Internal Storage - HTC ChaCha

I've had one of these for about three weeks now but already I'm getting messages telling me the internal storage is getting full. I haven't installed any new apps but it's telling me there is only around 65MB free. Surely this can't be right?

The phone has about 150 total internal storage.
Sent from my HTC ChaCha A810e using Tapatalk

Internal storage on the Cha Cha is really small, everytime I power on the device the free up memory wizard runs. I've put a 16 GB card in mine to try and help offload some apps since the included 2 GB card also filled up fast. Not impressed with the memory situation at all!

Is there a way to remove system apps? This out of memory is too annoying

There is.
Once you are rooted, titanium backup will do it.
Be careful what you remove but it will do it.
I have removed Facebook, stocks and several others I can't remember!
Sent from my HTC ChaCha A810e using Tapatalk

LOL you removed facebook?
Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of this phone?
Were you able to use the facebook button for something else?

I don't use Facebook. Apparently this phone has a qwerty keyboard as well as one button for a specific app.
I got it for the keyboard!
And I bet I'm not the only one who will remove it and or re assign that button once we know how!
Sent from my HTC ChaCha A810e using Tapatalk

Agree, I got the phone for the keyboard primarily - the facebook integration isn't the best tbh.
re internal storage, I am really struggling with this. To the point accounts have stopped syncing without my knowing, and a couple of fairly urgent emails have not been read as a consequence.
We need to get the S-ONs rooted soon or I will have to look elsewhere, which is a real shame as writing messages on this thing is pretty damn good...

Today I have tried another thing (trying to fix the dialer problem); I have reset the phone to factory status. Internal memory jumped to about 115 MB (I have no idea how and why) after the reset. Now I have reinstalled all my apps and updates and the memory is at 105 MB. Before the reset I had about 54 MB's free left. It seems that each time you install and then uninstall an application, some files still remain on the phone.

I had to install biggest apps first to move to sd, but noticed internal memory not released.
Its sad that such a nice phone has such limited nenory. I'm loving the keyboard a lot

I also saw this effect when I did the reset.

*crosses fingers* and resets.
You guys better not be trolling.. I also got the phone with 54MB free. Now see if resets turns up more..

Edit: Cool, I did get 118MB.. worth the reset! Thanks for the tip!

Pls delete posted on the wrong thread.
Thanks

This is very bad, and the reinstall pain (post-factory refresh) is exacerbated because the Market doesn't auto-reinstall your apps!

Go to Settings -> Privacy -> Activate Back up my settings and Automatic restore.
After the factory reset, all my market apps were reinstalled automatically after I synchronized my Gmail account.

Yeah, they were on - nada

Weird, it should've worked. Is the same Gmail account used for market and the device? (I presume that it is but I cannot see any other differences).

Thanks for the tip i had 23mb free this morning. Did a factory reset and re installed all the apps exactly as before and now i have 75mb free! How odd. Shame the phone cant regain that space automatically.
Sent from my HTC ChaCha A810e using XDA App

From what I saw the phone restores memory after the factory reset. What I've done is this:
- at 105 MB free I have downloaded and installed an application from Market
- space dropped to about 97 MB; moved the app to sd card
- space jumped to 103 MB
- removed the application (uninstalled), checked internal memory: 103 MB. After about 3 minutes, the memory was cleared automatically and it was back to 105 MB.
My fear now is that there is a glitch somewhere in the software (maybe between app2sd and the htc sense?!) and sometimes the downloaded data does not delete whatsoever. Basically I presume that factory reset is required once the memory reaches ~20 MB.
I have noticed that there is an issue with space removal if you download apps from HTC Likes and HTC Hub.
Other issue I have seen and corrected:
1. As I bought the phone for the keyboard awesomeness that it holds, I am using it for emails (mostly), Gmail and work. The work email has a lot of huge attachments.
2. Initially I have set to retrieve all emails with all attachments automatically therefore internal memory dropped from 105 MB to 15 MB. Apparently email attachments are stored in the internal memory, even if I have set it to sdcard (this problem was seen before the factory reset; fixed with the reset).
3. Changed mail settings to retrieve text only, emails newer than 14 days.
4. Thinking of clearing the maps data and get a different gps navigation software that has maps included (igo, sygic) which can be placed on the sd card. Currently my maps takes about 5 MB of internal data.
I hope this is helpful.

Help Resyncing everything / Reset?

So I have this problem with storagespace and reserved space.
2,5gb Music
175mb videos,
25mb pictures
3,5GB!!! Reserved space from other computers Even though I have set Reserved settings to 0%.
There is probably something wrong here so I need to resync everything.
So the question is, how do I do that without loosing my apps?
Is a hardreset the only way?
If so, will I get back the non free apps?
Is there a smarter way than hard reseting?
Experiences I made concerning this is that most often a simple soft reset (just shut down and restart the device) frees some space. If that doesn't help, you can delete all your synched data and resynch it again. This way you won't lose your apps. Deleting your data is quite simple. Launch Zune and go to settings. On the top of the list it says "synchronisation settings" or something similar. Choose that and scroll down in the right part of the window. On the very bottom there are two options to choose from. The left one should say "delete my data" or so (I have the German version, so I don't exactly know what it is called in the English version).
Thanx! I will try that!
But I think there is some app-installation etc that has screwed upp the memory on the phone. And to get rid of that I guess a hard-reset is the only way?
Possibly. But most storage related issue I came across so far where always caused by an aborted or a somehow erroneous synchronisation.

I think if you sync on more than one pc it duplicates the storage.
Or... That space is where your apps are stored.

[Q] storage problem/free space -- what is taking up so much??

So starting off with this phone I know it doesn't have the best internal storage. When apps are moved to the SD some of the app stays behind on the internal storage, I know that. I have had 2 shifts. My first one i dropped, cracked the screen, and the insurance gave me a new one. On my first shift at the time I had about 70mb of free space left when I sent it in. Before sending it I made a titanium backup and restored that on my shift I have today. When I restored it I had about 120mb of free space. (NOT THE PROBLEM READ ON)
So the point is something in the system is causing massive storage to fill up over time, and its not apps. I have force moved apps and that only helps a little. Is it a certin cache that I can clear? please help!
At the moment I have 60mb of free storage, that is with the app cache cleared through App2SD
Right I have the following : System ROM 219MB , Internal 222MB , SD Card 8.32 GB . When you long press on an app in TB it should give you the option to move to SD card. You shouldn't have to force move an app. When you restored all your apps did you restore apps and data? Or just the app? Also after restoring with TB you need to make sure the app was restored to the correct place. There's an option I usually check in the preferances before I restore all my apps. It restores to the previous location you had the app. Hope that helps.
I restored the apps and data... This isn't a problem with tb, its a problem with some storage/cache something building up in the system
No I'm not using Tapatalk... I'm using the XDA Premium app, cause I got balls.
My email took up a lot of storage on my old hero because everytime I deleted something it still stayed on a new folder called imap/trash... it was taking up about 50mb so you might want to look into that

Don't know if your restoring SMS with something. But if your are sometimes that takes up hella space. Did a phone that had over 25MB of SMS messages restore back onto it on internal mem.
i will see, i also use a tool called disk usage. you have probubly heard of it but it maps out everything and the amount of space it takes up. you can narrow the results to a certin cache or whatever. ive seen that apps like pandora are taking up space in the dalvik cache. Its only like a mb or 2 but still. do you know anything about apps storing things in the dalvik?
what is the dalvik even for anyway?
I've been trying to go back to stock today, so I've wiped a few times, but I've got 430MB total space internal, with 366MB free
and.....
i dont understand what this has to do with this thread

I beleive dalvik cache gets recreated everytime you reboot. But, about Pandora is it on the SD Card? Or internal mem? I listen to a TON of music. When I had Pandora on internal it was up to 12MB .So I moved it to the SD card, only 536KB on internal now.
My app is on the SD but it is storing over 1mb on internal
If you have DiskUsage go to the [root required] section and press 'App Storage'
if you can find pandora you will see that most of it is stored in the dalvik cache
Sorry I don't use DiskUsage app. Your right about how much is on internal. Mine reads 1.28MB.
any idea what it is storing there?
Drawing a blank on this, I'll keep looking. See if I can come up with something. But I'd probably head on over to theMikMik and see if somebody there can help.
My biggest space hog when I had problems was email... Try clearing data for email or gmail to see what happens (maybe back up first)

i cleared my cache partition, not sure what was stored there but it doesnt matter cleared up 20mb... is there any other ways i can get more space??? why are apps storing data in the dalvik??
Any other suggestions here? My wife's Shift is having this problem. Constant notification about low storage space. Can't even download any new apps. I have not rooted her phone yet, and not sure if I will; I don't want to have her have to go without for any length of time, and I don't think she wants things changed around so much as she just wants the thing to work, not to have to tinker or troubleshoot.

Did you download a lot of apps? Try moving the apps to the SD Card. The path is Menu-Settings-Applications-Manage applications-Downloaded. Then just click on the applications one at a time. If the button says Move to SD card, and isn't greyed out press it. That should free up some space. If that doesn't work since your not rooted, I would just try a factory reset.
clear the folder /data/tombstones. App crashes and such create rather large files that can eat up quite a bit of space. Also check the cache folder at the root, failed market installs will have file fragments in there as well.

Market issue - cannot update or download apps, download icon appears briefly

I have seen references to a similar problem, but no resolution that has worked for me (or many others)... just a lot of dead end discussions.
My rig:
HTC Desire
LeeDroid 3.07
A2SD+
I had moved a few apps to SD just as an experiment to see how it affected my internal storage space. After doing that I am unable to update any apps, or install new ones. Some apps are no longer recognised by the Market as being installed even though they're in my app drawer and I can use them.
When I try to update or install an app, after accepting permission I see the download icon appear briefly (1-2 seconds) in the notification bar and then it disappears...
Things I've tried:
Clearing Market cache and data
Deleting files from .android_secure (this broke a lot of apps)
rebooting countless times
trying over and over again to install and/or update
My next step is to just wipe and start again, but I'm loath to do this unless I absolutely have to and would prefer to find a solution...
Any help is appreciated!
make sure your time and date is correct
I've had the same problem on my Desire. What I had to do to fix it was to reformat my SD card (specifically the ext partition).
Make sure you back up all your SD card data before doing this. I hope it helps.

I am having this problem right now.. weird..
tried via wifi and 3g.. cant download anything. I have more than 750 MB of space free
I'm also having this problem. If anybody could help it would make my day I updated to the newest market, wiped all the caches (dalvik, market, etc). I don't know what else I can do. I have 751 megabytes free for apps.

G2X Storage Issue

So, I just got my new G2X yesterday and loaded all the apps that I had on my MyTouch 4g before. Today I tried to download a 25MB app and my phone is already saying that there isn't enough storage space. When I check under storage it shows that I have 1.2 GB left on my internal storage. So if I have over a gig left why can't I download a 25MB app?
OK, so, come to find out that the Amazon market was able to DL apps perfectly fine so I uninstalled the Android Market updates and then it started working again. So, for what it's worth.

What would have been helpful was a better description of what you were doing, the full message you received.
The market downloads apps to a temporary cache before installing them. If you try to download many apps at the same time sometimes you will get the out of memory error. I got it on my Nexus One often. It has nothing to do with how much usable memory you actually have left. If you are downloading a large app download it alone and don't download any other apps at the same time.
Good advice. That's happened to me before.

Good call. I'll be sure to keep that in mind in the future. thanks.
Not to thread jack. where I'm having storage issues is the way it seems my SD card is being handled. For whatever reason my phone shows as having 3 storage locations SD card, Phone memory and Internal phone storage. The issue is that when using music players when picking a source it only lets me choose from either internal storage or external storage but the internal storage is the Internal phone storage and the external storage is the Phone memory. Leaving me without an option to choose the SD card. What's even more strange is that it does pull music from the SD card but now alot of the tags are messed up. All the tags are correct. I've doubled and tripled checked that. Leaves me scratching my head as to what is going on.

Any idea how many apps is too many? I've had at least 15 or 16 apps downloading/updating at once on this phone and I never got an error.
On WI-FI I downloaded 10 at a time no problem. On phones data 5 no problems.

[Q] Default intall location as internal memory

I am on Zeus ROM (actually, I don't think what ROM I am on matters here). After installing a few apps, I noticed that some apps go into internal memory, and some to external. I can't seem to get the logic of how it is decided where to direct which app. I never cared for install location, that is, until this morning.
I rebooted my phone in a routine once-a-week-reboot. When it booted up, it gave me a message that external sd got corrupt and needs to be reformatted. I overlooked it for the time being. Then when I reached work, I noticed about half my apps missing. Then it flashed to me that I noticed some apps in internal and some in external memory in TiBu.
I had to download TiBu too from market since it was missing, and then restored my apps. Now all are in internal memory since external card is corrupted.
Now, after all this history, my question would be to know if there is a way to force the default location of apps to internal memory. Infuse has loads of internal memory, and I see no harm in filling it up (well, that is, if I can really install that many apps).

Could be a trick..maybe not as easy as it looks.
There is a setting in manage applications that allows you to Move the app from sd to phone. Is this what you mean?
Settings.manage application. Click on app. Move to phone?
There are some market app s that will let you choose where to install an app as well....folio? Something..
I routinely do this for app i deem important...ie not games etc..

Not moving from phone to SD manually; I have to do this routinely on my touch pad cos of its low internal memory.
I was looking for a means of forcing an app to install to internal memory as a default. Even as we speak, with about 62 apps installed, I still have about 1.4 GB internal memory free (as per TiBu). I would prefer an app to go there, than to external SD.
By the way, it helps to have TiBu auto backup apps every day. I have two set up, one for newly installed apps, and one for all modified data everyday around 3 am. That saved my life with all apps with up to date data when I restored them.

My interesting observation over the last few days:
Since moving all my apps to internal memory, for some reason, even with a lot of apps in memory, I still have about 150 MB free 90% of the time.
Earlier it used to fall to 80 too.
Phone is snappy, so not sure how this is happening. And since Infuse has loads of internal memory (mine has atleast 1.3 GB free), I think it might be better off moving apps to internal memory.
