[HOW-TO] Fix Your Laggy Boot Animation - Verizon Droid Charge

edit: I made this post literally hours before IMNUTS posted his new kernal, with that new kernel you actually CAN change your boot animation. This method still fixes your laggy boot animation though. As always, if you found this post at all helpful just click the thanks button!
In case you're wondering, it's not the ROM or even Voodoo causing the boot animation to become so choppy, it's the kernel. Check IMNUTS' post on his PBJ kernels and you'll see it's a known bug and he's working hard to fix it.
So anyway, to fix your boot animation just follow the guide below. It's a very simple process so don't worry :]
1) Go to the Android Market and download a boot animation changer. I would recommend 'Boot Animation Changer LITE'. It's free and incredibly simple to use.
2) Next, open BAC Lite that we just downloaded and select 'Change Animation'.
3) Finally, choose any of the boot animations and hit the 'Download and Change' button.
That's it!

Dude that freaking worked! I had tried to change my boot animation before, but I never noticed it actually fixed the choppiness! Thanx man!!!

Glad to help!

made it a little better, mine is still a tad bit laggy and the "DROID" voice sounds funny... but its noticably better thanks for the info

No problem I noticed it wasn't flawless and still just slightly slow but the stock animation wasn't fast either, the stock seemed like it was running at 6-10fps

Much better thanks!
Eclipse 1.3
Edit: According to Kejar on twitter we have custom boot animation for the CHARGE now!

Can't wait for that release

Didn't work for me. :\

My boot animation was full 480 x 800. I downloaded the R2D2 animation as a test and it runs MUCH better than mine.....SOOOO I will reduce the height and width of my images to the smaller height and width of the R2D2 and see if that works.
Of course the desc coding stays at 480 x 800. I guess it's easier on the system.

I would recommend just upgrading to the 7/30 pbj kernel. It's a simple flash in clockwork, allows you to actually change the boot animation and fix the lag.

Ok....that's what I have. Is there a setting to fix the lag?

there is no fix for the choppy stock droid eye boot animation, even on imnuts' new kernel... what you can do is put your own in place of it or download 'boot animation changer' from the market which when used will kinda even out the stock one
blazing through on my VZ Droid Charge 4G

I would like to know how or what the BAC app does to smooth out the stock boot animation?

I'm not sure at all, all I know is it fixes those choppy animations. It still runs a little slow but the stock boot animation ran just as slow.

Sadly it didn't work for me.

You sure you followed the directions correctly? If so, what is your current setup? kernel/ROM mainly.

CRT Off Animation

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this. But I was hoping someone could make this into a zip that we can flash in CWM. I was just looking for the off animation when you lock the screen. Like on the Nexus S. I'm holding off for GB till the bugs get taken care of so this would be for Froyo.
I'm running GummyCharged and PBJ Kernel.
Thanks in advance.
Hi if your unsure where to put a topic then just put it in general. Second there really is no way for screen off animations and such without gingerbread. Someone else may know how but I haven't seen it

Kind of what I figured. Thanks for the quick reply.

Warning: Miui fans

If u are currently using the miui rom for the MT. Please post errors for other miui users in our MT users.
I have currently encountered a boot problem with the theme "black ice"
The theme is great and looks fairly like ics 4.0. Remember after you download this theme to uncheck the boot screen. Then hit apply.
The boot animation would take from a long wait to not loading even my phone. So I had to fish around for my lock button. I even reinstalled miui without a wipe to gain access to my home screen.
So watch out guys for errors and please post anything you may find.

I had the same deal. Also, the ICS for MIUI by db totally borks the not bar on my end - would like to know if I got a bad download or if that theme is just not gonna cut it on our brand of MIUI
I noticed this too Haha! I love the theme but the boot animation messes it up
So I use alot of themes. And I will say don't use any boot animations for any theme. Lol the outcome isn't very awesome
Sent from my Motorola Triumph using xda premium
Black Ice theme will work fine on the MT running MIUI, just disable the boot animation.
black ice also disables wallpaper scroll
This happened to me as well. Mainly with Black Ice.
I found a way to work around it just enough to get to the lock screen by plugging in the charger.
Also seems like setting a boot sound might cause problems too.

Motorola Droid Bootanimation Medley

Hello everyone
I really like bootanimations from Verizon Droid line, and the fact, that all of them are unique and really cool. But, I think it's kind of sad to have cool animation for a 10-20 seconds and then just loop... So, I decided to make some medley. Picked up 3 best droid animations:
1) Droid 3;
2) Droid Bionic;
3) Droid RAZR;
And put them together, reverse them, made transitions... You can watch my preview to see what I'm talking about. The animation is pretty long (about 1 minute), so if you boot quicker, you may not see all the animation. I've made it for Supercharged 5.2 (big thanks to lfaber06 for this great rom) and it fits this rom perfectly. Works great on Lithium too (I mean, duration, nice work JRW 28).
Also, video has no sound, but the animation itself has.
So, what you have to do:
Option number one
- Download Droid_Medley.zip and rename it to bootanimation.zip
- Download Droid, Bionic and RAZR sounds.
- Put them all to /system/media (rename or replace existing bootanimation.zip).
- Reboot
Option number two
- Download Droid_Medley2.zip and rename it to bootanimation.zip
- Download Droid Medley.ogg
- Put them all to /system/media (rename or replace existing bootanimation.zip).
- Reboot
The animations doesn't differ (except of the script). But the sound does. Number one - three stock sounds for the animations. Number two - hellyeah epic and creepy instrumental by swedish SID-Metal band Machinae Supremacy (track name is Insectoid, from Jets'n'Guns game), I think it fits PERFECTLY.. Animation is pretty heavy (about 24mb).
Enjoy and don't forget to click thanks if you like

I gotta say - previously I've always been waiting phone's boot like "man, how long is it going to be?". With this animation it's interesting every time Just because it's long and animation varies.

Nice work, I tried the Option 2, and when i went to reboot my phone, while holding the power key the phone rebooted itself without giving me any option (like shut down, flight mode etc), this happened all the time. I am on Lithium, time to restore !
Edit 1: I restored from Sonya ROM to Lithium and used ur MOD, and after facing the issue, restored Lithium again, seems the issue is with the ROM itself
That's really strange, because I've tried it on Lithium.
You sure not flashing it, just replacing the files?

Looks sweet I got to do a mortal combat to fit my boot animation.....
currently just using the RAZR bootanimation on my Atrix 2 but ill try this one out
This is probably late, but this medley is absolutely amazing! Like you said, I am actually looking forward to rebooting my phone now lol. This is awesome thanks! I haven't tried the music though, since I'm not sure I need sound every time I start the phone, and it works fine without.
hi Darth_Reals - nice seeing slavic fellow over here on the forum - warmest greetings from sunny Kishinev over to Moscow and a quick question - do you happen to still have these bootanimation files? Unfortunately all the links in the header navigate to inexisting dropbox pages. Would really appreciate if you upload anew! Many thanks in advance!

Try placing bootanimation.ogg file into system/media/audio/notification/
This is what has finally worked for me on Motorola Photon running rooted stock 2.3.4

Bro the problem is not that ive tried all those things ive put it in every folder LOL
Its that the JB ROM's don't boot it with sound only the ICS based ones support it.....
So its something else that needs to be figured out here

Boot animation with sound

How do I put music on a bootanimation? When I boot using miui revenge, it plays a noise, but I wanna change it
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
on BML ROMs you just need to replace :
system\etc\PowerOn.wav
to change the boot sound.
I suppose it's the same with MTD ROMs.
and if you wish to change bootanimation (system\media\bootanimation.zip)
you just need a set of images (PNG/JPG), a batch script and have them compressed "STORAGE" method.
Take a sample and change it yourself.
Let me know if you need any help.
Two questions, how do I replace it, what do I replace it with. I wanna put party of a song, but do I need to change how long the song is?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
well if you put the whole song it'll play the whole song. I say you download and use audacity. It's free, google it.
Open the song in audacity, and trim it. Export it as wav then use aroma filemanager to push it to where itzik2sh told you to put the wav file.
I'm not gonna teach you how to do the audacity things. You'll remember better if you google it and read into how to do it. It's not that hard.
For miui it's bootaudio.mp3 its in /system/media/
sent from my batcave
If you go to customize in the miui theme manager you can select any sound you want it will easily import files you have in your sdcard.just go to boot sound then press menu and select import.

No. That is not easily changed by the user like boot sounds and animations. Even if you modified the process it would restart when the boot animation was triggered.
No you can't, they logo is part of the bootloader. It won't access the audio until the boot animation starts

The quality of jpgs uses, the actual boot process itself and other things have effect on the boot animation. A phone that has little stuff to start will be smoother than a phone that has tons of scripts that need to run during boot.
I see, so there's nothing i can do to make it faster
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
I cant honestly say no. But typically optimizing the boot process is so it doesnt lag the boot animation is not a priority. Im sure somebody will chime in if they know how to make it smoother.
We can always make the boot process do less things at a time so that you get a smooth boot animation making your phone take 90 seconds to start or you can have a laggy boot animation and have your phone boot in 20 seconds
Sent from my SGH-T959V
Try increasing the speed of the photos in the bootanimation.zip

Yeah that was the only thing I noticed as well. I asked in the original thread about it and his response was that the context pop ups have different animations (i.e. long pressing a conversation in messaging)
Thanks!
Animations are supposed to be like in this video after you flash my .zip:
It's completely different if you compare it with AOSP ICS. A bit similar with GB. Since Samsung is a fan of GB, it is similar

This is not the OTA boot animation, this is for the window transitions from JB. I didn't notice much of a difference but perhaps others have?

Nope, the transitions are supposed to be different. Even tried the zip from the note section, nothing.
Could this possibly be why? http://rootzwiki.com/topic/31658-vrtheme-zips-not-working-with-twrp-recovery/
Or is the zips just not formatted right for us? I can't figure out how I would try and push this update with root explorer.... Any ideas?
EDIT:
Tried to merge the framework this framework with the one I pull from the latest CM9 nightly, using Framework Flasher but I can't compile it, it fails with lost or error.
I took the animation files from cm10 and used the universal flasher to try and put them in cm9. The framework for ics has like 83 animation inputs, but there were many more than that in jb.
The results were pretty odd, I had the basic animations working (new window blows out from the center) but the app switching animations (squishy in and out of top and bottom) did not work. The strange part was the pop up menus, like power button options. They would slowly expand like a balloon blowing up. Very slowly.
My point is I don't think the ics framework is capable of handling all of the jb animations.
sent from my part of the problem
Why does it work for everyone else then? Best example is the note. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1758585
I have tried the font and it works mostly but I've lost text altogether on a few things, one being the names of the people I'm getting text's from.
I thought our skyrocket was very close to the note..?
