[Q] Infuse and Ford Sync - Samsung Infuse 4G

So, I just got an infuse today, and so far I am loving it. However, I've noticed that when I plug it into my Sync system, it isn't charging. I am able to charge my iPhone, iPods, kids usb mp3 player, and other devices.
Has anyone used the infuse with a sync system yet? If so, what model year car?
Currently trying to use it in a 2009 Focus SES, non-touchscreen version.

Charges fine with my 2010 Fusion Sync system, non touchscreen and USB via port in the storage area between my seat and front passenger.
Try a different USB cable? Do other devices charge with it in your car?

I have a 2010 hyundai sonata and I use the usb connector in the car to charge the phone and it works just fine here.
I am not sure what a sync system is though but the charging is fine.

OK, I figured out the charging thing. For some reason, I have to make sure that it is in USB Storage mode, which means I can't just plug it in and forget it. Not a huge deal, as long as I don't try to plug it in when I am driving (yes, I learned that the hard way and almost went off-road in a Focus).
So my next question is, where does everyone put their music that they want to use with the sync system? Does anyone even use Sync, or do they just play it over BT to the car?
I would rather it go through the USB, as having to turn the volume up or down can cause audio distortion, whereas USB is just reading the file across and no amplification is taking place beforehand.
What software do you use to sync your phone with Music? I've downloaded DoubleTwist and WinAmp, but DT locks up and WinAmp's interface still sucks... (Really, it still seems like it was designed in 1995).

I used Sync once with an iPod. That was before I got the Infuse.
I own a Subaru - I only encounter Sync on rentals, so there's a possibility I might be using it tomorrow. (Business trip)

I use Bluetooth whenever my car actually wants to pair with my phone. I can almost never have the connection established, picks it right up with my HD2, but not my Infuse.... o well. AUX is the way to go. Lol
Sent from Optimus-Prime's Infuse 4G

Optimus-Prime: Actually, I'm reading quite a few people having issues with bluetooth and wifi on the Infuse. It's actually making me reconsider the phone and going with something else.
I have had to turn off BT, turn it back on, then force Sync to look for the phone in order to get it to work in the car the last couple of days. If it continues and an update isn't available in the next few days, I will take it back and get a different model.

Fords software might not suport the infuse yet. It works great with my wifes iphone. Check out syncmyride.com and select your car and it should tell you what phones have been tested

I wish google would come up with software like sync for vehicles. I love sync but its very buggy sometimes. It does not seem to support alot of new devices.

sync's Bluetooth implementation hated my Huawei S7.
And no joy on testing on my trip - got a Chrysler.

Ipod "emulator"?

While I know that Apple has all of their information locked up tighter than Fort Knox, I was wondering if it would be feasible to create an application to "act like" an Ipod with other hardware. IE my head unit in my car that works wonderfully with Ipod but cannot even "see" my Android phones.
If that's not possible at all, is there a way to get my head unit to see my N1 as an actual jump drive (which is supported by the unit)?

I hope I don't get beat up over this, but... "Head Unit"? I can assume you mean a Bluetooth stereo headset possibly?
My Kensington Bluetooth Stereo headset works fine with my nexus... But again, not sure if this is what you are referring to.
I think maybe he is referring to an audio in port that recognizes ipods, but not his nexus one maybe?
Im sure by head unit he means his car's stereo. and If you can get the nexus into USB drive mode your stereo should recognize it.
I am referring to a USB connection to my "car stereo". Not using Bluetooth.
When I am connected to my g/f's iPod, it works so seamlessly it's insane. Shows album art, all things are controlled directly from the head unit ....
I guess looking for an interface to communicate between the head unit and the N1. Would presume it's possible since the interface protocol is in the wild for devs. I just personally don't know a darned thing about it.

What head unit do you have, and how do you like it? (Offtopic, yes, but I'm looking for a new, good head unit for my car that has great iPod functionality. )
Well I have a double din and not sure what you require. I am running the Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD. It really has come a long way with integration. Just wish others would realize there is much more out there than Mac-n-Crap.
try and mount the phones sd card when it is plugd in to the Head Unit
and use bplayer or meridian as music app Works for me
The problem isn't the phone, it's the unit.
I have a Pioneer as well (http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Premi..._6?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1274031647&sr=1-6)
And it's the same ****. Won't recognize my Zune at all through the USB, and it sometimes recognizes the android phone when it's set to USB, but then it grabs every audio file in the phone, which is a bunch of crap i don't want.
But anyway, It's because Pioneer only made it support/look for apple devices. So anything else it just doesn't recognize. On mine the only thing that works perfectly is a USB flash drive. i have an 8GB unit pluged in with all my music and it works perfectly. but try anything else and it rarely works.
And unfortunately, just like you said, you'd need to make the phone look like an ipod and add all that software in, which just isn't possible.
So basically, your gonna have to get it to work by mounting the USB, or using another media player such as the ones jtz100 mentioned.

Going to test out Meridian in a few but I would love to see someone emulate the iPod interface so that our phones will work with any and all "Crapple" devices.

Send phone audio from one phone to another via bluetooth

Anyone know of a fairly easy way to to send all audio from one phone to another phone, via bluetooth?
My reason for asking is that I would like to set my car up to pair with a bluetooth receiver that plugs into the auxiliary port that my car stereo has. My thought was to use to the OG Droid as the receiver. I have a 2008 vehicle and spent over $1,000 on the navigation head unit when I bought it, so I don't really feel like replacing the head unit just for bluetooth. I thought of this idea while I was playing around with the bluetooth settings, and noticed that my computer can receive all the audio from my phone, so why not my old phone? So, I tried it, and alas, only file transfers were accepted between the two phones.
I currently have a non-rooted Thunderbolt, and an OG Droid that was recently flashed back to vanilla froyo because I was going to sell it. I assume this would only be a driver issue on the Droid, as the Droid was also able to send all of its audio to my computer.
Any ideas?

[Q] Do we like this FM Transmitter/charger?

This little adapter is really well-reviewed on Amazon. Satisfied users mention Droid, EVO 4G, Incredible, Nexus One, etc. but no Charge.
Seems reasonable to expect it to work given such widespread Android compatibility but does anyone have firsthand experience?
I have had that one for a while now. It worked great on my D1 and now I use it on my Charge. Streams music and it sounds great. It has a volume control on it also. You can charge your phone at the same time. One of the best buys I have made.
Thanks, mon. I'm off to order now.
Just so I understand, you use the headphone jack for audio, USB to charge.
Rather than playing through the USB alone?
If I had an easy way to connect in my car, I'd go ahead and sub to spotify. This could be it.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Actually I only use the bluetooth connection for sound. That way I can stream music and if I get a call I can hear it over the car speakers. I use the USB to keep the phone charged. I have never used the audio cable. Have you received it yet and if so how do you like it?
I'm thinking of picking this up, I'd probably wanna use a cig splitter since I don't particularly care that the usb port on this is only 650mah. Is it strong enough to run music and nav and keep the phone charged? or recommend a cig splitter so we can use the official cig charger from verizon?
I can't answer that question yet. I should get my car dock today and I haven't used it for nav yet. I have used it to stream music and voice.
Received mine yesterday but haven't had a chance to mess with it. I'm really hoping it charges effectively, I'm getting ready to search and/or post here about how HUGELY I'm disappointed in the Charge's battery life.
let us know hehe, thinking of either this or getting a new head unit for my car with bluetooth built in. Right now I use the aux jack on my radio, but I want to get rid up as much excess cabling as possible. Any fan of cable tidyness would agree hehe.
lol I am a total nutcase....was going to get this accessory but figured...why not just upgrade my head unit to one with bluetooth......and while at it picked up new speakers to replace the stock ones......ARGH, coulda just spent the ~$50 and been done with it instead of the $478 for the new HU, speakers, and install (which is tomorrow ^.^)
Don't follow in my tracks, save your money and get this LOL
Now that is one approach to a problem I am not sure I would have even thought of, lol.
Let's see... spend $50 or 10 times that??????
I can see your dilemma.
ya but spending 10 times as much nets me a much nicer audio systems with integrated awesomeness.....hehe I get it installed in an hour I'll report back.
Anyways to keep this post on target...we need more testers for that fm transmitter! Get on it folk!

where are you getting it installed? im thinking of getting a headunit too but i dont know how to install it and im really bad with cars.
ya, get the professionals on that one...even if it is best buy...at least if they **** up its on them. After using my new stereo for 2 days, I have to say this....nothing beats the aux input cord.....bluetooth streaming is too poor, wicked hissy. still nice to have the bluetooth only for phone calls though.
Funny, I have never had the hissy sound over bluetooth. My streaming with the GOgroove Flexsmart X2 has always sounded as good as the radio and I have the Bose system in my Trailblazer.
thats weird. it may be the bluetooth adapter I have *shrugs* it sounds beauuuutiful through the line out on the car dock into the aux in on my HU, but if I only use it for calls oh well, it works hehehe
I'll chime in to say that bluetooth streaming in a rental Ford was superb. No static or hissing, full Spotify goodness.
I'd take my unit it back, if I were you. Shouldn't be problematic.

ive been using this one from walmart
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Scosche-FM-Transmitter/16652629
its inexpensive and works really well. I bought a few others from bestbuy and they always sucked and had poor sound quality for double the price, i saw this at walmart one day and said "what the hell" and picked it up, i was very surprised at how well it worked. It has a small profile, and even plays mp3s off an SD card if you want, though I have never used that feature. It has a remote as well.
I just bought a 2nd one for my wife, and ive been using mine for about a year now, its rock solid.
highly recommended. Also... its walmart, if it ever breaks just bring it back
It looks like that one from WalMart is a FM Transmitter only. The one we are talking about in this thread is not only a FM Transmitter but also a Bluetooth connector to our Phones so we can hold a conversation and hear it over the vehicles radio system. So it looks to me that it does everything the WalMart one does, except for the memory card slot, and much more.

Samsung infuse USB to car not working

I just purchased a Samsung infuse and for the first time hooking up USB and selecting connect to PC didn't work (had other droids and they all worked fine). I don't have a problem connecting to my PC and.it failed with both stock FW and infused 2.0. my car is the Chevy cruze and just to confirm it's not the USB I hooked up my streak and it worked instantly. Any idea how to fix this?

I am assuming you are taking about interfacing your infuse with your in car stereo system, correct? Not sure if you were maybe referring to simply charging.
I have had the same issue as you, my in car dvd system will recognize damn near anything I plug into it, besides my infuse. It won't even recognize it as a mass storage device. Haven't figured out a work around yet, perhaps someone will come along with a solution.

Samsung Infuse works in car when connected via USB
Hi Guys,
I also got Samsung Infuse recently, and i also had the same problem, mp3 player does not work when connected to car via USB.
Now i found a solution for that problem. Please follow the steps below,
Settings -- > Applicaitons --> USB Settings -- > Development -- Uncheck the Debugging Option
Now switch off your car stereo, connect your phone to the car via USB, and select
'Mass Storage' option when prompted.
Once it is connected, now switch on the car stereo, and it should play the music.
i tried the above steps and playing music in the car via USB.

[Q] How to Play Music via Nexus 5 in Car

I love nexus 5 and google music ! but my car is manufactured by apple fan boys and the bose audio it has only has ipod menus and plays music out of iphone only.
The audio system does support playing music from a usb device but google music doesn't cache the music in a plain root folder for the car music to identity it.
I can get an aux cable but I want to control music off my steering controls and don't want two cables for charging and audio to my phone at the same time, its just not convenient.
How can i resolve this ? Is there an app which gets music from google music and puts it in music folder on the phone directly ? What are my options ? I am sure some other fellows here have been in my position before.
Even if you do put music directly on the device. Almost all car head units do not support the mtp protocol that the nexus uses to read the storage of your phone.
Your first step should be to drop an mp3 into your nexus and check if your car can even read it
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Also try both settings (MTP / PTP). As far as I remember PTP used to handle my Galaxy S2 as two seperated storages (one for internal / one for external). If I remember correctly they both appeared just like USB sticks when I connected it to the PC. The Nexus 5 should then bring up a single storage, since it doesn't have an external storage.
Hope this helps
Another question: Doesn't the device have the ability to stream music via Bluetooth? I use this method in my car and the music controls work great
EDIT: You could also try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer I know, it costs money but you can try it for like 15minutes and if you don't like it, just uninstall it and you'll get your money refunded

you mean when I connect the phone via usb I get options to whether use it as media device or photo transfer ? I have tried both its not working.
The bluetooth only works with phone calls and not with music playing.

I know what you mean but the car is more like 30k and nexus 5 costed around 4 hundred. It worked perfectly with iphone, i would charge, play music, show playlists artists everything and would let me control tracks off my steering. This thing doesn't work at all. Not as a usb not as an iphone no nothing !
The app you mentioned, not sure how would that work considering that the app pulls up media from the usb or hard drive. Here we want to put the media from the device to the car.
Wonder if nexus 5 owners never had a car or what because this should be a very common problem. Why no one ever talked about it here on the forum ?
As far as bluetooth goes I am wondering how old your car is, and what is the make and model?
If the car is a 2012 model or newer then it really should work and if not it is the fault of the manufacturer. If it is older than that I wouldn't expect it to work. You will likely have to upgrade your factory stereo to something newer that supports today's Bluetooth profiles.
If it is a 2013 model I am shocked that it doesn't work, but if so you should have tested this before you bought it
But ya, the USB thing will never work.

It's all gonna be based on your actual stereo unit because I have a Honda Civic that when I plug in an iPhone it charges and syncs my music, it even shows the album artwork. When I plug in my Note 3 or Nexus 5 I don't get any of those options except for charge BUT I am able to stream over bluetooth and it lets me control my music through steering wheel buttons.
Now I have noticed that on my Note 3 it doesn't display the right track information if I play music through Spotify but on my Nexus 5 it will actually show the tracks. I found that very interesting.
So basically, your stereo unit was made strictly for iPhone support.

Yep its 2011 nissan altima having bose audio system. So I believe I am out of luck. Basically you select a car on basis of several other factors. Phone connectivity wouldve been the last thing I would notice and in those days I was connecting iphone 4 without a problem.
Its more of a problem of phone manufacturer to make sure that it is considered as a usb music player when connected to a device.

Yes have been checking this one too. Lets see if the belkin works, otherwise will give this one a try.
I feel for you. Car stereos have been very Apple centric for a long time and I don't know why. I guess it stems from almost everyone owning an iPod back in the day. Things are finally starting to change though, thankfully. I'm seeing more an more stock and aftermarket head units specifically mention Android support.

Both receiving Bluetooth, One cabled to AUX input in my car, sounds great, and the other in an old work truck via FM transmitter (stereo sounds great, but too old for AUX or bluetooth). It was the very first 'good' experience I've had with an FM transmitter, most are complete garbage. Cheers!
