Fix Permission - Verizon Droid Charge

I've been looking around for this answer and probably missed it somewhere I'm sure. Can we fix permissions somehow on this phone? I've tried through terminal. Tried using cwr through imnuts otb kernel but cwr freezes. It gives the memory choices in cwr. I've tried everyone and cwr just freezes. Can somebody help me out here? I think a fix permissions might help the occasional acore force close I'm getting. Thanks.

Sorry but what do you mean fix permission? I'd like to help but I don't really know what you mean.

I want to run the fix permissions script which can usually be done through ClockworkMod or through Terminal Emulator. Running this script usually fixed most force close issues. I don't know how to run it with the ClockworkMod recovery I have installed. It appears broken. Is there an alternative method or am I doing something wrong?

I'm not sure thats a fix anymore like it was with the Fassy, it would be working in CWM otherwise and on top of that I've never seen it suggested in any rom threads... I could be wrong though

I looked in GummyCharge and the debloated/deodexed EE4 ROMs and neither contain the fix permissions or battery stats script which would be necessary to perform either action in terminal emulator. So that option is out. Don't know if the script has to be present in the ROM in order for it to work in CWM or if it is included in CWM.

[Q] No root after flashing PBJT novodoo 0807

I flashed the latest PBJT 0807 novodoo kernel on a fresh EE4 phone using CWM 0730.
When the phone boots I hear the droid boot noise, but the screen is black with no logo.
In about this phone the kernel shows as:
2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
However when trying to run applications that need root or trying SU in the terminal I says I do not have root. Wifi tether says "Not root"
I have tried wiping the cache from CWM and rebooting and still have the same problem. Can anyone help or let me know if I need to provide more information?
Reflash with a full Odin of a custom rom. Don't stay stock. Eclipse, GummyCharged, or Humble.
Sent from my Droid Charge running GummyFroyo 1.9.1
I would really like to stay stock with a novoodoo kernel. Should the 0807 kernel be giving me root access, I thought it should?
Here is the dump of root checker, I've tried installing the super user app from the marketplace but still no go.
Root Access is not properly configured or was not granted.
Superuser.apk - com.noshufou.android.su - is NOT installed!
The application Superuser is recommended as it provides basic security and is available for free in the Android Market
The adb binary is set to default shell user access as root
Standard su binary location: ls -l /system/bin/su:
/system/bin/su: No such file or directory
Standard su binary location: ls -l /system/xbin/su:
/system/xbin/su: No such file or directory
Alternate su binary location: ls -l /sbin/su:
/sbin/su: No such file or directory
SU binary not found or not operating properly
Have you tried reflashing with Odin? Trust me, once you flash a custom rom you wont ever go back to stock.
Sent from my Droid Charge running GummyFroyo 1.9.1
When you say have you tried reflashing with odin do you mean with a custom rom or do you mean to reflash cwm and try to update the kernel again? I've run custom roms before but would prefer to run stock.
Am I mistaken in my thinking that the pbjt kernel alone should have given me root?
He means a full odin package which would give you cwm/kernel/ROM all in one. I love Eclipse but I understand if you just want a stock phone with root so just try reflashing CWM in Odin and reflashing your kernel in CWM, that should do it. If not, redownload your kernel and CWM then try again, you might have got a bad download. Also, when you're flashing make sure you use the stock cable that came with the Charge.
Thanks blarrick I'll give that a shot. Does the lack of a logo screen indicate that something went wrong? Also does flashing the new kernel place the su binary in the system bin?

I had problems with trying to go back to stock using voodoo kernels (the disable didn't work properly). I've gotten stuck with a soft bricked phone even after following instructions with the .pit and full image.
I felt that I would have less chance of doing that again if I didn't use a voodoo kernel and didn't have to worry about the fs conversion.

He probably just wants a stock Droid Charge that can use root apps like wireless tether and stuff.
Odd that it's still not working, you might have to do a full factory reset but don't try it yet, keep looking for answers i just think it's weird that you aren't getting a bootup animation.
Yeah the whole no boot animation is the concerning thing, it's also weird that it shows the expected imnuts kernel. If flashing the no voodoo doesn't work properly (no boot animation) I'm concerned trying something else entirely might conflate the problem.

I think that going to the 0710 novoodoo may be where you need to go if you don't want to go to voodoo. I used it when I first rooted and had no root issues. The 0730 novoodoo had root issues from my experience and what some others have reported.
If you use supercurio's Voodoo Control app, you can reliably disable Voodoo to prep for flashing a ROM.

awesome thanx for figuring it before i had to try a thousand combonations...
This is awesome!
How long should it stay at Samsung after doing all of the steps? I did all of the steps. Samsung flashed several times. Now its just staying at Samsung. Been this way for a couple of minutes.
sdcard issues
ok, first of all I did this and everything worked fine.
Upon first reboot, I think it went 4 or 5 times through the samsung bootloop and then loaded the rom (i wasn't watching it fastidiously).
Upon loading the rom and loading my apps from titanium backup, I finally hit the issue of not being able to move apps to the sd card; it just comes up with "failed to move application". I've rebooted just to make sure things weren't off from first boot. It's still not letting me move any apps to sd (even if allowed in the os).
Any ideas on what to try next?
I'm still at Samsung logo. Don't think its going to load the Rom. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Following the steps. This is the second time I've tried this.
NM, figured it all out.
Going to give it a shot shortly.
This failed to work 3 times. Going back to RFS Gummy.

From what I have read over at Rootzwiki, that seems to be a problem exclusive to Imnuts' hacked kernel (possibly, he posted that he is looking into it as some users used his kernel and didn't have this problem). This process uses another kernel.
I was waiting for more users to give reports back, but I might just give this one a go.

I executed this method using Imnuts kernel and kept root (Thankfully). However I looked at the post to confirm EXT4, and my Terminal Emulator doesn't match the one posted at all. Why? I rarely use it, and have only installed it a few times but don't usually keep it installed.
Honestly it's not necessary, but does let you easily install a custom recovery in some situations. For an S-OFF device there are much easier and more convenient ways to do so.
For the first few months we had the device there was no official recovery and ROM Manager was dangerous to use (not so anymore)

Press "flash recovery" and grant Superuser permissions. Not that hard.
Delivered via candygram for Mr. Mongo.
Haha I didn't realize I was so far out of the loop! With my phones, I root to get access to system folders, system apps, and to run adfree. I don't flash ROMs at all and always keep stock ROM. Not only that - but i've noticed on the stock ROM every time I plug my phone into a computer without rebooting first it locks up and restarts - I have yet to have this happen on my ROM or any of the others I used before that.
Once you root the stock ROM, it just doesn't seem to work as well, and I had the restart issue before root was available for us with this device. At first I thought it was my computer doing it, but now with an older desktop in service it happens on that too, and other random computers I plug into that my friends own too...I dunno.
There is a lot to be said for running a custom ROM instead of the stock one, beyond all the little fixes and enhancements they bring.
...but, that's why we all work together here to constantly bring better software with more support for these devices all over XDA.

When is the last time you cleared cache and dalvik-cache? That might help with some of your issues.
I wrote a flashable-zip package that will do just that if you don't want to do it manually, it does a wipe (not format) so is compatible with all 3 clockworkmod recoveries we have available, since 4.0.0.8 and 4.0.0.9 don't implement the format command correctly.
Blue6IX said:
Third one is: Blue6IX_C01_Wipe.zip

This one will wipe the /cache partition and also wipe dalvik-cache. Use this one if you are having problems with specific apps, especially when changing to a different version of an already installed app.

Either manually doing it or flashing my script might help with your issues, or might have no effect.
The next time you boot after doing so the machine will have to rebuild both cache and dalvik-cache, so it will take a little longer to boot that first time and after it's done and has sat for 5 minutes or so you should reboot the machine again before using it, just to get everything worked out right.
Hope it helps!

[VIDEO] FP5 Update Zip + Rooting Stock

I felt this warranted its own thread, and is pertinent to development. So here's to my first thread in the development section!
As you know, the Charge is getting an update to its Gingerbread stock ROM, titled FP5.
I was one of the lucky ones to get it early, so I pulled it out of cache and uploaded it to Dropbox.
So here it is:
http://db.tt/feigCZuH
If you want to try it:
You need to be fully stock before you can use this. This includes being on RFS. Then download, rename to update.zip, place on root of SD, and flash on the stock recovery.
To Root (assuming starting at stock FP5):
Download the CWM flashable root zip, found at http://androidsu.com/superuser/ (its rude of me to hotlink it). Download the whole package for ARM, not just binary (get 3.0.7-efghi-signed). Put it on your SD card.
NOTE: Most of us Charge users have found that SuperSU (Chainfire's replacement for Superuser) is much more stable on this device. I personally recommend SuperSU, but if you want to keep using superuser, it's your call. Installation instructions will be the same, just Google SuperSU and download the zip rather than Superuser.
Then, get the CWM recovery, and flash it via Odin. Uncheck "auto reboot". Unplug your device and boot to CWM, mount /system, then flash the SU zip (I would wipe cache and dalvik just to be safe).
Your device will boot and be rooted, however the CWM recovery will be overwritten. Get root explorer and search for "install-recovery.sh" (in /system/etc) Change permissions, delete, rename, or otherwise maim the script.
Finally, reflash CWM in Odin. Your device will boot and be rooted, with CWM Recovery, with in the stock FP5 ROM. Feel free to debloat to your pleasing.
You want a video tutorial? You're hard to please.
http://youtu.be/DXSmONvpkSQ
the introduction is VERY off sync. Please don't turn the volume up and scare the crap out of yourself. Sorry, I can't make it available on mobile, something about copyright infringement.
I'll be making an Odin next week, since a user requested it. Just have to wait until I get back from vacation... EDIT: Odins are already available. None from me.

OK, so first off thanks kvswim for getting this out there so fast
Secondly, I'm out and about for a wee bit, but once I'm back at my computer (mid next week) I'll get to work. I'm not sure how long it'll take, but I always assume it'll take a while.
I would also like to put out a request. The last update I did I went through and updated every theme in tweaktools along the way. That took a LONG time, so I was wondering if there were any interested in assisting the theme update process. This will obviously not be relevant until I have the base all finished up, but if you feel you have some of the necessary know-how and are interested feel free to PM me. Most of the themes were made by folks that no longer have the device, which is why I updated everything last time. If I get a few takers I'll make a thread to keep things all organized as far as who is doing what, that way proper credit can be given to those that lend a hand.
Also, no worries if there is no interest/time to help. I have no issue doing it, it'll just take a bit longer.
Carry on.
I can probably make an Odin of this next week if anyone wants it.
Also dwith, I can't help you at all with the themes, I would need to walk through it at least once first. Never taken apart a theme.

There's a certain file that checks if your recovery "needs" to be overwritten by stock, and all you need to do is change permissions on that file. For the life of me I can't remember what it is though.

For some reason, fixing permissions never worked in any safestrap I tried for the atrix 2. Maybe it's an inherent bug, but it would always just say finished immediately after choosing fix permissions....
