[Q] How many mAh your Sensation use ? - HTC Sensation

Hello guys.
I have the Sensation for 3 days now, and i`m dissapointed about the battery life. I`m coming from Android HD2 who in stand-by had 2-7mAh consumption. This is my first native android phone, so i don`t know what numbers Current widget should show.
I switched off bluetooth, wifi, mobile network, gps and my consumption is 168mAh which seems a bit higher.
So, if anyone could verify on his phone, because i want to know if this happens with all the phones or just mine.
Thanks is advance!

Take the results from that app with a grain of salt. Usually, what it reports is not accurate. You can only notice how your battery life is after a few charge cycles(will take a few weeks)

That's about average. I use Green Power to save some battery. I get a few more hours from using it. Also I'm using the 1900mah Anker battery.

No battery monitor correctly reports standby current yet

The brightness setting seems to have more influence on battery life than anything else in my experience. Try setting brightness to 20% or less. I tried auto initially but there appears to be some issues with the auto setting where it gets changed to 100% after using the camera, etc.

I just tried turning off auto brightness and setting the screen much less bright than auto had it set to. I then checked the mAh using Battery Monitor. It said 221 mAh. Turned auto brightness back on and it shows 136mAh, even though the screen is clearly brighter. Did this twice and auto used less mAh both times.
So, something doesn't make sense. Either Battery Monitor is nuts, brightness is not correlated with mAh the way we all think it is, or auto is somehow more efficient than a fixed setting.

I've actually run into that issue while my setting was at ~%20 and also when the phone starts up. Though it doesn't come up often enough for me to try anything other than manually changing the screen brightness back down.

Does auto brightness kill battery quicker?

As title says
Sent from my Sensational BEAST 4G
Yes
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
I'm not so sure, this is only a theory & I'm no expert on this - but wouldn't it be dependent on the lighting conditions?
So if you're somewhere where you need your screen to be bright, that'd kill the battery quicker than in situations where your screen only needs to be dim.
But then there's also the sensor to think about, which has an effect on the battery, so if you're using auto-brightness, and your screen is dim for the life of the battery, it'd still use more power than if it was manually set to dim (no auto-brightness).
Yes!!!!

One day i was on auto brigthness and my on screen time was 2 hrs whereas next day under similar usage and brightness at lowest the on screen time was 2 hrs 35 min...
Extra 35 min by putting on lowest instead of auto

Auto brigthness always ate my battery, so now I never use it!
It does seem like auto brightness will kill your battery sooner. I used to use it all the time on my nexus one but once I found that information out I stopped.
For my sensation i just set the screen brightness for a low setting for which I could tolerate.
Although, I don't know how this happens but at times when my battery is dying faster than normal and I check the brightness setting, it is all the way up with no auto brightness checked. It has only happened a few times, but don't know what caused it, if it was my accident for which I am not aware.

I have never had an issue with auto-brightness, and have left it always on
I think it depends.
Auto Brightness will use up a little cpu but if it keeps your screen a lower brightness then if you didn't use it, it will probably save your battery life. If you find it keeps your screen brighter than usual it will probably kill your battery life.

I agree with you it all depends on the lighting conditions if you are in the sun all day your screen will auto adjust to max so you can see it better. If you are inside the screen will dim. I personalty keep mine on auto because I am always in drastic lighting conditions

This is a bug with the camera. Sometimes when you open the camera app it sets the brightness all the way up. sadly it's still not fixed even with the update.
Thanks for that information on the camera application, I thought I was losing my mind.

What's your Battery drainage - Your Average mA - Battery monitor widget beta APK!

Hi, I've been having battery issues with my sensation so I've tried all options in kernels and more but nothing seem to work for me. I would like to know how much mA (milliampere) our sensation should be draining depending on your setup of course.
You can find out using BATTERY MONITOR WIDGET or CURRENT WIDGET (enable log opt) they are free on the market and great if not the best tools for battery monitoring:
SEE POST ON PAGE 2 FOR THE BETA APK :')
PLEASE POST YOUR SETUP : your rom and kernel, if you're using 3g or wifi, having the sync on, animations, basically anything that would affect the battery.
Hope we can get and more accurate idea of what to expect with different configuration and find solutions so everyone can get the most out of their battery!
Edit: I've contacted the developer of battery monitor widget and he as accepted the invitation to come explain sharing a beta version that show the correct mA values for our sensation. NOW IM GETTING MORE THEN 12H WITH 70% SCREEN ON 3G AND SYNC...
Hi my name is DloBrown and Im A nightly addict who've been sober for too long!!!
I'm on Melvin's latest Beast rom and Faux 0.1.2 N_1.56ghz kernel with 3g and sync always on, screen set to auto, animations off and 5 homescreens full of widgets... I have an 1730mA evo 3d battery and I get about 300mA on average and 150mA screen off that about 6hours of heavy heavy usage
Hi my name is DloBrown and Im A nightly addict who've been sober for too long!!!
Even in airplane mode over night I'm losing about 200mA on average and like you nothing I can do seems to be able to change this fact. According to the Enlarge your battery life post it ought to be less than 10mA.

Wow... I know I'm a heavy user but even on airplane mode??? On my desire hd I. Could get 8-30 mA while in sleep mode wifi on... It's seems the sensation don't sleep properly. In sleep mode still draining like crazy. Thx for your post!
Hi my name is DloBrown and Im A nightly addict who've been sober for too long!!!
Why is our battery history in spare parts doesn't show the "partial wake usage"...?
I'm on a Android Revolution HD 3.0.2 with 3G watchdog and JuiceDefender running constantly, data on only while the screen is on, nothing else is on and I get an average of 250mA losing. When I do smth with my phone, it jumps up to around 500-600. Lowest at 120 for some brief moments.
I am a medium user with some internet on the go [ which uses more battery because of the signal strength changing every couple of seconds ], a lot of calls [ a lot calling me too ], few sms messages, gmail syncing every 30 mins, a little gps and this kind gets me through the day about 15hours.
But when I use the internet fully for a whole hour, the battery drops down to about 55%,
Very unstable battery drainage.
Using Superlite 1.4 and the lowest mine has ever been is 120mah in flight mode (LeeDroid was 220 at lowest).
I've tried nearly every ROM now and can't get any more than 12 hours use. This is a real problem when you're away for 18 hours with no access to a charge point
Didn't use the phone at all yesterday (maybe turned the screen on half a dozen times for a few seconds) and it went to 30% in 18 hours.
Only thing I have running is POP email (15 minute pull) and the rest is stock.
No Wifi, no bluetooth, usually 3g.
Sadly, I didn't keep the stock ROM long enough to see how much it drains..... I just had to flash
Stock Rom stock kernel. I have 1850 mAh 3d EVO extended battery I just got. Drained it and charged fully. I got 19 hrs no sync brightness all the way up WiFi on the whole time 3 hrs of display time. Hour or so of call time. Moderate usage I think. Stock battery I would only get about 10 hours out of it.

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that all of those current reading programs don't report the current drain correctly on the sensation.

That's correct, theres no app currently out, that can show the correct mA drainage.
..I mean if it really drain 200mA in an hour overnight it should be dead after about 8 hours sleep - simple calculation ^^.

Oh I'm using both battery monitor and current widget... Only issues with reporting mA on sensation was in standy mode... I'm using a beta version of battery monitor widget and It's fix i've got more than 12h with 70% display...my phone got as low as 13mA in sleep mode!!! ... Got 3g sync, my 5 homescreens of widgets...I'm amazed first time I'm getting those numbers
I'll contact the app dev and ask I'm if I can share the beta version that he sent me because don't know what he did but it worked for me!! I'll post a screen shot later today.
THANK YOU for posting guys! Remember to put rom/kernel and screen shots if possible

Battery Monitor Widget - beta APK for Sensation devices
Here is a beta APK (official update over the week-end).
This will fix the wrongly reported mA usage during standby... 200mA in standby means 8 hours max on standby with a 1500mAh battery! I got 40+ hours of standby/use.
To take advantage of the update, you have to enable the 'mA corrections' in the monitoring settings! Indeed there's a bug on Sensation battery driver/hardware, and HTC doesn't seem to want to fix it! It's fixed on the Evo 3D though!
One more note, I don't recommend using both BMW and Current Widget. Current Widget is a nice widget but it consumes more than BMW. You can verify that using System Tuner recording feature!
In future posts, it might be a good idea to post screen shots of the graphics showing times with screen on/off!
EDIT: Pro users should have received the update through Market, if not just check Market manually!

Hi my name is DloBrown and Im A nightly addict!!!
I was concerned when I first started reading. I don't have the device yet, so I didn't know there was a bug with mA reporting (which should be very low in standby - like, less than 20). I'm interested to hear more people chime in.

The bug is actually in the kernel reporting the value... It keeps saying 200-300mA incorrectly even when you get a 1% drain every 3/4 hours!
The app is trying to work-around this issue to provide accurate reading no matter what. Only Battery Monitor Widget is able to do that right now!
Now, some are having battery issues... happens with every phones anyway!
For the Battery Monitor Widget Pro users, the update has been released on Market, so please feel free to report on the app thread or the app web site.

If you are having battery issues on a stock ROM. Check the htc sense sync interval under accounts and sync. Stock setting is "push", that killed my battery initally. I disabled it entirely and my battery life is great.

[Q] Why is my standby battery usage high?

Hi, I have just come over from the HD2 threads as I'm using a Sensation XE now . My battery current when running android on standby was around 7 - 20 ma. On my XE it is between 180 and 220ma. I killed all running tasks etc but still no change. i'm using Battery Monitor Widget to check the currents. The only thing i have on is mobile internet. I also have on background sync but that was on with my HD2 as well. Is there anything I should look out for that my being draining the battery? Also I'm on stock rom
What did you already tried to solve the problem? Did you already do a soft reset/wipe all data (except that on the SD card)? How long is your battery life?
Yesterday i called HTC because my battery life is reduced drastically compared to a few weeks ago. They told me to turn off everything like bluetooth, wifi etc (after a soft reset) and put the phone in plane mode while screen brightness was 100% and screen time out never so the screen stays on during the test. Next I needed to write down how fast the battery was drained. My battery was at 55% after 2 hours (without doing anything with the phone). According to HTC this was to fast and therefore they send me a new battery.

In 1 hour of standby the battery has drained 5%. the battery current usage is way to high for standby. I have had this phone on 3 days so I dont think i need to do a full wipe. I dont use wifi or bluetooth and they are always switched off. Seems strange to have a high battery usage while in standby compared to my hd2. This battery is meant to be a high capicity
use battery monitor widget (use a beta version from the forum, not the market). set it to "mA corrections" and choose automatic from the list of supported phones. i get anywhere from 5-7 mA drain (standby, of course).

Well took my phone off charge at 11.05 today and its been on standby. It's now 15.52 and battery is still on F. Battery drain is now at -3 so i'm well happy.
Thanks indie. Can you let us know what will be happening in the future with your battery?

And change back to the Sensation battery, it's actually better than the 3Ds. The Evo guys are using the Sensation battery and getting about 2hrs more in back to back tests. Be happy you don't have a 3D. When I had mine, I got 2hrs hard use with 4G and 4hrs with 3g. I get 8hrs with my Sensation overclocked.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using xda premium
Well for starters, your screen was on for almost 2 hours straight and your signal wasn't very good for most of that. I can assume that since your screen was on for 2 hours straight you must have been using it or the screen would not have been on that long. Streaming a 2 hour movie on a not so great connection will eat your battery up almost completely, especially if you are using full brightness. Android phones in general are battery eaters. My Sensation battery life is actually a lot better than my Vibrant was so I'm happy. Buy a couple batteries on Ebay for 15 bucks or use Juice Defender. I use my phone pretty heavily and can make it through the day. I can get over 24 hours using Juice Defender.
Did You wipe battery stats after change battery?
Also tell us which ROM and Kernel You use now. I'm sure that 3/4 ROM's here are useless. I have ROM from new leak and have 0 issues, also with battery.
I got two Anker 1900mAh batteries and they made a reasonable improvement to my use.
Typically with full sync and okish signal I got about 1h40m of screen on time with about 14 hours off charger.
With Anker under the same daily use its between 2h to 3h screen on in the same period.
Also that means I now have three batteries.
Sorry to say but having owned a Motorola Milestone, Galaxy S, Nexus S and now Sensation I can simply say that the battery life on Android is crap in general for heavy users.
My girl has an iPhone 3G and 4, the screen on time is often over 6 hours which I put down to intimate development of software and hardware.
I am choosing flexibility over longevity for now.

Did you calibrate or change radios recently? You could have a defective battery(s) or maybe the kernel is causing excessive drain.
I noticed this issue too when I was using Sense-based ROMs before I switched to a CM7-based rom.
Been off battery for 9 hours and 9 minutes with 77% left - I've never seen battery life this great and I don't think I see myself going back to Sense any time soon for my HTC Sensation 4G.
I was very disapointed with how fast the stock HTC Sensation battery drained even with normal use, just like you.
I took the advise from some here and got the Anker battery from Ebay for 10.00.
The best thing I ever did.
WOW! Did it improve the battery life on the Sensation.
Now I do not have to worry about the battery draining down fast on me.
With the Anker battery, my phone lasts all day and into the night .

Sensation XE Battery appauling

Bought the sensation XE a couple of days ago. The only think I keep about is the battery.
I have two HTC batteries and I have been using them simultaneously (taking one out put next in, other goes on charge etc)
I am going through two full charges a day and am on the third battery.
This is crazy, is it me? What am I doing wrong? Might me ICS..?
What settings are you using on your phone? (auto brightness, background data..etc...) And what is your usage rate? Are you using stock or custom ROM?

What apps do you have installed and what accounts on sync?
It usually take a while for the battery to reach it's full capacity. Give it like a week, then judge the battery.
my battery was horrible! I finally put Anker battery in ,rooted, got custom Rom, now its excellent! Very happy! Can go all day without charge!

Mind posting a picture of your batt stats? And how many hours of screen time you have. Here are some tips..
1. Use manual brightness. I usually use 10-50% only. The lower your brightness the less power you consume.
2. Disable auto sync. Disable push notifications unless really needed.
3. Disable led lights and vibrations for keyboard and soft keys.
4. Use mobile data only when you need to. If not, turn it off.
5. You can try juicedefender. Works for some, doesn't work for me.
6. Don't use live wallpapers.
7. Run a custom rom and kernel. I'm using virtuous inquisition 4.0.2 with sebastionFM 1.4.1 kernel. It's fast smooth yet easy on the battery.
8. As your battery is still new give it a few charge cycles. It should stabilise within a week or so..
9. Do download betterbatterystats and check on what's hogging your battery. Also check with cpuspy whether your phone goes into deep sleep or not.
With the methods I've mentioned I'm achieving about 20 hours standby with 5 hours of screen time. I consider myself quite a heavy user. If you do your math that's like 15minutes of use per hour.

It usually take a while for the battery to reach it's full capacity. Give it like a week, then judge the battery.

I agree with this, give it time.

I also bought an Anker battery and can run 40 hours on low use and over 24 on medium I use the regular as a spare on my travels
Thanks for replies. I am rooted, on stock ROM currently, looking for a new efficient ROM, any ideas?

Mind posting a picture of your batt stats? And how many hours of screen time you have. Here are some tips..
1. Use manual brightness. I usually use 10-50% only. The lower your brightness the less power you consume.
Hate lower brightness, it is always on full.
2. Disable auto sync. Disable push notifications unless really needed.
Already turned off.
3. Disable led lights and vibrations for keyboard and soft keys.
Already turned of vibrations for keyboards.
4. Use mobile data only when you need to. If not, turn it off.
Do anyway.
5. You can try juicedefender. Works for some, doesn't work for me.
Tried.
6. Don't use live wallpapers.
Like live wallpapers
7. Run a custom rom and kernel. I'm using virtuous inquisition 4.0.2 with sebastionFM 1.4.1 kernel. It's fast smooth yet easy on the battery.
Shall do.
8. As your battery is still new give it a few charge cycles. It should stabilise within a week or so..
My second battery isn't new and has been used by other phones. It acts in the same way - poor battery life.
9. Do download betterbatterystats and check on what's hogging your battery. Also check with cpuspy whether your phone goes into deep sleep or not.
Installed.

Im using ordroid now, but ARHD is great as well. Both give me excellent juice. U should try other kernels as well. Faux is my fave..
I get 4:10 hours of screen on time only. Every single time +/- 10 minutes. Charge every 2 days.
95% of 4:10 hours is web browsing, Words with Friends and Draw Something.
Stock HTC Sensation. Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
My settings:
Wifi, Mobile Data controlled by Easy Battery Saver on Intelligent Mode.
Brightness-> Auto Brightness. Most 50%+ because I work outdoors.
GPS- Off
Gaming-> Only 2D.
Music-> Lots of music.
Web browsing -> Mostly Wifi only because I have Wifi wherever I go.
Calls: 10-12 a day approx.
My iPhone 4 used to last me 3-4 days. The screen on time for that was 7-8 hours. Yeah so the battery life is really appalling. Buying iPhone 5 (6) when it comes.

A battery that last 3 days is not worth being stuck with IOS. BORING.

Unfortumately HTC's power management isn't very good but it has improved in ics. If it matters to you that much I say go for a Samsung galaxy s2.

It's not the battery its the way the phone will use it. In actual fat I believe that the HTC sensation battery is very slightly larger than the one in the iPhone 4

Hmmm 4 hours of screen time is really quite good actually. Charging every two or three days isn't too bad right? Considering the benefits and flexibility of android over iOS.

Give your battery some days to reach its full capacity as mentioned. But no matter what, running a custom rom with power optimizations is the best solution.
Currently faux latest 07b1 kernel is giving me awesome awesome battery life.

With official ICS, I am now getting around 5:30 screen time. That's good enough. I think if I buy EVO 3D battery for my Sensation I will get 7-8 hours like my iPhone so I'm going to do that.
You can try easy battery saver, it's work with my phone and is very efficient.
