Dual booting is having 2 flavors of android on phone and booting which ever you like just by restarting phone. Kernel supports gingerbread and froyo for now. Flash gingerbread in ROM1 and froyo in ROM2. Do not flash froyo in ROM1 and ginger in ROM2. To boot ROM1 turn on phone and press volume up key and to boot second rom restart phone and press volume down key. If you don't press any key in 15 seconds cm7 will boot by default.
To install Dual Boot Kernel follow 2 steps. Partition sdcard and flash dual boot kernel.
1. Partition SDCARD:
Format SDCARD exactly like this. For example if you have 2GB sdcard then make 1GB FAT + 400MB EXT2 + 400MB EXT2 + 200MB SWAP. You can choose what ever size you want but make 4 partitions.
Partition 1: Primary FAT32 ( For Photos, Music and Videos)
Partition 2: Primary EXT2 ( For ROM1 data )
Partition 3: Primary EXT2 ( For ROM2 data )
Partition 4: Primary LINUX-SWAP ( For swap and compcache )
2. Flashing Dual Boot Kernel:
1. Download Dual Boot Kernel and update.zip (cm7 alpha4 and indroid5)
2. Flash Dual Boot Kernel
3. Hold power key and turn off phone
4. start recovery mode (volume middle + Home + Power ) and press volume up key
- Format /system and /data
- Install cmalpha4_update.zip
- Reboot
5. Press volume up key and phone will boot cm7 alpha4
6. Reboot to recovery mode and press volume down key
- Format /system and /data
- Install indorid5_update.zip
- Reboot
7. Press volume down key and phone will boot indroid 5

VERY FIRST AreaRom RELEASE for the ZTE-Z990 Phones!
THE AREAROM way to take your Z990 from Box-fresh to rooted n' rockin!
EASY 2 file method. 5 minutes, and your phone will be rooted, have a AreaRom Branded CWM installed, and latest 'under the hood' improvements.
ROM Features:
Based on latest GB release
Rooted! No need for adb or any other procedure
APN for StraightTalk added to standard AT&T APNs (May need to add your own APN for your data to work. Google is your friend)
'Big Data' standard (/data is as big as your sd-ext partition on your sdcard, if you choose to partition it. If not, will still work)
ext4 and swap file system supported in ROM and kernel (kernel already in ROM)
PERMANENT AreaRom made CWM 5 Recovery automatically installed for you
De-odexed ROM (programs load faster)
Root Browser Lite already installed
Quick Boot already installed
ICS Camera installed
Many other features!
Works with or without partitioning your sdcard. (If you DO partition, though, your /data partition will be as large as the sd-ext you create)
Note: CWM limits restore to 2GB..But, 2GB is PLENTY of room
NOTE: If you use a sd-ext partition, DO NOT USE LINK2SD OR ANY APP TO MOVE PROGRAMS! It already moves them...
IF your sdcard fails, or you remove the sdcard, you will lose all programs and everything stored in /data
=========================================
STEP BY STEP INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
Download both files below. Preferred way is via computer, then copy files to the sdcard (NOT in a folder)
Rename AreaRom-cwm-update.zip to just "update.zip".
Boot your phone into Recovery.
Select "Flash update.zip" or, if some Merits, select "Factory restore" option (or something close to it), and press the BACK button
When the temporary CWM comes up, select "wipe data/factory reset", press HOME
Select "install zip from sdcard", and press HOME
Select "choose zip from sdcard", press HOME
Select "AreaRom-Z990-2.2.0.zip", press HOME
When done flashing, select "Advanced", then "Reboot Recovery", press HOME
When CWM reboots, you can either "Reboot system now", or, you can partition the sdcard.
To partition, select "advanced" (NOTE: Partitioning erases all data on SDCARD...Make backups)
Select "Partition Sdcard"
Select any size you want for sd-ext (Recommend 2048 or less, or CWM has issues restoring backups to the sd-ext)
Any size for swap (If adding swap partition, you need an app like Swapper2 from the Play Store to use)
When done partitioning, select "Reboot system now"
FIRST BOOT MAY TAKE AWHILE! 5-10 minutes, possibly!

Recently, I wanted to root my H7100 but I was unable to connect my phone to computer. So, I decided to root it in other way. I wanted to get some more space and to get a Hardmaster ROM so I decided to experiment.
First, I found RootMaster apk. So I tried it and it worked. (http://d-h.st/Ctf)
Then I have done following (see the attachments):
1. picture - Press the root button
2. picture - Press the root button
3. picture - Press the purple button
Well, now you are rooted.
Next step was to put recovery into my phone.
1. I have downloaded and installed the app Flashify from the play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify)
2. Download Recovery.img (http://d-h.st/12M)
3. Flash it through Flashify (press Recovery image and then Choose a file, in Open From choose your file explorer and locate a recovery.img and choose Yup!
My next step was to increase the internal memory with this app (http://d-h.st/Z0P)
1. Install it as any other APK
2. Run it and choose the size you wish, but DON'T CHOOSE 3GB - it will erase your internal sd card
3. Press Reboot recovery and Wipe Data/Factory Reset the phone.
And if you want to get rid of chinese bloatware, get some speed for your phone, or some other tweakes you can install Hardmaster's ROM. But not by his way, we can do it the faster way.
1. Download Harmaster's ROM backup (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B20F9DClLNBbUzRCWjI4bVJBN1U/edit)
2. Put it into sdcard/clockworkmod/backups/ (make a new folder here and put the backup into it)
3. Flash into recovery (turn off the phone, press the Volume UP + Power button at the same time...you will see the traditional CWM screen and wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache (Advanced-Wipe Dalvik cache) and format system (mounts and storage), after that press Backup and Restore and choose the name of your folder where you have put the backup
4. Wait for it...
5. Reboot the system and after a while (5-10 min.) the phone will boot.
Well, now it's up to you to develop some new things into this phone. If you want some tweakes you can install Exposed installer.
Happy rooting
Disclaimer: I'm a total noob at Android-related things but not general computer-related things.
I've installed MultiRom, the modified recovery, and kexec_patch_stock_311.zip. I've downloaded Linux4Tegra R23.1 and put it on the internal storage of my Shield. I have a 64GB microSD card that I've split into 2 partitions: 1 primary FAT32 and 1 primary EXT2. I booted into recovery and used the MultiRom option to install Linux4Tegra to the FAT32 partition. It completed successfully but I can't boot into Linux. If I choose Linux4Tegra as the default upon booting it goes straight to the MultiROM boot manager. What am I doing incorrectly?
Also at first I flashed MultiRom but upon booting it showed a countdown with a cancel button that I couldn't tap so I flashed MultiRom Touch Support but I still can't tap any buttons or cancel the countdown with physical button presses.
Cheers
