Technically tmo does not have a cap. After 2.5gb, your speeds slow down.

Is it 2.5 or 5gb? Cuz mine slows after 5gb.
...in bed.
Mine says 5gb, now I can't even download a rom without it taking forever, anybody know how the sprint service is? an if they are truly unlimited? cuz this slow down is ridiculous, I use my phone for tethering an this slow down is killing me
In Germany T-Mobile slows down after 200/300mb per month in the cheaper contracts, but in my region they don't throttle properly as it's low population anyways, loving that (though I never get HSDPA+ speed).
To answer the op:
There was a hack for another phone that worked until T-Mobile fixed it. Now all the limiting is done "carrier side".
So there no way around this? If not I might be moving to the evo 3D an sprint cuz I can't deal with the slow down especially if I watch a movie while I'm tethering I don't even think it will load lol smh, been with tmo since 06 never had a problem with them an now they pull this slow down **** smh tmo smh
Just trade you NS and get NS4G from sprint. Unless you really want that 3d I would make sure you do the research before getting it. The EVO 3d does not have root yet.

Let me tell you, EDGE is faster than sprint 3g most of the times, now, if you live in a 4g area that is different history!

I'm in NYC, and it isn't. 3G is normally around 200-400kbs. 4G is fast but most of the time its useless if you're moving around the city. Basically most situations where it works (home, office, etc.), I'm stationary and almost always have WiFi. Its no replacement for 3G.

blah sadly today tmobile capped by data, because i went over the`5gb limit. is there a way to uncap it, or at least does anyone have an idea?
It took me just a week to get my data capped. Its because id rather use my phone and get 8mbps instead of my home Internet which is sadly 0.4mbps. I don't think its possible to get the cap removed. Your going to have to wait till your next cycle.
I thought they just throttle it and not cap it?

GEEZ, what are on do you guys do to stream so much data? I've never hit close to that in a month
Lol i practically use my phone as a computer. I download things from games to music
I thought that for Unlimited Data they just drop you down to 3G after you've used 5GB on 4G.
It is my understanding that they throttle you pretty hard at 5 GB, to GPRS or EDGE speeds.
If you haven't deleted it, My Account will show your usage. I use 3G Watchdog which will straight-line predict your end-of-month usage as well.
For people not used to the speeds available, it isn't hard to chew up 5 GB in a month. For example, if you stream 128 kbps radio for an hour in the morning and an hour on the way home, that is about 3.3 GB of payload, so probably 3.5-4 GB of data transfer a month.
Thankfully TuneIn FCs a lot
Yea man they bone you pretty hard after you go past 5gb. I went from 4g to edge smh, I am aboit to calk and complain. I am pretty sure there was a way to get passed it on the vibrant, after things get settled for the galaxy s 4g I'm sure we will be able to do the same.
I thought it was 10gb?

Yeah I thought it was 10gb too but once I passed 5gb they sent me a message and throttled my speed to edge speeds.

Thats not worth it. Every carrier has a cap even if they advertise that they don't. I've read on the internet that on sprint people get throttled and maybe even get their accounts canceled going over a certain limit. I think tmobile's is the best option right now.

Thats wrong, Sprint is the only carrier with true unlimited. Although there data speeds are the worst of the big four. I barely got 1mbs on 3G and around 4mbs on 4G. When i could get a signal, witch sucks cause i live in KC. Sprints headquaters is here, I could no longer take the slow speeds and went back to tmo where i have 4G everywhere I go. Usually around 8mbs and i have 3G around 5mbs.
http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/sprint-outs-new-tv-ad-ceo-dan-hesse-defines-unlimited
The war of words and facts continues with sprint preparing a new TV ad -- more of a campaign -- where CEO Dan Hesse goes on camera and defines the word "unlimited" and what concepts it is not compatible with.
These incompatible terms are "metering, overage, or throttling, which is code for slowing you down", Hesse says while Bill Morgan, sprint senior vice president-Corporate Marketing agrees that some of Sprint's competitors are creating confusion in their customer's minds by referencing "unlimited" plans which are not unlimited in reality.

Your prices are locked in as long as you stay with them. The prices may get even better now that together that will be bigger than Verizon and start trying to beat eachothers prices. Not to mention with any luck better service area. Still not that excited to see them merge.

Since I've never used a Thunderbolt, you'll have to take the following with a grain of salt. First, Verizon's coverage is much better than Sprint's coverage. Sprint's 'nationwide' coverage has next to no native coverage in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nevada. Other areas are more sparse than Verizon as well. However, Sprint has free roaming with 3G speeds (assuming Verizon has 3G in that area). You won't get Sprint services like Sprint Navigation, TV, etc. while roaming (at least I don't think you do).
I had the nexus s 4g for about a month, but ultimately returned it. The only reason I returned it was that I did not have a signal at my workplace. My previous phones have all had pretty poor signal at my work, but the nexus was a just a little worse (enough that it wouldn't receive the majority of calls/text, whereas my older phones would get most of them). The coverage is bad there since it's basically a concrete block and I had no problems anywhere else with the nexus s. The minor things were creaky battery cover (probably just on mine and could have been fixed with a new cover) and no led notification light.
The things I liked were good battery life (even with poor signal at my work), standard google with no sprint branding at all, native hotspot feature works like google intended it to work, the size was really nice, amoled screen looked very good, and the phone was very fast in everything I did. It was also very easy to root and get superuser on (other than needing to move some of the tools in android sdk from 'platform-tools' to 'tools').
They're making a radio update. Should've waited.

The only thing you might miss is Verizons network. Me and mikeyinid both switched from the Thunderbolt and I can personally say it was the best decision I have made.

Look up the sprint map about coverage in the other hand I'll go with the nexus man stock android blows out of the water in speed , I had an evo (thunderbolt brother , practicly with a few updates ) LTE is great tho (where it works )
Ok so I had and Evo with CM7 stable but still some how had bugs , on nexus s I don't have any bugs and I don't even miss 720 p video recording , and I'm happy that I'm getting upsates straight from google , the evo got gingerbread 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 is out and I bet that's probably the last update for evo so not gtalk video chat ... btw I'm in las vegas and I switch from verizon to sprint cheaper service and in my already better service most of the time

Like mbh87 said, we both came to the NS4G from the Bolt, and while I do miss the awesome service, the Nexus makes it worth it. I have no regrets switching. If your running CM on your bolt then the switch is a no brainer Not to mention your gonna save money with sprint. Don't let them talk you into a big plan. The 69 + 10 dollar for wimax is unlimited mobile to mobile on any network... Very good deal.

hey, i was just wondering, do you have a link to that info? i haven't heard of anything about it, but would be awesome if they did.
to the op, verizon's always gonna have better general coverage than sprint, but if your area has good sprint coverage then it shouldnt really be a problem. also sprint is always gonna be generally cheaper than verizon (not to mention they'll give you a $125 bill credit if you port your verizon number over to the nexus before the end of this month).
As far as the nexus s 4g goes, man its smooth like butter the combination of hardware/software has given me almost zero lag in the UI. but your best bet is to just go test it out at the store.
and the nexus 3, shoot thats a tough call. i was gonna wait for it and not get the ns4g on contract, but im such a big fan of the nexus that im just gonna buy the nexus 3 outright when it comes out and sell this one or possibly keep both (i love it that much).

Well considering sprint has the largest voice coverage in the US, switching to Sprint isn't a bad way to go if you are looking for good voice coverage.
Verizon has better 3G coverage though, and better 4G coverage.
Overall, my only issue with the nexus s 4g (vs. my old evo) is the wifi antenna is not as good. While the bars jump around much more than the evo, I get similar performance/coverage.
If fast data speeds are very important to you, verizon is probably a better bet. If you just need data connection to grab emails, use google navigation, etc, sprint works great.
I'm in San Francisco right now and am clearly in AT&T's 4g territory. Well I'm only pulling 3mb down on a speed test. And my buddy who is sitting right next to me with his iPhone 4 is pulling 4.5 down. I thought the iPhone 4 was only hspa and not even plus?

A data plan is of course, always going to be a data plan. There is no difference from one plan to another AFAIK besides 2GB and 4GB or if you're grandfathered for unlimited.
Just obviously with software updates etc. to enable "4G".
I'm up here in MT and I barely touch 1.5Mbps if I'm lucky. My friend has the same issue, and AT&T keeps telling me it's because MT is a "new acquisition". BS I've had the service for almost 3 months now. Learn to put up more towers!

Comparing the iphone to the inspire is not really fair as the iphone doesnt use the same apn settings, and they also have a reserved amount of bandwith set aside for iphones only. Not to mention they seem to go faster due to alot of things being cached on Apples servers which the iphone connects to first so it seems like they can pull data faster but it is not what it seems.
Ah, I'm not the only one pulling down slower speeds than other devices. My GF's Infuse consistently pulls down 6-7 mbps while my Inspire, at the same time and location, will pull down 3-4. My build prop is edited, and I've tried other radios (and rils) with not much luck. Is this a device capability issue?
The only thing I haven't done is mess with APNs much. I feel as though it won't change anything, but eventually I'll try that as well.

I would try that, As it can have a great impact on your connection. I could set you up with the old apn settings and you would pull edge speeds. So it only goes to reason that the APN settings might have a large thing to do with it.

I'm going to look around at the speeds others are getting. I just can't seem to get more than 3-5 mbps. I know my area is capable of it because my GF's Infuse gets 5-8 mbps consistently, and at the same time I test mine. Weird.
I'll wait for compelling results before I change mine, because I've been modding heavily the last few days and I'm exactly not in the testing mood.

Hahaha. man, I wish I could. Only other network they use is att, but they suck too. sprint network speeds blow - plus 4g coverage is terrible. Ah, I hate sense. It's terrible. The phone is snappy, and the 3d pictures and movies is cool, but will probably get old. The g2x seems to handle video's better. Man, the grass is never greener. You guys should be happy you have a beast for a phone. If I had a choice, I'd be back in a heart beat. ...but, I basically got a100 a month raise, and a free phone, but I have to pay cancellation charges.

My employer's carrier is AT&T so they pay my bill for 2 lines and I got a free Infuse. In my area data speeds are just slightly slower than Tmo but the Infuse is a wicked device.

Dude if they use at&t then pick up a G2x and use it on at&t
Granted the data may be a little slower because frequencies are different but at least you'd have the real deal.

3G nor 4G will work on AT&T.. the phone's advertising was wrong. It does not support those bands for AT&T.
The g2x is great in terms of hardware. But LG just fails to provide good software support. Wasted hardware really.

I wish that was the case, but they pay the entire bill, unlimited everything, and for some reason, they use sprint. I can't stand Sprint download speeds. They are pitiful. Avg for me so far has been .5-2 mb/s, while my tmobile was about 3-7mb/s. That's quite the drastic drop.

My job decided to get me a company phone and start paying the bill, but only problem is, they use sprint. So, I had them get me the new evo 3d. I've always been a fan of t mobile and their network, but hey, I'm saving 100a month. Well, got my new phone setup, and must say, sprint is a lot slower than t mobile is, and the phone is kind of a let down. The 3d is cool, but I can't stand sense at all. Plus quadrant scores are lower.
I know we have been getting a lot of I hate my g2x, but I miss mine already. Plus, not a fan of a locked boot loader. Just wanted to share some g2x love.

Tell your boss that your looking for the best deal for the company and that switching to T-mobile you can save the company money while getting the phone and service you want. T-mobile business is UTTW for $44.99 per line.

Where did you see this advertising? I'd like to see it.
EDIT: I mean something where LG said it was quadband. Not Tmobile.

There were multiple threads when the phone first came out. People were angry that they wouldn't be able to use 3G/4G on AT&T with the phone.
I believe the incorrect advertising was on T-Mobile's end.

I was with T-Mobile for 8 years up until I switched to Sprint last fall as I got a job with them and free service. Hard, T-Mobile was always awesome with data and their hspa + upgrade in denver was amazing.I had nexus one at the time, which wasn't an hspa + device but I still pulled 5mbps on 70ping in many places. On Sprint, I couldn't even stream Pandora at my gym! Since then, I moved but issues were still there, from service disruptions to data drops, to speeds capping at 300kbps and 4g being pretty damn awful and a battery kill. Just now couldn't take it anymore and dropped to buy g2x with the online sale lol.

Calling 2G (Edge) a "little" slower than 3G or 4G is the understatement of the year

I can't wait for the Hercules. Its pretty much a Infuse with a dual core CPU. Nobody knows for sure which dual core it will be but I've seen speculation that it will be a Qualcomm. Then again, everyone speculated everyone's SGSII to look the same since we saw cases on a website but we all know that speculation was wrong since ATT'S is a slider. Hell, the Hercules might not eveb have a 4.5 inch screen at this point since everyone was totally wrong on saying ATT, Verizon and Sprints would be the same form factor as the European version.

I'm telling you, their 4g service is a joke. I can never find it, and if I do, I can never get above 2.5 mb. There 3g is a joke, and I have to use wifi. I absolutely hate their service, and their customer service sucks too. Only reason I'll stay with them, I'm getting a full free ride. I might see if I can eventually switch to att, since the big wigs at my company use them for their iphones. I'd never get an iphone, of course. Guys, you are lucky to have your download speeds. I called their customer service, and told them I was getting pour speeds compared to t mobile, and she asked me, what's the benefit of faster download speeds anyway! Seriously! I hung up.

Lol yea I know how it goes, its crazy down there and my buddy who lives in Georgia is on sprint as well, he's been having same issues as me for the past few months. During off hours I could get 2mbps down some places, while still not get any data downtown Denver.... 4g is always one bar Max, unless I am at my store, and it literally drops signal like no other, no point in even wasting my battery on keeping my wimax antenna on... even if I do get 2mbps its still way slow compared to T-Mobile, ping of 300 really does make it seem even slower as well.
I went to the gym tonight and got my buddy there to download speed test on his g2, was during peak hours. He got 6mbps down while I couldn't even open Facebook lol.

so im coming from a HTC Radar. what things will i miss? and is the gsm version for tmobile? do i have to unlock or anything?
Model I9020T is the T-mobile version that runs on T-mobile 3g and edge network no unlock required phone comes unlocked out of the box!
You'll miss the 4G and 720P recording. Other than that both phones have about the same capabilities. It's pretty easy to unlock the Nexus S.
You'll miss Zune, thats it. Everything else is a plus.

hows battery life?
since no 720, hows the video and picture recording?
and should the other person im trading wiht put extra money in?
Battery life is excellent!
Video is 720x480 (Standard DVD quality)
It's hard to say about the extra money. Maybe an extra $50 (to you that is).
For a Radar? You should be paying to get rid of that thing.

That's the ATT version. For Tmobile you need either i9023 or i9020T.
I'm using a i9020a on T-Mobile. I don't even care about slow data speeds

If you just want to use Wifi/Using it as a normal phone, you will be fine with a i9020a. But if you want data 2G is really slow and to the point of unusable.

I remember a time not long ago when I would have thought 2G speed was fast for a home internet connection. Now people find it unacceptable for nearly anything. Wonderful as technology's rapid advancement is, it sure has made people impatient.
I mostly use wifi anyways.
