Is AVRCP (controlling the infuse with the car's audio controls) supported on the Infuse? So far, using BT, I have to use the phone itself to select songs, skip, etc.
I had an iPhone before this, and it at least allowed me to skip, if nothing else. I thought Android would do better than that.
**on another note, if I plug the Infuse to the USB port on the car, it prompts for USB storage mode, and the car doesn't seem to be able to handle that. (2011 Hyundai Sonata)
I have a fairly new Pioneer head unit and it only allows control over Bluetooth with the phone itself. Honestly, I have yet to plug it in via Usb; but I suspect the same thing. I also have an iPhone 4 that when plugged in can be controlled from the unit as well as the phone via Usb, but that is really because iPod functionality was built in since iPod has been around much longer than iPhones or Android. I also was one of those people who thought remotes for car stereos that were 1-2 feet away was idiotic, but now use mine like crazy, so I just think of the phone as my new remote.

dont count on this with android for a while unless it is the reciever playing the songs. there is audio out throug usb or you can mount the sdcard as storage. unfortunately not all headunits will see storage on an android phone. i dont know if there is a universal standard for player controls, i think there is such a thing for phone calls but for audio players you will likely need to wait for proprietary software and accessory support. this is basically where the iphone/ipods rule. androidis too fractured and unless google comes up with some standards to follow and the radio manufacturers catch on it might not happen at all
a couple weeks ago, i was stupid and got in a very minor accident while trying to change songs on my sensation. even though it was minor, the people i hit decided to fake injuries. since then have refrained from using my phone while moving to change songs.
so i just remembered that i was looking for a solution to my problem. i use aux in on my car stereo and know they sell remote adapters like this. but i wanted to take it a step further and see if there was a wireless remote, something with big buttons. heres a diagram.
i forgot to add i was hoping for a remote that would clip onto the steering wheel.
and if no such thing exists, can anyone tell my if the griffin remote works for our phone.
after looking around i found this. but of course its for apple products. and its for ipod mini, soo it may be outdated. i just wanted to give an example so people can understand me better. if this product is compatible with our phone i would buy it in a second.
i was thinking about getting something like this. my car doesnt have bluetooth, so i connect via aux input, but this would give me bluetooth and i wouldnt have to plug my phone into anything when i get in the car. also has the remote for steering wheel.

Hello everyone. I bought a Digital Innovations universal android speaker dock. It was highly recommended by a friend and has great reviews online. When I got it the connection to my One X was spotty at best. When I would plug in the 3.5mm jack into my phone, sometimes my phone would recognize that a headphone cable was plugged in and other times it would not. I thought maybe it was the dock itself so I had it replaced. I got the new one today it does the same thing, except that I can not get the phone to recognize that the jack is plugged in at all.
I decided that I would try other devices. I plugged in an MP3 player, and it worked fine. I tried a second MP3 player and that worked too. Finally I tried an iPhone and that too worked. I cant figure out why my One X will not recognize that a headphone cable has been plugged in. If I use standard headphones the phone recognizes them immediately. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening and what I can do about it?

Hi there, I'm posting from Sonr, we designed the dock you are using. This is the first time I've seen that problem. The closest I've seen was with a Sony Ericson phone that had a non standard wiring pattern on the plug, but based on what you are saying, standard headphones work. Now, just to clarify, when you say headphones, you mean like mp3 player headphones, not a phone headset, the distinction being that the headset has a built in mic. Also, when you say "standard headphones" do you mean ones that came with the phone or ones that came from another vendor (and not specifically designed for the one X).
As you can probably tell, I'm trying to isolate if the headphone jack configuration is non standard physically (like the Sony Ericson phone) or if the issue is something else.
Thanks for the response. I've now used three different types of headphones/headsets. Two were standard headphones and one was a phone headset. All three worked fine on my HTC One X.
I did find work around to get the dock to worl, but it will not work with the Sonr app. The solution was to go and buy a 3.5mm stereo plug extension. I connect the dock to that and the other end to my phone. I can now play audio from my phone through the dock, but the Sonr app will not find my phone. It's a start and I'm getting closer but I would love to be able to use the remote and built in buttons.

Ugh. I'm really sorry we didn't catch this in testing. We have plenty of other HTC phones, but not this one. It sounds like we need to acquire one. Based on what you're saying, this phone has another non standard headphone configuration, and we need an adapter for it. I love nexus 5 and google music ! but my car is manufactured by apple fan boys and the bose audio it has only has ipod menus and plays music out of iphone only.
The audio system does support playing music from a usb device but google music doesn't cache the music in a plain root folder for the car music to identity it.
I can get an aux cable but I want to control music off my steering controls and don't want two cables for charging and audio to my phone at the same time, its just not convenient.
How can i resolve this ? Is there an app which gets music from google music and puts it in music folder on the phone directly ? What are my options ? I am sure some other fellows here have been in my position before.
Even if you do put music directly on the device. Almost all car head units do not support the mtp protocol that the nexus uses to read the storage of your phone.
Your first step should be to drop an mp3 into your nexus and check if your car can even read it

Also try both settings (MTP / PTP). As far as I remember PTP used to handle my Galaxy S2 as two seperated storages (one for internal / one for external). If I remember correctly they both appeared just like USB sticks when I connected it to the PC. The Nexus 5 should then bring up a single storage, since it doesn't have an external storage.

You were so right. I placed mp3 directly in the Music folder it still doesn't play it.

you mean when I connect the phone via usb I get options to whether use it as media device or photo transfer ? I have tried both its not working.
The bluetooth only works with phone calls and not with music playing.
I may sound funny but aren't there any apps or even hardware device which can get connected to nexus 5 and makes car system consider it as an iphone ?

I think that it is complete crap that they manufactured the stock headunits in cars to be more compatible with iPhone than Android. Not everyone has an iPhone, believe it or not.

It doesn't work. The car bluetooth only take phone calls and doesn't support music playback.
If theres a kit of some sort.. anything ! I'll get it but I haven't been able to play music while driving for days now. Shouldve got iphone 5s instead, what a shame !

I know what you mean but the car is more like 30k and nexus 5 costed around 4 hundred. It worked perfectly with iphone, i would charge, play music, show playlists artists everything and would let me control tracks off my steering. This thing doesn't work at all. Not as a usb not as an iphone no nothing !
The app you mentioned, not sure how would that work considering that the app pulls up media from the usb or hard drive. Here we want to put the media from the device to the car.

As far as bluetooth goes I am wondering how old your car is, and what is the make and model?
If the car is a 2012 model or newer then it really should work and if not it is the fault of the manufacturer. If it is older than that I wouldn't expect it to work. You will likely have to upgrade your factory stereo to something newer that supports today's Bluetooth profiles.
If it is a 2013 model I am shocked that it doesn't work, but if so you should have tested this before you bought it

I have a Nexus 5, and, I have a car. I use an app called utter! for hands-free operation of my phone while driving. I highly recommend it.
Since your car came with iPhone technology, however, I suggest that you get a used iPhone just for use in the car.

It's all gonna be based on your actual stereo unit because I have a Honda Civic that when I plug in an iPhone it charges and syncs my music, it even shows the album artwork. When I plug in my Note 3 or Nexus 5 I don't get any of those options except for charge BUT I am able to stream over bluetooth and it lets me control my music through steering wheel buttons.
Now I have noticed that on my Note 3 it doesn't display the right track information if I play music through Spotify but on my Nexus 5 it will actually show the tracks. I found that very interesting.
So basically, your stereo unit was made strictly for iPhone support.

Yep its 2011 nissan altima having bose audio system. So I believe I am out of luck. Basically you select a car on basis of several other factors. Phone connectivity wouldve been the last thing I would notice and in those days I was connecting iphone 4 without a problem.
Its more of a problem of phone manufacturer to make sure that it is considered as a usb music player when connected to a device.

USB mass storage was so useful. I hate mtp. So I had to use bluetooth adapter and I love it. I got this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004CLYJ2I/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1388953809&sr=8-3&pi=SY200_QL40 the price went up. When I got it, it was only 30+.

I have a 2010 Equinox and use this adapter. It works great for me as the audio in and a USB port are right next to each other in my arm rest. So I can basically have it charging all the time. Plus I never take it out so I mounted it with some double sided tape. The sound quality is great too.

ordered it not more than 10 seconds ago before you recommended. Infact it didn't mention anywhere nexus 5 so i just took a leap of faith. Glad its compatible with Nexus 5.

I feel for you. Car stereos have been very Apple centric for a long time and I don't know why. I guess it stems from almost everyone owning an iPod back in the day. Things are finally starting to change though, thankfully. I'm seeing more an more stock and aftermarket head units specifically mention Android support.

Can the S6 be played through my car radio via USB? I don't have Bluetooth (or 3.5 mm) in my car and this is one of the reasons I've thought about switching to an iphone. I know this isn't possible with my Nexus 4 but I was wondering if Samsung has done anything about this.

I'm not 100% certain but I believe it still isn't possible even with the S6 to play music via a USB cable in your car. I'm not sure if you have a cassette slot in your car but you can get a cheap adapter for your cassette slot which gives you an aux input. They can be found quite cheap on amazon, maybe $15 or so.

Doesn't Samsung support USB mass storage? It should work
Sadly, a lot of the infotainment systems (that have USB ports) on cars are really optimized for iOS and not for Android.
eg. Toyota, Hyundai, KIA, VW, Benz, and many more. The systems on those brands usually only work with Android via 3.5mm audio jack or through Bluetooth.
Using a cassette adapter has OK sound quality, but it's not that great.
@ OP: It's unlikely that a Galaxy S6 will play its media through USB for your car.
This is Samsung's flagship android device??
This is a major disappointment.
With my S3 I was able to play music on my car's sound system via the USB cable but apparently this is impossible with the S6.
Another major downer is the inability to add additional storage.
