgoing, and even then, you have to force a statement before you pick up. I live in a state that doesn't require both party's consents to use the recording. Also, these are meant for my personal use. Many people think you can't record the call. You actually can in those states but you can't use them in court, or for business or shared entertainment reasons. Plus you can always obtain consent after the fact (this is how professional prank callers get the ability to play their recordings on tape or release them publicly).
I'm looking for an app that runs all the time and *clearly* auto-records whenever a call is picked up or dialed out and stores it as an audio file locally.

I took my time to do some research and the #1 favorite was Total recall. I don't think it's free tough. Well at least you can try it out for 14 days.

Thanks! I'll give it a go.
I previously used Total Recall to record conversations all the time (for work purposes), it was a great app for the most part.
The app would freeze after recording a long conversation (you just had to leave the phone alone for a few minutes and let it do its thing).
Other than that it was great. I don't know if its compatible with newer phones though. I only used it on my G1
A member of Xda named skvalex has one named callrecorder that works really nice. Not sure if it runs on the mytouch 4g slide yet! I'm running it on a mytouch 4g with a doubleshot rom and it works great.
You can go to this thread and find trials for it.

My touch and Call Recorder
I've tried the Call Recorder on my TMobile mytouch slide 4G and I can't get it running.
I've rooted it with superuser, applied the kernel and it won't store anything. it says it's running in the toasts but there's nothing in the files. if I shut off the kernel and go the standart api, it logs the call but records nothing.
I've tried variables, I bought it off the market when I misread that it worked for my phone. I'm similar to many in these threads where it's legal and I need to make sure folks stick to their agreement on business matters.
Any information you might offer would be greatly appreciated. I've tried selecting calls after they've started also.
I'd be appreciative if you could keep it simple for me, I'm recently disabled and find that the meds and issue itself doesn't aid in my comprehension at times.
thanks

still lookin for a call recorder 4 android...
Just wanted to say that I'm in the same situation
I've been recording ALL my calls since 2006 with a crappy nokia N70 (symbian s60) with an amazing app called "ultimate call recorder" by ultimateportable.
Never had a problem. When my mem card was full, the oldest calls were deleted, the app started and stopped automatically with my phone so
I didn't need to worry about it, only when I needded to look for a concrete recorded call for some reason. No beeps during call or other strange sounds, just...a good portion of code doing its job.
Now I've just migrated to android, I can play guitar with my phone, there are apps for...everything, but I still haven't found a good app who can even do a piece of what "ultimate call recorder" use to do in my old symbian s60 phone. At the end of the day, I'm using a phone...not a guitar, a game console or a music player. So I want it to do its job as a phone of this age and record my calls like the 2006 nokia N70 still does

My state requires a consent statement for recording a private conversation. To record one otherwise is actually criminal.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I recommend this one:
callrecorder
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skvalex.callrecorder&hl=en
It requires root and kernel with 2-way calling enabled to allow recording 'from line' instead of 'from mic'. The kernel with CM9 or virtuous inquisition has this feature enabled.
It is not perfect (in my opinion) and on my phone it records my side louder than incoming side, but it is adequate to hear and understand both sides of the conversation on playback and works automatically to record all calls if set up to do so.

Try out reading the Revised Code of the State of Washington - RCW 9.73.030 and. 9.73.080.
Basically if you record a private conversation without the consent of all parties you have committed a Gross Misdemeanor if any of those people recording or requiring consent but haven't given such are within the state of Washington at the time of recording. You could be in Puerto Rico recording but if the other person was in Seattle the crime was committed in Seattle.
I have referred to the prosecutor on this specific statute more than once. It is a crime in my state. The internet is a terrible place to get legal advice (which no one should think I am offering as I am not offering legal advice).

I've tried a lot of apps... none work even reasonably well. Big $$$ to anyone that can show me an app that can record both sides of the conversation on the DC. Froyo preferred, but if it has to be GB, I'll still pony up cash.
Bottom line is that in some way, even if it requires speakerphone, I need both sides at an audible level. Show me an app that can do that on the DC and I'll show you the money.

It might be a good idea to shoot a PM or an email to the devs of MIUI (www.miui.us). When I was using MIUI on my Fascinate, it had a modified Dialer which had the option to record calls. I would love to see this feature as I have a few voicemails that I would enjoy keeping permanently.
...Also if anybody contacts them, I totally want their modified version of the File Manager. It automatically groups together similar file-types on an SD card, regardless of location. I think all of their modified apps require MIUI's framework though :-(

One person on the recording has to have knowledge that the conversation is being recorded. I researched this in VA for my own knowledge.
The laws are different in each state. Please refer to the following for your state laws:

I agree, it may well better belong in the Dev thread (thus why I posted it there) but here's fine too I guess.
I'm just really surprised that for as long as the Charge has been out that nobody has managed to get 2-way call recording working. I've tried a good number of apps and most just produce blank/silent results, or, that only the person speaking into the Charge can be heard, the other end is inaudible.
I'll pay a hundred bucks for someone to get it working on the Charge (working meaning both sides are clearly audible).
The probable reason why this is hasn't been developed is because it is illegal in many states. The person who develops such an app or kernel patches could face legal action against them if someone gets caught using this in a state where it is illegal.
If that were the case, many companies would be in danger of legal recourse, including the maker of Total Recall, www.killermobile.com.
This is simply not the case. Take for example the analogy of using a knife, gun, crossbow, or ballpoint pen to commit a crime such as murder. The makers of these objects are in no way liable for the action of the consumer.

That example is a bit of a stretch. What you're asking someone to develop is just outright illegal in many states if the person using the app/patch doesn't notify the other party prior to or at the beginning of the recording. Not to mention that most devs don't have end user license agreements to cover their asses. I'm NOT saying that the person who develops this for you will definitely, beyond the shadow of a doubt, receive legal repercussions. I'm saying that it's a possibility.

Let me tell you why your opinion is wrong.
Just because a product *can*be used for illegal purposes does not MEAN
that it is/will be. There are many examples of this FACT: namely: Alcohol consumption.
Obviously it isn't illegal to buy (at the age of 21)
It also isn't illegal to drink yourself into a coma, unless you
intend to operate a car.
The word that comes to mind is "responsibility."
So it's NOT up to the developer to hinder development because YOU feel
you need to act as a law enforcement officer (under the false pretense of illegalities you deem are of a higher and moral priority) when said developer
is within his/her legal RIGHT to create it.
If there is a market for a product it can and will be sold.
What the consumer does is NOT your business nor of your concern.

I like how you completely overlooked my second response. I was not trying to be a law enforcement officer, despite what you may think. I have not called the police, FBI, CIA, NSA, or even a mod to try to shut this thread down. I am not telling developers not to create what they want, I'm not even telling them not to create these particular patches.
I merely made a statement saying that they may receive legal repercussions. I wasn't even throwing my own morals into this discussion. Exactly where was I preaching that this was a moral issue and that it's wrong to attempt this?
Call Recording on Samsung
Is available for Android 2.2.1
Recording works automatically for regular use and speaker phone, but is not possible for cable-headset or bluetooth. The output is amr encoded (cell phone standard), there are computer applications able to play it back.
I have not heard of it working on anything later than Android 2.2.1 Froyo, but it might be out there?
Two-way call recording requires hardware support in the device. This is somewhat rare though the predecessor Galaxy S has it, so perhaps Droid Charge has it, too?
App stores are abundant with apps claiming two-way recording, but as far as I have experienced (20 or so apps), none actually do.
To get it working, it requires rooting the phone, flashing a rom and installing a few apks. Takes several hours and may in the end not succeed.
When I did this, I got to see the black screen of death many times (telling you to return the phone to Samsung) and sometimes thought it was all over, but Samsung Kies, sometimes adb, and lots of finger grease saved the day (night.)
Conclusion is, short of a devoted software engineer attacking a Droid Charge, the world won't get to know if it works on this device.
Hope that helps!
I have tried many apps, mods but have no luck so far. I am a businessman and i need to record all my conversations. I am currently running on rooted stock 2.3.6.

Federal law now makes it illegal to record both wireless and cell phone conversations outside of one party consent. You used to be able to go into places like Radio Shack and purchase scanners that would lock onto the frequencies needed to pick up wireless and cell phone conversations. These scanners are now illegal to sell or be in possession of. I find it rather hard to believe, and further, a little disconcerting that someone would utilize a personal or "business" mobile phone to conduct "business" and as such wishing to record all conversations with the guise of "business" being conducted. I for one, have NEVER received a call from another mobile phone by someone using it for business and wishing to record a conversation that I might have been involved in. Further, the Federal Communications Commission goes further into details on recording telephone conversations and states that the party recording must give verbal notification before the recording and that there must be a beep tone on the line to indicate that the line is being recorded.

You've never received a business call from another cell phone? Or you haven't been recorded while on one?
I have recorded calls before, especially when I get a call from someone who needs something fairly complex. Everyone always knows that things are being recorded, etc., I'm not trying to catch anyone out in something...but if I'm driving, and somebody needs to get something set up, I can start recording and discuss what arrangements that they need so that I can go over them when I get back to the office. This allows them to feel that progress is being made, and that I take them and their needs seriously, and thus prevents them from going somewhere else. This sort of thing is what I typically have/would make use of this feature for. I really don't see why everyone keeps getting bent out of shape about people wanting to record calls...recorded phone conversations are a fact of life in the business world in every industry that I've been a part of. Not everyone needs that functionality, but when they do, it can be a kind of important thing. Now I don't need this often, since I'm running a smaller operation now, but there have probably been 3-4 times since the beginning of May that it would have been nice to have. At least one of those times, it probably would have saved me a several thousand dollar piece of business...the guy needed to move forward, and I was driving on I-10 at the time.

Contrary to your unnecessarily snarky comment, I DO live in the real world, and deal with people each day get twisted about completely innocuous statements others make. All I was doing was speaking to the level of risk vs. reward with laws pertaining to this type of thing. I never implied that telephone call recording was "illegal", but that there are certain measures that have to be understood and executed for something like this to not violate any State or Federal laws. Just sayin', that was all.
No, to my knowledge I've never been involved in a conversation that was recorded from a mobile phone. Sure, there's loads of companies (AT&T inclusive to these that say 'this call may be recorded for quality control and/or training purposes'. That's fine and dandy; but I've not, as I stated, been recorded from a mobile phone in the name of "business". Again, just sayin'...
If there are "hundreds of apps" in the market for this, surely there's one that would suffice for your needs. (?)
Nonetheless, I don't know of any roms for the A2 that have a call recoding feature built in, nor do I know of any developers (not trying to speak for any of them, just based on what I've seen) that seem to concerned on doing so in their roms. Sorry not to have been of any help, and I apologize if you were miffed by my comments, but that's on you not me. I've other things to worry about when I'm awake...

Apps for recording won't work in our phone, and Motorolas are notorious for locking that functionality, I've learned.
One of cogeary's international ROMs has recording, but not DTMF tones in-call, which is a necessity for me instead if nice-to-have.
Workaround: Google Voice has a call record feature that broadcasts a message and tone that complies with Federal law. Make/receive calls through that number, and you should be able to record. I haven't tested this any time lately...just remembered it, as a matter of fact.

Hi!
I have a one little question, is there someone who record calls in own HTC One S? If yes, can you please write what you use and what his ROM and radio? Thanks a lot!
And sorry for my not good English.
Call recording is illegal in some countries/regions and is generally considered unethical elsewhere in the thinking world (at best). Stock ROMs from any manufacturer (and CyanogenMod ROMs) never have this facility for that reason as they would be open to legal action or ethical suits.
So if anyone DOES reply with info, they may be rather less well thought of... there is generally a sinister reason for wanting this feature.
Yes, I know that in some countries this is illegal setting, but if you tell participant the call is being recorded, its no problem.
I used call recording on my previous phone, so I ask for the opportunity to HTC One S, thanks.
I used call recording on my Sensation (now, my wife's) before.
I think call recording is really useful. I tend to forgot details of a conversation with customers and call recording is really a god send.
I think the best way to enable call recording is thru the kernel, like Sensation. But not sure how the kernel Devs feel about that.
You can download 'Sanity' from Google Play as well

Ethical suits? Perfectly good reasons exists like recording telemarketers, conducting interviews over the phone etc. Didnt know that it was actually illegal anywhere, in most countries one or both parties must be aware of it though. Yeah its strange that one is enough but I guess in those cases its a law to prevent wiretapping.
news!?

Does anyone know of an app that can record video and upload it to a cloud/server at the same time? That way, if you use said app to record a police officer breaking the law, and then they take and smash your phone, it would be too late for them, because the recording (minus whatever few-second buffer the app had) would already be uploaded and online?

In fact, I make it a point of mine to thank people for their time, for even bothering to read my post and give an answer, even if the answer is not helpful to me in anyway, for every positive suggestion anyone tries to make, provided they are not hostile.
edit: oh, I see, you mean I've never pressed the thank "button". Well then, I guess that means I'm an ungrateful, selfish bastard, doesn't it?
I'm not sure how an auto-uploading application itself would be illegal. But if what you meant to say was that it might be illegal to video record people, I'm not sure about the law in the USA, but I'll tell you what it is here in Canada:
- You can record anything, and anyone, without anyone's permission, as long as its in a public place, excluding public pools, gyms, schools and daycares. The general rule of thumb is that you can record anything that is outside or on the street.
- Your right to video record in a private establishment/business is at the discretion of the business owner/management.
- You can record the police, as long as you are not getting in their way while you do it
- You CAN record someone, in public, without informing them of the fact, but...
- You cannot distribute or publish videos of people without their prior written consent, or without obscuring their face and making it impossible to identify the person
Thanks for your time, for reading my post, and for replying!

Nice to know that Canada has such liberal laws. I still can't get my head round why you would be expecting to require such an app unless you are planning to bait somebody?
Regardless, the data that would be consumed by such an app would be massive even if there was one available. Your best bet might be to look at one of those child-monitor type of apps which can run on a remote computer and use your phones camera to record from, but yet again without a wireless connection the date usage will be horrendous.

Right, I've never clicked the 'thank' button. I make it a point to actually type out a thankyou message; it feels much more human and personal than simply clicking a button to raise a numerical counter. I wasn't aware it was such an important button, do people get prizes for having the most # of thanks or something?

Actually, we have much more conservative laws in Canada when it comes to the police. We have no miranda rights. We have no "fruit from a poisoned tree" laws. Any evidence obtained with illegal means is admissable in court unless successfully challenged in a separate trial that the citizen themselves must initiate and pay for. We have a right to a lawyer, but that right doesn't mean anything, because if a person's accessibility to a lawyer was obstructed, there is no effect on the case or court proceedings whatsoever. And as far as I know, even in the USA, there are only a select few states that do not allow filming police, and then most of those say that you can film the police provided you do not record audio as well.
I'm honestly not planning on baiting any police. But I've been intentionally rammed and nearly run over while I was on a bicycle, by a cop car, because I couldn't get my headphones out fast enough to hear what they were saying. I've had a cop threaten to shoot my dog, because it was barking too much, even though it was on a leash and restrained. My female friends have, on more than one occasion, been stopped by police for petty things (jaywalking, public drunkenness, etc), and then told that they'll drop the charges if they "thank" the officer... These types of things need to be recorded for there to be any accountability.

Yeah, I'm aware that even a few minutes of video can rack up several hundred mB of data. But with a well sized data plan, and turning the video resolution down as low as it can go, the data wouldn't be too massive, and besides, even if I have to pay an extra $20 to upload it, I don't plan on doing it every day, it would be worth the cost for the few occasions where it would be needed. Thanks for the suggestion about the baby-monitor app, I'll look into that.

Actually, the 'Thanks' meter does two things;-
1) It shows other members how useful to the XDA society someone is - which can also be helpful if you are working out whether to trust the advice they have given you
2) It stops threads being filled up with "Thanks", "Cheers dude", "Great work" etc posts which just waste space and bump threads for no good reason, also making it take longer to actually search for meaningful information.

Three examples in there;-
1) The dog one - yes, you might well have been able to get your phone out in time to record, but I suspect the cop might well have changed his tone if you tried that. If a cop tried that with my dog I'd probably have ripped his head off for it though.
2) You friends jaywalking and drunk in public - the cop was out of order with those comments, but I doubt your friends would have been in any fit state to try and get a phone out, run an app etc, and the cop would probably not have been stupid enough to repeat the comment on film
3) If you were riding with your headphones on then firstly you wouldn't have been able to get your phone out, and secondly you should have been arrested and had your bike and whatever you were listening to music on taken away from you. Idiots who ride bikes while listening to music cannot hear what is going on around them and frequently cause accidents as a direct result of not being aware of their surroundings. I have no sympathy with this one at all - you would, to my mind, have deserved everything you got for being so damn stupid and inconsiderate of other people

The baby-monitor app is going to be no good for you as it would need to be permanently connected. Much better to just get one of those mini 'spy' cameras with an SD-card and rolling record facility and make sure it isn't clearly visible.
Hello, after upgrading my phone to Android Pie I cannot record calls, I've been using ACR recorded. After the update, I've tried a few more recorders - Call Recorder - SKVALEX and Call Recorded by Boldbeast. Is there any way how to enable call recording without Root? I would be willing to use ADB.
Thank you in advance
Second this!
Second that
This is what i heard...
We would like to inform our users that there will be no call recording workaround on Android 9 and above. No 3rd party call recording app will be able to do so.
A quick history
Official call recording API was discontinued on Android 6 by Google on the grounds of user privacy. *(Google encourages users to lower their security by getting root access which they need to unlock this feature. Rooting also voids device warranty.)* Luckily, few developers found a workaround and it worked up until Android 8.1. Sadly, we have learnt that Google has closed that workaround on Android 9.
Future
There will be no call recording possibility on any Android 9 phone. No app will be able to record calls properly.

It is NOT Google's job to police the world. Where I live, it is legal to record your phone calls. I do this to protect myself just as I have a dash cam for the same reason. When the government introduced "privacy laws", I knew they were put in place, not to protect "my" privacy, but to protect the politician from having to answer to us, the voter's. Now when asked a question, they can say that they can't answer due to the privacy laws. Damn politicians. Damn corporations. Damn Google, Apple, Facebook. DAMN!

According to someones, Google removed the call recording function out of Android Pie, but Samsung re-added it in the One UI.
There should be a "Call recording" option in the parameters of the dialling function.
However, after the update of my S8+, I didn't find it.
My version is G955FXXU4DSBA
My version of One UI is 1.0 (some users report 1.1).
Should I hope an update to One UI 1.1 for obtaining the Call Recording ?
Regards.
Where there is a will, there is a way.

Flash Samsung original Firmware that supports call recording.
Any news with galaxy note 8 and skvalex's call recorder?
I won't Update to Android P without ability to call record and I do not wish to root

Same situation as me. I'm currently studying how to do this...

Losing the record call is a definite no for some.
As of now, some S8+ have yet to receive the firmware update to Android 9.0. Follow these steps to stop the update to Android 9.0 Pie :
under Settings >>> Developer Options >>> Auto Update System has been disabled.
under Settings >>> Software Update >>> Download Updates Automatically has been disabled.
As far as I'm aware, this is the best option to prevent over night mandatory firmware updates that were common in the past.

Call recording in S8 with Pie
I have downgraded my s8 from Pie to Andoid 8 official. Now call recording app ACR by nll works fine as before. I need Call recording very much so I downgraded my s8. Only problem is that Pie upgradatiion pop up appears now and then. I push later since I can't stop the notification permanently.

Well I hate to say this but what is good in your country doesn't mean a lot when you are using something from another country. In the US the laws change almost by the mile. Where one brother lives call recording is allowed if only one person knows its being recorded, my other brother lives in a place where both people have to know and I live in a place where it is not allowed at all.
Now you are more then welcome to try and remember the laws for everywhere you call. But as Google is a US company it has to do its best to follow us laws. Also less and less courts are allowing phone records as proof of anything as they can easily be faked.

Google is an international company that has to abide by the laws of each country that it wants to do business in. Those countries do NOT have to abide by the laws of the U.S. Don't think so? Look at how China forces Google to modify it's search engine. The USA is NOT the world's police force and we don't want it to be. I will not abide by US laws unless I am visiting there.

China doesnt as google is banned in China or did you miss that.
You are right the countries dont. So as soon as your country ads call recording the the OS that it makes......oh wait thats right.
Google has to follow the rules in the country it is made. Not to mention if you use that on someone in the states like I mentioned they can and have been known to sue across country lines and win. So that is up to you.

Which State? Only 11 States require 2 party consent. And I would guess (actually I'm not guessing) that 100% of my calls are not only, only in my country, but also in my one consent province. Now PROVE (i.e. show actual cases of someone successfully being sued across country lines) your last statement. Otherwise you're just spewing garbage.
Again, I don't need Google, the USA or YOU policing me. I've checked the local laws with a local lawyer and you are right on one item (kind of but not 100%). Your call recording "may not" be allowed on court, but it CAN be used against a witness if they perjured thenselves. If they lie in court (talking Ontario Canada only here), a NEW case can be opened against the witness, charging them with perjury. Your lawyer would probably take the defendant's lawyer aside and inform him/her that, if the witness perjures themself, he has evidence and will have them charged. Pretty strong deterrent having the recording, even if you can't use it directly.

Wow you just dont get it do you. Your laws dont matter. They mean nothing. If you want proof go get it yourself. I am not your mother and we dont spoon feed here. Might take some time. It has been awhile since I cared about it to be honest. I use a voice scrambler on all my calls for fun. So recording the call became useless.
If you dont think you are held to our laws by using a US based OS just ask China.

Now if you dont like it then by all means code and OS yourself that will follow your laws.
