HTC battery life - HTC Sensation

Can someone tell me why me battery life is so crap on HTC sensation. I'm using evo 3d battery which is 1730 mah.but what's annoying is that my brightness is set to auto and 15 second to turn the screen off but still my display is using more than 90%.
Please help me because everything is turned off and only wifi is on.

And change back to the Sensation battery, it's actually better than the 3Ds. The Evo guys are using the Sensation battery and getting about 2hrs more in back to back tests. Be happy you don't have a 3D. When I had mine, I got 2hrs hard use with 4G and 4hrs with 3g. I get 8hrs with my Sensation overclocked.

Well for starters, your screen was on for almost 2 hours straight and your signal wasn't very good for most of that. I can assume that since your screen was on for 2 hours straight you must have been using it or the screen would not have been on that long. Streaming a 2 hour movie on a not so great connection will eat your battery up almost completely, especially if you are using full brightness. Android phones in general are battery eaters. My Sensation battery life is actually a lot better than my Vibrant was so I'm happy. Buy a couple batteries on Ebay for 15 bucks or use Juice Defender. I use my phone pretty heavily and can make it through the day. I can get over 24 hours using Juice Defender.

Did You wipe battery stats after change battery?
Also tell us which ROM and Kernel You use now. I'm sure that 3/4 ROM's here are useless. I have ROM from new leak and have 0 issues, also with battery.

I got two Anker 1900mAh batteries and they made a reasonable improvement to my use.
Typically with full sync and okish signal I got about 1h40m of screen on time with about 14 hours off charger.
With Anker under the same daily use its between 2h to 3h screen on in the same period.
Also that means I now have three batteries.
Sorry to say but having owned a Motorola Milestone, Galaxy S, Nexus S and now Sensation I can simply say that the battery life on Android is crap in general for heavy users.
My girl has an iPhone 3G and 4, the screen on time is often over 6 hours which I put down to intimate development of software and hardware.
I am choosing flexibility over longevity for now.

It's the kernel that's in the version of the ROM you have.
Flash 3.6.5 XE and it'll fix the problem.
Also having Wifi on and using it for 2 hours straight will drain your battery.

WiFi uses less battery than a data connection, just fyi. WiFi does not cause drain.

Did you calibrate or change radios recently? You could have a defective battery(s) or maybe the kernel is causing excessive drain.

I noticed this issue too when I was using Sense-based ROMs before I switched to a CM7-based rom.
Been off battery for 9 hours and 9 minutes with 77% left - I've never seen battery life this great and I don't think I see myself going back to Sense any time soon for my HTC Sensation 4G.

I was very disapointed with how fast the stock HTC Sensation battery drained even with normal use, just like you.
I took the advise from some here and got the Anker battery from Ebay for 10.00.
The best thing I ever did.
WOW! Did it improve the battery life on the Sensation.
Now I do not have to worry about the battery draining down fast on me.
With the Anker battery, my phone lasts all day and into the night .

Buy an anker battery

i have just recently bought the evo3d battery the only reason i did not buy anker is because for some thick reason i didnt wanted to buy the anker battery beside i bought the legit evo3d battery which works for sensation. i dont want to buy anker battery for time begin because i dont think i need three battery beside yesterday i just installed 3.6.5 and for time being the battery lasted me very good and if the battery give me 12 hours everyday than ill stick with these two batteries

3.6.5 is using battery more effecient than 3.6.4 did thanks to a member who told me to install 3.6.5

Need better Battery life!!! help!!

hey im using leedroid v1.3 and the battery life on my phone is horrendous, i left the house at 11am this morning with 98 percent and after a 10 minute phone call i had 75 percent battery by 12 oclock. do you guys have any tips or things i can flash to get the phone through a day and a half or even 2 days somehow?
also having an issue with the speakerphone, its the lowest volume of any phone i think ive ever owned, ive got to put the phone to my head, so its basically like making a call but using the back as an earpiece. thanks for the help.
I'm having the same problem with my phone, on any rom. According to CurrentWidget, the Ma being used by my phone will not drop below 150, even while idling. I'm starting to believe that my battery is faulty.
Are u guys calibrating the battety?

Download the battery calibration app from the market. Charge to full run the app calibrate.....drain than calibrate again and you should be fine.

Upgraded to v2 and ran the battery calibrator. Phone finally lasts a day. Thanks. Am I supposed to run the calibrator at like 10% or should I let it die and run it after a 100% charge?
Battery calibration + managing screen brightness massively increases battery life. You need root to be able to clear battery stats, right?

I believe the calibration tools want you to use them at 100% charge. I got a chichitec 1900mA/Hr battery, calibrated (i guess it is now) and my phone went for more than 24 hours before hitting the 49% mark. This was with light use (checking email, checking web forums, playing some Angry Birds, and making some phone calls) but still a HUGE difference from the stock battery. Also, I turn off data connection via quick settings when I am at home. I do turn on wifi though while at home. Calibration ought to help out big time, as these phones are reporting a dead battery long before it is really dead.
Also, dont pay attention to the current battery monitor's report for standby current. It isnt accurate.
Matt
That's the one reason I keep going back to the stock setup I just seem to get better battery life out of is than any of the custom ones I've tried. I've only tried a couple. Has anyone found a ROM that gets better battery life than stock?

Maximum screen on time

I have an original sensation and since buying it have struggled to contain battery life as I am a heavy user.
Typically I travel for an hour and a half each way to work. It's an ideal time to catch up on mail, twitter, browsing etc.
I have been looking into the drain on the battery and discovered that;
80% of battery drain is attributed to running the display
32 minutes of the display being on equates to 40% of the battery
Best case, I would only get ~100 minutes screen on time.
From what I have read this is done to the display type in the Sensation. Is this correct?
I have tried switching the brightness way down (15%) and switching background colors to blacks.
Is there any fix for this or have I simply bought the wrong phone?
I nearly went for the S2 but preferred the clarity of the Sensation display...
Sent from my HTC Sensation
You have the same problem as me there isn't much we can do about it. Is a smart phone it will drain battery like mad when used no matter if it's moderate or heavy because if u ure it moderate it still lol my battery very fast
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
The question is I suppose, Does the screen type on the Sensation deliver poorer battery performance than other handsets?
Would I get more 'screen on' time by switching to an S2 or Galaxy Nexus?
I get around 3-3.5 hours screen on time on a heavy use day. That equates to about 10 hours off the charger, so just enough to keep be going til i get home.
I usually just set the brightness to auto, but if I know I'm going to be reading/browsing a lot I turn the brightness down to about 30%
I'm currently running stock rooted because the sense 3.5 roms were too buggy.
No complaints about battery here.
Maybe you could upload a battery usage graph screenshot?
Here are some.....
Cheers
Wow! That is some impressive drain.
Have you got any programs that might be causing the drain? Your phone seems to be awake a lot even when the screen is off.
Try BetterBatteryStats to see what apps are waking your phone and causing drain:

The screen is not AMOLED, its an LCD so black backgrounds are not beneficial, if anything white/light uses less power as the LCD does not have to use power to black out the (always on) backlight.
I'm running Virtuous Sensation rom, OC at 1.5g, been my phone has been off the charger 7÷hours, made 2 long phone calls, been been browsing web and I'm here for around 3 hours now, and my battery is around 60%. I love this rom, fast, stable, and excellent battery life.

Another thing you might try, charge to full, boot into recovery, clear battery stats, discharge completely, and then complete charge with no interruption. This should recalibrate the battery for better life.

On wifi I get 4 hours 30 minutes browsing internet (screen on time)
3g is more like 3 hours 20/30 minutes due to living in Australia where mobile coverage sucks phone has to work hard to hold 1 bar 3g.
Solid gaming and that means no breaks, 2 hours.

Make sure your brightness isn't to high. It will drain extremely fast with high brightness. I keep mine on 0% for inside and will up it up some when I go outside.
I bought the Anker extended battery for $15. Here are a couple screen shots of my usage...
I didnt charge it at all for that entire time. On the graph where it says the battery went up about 5% is from rebooting it.

Sensation XE Battery appauling

Bought the sensation XE a couple of days ago. The only think I keep about is the battery.
I have two HTC batteries and I have been using them simultaneously (taking one out put next in, other goes on charge etc)
I am going through two full charges a day and am on the third battery.
This is crazy, is it me? What am I doing wrong? Might me ICS..?

It usually take a while for the battery to reach it's full capacity. Give it like a week, then judge the battery.

Mind posting a picture of your batt stats? And how many hours of screen time you have. Here are some tips..
1. Use manual brightness. I usually use 10-50% only. The lower your brightness the less power you consume.
2. Disable auto sync. Disable push notifications unless really needed.
3. Disable led lights and vibrations for keyboard and soft keys.
4. Use mobile data only when you need to. If not, turn it off.
5. You can try juicedefender. Works for some, doesn't work for me.
6. Don't use live wallpapers.
7. Run a custom rom and kernel. I'm using virtuous inquisition 4.0.2 with sebastionFM 1.4.1 kernel. It's fast smooth yet easy on the battery.
8. As your battery is still new give it a few charge cycles. It should stabilise within a week or so..
9. Do download betterbatterystats and check on what's hogging your battery. Also check with cpuspy whether your phone goes into deep sleep or not.
With the methods I've mentioned I'm achieving about 20 hours standby with 5 hours of screen time. I consider myself quite a heavy user. If you do your math that's like 15minutes of use per hour.

I get 4:10 hours of screen on time only. Every single time +/- 10 minutes. Charge every 2 days.
95% of 4:10 hours is web browsing, Words with Friends and Draw Something.

My settings:
Wifi, Mobile Data controlled by Easy Battery Saver on Intelligent Mode.
Brightness-> Auto Brightness. Most 50%+ because I work outdoors.
GPS- Off
Gaming-> Only 2D.
Music-> Lots of music.
Web browsing -> Mostly Wifi only because I have Wifi wherever I go.
Calls: 10-12 a day approx.
My iPhone 4 used to last me 3-4 days. The screen on time for that was 7-8 hours. Yeah so the battery life is really appalling. Buying iPhone 5 (6) when it comes.

Also i use Faux 123 kernel with stock voltage and 1.5Ghz OC, Non-Zram (it only drains to me....)... no big deal and i don't see anything wrong with my battery... only one thing...
When i use the phone, and my battery reach for example 38%... then i restart the phone and its starts with 60%... and when i reach 30% again i restart and i see up to 50% of battery on the metter... so wth???!!! also, today my phone turn off when i was trying to get a screenshot of my battery issue to upload it... with 7% of battery left... and today it last for 11.30 hours
i use Insert Coin 2.4 rom Sense 4
can some one please explain me why is this happenin?

This is an HTC problem. I have no clue why, but for some reasons the stats on their phones never report properly after having a custom ROM. I used to have an HTC Desire, then a GSII, now a Sensation. I noticed the stats were always off with my Desire, they were fine with my GSII, fine with a stock One X then with my Sensation I get the some terribly reported battery stats again. It is just something I have gotten used to.
Someone with more technical knowledge can explain better why it does that. But with the Desire it was a known issue which no one knew how to fix. Or the resources to fix it are just missing.

[Q] Sensation battery and overheat problem

When i was using stock HTC sense in my sensation i faced the following problems;
1)Very fast battery drain if i browse the internet or use any applications(battery falls by 1% every 1-2mins)
2)when battery is 100% after just playing for 5-7mins(plants versus zombies 2) the battery falls by 25% to 75% thats a huge drop.
3)And when playing games just within 5-7mins the phone overheats abnormally
4)the battery part is not very hot but the bottom part below the battery slot is very hot(mostly when playing games)
I rooted my phone and im using vipers 3.1.2 rom but the problem still presists
the battery readings are not accurate most of the times for example sometimes when i have use the phone for a long time the battery still remains the same but after a while the battery drops significantly every second.
My question is is this a battery problem or is the motherboard/cpu of the phone causing these problems.
there is no expert in my country where i can get technicians to check the problems so ur advice is highly appreciated.

How old your battery is? Are you using any third party battery like Anker or Mugen?
Battery stats miscalliberation is a common thing and almost all of us face this issue after flashing a custom ROM. I guess you should give some complete charge cycles and it will get back to normal readings.

Mine after 2 years was in such bad shape that the phone kept dying ~5 mins after opening FB, and that is with low brightness, underclocked. Also the battery itself became bigger, instead of being flat it became... how do I put this... chubby I figured it's because of overheating.
Anyway, switched to Anker, it's much much better now.
I am facing overheating problem
I am facing overheating problem on my htc sensation xe. I am running vipers 5 rom with 1.5 GHz (standard frequency for htc sensation xe).
What I have observed is, whenever phone overheats it eats lot of battery. My battery is only about 2-3 months old. Any work around for over heating problem?
