Hey people
I am getting the charge tomorrow after having the fascinate for 6 months..I used CWM and ran Evil Fasacination on that for most of the time and i wanted some help on seeing what everyone thought was the best rom or kernel was to go to after using thoes thing. Also i want to know how to do it with the charge and is it like the fascinate?
Thanks

anyways your best choices right now to get the Fassy experience are probably froyo roms with a voodoo kernel

Personally, and I have tried many of the Rom's, I ended up using the Debloated Ginger Bread Leak EP1F and Loaded the EE4 Radios from Kejar31 and here is why. On Froyo, which is what your phone will come with, the battery did not last that long. I loaded the EP1F G/B leak and noticed a huge difference. I tried the latest leak EP1H but noticed a few issues so I went back to EP1F. I was having an issue with 4G and running Barnicle as well as other issues on EP1H but since I went back and loaded the EE4 Radios things have been great.... Once you do you can download Launcher Pro from the market and rootexplorer and tweek anything else you need to tweek.
Hope it helps.
If you liked Evil Fascination, then the choice is obvious: Eclipse, which is Nitro's ROM for this phone and is basically EF+ for the Charge. Just had a big update today, too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144015
And FYI, the last poster's claims about Froyo battery life are just wrong. It's the kernel that really determines your battery life, and as for that, just like on the Fascinate, your best bet for great battery life is imnuts' undervolted PeanutButta Jelly Time:

Read the 1st word I wrote (Personally) Don't tell me I am wrong. I stated my experience and there is no way I am wrong. Also for your info, many people stated they are having better battery life on Ginger Bread then they did on Froyo. If you disagree you have your right to state your opinion but don't state I was wrong based on my experience. I have tried PB&J and tried both A/B and Gummy and I have not experienced as good battery life as I have on Ginger Bread.

When I was on Froyo, I used Gummy first then tried out Humble. Humble gave me better battery life.
Now I'm on GummyCharged 1.5 Gingerbread and still getting good battery life. I think the main thing is to condition your battery. This starts with always flashing ODIN ROMs with a fully charged battery, this makes all the difference I believe.
I didn't see any reason to stay on Froyo, Kejar has done an amazing job with GummyCharged and fixed all the issues I was concerned with moving to GB.

Thx! u helped a lot
I've gotten best battery life on Eclipse v1.2. Altho I will say Humble was not to bad either but for whatever reason Eclipse gets better signal which makes a world of difference on battery life.
I've also tried the GB builds and IMO they are still not up to par. They are all based on leaked files that are nowhere near ready for release yet. And on that note there is newer builds then the one that is leaked even.
I loved Eclipse but my GPS wasn't getting a lock better than 10meters.
Humble 1.3 was absolutely garbage for me in terms of battery life, but the new version 1.33 is AMAZING
I charged my phone up last night and calibrated the battery, left it unplugged the entire night (i was sleeping) , 9 hours later i woke up and my battery only dropped 7 percent. I was at 93. Previously, i was losing 20 percent battery if i left my phone on overnight.

Title says most. I am going to be getting my charge on tuesday and have been doing some research about what rom to try, and gave it narrowed down to these two. which one do you like more and why? I have read the threads on both and they seem pretty even, just wondering which one you prefer and why...thanks for any and all responses!

Perhaps you did not research enough, enjoy.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171270&highlight=humble
they are both good but I prefer Humble because of the battery savings...Gummy is very snazzy looking though and works pretty much flawlessly and quick. Its a tough choice honestly but I personally want/need the battery to be as efficient as possible and for the Rom to do everything I need it to do.....Humble does that for me..as an example I have been unplugged for 9 hours---dropped 31% battery! I say thats a pretty nice win!
Of course your mileage may vary and everyones battery life is different...I think either way you will be happy...I say try both for a few days each and see
I will be trying both personally...but I have to flash one on both my daughters and wifes phones as well..and they hate it when I change their rom after they her their phone setup

Heard that, thats why I never work on my familys phone anymore. Lol.
Why do you have to flash it on both of their phones? Just try it yourself and then give out the goods lol,

No one seems to get that battery life is 99 percentinfluenced by the kernel....most framework mods that claim battery savings are either placebo or stupidity
Humble gets good battery life because it packagesimnuts undervolt kernel in
Use the same kernel with gc and you will get virtually identical results

I was using imnuts pbj voodoo kernel and decided to try gummycharged and it just locked up the phone, sloooooow reaction to moving screens, scrolling, opening apps, etc and would lock up all the time... might've been my imagination but data (3G/4G) seemed flaky too, even after several wipes and reflashes. Guess my Charge doesn't like it Oh well I just loaded up the debloated EE4 and it flies with imnuts kernel

uhmmmm i want better battery life. i'm a CS major too so i'm fine with technology, i just never wanted to pay the 30 a month for data until now. and i've had the phone for a few weeks now.
Humble has great battery life, don't want to disregard what Nitsuj said but I swear I have much better battery life switching over to Humble then I did on GC. It might just be the battery gremlins but the battery life was noticeably different, maybe it's just my imagination since its advertised to be a low power ROM.
Humble has some cool animations, it's sort of a love hate thing. You may get incredibly sick of it after awhile but you can easily turn the option off.
Humble is updated very frequently, that might not be a good thing for you. It's very easy to flash the updated versions if you're already on Humble but you may not want to keep downloading new updates every few days, I personally love it. Keeps the ROM fresh.
Humble doesn't have that nasty freeze/reboot issue that happened about once every day or two on GC. Might have been a bad flash but I read about others saying it happened to them as well.
I believe Humble has an increased Dalvik cache which supposedly is the source of increased battery life. I have personally never used GC, but flashed Humble on day one and fell in love with it compared to the stock ROM.

I hate it when people that obviously have no clue as to what they are talking about start making BS up.. Especially ones who disagree with people who obviously know a ton more than them like nitsuj17....
I can tell you right here and now that there is no way that Humble has significantly better battery life the GC or vice versa..
I am not here to rip on Humble its fine rom (Its built on the GummyCharges base) and if people like it better than GC than that is fine. But people who spread BS piss me off.
I have been making ROM's for the better part of a year now across multiple Phone(three) and will tell you that any ROM especially ones built from the OTA (such as these) will never see an increase of more or less than 5 ~ 10% better battery life with any tweak you can apply. The increase they do get is from removing bloat and install custom Kernels..
If both ROM's were set side by side with the same kernel they would more or lass last the same amount time under the same utilization.
Making a change to the heap size in the build.prop will not change battery life, anyone who tells you that is full of $hit or obviously clueless..
Sorry gotta call FUD when I see FUD
To the OP I suggest yo try out all the ROM's and make the decision based on your own opinion.. Most ROM's will be a vast improvement over stock.

how is my personal experience making BS up? Like I stated I dont know why the battery life is better. I am not a dev or even super experienced in smart phones. but the fact is with the same Kernel and the exact same apps running that are restored from TB on all ROMs the battery life is different. I appreciate everything that everyone does here to improve and make these devices better than they originally came out. The things you guys do and the knowledge you have is crazy. Way more than I can ever understand personally.
Maybe it was an error on my part when I installed the other various ROM's. I dunno...but my own personal experience is not BS. Its upsetting to have someone claim that my honest experiences with my device are BS. I receive no benefit to claiming either is better or whatever. If you see post #3 I pretty much said what you said. try them out and form your own opinion.

Because like it or not your opinion is based on perception and perception is easily fooled when it comes to battery life on these phones. I have seen it again and again. People believe that one ROM has better battery life than another bla bla bla.. Most if not all those people have no numbers to back up their assumption.. To top that off I am sure you did not recondition your battery stats before using each ROM.
And on top of all that its almost impossible to create an environment where you actually test each phone equally.
So what we have to go by is what is actually changed.. And I can tell you here and now... Its almost nothing, nothing under the hood is that much different at least in the modules and drivers and radio and kernel. And as someone who is a dev I can tell you that nothing about either ROM can make that much difference in battery life.
I have gotten good results and battery life from humble. First time i used gc it didnt do well on my phone. Not sure why. Second time around it was much better.
I also used altered beast v4 and it was just awful on my phone. Exchanged my phone for a new one and installed the same v4 as before and it was like a totally different rom.
I have had similar experiences with blackberries as well and if i remember correctly people always said roms act differently with other same model phones
I always set my phone up the same way and with the same apps and widgets.
I have been running GUmmyCharged 1.9.1 froyo for a while now and looking to upgrade to gingerbread. I have been very happy with gummycharged, although battery life could be better. Would you all recommend switching to Humble 3.1 gingerbread or sticking with GummyCharged 2.0 RC?
is there anything special i need to know if i decided to flash from gummy to humble?
Thanks in advance. THis is the best forum for android users. hands down.
I was on Gummy 1.9.1 for months and absolutely loved it.
I got bored one day at work however & decided to try a GB ROM. The TBH leak had just come out, so I decided to try that. I flashed to that with the latest imoseyon kernel. Other than the colors being kinda ugly, it worked super.
A few days ago, I odined the latest Humble GB ROM just for kicks. Other than the fact that it's better looking, I can tell almost no difference whatever between the two setups.

Stay with gummycharged. To my experience, gummycharged does not have as good a battery life as humble but there are subtle things that keep me with gummycharged.
I prefer imnut's TW4 build of EP1W over either Gummy or Humble, at the moment, though I'll probably try Humble again when he gets the full battery notification removed.
TW4 is very, very lean, and very quick.

I refuse to use Humble for personal reasons.
The claims that Humble has better battery life are completely unfounded. All in all, they are the same speed and battery life, it's just a matter of what interface you like best.

Thank you all for the response. I will probably stick with Gummy.
I have used both..Humble 3.1 is very stable, battery life is excellent Quadrant scores were consistently in the 2000 range, and I have experienced no issues so far.
Gummycharged 2.0RC1.5 was very quick also, very smooth but had syncing issues and I had some random fc's..its a matter of preference

I would recommend trying both out for a week. That's what I did with humble 3.0. 2 days ago I switched to gummy 2.0 RC 1.5.
So far I prefer humble, I did a have very noticeably improved battery life over gummy, it also was alot smoother and real world use was extremely fast. I like the customization available for gummy but it looks like ill be going back to humble unless a new build of gummy comes out.
On another note I still use the ee4 modem. I am experiencing the same crackle that is notorious with the EP modems, but my 4g remains more consistent and the transition to 3g isn't noticeable at all. Hope this will help.

Hi all. Just wanted to say that I got my new Charge today and love it. I put the leaked gingerbread rom from tbh on there and I think it's great. I could have waited for the nexus or gotten a bionic, but price was a huge deciding factor for me. Performance is on par with the bionic. Nice little machine for a cheap price (from amazon).

Only the CWM has prereqs. The Odin version is all-in-one.
Yep download the Odin file and flash it. It contains everything you will need (kernal, radios, and obviously the rom itself) and you will enjoy your phone even more. The kernal included in the file also supports overclocking if you are into doing that as well.

Humble is no faster than the TBH leak set up correctly (I have tried both). TBH plus the CoreDroid theme is better looking than Humble also IMHO.
I am using the TBH setup, imoseyon 4.0 kernel, fuju tweaks, etc etc etc & it is EVERY BIT as fast as any Humble ROM. It hit 2400 in Quadrant and is the fastest smoothest setup I have ever used.

I owned a Bionic briefly, other than the dual processor the Charge is better in every possible way. The screen on the Bionic is absolutely hideous compared to the Charge.....

many topics posted on this, the search feature is ur friend
My opinion
Seanscreams skyscreamsandwich rom has excellent battery life, I think if you try that with the new UCLA kernel you'll be very happy.
I have the stock Rogers ROM, rooted with CWM installed. I installed updated stock UCLA radio and kernel last week to get the benefits of latest kernel. Worked great but I've never been thrilled with battery life so Saturday I flashed Faux kernel v. 9m I think it was, on top of stock ROM and new updated stock radio.
Installed Set CPU to control new scalable speed kernel. I'm not easy to impress but it's absolutely unbelievable. Set to a conservative profile I've got blazing speed and 50% better battery life after 2 days use.
Go for it but don't do any playing before installing custom recovery ( CWM) and making a Nandroid backup.

The Skyrocket has respectable battery life, consideeing its LTE and 4.5",screen. A ROM is not yoir solution to getting extended battery life out of your phone. While some ROMs are more battery friendly than others, there are better alternatives. Juice Defender seems to be really popular and successful at prolonging battery life.

Needless to say before any of that is done, you wanna make sure the following is done first:
1. Make sure your phone is rooted and have Clockwork mod setup.
2. Do a nandroid backup.
Hope this helps.
