[Q] Droid Charge Baseband-Help - Verizon Droid Charge

Ok..I always try to figure it out by searching the forums...could not get there this time. I had Humbles rom on the phone...then I realized I should update my Baseband...so the mission starts.. I started on Basband ep3 on both the first and second lines..after reading it sounded like I needed to flash back to stock to get the update to ee4....I first deactivated voodo by adding the file directly ...reset phone then waited while the sexy voice said it was deactivated... then I flashed the stock rom...when I powered up the the phone on stock ...it did download the update...while installing the update it crashes and does not install correctly...so after messing around I re-flashed the stock rom and then downloaded the update again.....same thing happened.....then after reading some more I thought maybe my partitions where jacked so I flashed charge.pit ...now my phone wouldn't even show signs of life...stressing a bit ....I was able to flash Hummble 4.0 which brought my phone back to life...happy that it is working I'm now back where I originally started but now I'm on Ep1...even worse than before I started..lol
Does anyone have any ideas why it would not update? any help would be great!

Ep3 is the newest radio version. Ep1 is the second newest. And ee4 is the oldest. So you were really trying to unupdate. You are fine with the ep1 modems. But if you want to upgrade flash the ep3h radios through Odin.

Yep
I'm confused....thanks for the clarification.... I thought I had to go to stock to get any updates...whats with all the posts talking about that?

any quick link to where I could download the ep3 for odin? much appreciated

Here ya go - EP3 Modem

The only reason you ever need to go back to stock is if you want to "unroot" your phone or to fix soft bricks. The baseband version corrosponds to the type of radios your phone is running (how you get your signal). And the radios are always independent of your ROM. Here's a short overview of the different radios from beginning to present.
ED1: Original charge modem. (sucked).
ED2: still sucks.
EE4: Latest official update for the droid charge. This is the radio that most Froyo Roms are based off of.
<I'm going to skip over a few because they are kind of non-existant now>
EP1Q: A leaked Gingerbread Radio. Significant improvements in signal strength.
EP1W: Improves upon EP1Q radio by handling data switching better. (A lot of Gingerbread ROMS are based off of this radio).
EP3H: The newest radio and probably the best. Some small improvements in data switching and got rid of occasional "popping" sounds from EP1W radio. Most of the newest ROMS use this radio as a base (Meaning they are optimized to use this radio).
Long story short, use the latest Radios. They always bring improvements. =)

please help phone random restart

ok so a while ago i decided to try gb and found it was worse than froyo so i reverted back to froyo. but when i was in gb i had so many problems like radio disconnect and random restarts. now both were installed useing cwm so im wondering could my phone still have the bad ep1w radio and be running froyo? or is that not possible?

no if you used Odin to flash back to EE4 then you have the EE4 radios, if you flashed stock froyo/custom froyo in CWM then most likely you still have the GB modems which you can check by seeing what it says under baseband in about phone settings... if it is still GB radios no problem just Odin the EE4 ones, however in my personal experience those were horrible radios and my phone works best with the GB ones
hmm ok well i tryed the gummy gbe 2.0 and thats when i started getting reboot problems and radio cut outs. so i reflashed ee4. ill try a odin flash instead of a cwm flash.

[Q] Help trying to get friends Rogers Nexus S back to stock(ish)

So my friend has a Nexus S that he bought from Rogers, using on Rogers etc. He put CM7 on it a while ago, didn't really like it so he tried to go back to stock as much as possible but is having some issues. I tried to help last night, but holy smokes there are alot of different radios and versions out there. It was so much easier when I had my nexus one compared to this (or so it seems to me). Anyways, for a Rogers user, what is the best (or most current) radio to use? He has tried the UCKD1 and B2 I believe, but had problems with not getting 3G. And even when he did get those on, and tried to install the OTA update, the update crapped out on him. I'm not 100% sure his phone is the I9020A version (it seems that way for ROgers though).
So I guess I will summarize some questions, that was a bad paragraph there.
1. What is the best (most current) radio to use for Rogers?
2. Can I combine the radio from Q1, with the current stock rom (2.3.6) and just flash with CWM recovery or fastboot?
3. Can someone verify the model number (I9020A)?
Thanks for the help!
search through the radio thread for Rogers to see what others ate using. You can determine your phone model by looking at the label under your battery.
Obscurely referenced from the fifth dimension on my Nexus S

[Q] GB to ICS & BACK to GB....Possible?

I am very much interested in ICS ROM, but one basic question:
If the Radio is not good for my region, esp. the voice clarity thing, and I wish to revert back to the GB ROM with the current RADIO which is on my sensation....would the Nandroid thing work on it???? Or anyway to download the radio which is currently there in my sensation...if yes, How do i find out the Radio for my sensation??
Someone please guide me...
I was flashing ICS ROM yestarday, but things didn't go right. Restored NAND and everything is working, and i still have back my old radio.
I have seen a few reports of going back to a GB ROM over in the InsertCoin thread, so it would seem like reverting back would be an option. It would also depend on whether or not you did the full process of upgrading to an ICS ROM including updating the firmware, because I believe 4.0.1 can be run on the original firmware but 4.0.3 you must update it. According to what I have seen regarding InsertCoin anyways.
Also, I want to say that you can find your radio information if you boot into hboot. (Take battery out, hold VOL down and power). Not 100% sure though, I usually just use it to hop into recovery.
Hope I helped
I flip flopped a couple times now, just make sure u reflash gb firmware if u upgraded for ics, and always use the radio reccomended with the rom. I've had no issues.
Here's my last 4 roms, in case anyone cares.

I am currently running android revolution 5.0.2 without updating my radio or firmware and it is running very well. If I want arhd 6.0.2 then I would need to install new firmware. So far I am keeping my option to return to gingerbread without any hassle.
Flashing a rom or backup doesnt change your radio. You have to go through your bootloader for that. I havent heard any bad news about going back to GB as long as older 10.xx radios are flashed as well. And people have actually gone back succesfully while keeping newer firmware and hboot. And by people i mean me lol. I have a insertcoin GB 3.4.5 backup on tap i use regularly cuz we all know ICS is still learning how to walk on our sensations

Did you flash the radio separately? I am having the problem now as I did a NAND restore to GB, but the radio is still 11.xx...I think the battery is draining more with it. So I want to revert the radio back...but how did you do that? Just flash the radio? I flashed the recent firmware from December in HBOOT and even though it says the custom radio was flashed, the radio still says 11.xx
please let me know

You can flash a radio through hboot screen just like you did with ICS firmware. Im not sure but i dont think the firmware zip from the dec tmo ota had radio included as all radios are rolled up in a thread in the dev section. Theres a radio flashing guide somwhere too

Just wondering if you had problems with the Lock Screen display with the 3.4.5 insertcoin? I tried it, and somehow the lock screen won't display the icons..even when it's turned on from the settings

Upgrade to FP1 question (any issues with this method?)

Inherited a Droid Charge running GummyCharged 2.1 from my housemate.
I want to switch to Eclipse 2.0. I know in order to run FP1 builds, you need to run stock kernel if you want wifi. Except, I also noticed that the PBJ kernel recently fixed the wifi issue.
I'm under the impression you're told to revert to stock, run OTA update, then flash your FP1 ROM so you have the latest stock kernel.
Or is there more to it than the kernel?
I'd rather skip the revert/flash/etc/etc, I updated to the latest CWM, made a backup, factory restored, wiped cache/dalvik, flashed ROM, flashed kernel, rebooted, everything seems fine (wifi working no issues). But... that doesn't mean that it is.
EDIT: Yeah, my baseband in About Phone shows i510.06 V.EE4 SCH-I510.EE1, which is what it was before. Can I get just the baseband?
Thanks!
By the way, I don't care about carrier signal at all, this phone got wet and no longer accepts SIM cards. The other functions still work, so I'm using it on wifi and I'm trying to re-purpose the device to be a portable offline GPS for hiking. But I did read that FP1 gets better GPS locks, which is part of why I want to run it.
U cant get the fp1 upgrade on a cstom rom. U have to go back to stock n get the ota upgrade. I suggest usin titanium to back up ur stuff then flash what u want. Stock fp1 or pjb 5/24 r both good, but u gta get back to factory first.

Actually, I figured "what you do do well" and I decided to follow the suggested directions. I used ODIN, restored to stock EP4... and couldn't get past the main screen. Can't read SIM cards, so can't get past the activate screen. I then flashed back an FP1 rom, the latest PBJ kernel, and [attempted] to use the EP4 to FP1 patch, which hung and failed.
It looks like if I want to get my baseband to FP1, I'll have to jump through hoops (maybe flashing a stock EP4 pre-rooted ROM from ODIN? maybe?) Regardless, since the CDMA antenna in this thing is useless anyway, I'm just gonna skip it.
Thank you for your reply!
Well, now that you have borked your phone a bit, go and download the EP4 ODIN package and flash it (in ODIN or SamsungPST). Might not be a bad idea to flash the PIT while you're at it. You'll probably have to flash CWM, and then PBJ from within CWM (stock kernel overwrites it) Then go and try flashing your ROM of choice again (cough *tweaked* cough), either in ODIN (with the respective package) or CWM. (again with the proper package).

thanks kvswim, that's pretty much exactly what I did yesterday. I'm even running Tweaked 2.1
It's too bad, I really prefer the theme of Eclipse, but I just couldn't handle the lack of TSM Parts.

[Q] latest modem

what is the latest modem that's out for the droid charge and does anyone have an odin file for it? i'd prefer to not have to reload my phone totally just to get the latest.. currently running eclipse rom 2.0

FP5 stock only.
so there's no installable file for just the modem then? just gotta take the OTAs and go from there?

hmm... not sure. I vaguely recall someone putting the modems out somewhere, but maybe that was for FP1. maybe someone a little more experienced can chime.
sorry I could not be of any more help.
I believe I remember a patch being posted. There are no full modems for anything newer than EP4. Also, if I'm not mistaken, your signal bars will not work if you are running FP5 modems with an FP1 rom, due to the differences in the way the signal is reported.
If you ODIN the EP4 modems, there are modem updater zips you can use (CWM flashable) to go from EP4 to FP1, and then FP1 to FP5. If you are an Eclipse 2, then you are likely on FP1 (maybe anyway) and all you need is the FP1 to FP5 modem updater. That being said, if you are an FP1 build (which Eclipse 2.0 is) the signal strength reporting will be wonky when using FP5 modems. From what I understand actual connectivity isn't affected, just how the system presents the strength of that connectivity. Here is a link to it (ironically it was in the OP of the Tweaked 3 thread).
EDIT: In other words - what shrike78 said
Yup, tried all combos myself. Good.

Thanks guys! I am on FP1 Eclipse Rom 2.0. Whichever modem I currently had was constantly going in and out so I reflashed the newest one that I had, which was EP4, so that's what I have now. Where is this modem updater to go from EP4 to FP1? If I can get to FP1, I'll likely just stay there to avoid the signal reporting issues on FP5.

I'm pretty sure this is what you're looking for - lemme know if there's a problem with it.
Thanks guys! I was able to update the modem to FP1 with the tool that dwitherell linked to. My phone still does drop signal from time to time.. maybe it's just an issue in the area I live or just that the phone has had a year of use on it..

then perhaps you'll need to up it to FP5...
You can nandroid, flash factory EP4D with Odin, take both OTA's, Odin Tweaked with recovery, then restore nandroid.
Just an option

I'm tired of dealing with this flash ep4 stock, then update twice. I don't know how it's going to work out, but I'm trying to figure out how to pull the FP5E modems off of it. So far, all I'm getting is the LTE portion, not the CDMA portion. But then, I'm not done screwing around with it just yet. Hopefully I can figure out an odin file.

The CDMA portion isn't accessible. Thank Samsung for going with VIA.
The only way there were ever full flashable CDMA modems for the Charge were because there were sources for leaks. Those sources have dried up as people have moved on to other devices.
