[Q] Stop Altered Beast update notifications - Verizon Droid Charge

I recently installed the Altered Beast ROM and the system update notification recurs ad nauseum. I know not to install the update, but I'm wondering if there is a way to turn off the notification so I don't have to deal with it constantly.

It sounds like you never did the OTA to EE4 or never flashed the EE4 factory ODIN to update your baseband.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172182
You shouldn't be getting any update notifications after your baseband is
i510.06 V.EE4
SCH-I510.EE1
Check under about phone in the settings menu.

No, I think you flashed EE4 altered beast without updating your baseband(modem) the network sees your baseband isn't up to date and is trying to update.
You need to flash the ODIN I linked to update your baseband. Then if you want Altered Beast flash that. It doesn't include the EE4 modem.
Acctually you could just flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181827 to update the radio and you should be good to go.

How I Got To a Rooted EE4

This stuff is not for the faint of heart !! Bricking a $300.00 phone is stressfull !!
Okay ... after much trial and error, this is what I did and I have what looks to me to be a stock rooted EE4. I am sure it is not stock as I used imnuts' debloated tar but that's fine, it is working and not trying to send me an update.
Okay, regardless of what I went thru to get to this point, these are the steps I took to have the phone updated to EE4 and rooted.
via Odin 3 I rolled the phone back to ED1 using the [ODIN] Stock Rooted ED1 (downgrade from ED2) [2011.05.18] file found in the Dev forum.
The phone re-booted and was again a stock rooted ED1 and it was trying to push me the EE4 update. I DID NOT update the phone OTA.
I immediately took the battery back out and went back into Odin and flashed imnuts' debloated ee4 file found at [ROM][06-10-2011] EE4 Debloated V4.2.1 in the dev forum.
When re-booting after this flash, the Samsung logo stayed on the screen for what must have been a good 8+ minutes. There was a sexy female voice that would occasionally talk to me and soothe my nerves during this process. The phone rebooted !!
After flashing I rebooted and the phone was trying to push the ee4 update to me. I went into 'about phone' and checked and what it showed was
Baseband Version
i510.06.V.EE4
SCH-I510.EE1
Build number
SCH-I510.ED1
I then went into the build.prop editor using SGS Tools and changed all instances of ED1 to EE4. I believe there are 5 of them to change.
After saving the changes I rebooted the phone. Upon re-start, I went back in and checked the build number and it is
SCH-I510.EE4
The phone is not attempting to send any system updates and it IS rooted.
I then went into it with Titanium and deleted a lot of the useless pre-installed apps.
So far so good. It looks to me like it's where I wanted it.
Dude, that's complicated. But if it works, then it works. Cant complain against that, huh?
Here is what I did.
Flash back to stock ED1 rooted. Take the OTA update, flash droidxcon's ee4 package 3, flash kejar's sdcard fix, flash imnuts debloated v4.2.1, and boom. You're rooted EE4 with EE4 basebands.
After that, I flashed Gummy.
LOL... I think it's actually less complicated than I am wordy !!!
Rollback to ED1
Flash imnuts debloated EE4
Edit build.prop
That's all there really was to it.
That gives EE4 Basebands and EE4 Build
The rest of the book was just me explaining the process I took in checking everything.
But like ya said, it's the end result that matters !!

[Q] Charge is only showing up as CD Drive

I have root access and have CWM, am using stock ROM. My phone does not show up as a USB device after downloading drivers multiple times as I have found in the threads on here as well as AndroidCentral, I could use help as I cannot alter the location of files and such on phone via PC having to move each individual file via "my files" will take forever. So how do I make computer read the phone as a USB device instead of CD Drive so it won't be read only.
Use Peanut Butter Jelly time Kernel with OTB, it solved my issue.
can that be flashed with ODIN as I have no way to access my SD Card as of now?
No it cant, just download it from your phone browser and boot into recovery. Flash, win.
I put SD card in my Fascinate and am transferring files with my fascinate, if i use Altered beast should i put PBJ on first? PBJ is just a kernel correct?
Yeah its just a kernel, flash the rom first then the kernel. Its voodoo with overclock, let me know how it works out. Hope I helped.
any idea after getting Altered Beast and the PBJ kernel it tells me phone is due for upgrade, what happens if i do the upgrade?

I have no idea why it would ask you for an update, are you on EE4 already?

I have no idea why it would ask you for an update, are you on EE4 already? Maybe its because your using an alpha rom? Im using Gummy Charged, I have no issues and the update isnt popping up. I WOULDNT DO THE UPDATE, watch out. Did your USB mount now?
I was EE4 to begin with fresh opening the phone, it said there was an update so I went ahead and did it. Before I ever did any playing with the phone, when I began rooting I had EE4. it now says:
Baseband v.: i510.06 V.EE4 SCH-I510.EE1
Kernel v.:2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number: SCH-I510.ED2
But it is finding phone as a removable disk now!

Oh, thats why. The rom you are using is ED2, which downgraded you from your EE4. I would wipe your data and cache, flash Gummy Charged EE4, then flash the imnuts kernel AFTER that. You wont have an issue and youll have the newest Froyo update.
Is there a way to change the notification bar with Gummy? I hate the stock version! LOL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116086 Here is the rom. First, make sure Voodoo is off. Download Voodoo toggle from the market and turn your voodoo off. Clear cache/data and flash the rom, after that flash the kernel. Then let your phone boot up, mount it to USB and delete the folder called "voodoo." Boot back into recovery, go to voodoo and enable it. Itll start the conversion.
And yeah you can do that... Im not to sure how good you are with ADB put I pulled my whole framework-res.apk and ported a theme from another rom.
don't know much about adb at all
Well it takes time... But anyways, to the main point. Did you get it working?
Btw, here is the theme I ported. Let me know if you like it, maybe I can do your notification drop down. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15471987#post15471987 (Very last post.)
do i have to do wipe data/factory reset? or just wipe cache?
Factory reset to be safe.
Future reference, if all fails. Go to settings>Usb Settings>Ask on Connection.

[Q] Droid Charge Baseband-Help

Ok..I always try to figure it out by searching the forums...could not get there this time. I had Humbles rom on the phone...then I realized I should update my Baseband...so the mission starts.. I started on Basband ep3 on both the first and second lines..after reading it sounded like I needed to flash back to stock to get the update to ee4....I first deactivated voodo by adding the file directly ...reset phone then waited while the sexy voice said it was deactivated... then I flashed the stock rom...when I powered up the the phone on stock ...it did download the update...while installing the update it crashes and does not install correctly...so after messing around I re-flashed the stock rom and then downloaded the update again.....same thing happened.....then after reading some more I thought maybe my partitions where jacked so I flashed charge.pit ...now my phone wouldn't even show signs of life...stressing a bit ....I was able to flash Hummble 4.0 which brought my phone back to life...happy that it is working I'm now back where I originally started but now I'm on Ep1...even worse than before I started..lol
Does anyone have any ideas why it would not update? any help would be great!
Ep3 is the newest radio version. Ep1 is the second newest. And ee4 is the oldest. So you were really trying to unupdate. You are fine with the ep1 modems. But if you want to upgrade flash the ep3h radios through Odin.
Sent from my Gummy Charged GBE 2.1 using XDA App
Yep
I'm confused....thanks for the clarification.... I thought I had to go to stock to get any updates...whats with all the posts talking about that?
any quick link to where I could download the ep3 for odin? much appreciated

Here ya go - EP3 Modem
The only reason you ever need to go back to stock is if you want to "unroot" your phone or to fix soft bricks. The baseband version corrosponds to the type of radios your phone is running (how you get your signal). And the radios are always independent of your ROM. Here's a short overview of the different radios from beginning to present.
ED1: Original charge modem. (sucked).
ED2: still sucks.
EE4: Latest official update for the droid charge. This is the radio that most Froyo Roms are based off of.
<I'm going to skip over a few because they are kind of non-existant now>
EP1Q: A leaked Gingerbread Radio. Significant improvements in signal strength.
EP1W: Improves upon EP1Q radio by handling data switching better. (A lot of Gingerbread ROMS are based off of this radio).
EP3H: The newest radio and probably the best. Some small improvements in data switching and got rid of occasional "popping" sounds from EP1W radio. Most of the newest ROMS use this radio as a base (Meaning they are optimized to use this radio).
Long story short, use the latest Radios. They always bring improvements. =)

[Q] No Signal please help

After having a number of FC and random issues with my phone I decided to return it to factory state, I flash the stock image from the Clockwork app and ever since I have no service. I let the phone go through the update from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 via wifi and had the same issue. I tried to manually flash the latest AT&T radio with no luck. My phone is now flashed the stock GRj22 Rom and baseband KD1 and I still show no signal please help!

VZ wants to update my phone, yey or neigh?

Folks, I keep getting annoying message on my Samsung Droid Charge, telling me to upgrade my system.
I have it rooted with Gummy and it runs very well for what I use it for.
my f/w version is 2.2.1
baseband version is i510.06 v.ee4
kernel is 2.6.32.9
Do I really need to update? also, is there any way to turn that forced VZ update to off?
if I have no choice and must update, I do need to revert to stock f/w, right? then re-install Gummy back. So what's the point in updating?
why not update to a better version ? I would backup my current rom and test the update

With some OTA updates it is possible to lose root. It happened to alot of people with updated from froyo to gingerbread, and at the time there was no root for gingerbread...so they were stuck.
Also, any update is just going to be to the stock rom. If you are rooted and using custom roms, and OTA is pointless.
