[Q] can I revert back temporarily - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey I am going to and event tommorow and I am actually going to use my video camera I dont use it often but I Got the Update from LG when it first cam out and I hear that the vanilla android camerea app shoots in 720p not 1080p I also heard to OTA update contains a camera app that shopots in 1080p. So since I cant get the OTA update yet can I somehow uninstall GB just for tommorow. I notuiced on the LG mobile updater there is an option for phone recovery. I put my S/W off the box in and the tmobile g2x p999 and it brought me to the same thing as the update should I try that?
Charlie

so you want to go back to froyo?

Yes just tempilariry. So I can get the 1080p video then I can just wait for the OTA update that should be the final version.

Im in the same situation haha. Im looking around different threads and I think we can flash back to the froyo rom by using nvidia's flashing tool with the froyo rom, not too sure if the phone has to be rooted though.
let me know if you find something!

If you have the LG mobile updater for your computer I noticed that there is an option to recover your phone. If you still have the box you need the S/W version or number you can try that I haven’t yet but I might. Just so you know I don’t know what will happen so if you try do it at your own risk and if you do let me know. Do you need to be rooted to use nvidia's flashing tool ? Because I am not rooted

I have no faith in the LG update tool lol, the only reason I got mine updated is because a tmobile rep did it for me when I went in today but let me do some more research and ill get back to you

Optimus 3D release-date facts, rumors, speculation and all that...

Alright, lets kick off the new Optimus 3D forum with the latest rumors on when it will be released.
More than one UK retailer (yes there was 2 different ones) has/had it on their sites for release at April 26.
Now there is supposed to be an official PR about the O3D being released in June, but also almost 100GBP cheaper, more on this at:
http://www.lg-phones.net/lg-optimus-3d-coming-to-uk-in-june
or
http://www.fonearena.com/blog/31975/lg-optimus-3d-shipping-in-june.html
What about Honeycomb?
I would say it would be a longshot if they didnt put Honeycomb on it; its very powerful device that needs to have the good stuff..Honeycomb in 3D would Awesome! ALso, i dont remember what phone(its coming soon) and i think it'll have Honeycomb version
Honeycomb is tablets only
25 april by expansys.it
anyone known what file system use this phone
I watch clip & see that camera has clean android UI
Update release date, late May in UK, better than the last news on early june.

Not at all. It is optimized for tablets, but any phone can run Honeycomb. The 3.0 is not a new branch of Android, it's the same...
BTW, LG France created a Q&A in Facebook with lots of info. It's official : no 3D before June
That's better for me, I'll have to pay for my Nintendo 3DS first lol

Mmmmh you sure ? I was thinking the whole device is built in China, no ?

UK mobile operator Three has leaked some slides showing a June release for the Optimus 3D.

Looks like June is showing up in a few places. This is great because I don't get an upgrade till June anyways.
It is shipping only with version 2.2, will be upgradeable to 2.3. I really hope LG does a good job of getting this update out there. Usually companies take a while to get it finished and considering LG has to make a 3D UI, I hope they are already working on it.
This device was probably started a while ago and they have been working on it for some time so that is probably why it is only version 2.2. Most phones coming today should have 2.3. No reason to not have it.
The fact the phone will ship with 2.2 is really a problem for me, as we don't even have an idea about when we'll get 2.3. As I'm coming from Sony Ericsson and the X10 "fatal update failure" (8 months with Donut when everybody had 2.1/2.2, since January 2.1 but NEVER new update...), it's really scaring me.
TI OMAP will give crazy results, but HTC EVO 3D looks promising - and shipping with 2.3. HTC as I know is much more working on updating their phones right ?

Don't go so crazy here. 2.3 is not a significant performance bump compared to the leap from 2.1 towards 2.2
2.3 is more of a refinement within the Android platform. As you stated, the OMAP chip is a great performer. Now a benchmark can be staged but when you see similar results from different sources, then the numbers are solid. The Evo 3D too should be a speedy phone, but it will be released later than the Optimus- if that influences your decision at all. Finally, LG has openly stated in numerous occasions that the 2.3 update should follow shortly after retail release of the G2X & the 3D.
Dated release at 2011-06-03 at a Swedish retailer.
Guessing that rest of EU will be getting it at the same time.

That's not too bad, as long as it's not the end of june. I'd like it in my hands before then
I been researching the specs of the optimus 3d/ thrill 4g and have come across speculation about the RAM of this device. I've read in some places that it has 512mb of RAM, then in some places I've read it has 4GB DDR2 RAM. Can anyone confirm this?
If it does indeed have 4GB of RAM, then I'm sold.
EDIT: It has 4Gigabits not 4Gigabytes. So essentially it has 512MB of DDR2 RAM.

[Q] Any reason NOT to upgrade from Froyo to Gingerbread?

Is there any good reason to keep the Froyo 2.2.2 on the G2x instead of upgrading to the GB 2.3?
Any advantages or disadvantages of keeping Froyo. Do you lose out on anything?
I would upgrade to gb just to get the latest baseband, because it did help much with certain wifi and rebooting issues, then downgrade back to froyo simply because of lg camera app, and stability. I've previously owned the nexus s, which had gingerbread and right off I noticed this g2x version of gb needed much improvement in comparison to the NS version.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
Update your device. The camera issue is not worth not updating. The phone works much better on Gingerbread. Froyo doesn't support dual core cpus well. Gingerbread was designed with the new dual core chips in mind.
But that browser bug in gb is a pain in the a$$ tho.

Geah!

G2X should I change rom?

I have a G2X I had just gotten a couple of weeks ago. What I have learned about it is that it is rooted, has Android ver 2.2.2, Kernel ver 2.6.32.9, software ver LG-P999-V10f. I do not think this is the Gingerbred version all are using. the phone works great as it is I'm just wateing for the new digitizer to make it like new.I am wondering is there any advantages to try the Gingerbread rom for this phone and could it be changed back the way it is if wanted? Pros and cons? any info would help. It is superfast compaired to my old iphone 3g.
Thank you
Eddie
2.3.3 is the latest gingerbread released by LG. It offers more features than froyo. Since your phone is already rooted, you should have clockwork recovery already installed. Read up on flashing roms on the threads. You can flash a rooted stock gingerbread rom or one of the customs offered by various devs. And yes this will blow your iPhone out the water. Not even the iPhone 4 have the processing power the g2x has. By the time the iPhone 5 releases, I'm pretty sure it will be ancient also since we should be seeing quad core early next year.

I dunno, it's mighty conspicuous they did not say G2X....
Specifically, on Facebook it says:
"We are initially announcing LG Optimus smartphones that will have Ice Cream Sandwich OS upgrade!"
Then on the actual article it says:
"Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE."
That CLEARLY leaves out the G2X.
They are only focusing on the O2x because they originally said it wasn't getting ICS because it was out "before" the Google Update Contract. It was all over the web and now LG publically announced it was a rumor and said they are working on it.
We'll get it eventually. The G2x isn't that old yet. It technically should have been launched with GB. The GB update was promised Day 1 as "GB isn't finished yet, so we'll just launch it with Froyo to make everyone happy". GB update = doesn't count.
So there is no reason why 6 month old phone won't get updated. Probably won't be speedy though.
@above: Optimus 2x = G2x
Same line of hardware. Tmobile has to officially release the update for us... so it won't be announced via LG.

Had the same theory with the Samsung Vibrant. Galaxy S phone, right? So when Galaxy S phones worldwide got Gingerbread, the Vibrant should, too, right? Nope, it was different due to T-Mobile radio and T-Mobile didn't care to push an update. So every Vibrant user is still rocking Froyo while the rest of the Galaxy S world is running official Gingerbread. And don't say Cyanogenmod - support was so bad thanks to lack of closed driver support that CM9 is dropping support for the Vibrant completely, and CM7 never ran right on it.

That's not completely clear. As I recall, the Gingerbread update was originally directly from LG via their updater, and the OTA from T-Mobile followed that.
I am so tired of saying this, but here I go again. The G2X is an Optimus 2X device. To LG it is a 2X. The Optimus 2X line includes the P990, SU660 and the P999. The G2X badging was only for T-Mobile to continue their line of "G" high-end Android devices (i.e., G1, G2, G2X). It was easy for them and LG to just add a "G" to the front of the 2X name. That is why the P999 in Canada is a 2X. Only T-Mobile is allowed to use the G2X name. It is a proprietary name for T-Mobile only. It will get ICS so stop fretting about it already.

It ran smooth, but GPS was flaky (you couldn't turn it off, or it wouldn't turn back on until you rebooted) and the battery life was pathetic compared to stock.

Agreed but this obviously isn't Samsung. We've already had an update and have NO reason to suggest we won't be getting more updates.
NVidia and LG have closed drivers but that doesn't stop development. Everyone labels LG as being a bad manufacture based on bad experiences with Samsung.
While I would like more "openness" around the device as a whole, I do ultimately blame NVidia. Even on Desktop Linux boxes, NVidia is hush hush.
IMO, looking at LG or any other manufacture, it doesn't really pay-off to release source code within the first year. You have to think that manufactures have to warranty the devices for a year and people boinking their hardware over some poorly self-compiled driver only costs them money.
I predict we'll get an official ICS upgrade and be shut down. The question is if we'll get a new kernel or if they still pimp that Froyo version!

ICS cannot run on the old kernel. It will have to be a new kernel, and more than likely, a new baseband also (as Qualcomm is continually updating the baseband code to finetune it, so there is no reason for LG not to improve the device with a baseband update also).
I've long figured that while there was a small chance LG wouldn't release ICS for the G2x there was a much bigger chance they would.
Here's my logic: The launch of the phone was a disaster from a PR perspective and left a lot of people considering other manufacturers for their next phone. As a result LG has a lot of ground to make up in terms of consumer trust. In terms of repairing their reputation releasing ICS for the G2x would go a long way to rebuilding the trust they lost. As long as LG's beancounters determine that the money put into developing ICS for the G2x is worth it LG will do it.

The lag is present on both 2.2. and 2.3(don't known about 4.x...), it's caused when you touch the screen, causing it to use 100% of cpu power, it's very noticeable when playing games. But we have wonderfull kernel developers that fixed it!(btw you would need to be a root user...)

No, thats what I was trying to say, official(2.2 and 2.3) with default kernel lags, but if you flash another kernel(non officiall of course) with a modified touchscreen driver it won't lag.All up to date kernel have touchfix

The two phones are very similar, going to the p500 really wouldn't be much of an upgrade at all. I would personally recommend installing cyanogenmod on your current phone as it would run just as well if not better than the p500. Our phone is very old and has been eol for a while. The only advantage it has over yours is the battery, which is much bigger. If it's a free upgrade and you'll never be offered anything else ever again (it isn't some kind of points system with your carrier or something like that), or if your xperia is dying (battery won't hold a charge anymore etc) otherwise just save your money because they're very similar phones.

you flash new kernals the same way as roms
you go to recovery. install from sd, choose zip, clear cache, clear dalvik cache you are done

yeah. but if you get this phone, thendevelopment will be limited. half of everyone won't have an optimus one by december
lets face it, this phone has no future.
optimus one is defenitlybetter than the xperia x10 mini but both of these devices will be truly xda obselete by the end of this year
Edit: its ok. the world is going to end on Dec 22.
well yeah both will be obselete here, so if to choose from one better i think its not a bad choise LOL

Go for O1 I always want to shift to a new phone but this O1 is always enough for me
If u don't want to spend money, then go ahead.
There are so many smooth ROMs and kernals with stunning performance.
