Just an observation here. Maybe someone with more knowledge can answer.
But now that all T-Mobile USA users have S-off... should we open a new forum for T-Mobile USA phones? I ask this because it seems we will have custom ROMs based off foreign RUUs and OTAs all mixed up in the same thread. Which would bring a lot of "Can I flash this if I'm a USA T-Mo user?" type questions.
Now this may just be a misunderstanding and the custom ROMs may not affect the radio or whatever & thus not be an issue. Just the same I felt it better to ask the question and look stupid than keep it to myself and be right.
Anyone?
I don't think any of the forums split the development sections in the way you're suggesting. You should be able to flash any ROM regardless of what the base is. Just have to read up to make sure it plays nice as some introduce bugs.

The Leo and T-Mobile US HD2 once had their own forums, but they where eventually merged into one once it became clear that with the proper labeling of releases people where more likely to successfully flash something, than not(IE, that's why we enforce the ROM labeling system that we do here, which was kanged from the HD2 section).
As of right now I see no need to split these forums, as currently ROMs seem to be interchangeable between regions and devices.

Okay. I guess that was part of my question. For example, I saw this ROM posted and it's based on official HTC RUU 1.35.401.1
But since I'm a T-Mobile USA user I wasn't sure if the ROM would alter the frequencies my device operates on...etc. I believe this was an issue back when I had the Samsung Vibrant. There was a European variant known as the i9000. We could not flash the i9000 ROMS without having them ported to our Vibrants properly.

I suspect it will be like the different modems on the SGS series of phones ( I had a Captivate ), I tried Mike's rom on my T-mo USA Sensation and when I tested the data speeds I got about 1/2 the dl speed sitting in the same spot within however long it took to run my recovery ( ran speedtest 5 times and averaged out ).
I'm sure they will iron out the radio thing before long, other than the data speed issue the Rom ran perfect.

So looking through the development subforum I noticed that there's a lot of roms there that will probably not work completely for the NS4G. Should there be a separate development subforum for the NS4g? This would make it easier to determine at a glance if the rom is compatible with the phone. It may at the very least help reduce questions from people new to rooting.
(Update) I'd like to make it clear that this thread is based on the assumption that NS roms do not work on NS4G phones. This has been reported on some roms(mainly, data doesn't work). If they end up being compatible with a minor tweak or something, then by all means discard this. (/update)

I'm not so sure that is 100% certain yet.
Support for the Nexus 4G was just added into AOSP Gingerbread branch in 2.3.4. So far none of the custom ROMs like CyanogenMod or MIUI have fully merged 2.3.4 into their code base.
There is a chance we will see "universal" ROMs that will work.
Remember, there were three Nexus S devices even before the 4G: i9020T, i9020A, and i9023. And while those are all "GSM" phones, the radios do not work on each other's 3G networks.
I agree if there is danger of easily flashing something by mistake that will brick your phone, make them separate. And when I was first planning on getting a Nexus, I wanted the same thing. But the truth is, now that I've had a Nexus for almost a month, it would suck to have all the variants split up. The ideal solution would be to all stick together to keep the community of developers larger and to have ROMs and kernels that are easily compatible or at least easily compiled for multiple devices (then each dev thread could just link to each version).
Maybe that won't work, but so far, the 4G "dev" section would have a total of like two threads in it. So why not just wait and see what happens?

this might be true, we may need a separate (sub)forum for the NS4G. this phone is still very new and the developers haven't completely dissected the phones software differences yet. Netarchy has already put out a kernel that is compatible for both phones, who's to say that once the differences get sorted out that a rom can't be universal. it would be nice to have one big NS development scene instead of splitting it in two.

All, just FTR I started this after seeing several ROMs reported as not working with the NS4G. This is assuming that there is some reason why the two aren't completely compatible. If they are, then by all means we should keep the layout the same as it is. I literally just got mine so I haven't had a chance to root or test it, so I'm not a good judge of that fact.
I'll update the first post with the suggestions posted in previous comments.
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but there's separate boards for the gsm hero/ cdma hero :/ seems like we need different forums

SuperAosp 8.0 is a complete 2.3.4 custom rom.
We need a NS4G user to extract their radio kernel (D720SPRKD8) So it can be tried out using a custom rom that is fully 2.3.4 such as SuperAosp 8.0

I vote for 2 sub / sub forums i.e.
xda-developers > Samsung Nexus S > Nexus S Development
xda-developers > Samsung Nexus S > Nexus S 4G Development

Okay so I was on a few different LTE devices for a while (Charge and Revo) , and I am about to be back on a Thunderbolt in a few days.
When I was originally on the Tbolt, it was April, we barely had a Gingerbread Leak and I believe MR2 had been leaking around.
My question to you guys is, what's the best root method currently (ADB, or Revolutionary?) and also....
What radio should I be on when I get the device to be able to enjoy most of the roms out there. I'm hoping to be able to enjoy some Gingerbread.
Sorry for the newbness as I have been a crack flasher with Odin and other Samsung stuff that I completely lost track of Tbolt development.

best radio is subjective.
some people for some reason still believe radios from 6 months ago are better than current ones.

The most recent CWM is good, but the early 5.x releases had some issues. Not sure what the newest one is. I'm still on 3.something... cuz it just works.
There's a lot of opinion in radios. Right now I'm using the RUU 1.70 CDMA radio with the RUU 2.11.605.3 LTE radio. Generally there's not a big difference. I'd say the 2.10 and newer radios, including the 1.70 radios, are probably the most popular at the moment.
I seem to get better download speeds with the 802 radio than the 906. Not sure about the lte one yet though. Is there a combined release of the 906 for cdma and lte

The radio could be anyone of the GB radios. Best bet is to take a few for a drive and see what works best for you. I use the 802 with good results. I used Revolutionary and everything was soooooo easy. The recovery in revolutionary is very easy too. The only big question is what ROM to use. I would suggest to try the one that lasts a long time (name omitted because of a spat between this forum and their Devs). I hope you can read beween the lines. And there's a host of AOSP ROM's too. Good luck and let us know what you choose.

Don't worry, I know who you are referring too, i was running their rom when I originally left the Tbolt. I hear they are some bad a mofo's..

I realize many of you see this as a dumb question. But I see a lot of posts about radios. I've tried looking around the web what it is but couldn't really find good explaining information. I see a lot of posts for flashing the radio and a lot of different versions.
I'm running MIUI on my Sensation 4G and if radio is something I need to flash then I want to know what it is before I try flashing and brick my phone. So I've managed to find the version I have so if someone can point me the right direction I'd be very grateful.
So the main question is - WHAT IS RADIO?
So this is what I got

the radio pretty much just has to do with the wireless connectivity of ur phone, so ur wifi, bluetooth, 3g all controlled by your phones radio.
you shouldnt have to flash a new radio for every rom, if your facing problems, and think a new radio could fix them then you could try a new radio if you wanted.

Flashing the radio is just about the only sure fire way of bricking it.. It's one of those things people are most skeptical about flashing. No nandroid will save you with an improperly flashed radio
EDIT: I've been flashing roms for a long time now and not once have I ever had to flash a new radio.

OK. I installed the HD Revolution 3.6.9 ROM days ago and have 2 major issues. As I am a new member, I am unable to post in the developmental section. Grateful for the OP to ask the question as I am also seeking to know "what radio is".
Although, I also want to ask - what is a kernel?
I believe thousands of members installed that HD Revolution 3.6.9 ROM and I couldn't find any reference for bluetooth and mms issues.
My phone can only detect my Nokia phone, my Plantronics bluetooth M100 is undetectable.
I am also unable to send MMS and yes, I tried the original settings, called the network and played with different settings but problem persists.
I checked the Hardware Information of the phone and it says "Bluetooth address - unavailable"
Kernel is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. So basically kernel tells all the hardware what to do (overclocked processors, undervolted batteries and etc) So far best one I've tried for Sensation 4G is the 2.6.35.14 Trinity S4G. Processor is overclocked to 1.7Ghz from stock 1.2 Ghz and the battery life is great!

btw try wiping you sd card and then flashing the Rom. helped me few time (im no developer )

Well that I'm not sure how accurate this statement is. That's why I started this thread just to know what it is. But from all the info I gathered online, you don't really need to flash a radio. Every thread with radios I saw that ppl will put a warning that you might brick your phone. So, my phone works great, never had any problems so I'll stay on the safe side (for now) and just do more research

Good decision..
I have searched and have yet to see a leaked RUU for the T-Mo/US version of the Sensation. Is there one out there? I am sure the Euro versions are fine, but I am a T-Mo customer and not big on some of the small issues with Euro roms on a US phone... Any thoughts or ideas?

Seems the European Builds have much less issues and better performance. Id ask Matt who created the SS4g and the Enhanced XE builds. He switched bases from Tmo to Euro recently, and Im sure he has a better reason that I do, although I just heard Tmos builds didnt hold up so well against the euro builds in most areas. Wifi calling works fine as does my account on Euro ROMs so no issue there
I somewhat agree and see your point, but be prepared for some clown to come in and say, "Well build your own ROM".

So someone please explain to me how This Is possible. I was under the belief in my understanding of android that this is a BIG NO NO. I do realize and I may not fully understand the similarities and differences between the different versions of the SGS3 but I would think that because of the Radio being different among all of the carriers that Kernels would be totally different as well. I will reference the Fascinate and the Mesmerize for example. Pretty much the same phone but completely different as far as anything and everything development wise. So what it boils down is this
1. Can we flash kernels designed for the At&t, Sprint, or T-Mobile versions of our phone.
2.What versions of the SGS3 can we SAFELY flash Kernels from.
3.How is this possible given the differences in the different phones.(Question for my sake cause I am really curious and hope i can get a good explanation regarding this)

There have been some successful instances of sprint kernels being flashed that I've seen, but it is never a great idea to flash kernels not specifically designed for your phone. btw. there are some pretty good kernels available for vzw now
It's a pretty bad idea. There is a very small chance it could work but more than likely it won't boot

And i figured as much. I am just REALLY surprised it worked and I just kinda wanna know why it worked. The technical reasons to be honest. But to play it safe i will just stick with those kernels that have been made for the Verizon version thus far. I am still hesitant using the Sprint Kernel even knowing it works.

Again idk everything there is about Android but i wonder if it possible due to the fact our unlocked bootloader is partially sprint or something along those lines. That is why i was hoping someone would see this and chime in with a technical explanation and then either a go for it, no, or tread with caution. When the phone was being released there was talks of a rom kitchen being established between the carriers and i was hoping that this was a part of that. Meaning that someone who Devs for the AT&T version of the SGS3 can have their rom or kernel ported to Sprint version and then the Verizon and T-Mobile variants. Some kernels could very well work, same as some stock themes for sprint will work with stock roms on verizon (jellybomb domination being one of them) the issue is that some things could be carried over that may not play nice with our phones and vice versa. While it may run perfectly fine, there's a greater risk that it could break something.
I have yet to run an AOSP rom because of the IMEI issues, so i can't really comment on that, but i know if i was going to flash another carriers kernel i would make sure to make a backup first.
