LG is sending out a maintance upgrade for the g2x to correct all the software glitches that have been causing rebooting etc. this update will hit middle of may..SO, everyone hold tight, LG G2x will reign supreme, no need to replace
Do you have an official link, post, pic, or proof? I prefer to build my hopes on company made promises.
Is this based off the stock 2.2 rom?
Why not just fix the 2.3 leak and release that
i went to tmobile store today amd multiple store managers at different stores comfirmed that LG contacted them and said a maintnance update is coming out within a couple weeks, to fix all the devices.....I believe this to be true based on probability 3 different managers from 3 different stores told me this, when i was trying to exchange the device.....i got it exchanged and my manufacturing date is 4 /26/11, anyone else have one made that late
LG is retarded. I was calling them because of a headphone compatibility issue and they guy didn't know what the g2x or the p999 was. This was a rep in LG's mobile accessories department. I told him I was embarrassed for him.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I was at a local store just yesterday after work asking about the camera issue, and there was no mention of it. I've made multiple calls to t-mobile customer service line and same deal there.
Any details on the fix, what issues it will resolve etc? My camera basically takes pictures/videos but the screen goes DARK and you can't exactly 'preview' anything. Same deal with any other camera app from the appmarket or barcode scanner apps as well.
Store mentioned other customers have reported the same thing, but no resolution yet...
the weird thing was i had to go to multiple stores because almost everyone was out, but not saying anything to any manager, the one said LG sent them a message that a maintnance update was scheduled for g2x in midmay to fix rebooting, freezing, and all other glitches. So i went to another store, and i said NOTHING about it, and then to my suprise, the manager there said, dont worry we just got notice that a maintnance update is coming out midmay as an ota update to fix g2x. Then i called another store, and the lady manager there said yes i heard that too... at that point, i was so happy, because folks, i didnt say anything, so how did all of them know.......
Weird.... I have absolutely no issues with my g2x, and honestly I am not going to do any upgrades unless it the official gb release. My only gripe is the BS battery drain issue, which I wish people would stop making excuses for.

If they operate like any of the companies I've worked at, the managers probably go to monthly or quarterly regional meetings. I'm excited about the update though. Thanks for the tip for sure. Hopefully our devs can roll this into their ROMs fairly easily. I can't wait to see what future OTA updates can do!
there is a report about an lg o2x update online. i've seen nothing about the g2x so far. hopefully these reps are not mistaken.

Yes Thats my date and I have very minimal screen bleed and only one reboot so far and the phone works great. I ordered a replacement to see if I can get less screen bleed and I got a 4/28 one with much worst screen bleed that u can see during the day so Im returning the new one and keeping the 4/26 one which rocks!
The o2x is a UK phone so I don't see how they could mistake.....the supervisors are confident its coming out very soon....guys I would hold off on flashing until this is straitened out...my GPA was messed up after flashing.hence my return even after I went back to stock and hard reaetted........g2x forever....hopefully morfic can get us a kernel which increases our ram......like he did on vibrant.Nordic I love you man you have a fanclub with the most loyal g2x owners

I've never had less than 60mb of RAM free at any given time. Not sure a RAM hack is needed on this phonee.. Seems to handle its memory wonderfully.

Yeah, I don't understand the RAM concern either. Seems to be a small obsession with this guy; he started another tread whining about how "handicapped " the phone is because it has so "little" RAM. I really think he just doesn't understand how Android allocates memory...
My G2x was fine no reboots or freezing. Then I flashed Eagles Blood and I was getting frustrated with the keyboard lag so I reverted back to stock from my nandroid back up and now I have had one reboot, it has frozen when coming off the charger twice now. Kinda wish I would have never flashed a custom rom.... I am hoping this is legit and everything gets patched and is ready to rock again!

lol, you put too much faith in customer service. people were actually sent replacement g2's for their g2x.
UK Version
Hey everyone, thought I'd register to chime in.
The UK version of this phone was released with its own LG skin so it makes sense that LG would release a patch to correct their own custom made skin (the problems that people seem to be having in the UK are reported to be much much worse then the G2x).
Don't expect the same patch to be released for the G2x because there is no LG skin on it. The patch for the G2x should be an android update.

I had major battery drain issues phone was lasting only 6 hours and I ended up doing a factory reset and now my phone can last all day! I can unplug the phone at 2am wake up at 10am and use the phone , fb, gmail, web browsing, and youtube all day and still have 40% left by midnight.

Even though the G2x is not running LG's interface, I'm pretty sure LG still has a hand in the updates. Just like T-Mobile will also have a hand in the updates.
Hi, just curious about those who are having trouble updating through the official LG Update tool. I myself am having trouble as I'm consistently being informed that my phone is up to date, however my phone remains reverted back to 2.2.
Something interesting is that my device's model number is listed as a LGP999DWP as opposed to a LGP999DW. I'm curious if anyone is having any luck with updating the LGP999DWP, so, any luck anyone?
DWP is not getting the upgrade from LG as of yet, just the 999DW. That's led some people to speculate that this is not a final release.
If you're rooted, use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748
It's a rooted version of the update that can be flashed.
Yea, I saw the rooted version, I was curious about the difference in DW and DWP, the rooted ROM seems to run fine but I'm curious if there's something different in the hardware as to why the DWP isn't receiving the full upgrade, like the baseband update, something I'd be interested in tinkering with, that's all.
Thanks for shedding some light though.
I believe the DWP models are a second production run of the G2Xs. As far as I know there aren't any differences between the two. I've tried to find a source as to the differences and I'm unable to. I can speculate that the 999DW's were the ones having the majority of the issues and they pushed this release out to those first to stop the onslaught of angry customers flipping out on LG. The DWP isn't listed as eligible on LGs website yet. I really am starting to think that this "official release" was actually just a distraction to get people off of their backs while they finish the upgrade testing.
I flashed the rooted version and I can vouch for it. It's been great so far, it's snappy and responsive and my Quadrant was about 200 points above Froyo. It's worth flashing.
Yea, I'm about to flash evil's and see how that works since he just rebased his off of this update. I've been trying to see what the difference is in the two models other than the fact that DW I received from my preorder was severely flawed, and the DWP I received as a replacement has had 0 issues.
I do agree about this being part of a smoke and mirrors type stunt on LG's behalf. Kind of funny that this comes out right after the class action suit and right before T-Mobile begins internal tests on a G2x gingerbread update.
As far as getting OTA updates, is there any difference between being on T-Mobile's phone network or on random wi-fi link? Does it make any difference if the sim card is in the phone or not?
I don't have reception at all at home so the phones are just on wifi and I often only spend a few hours a week on T-Mobile's network. So at that rate I may never get the OTA update. And lately my SIM card is in my spare rooted G2x which I've been using to try out ROMs.
Does anyone have any idea how phones are selected for updating? Random based on IMEI number? Phone number? SIM card? Date phone was purchased? Date the phone was manufactured? Does account type matter? Prepaid vs contract etc.?? The lack of info about this is infuriating. Same as the new market, weeks later, still no new market on my stock phone (not side loading anything on that phone).
The fact that Google has no direct support for Android at all and they are leaving support completely to grossly incompetent companies like LG and T-Mobile bodes very poorly in my estimation. Will this have me go to a locked down phone like iPhone or WM7 phones? No. But it leads me hoping they might open up WebOS more and get it on some better hardware.
Basically, is there anything I can do to influence the situation, or is it completely random? Does checking more often help, or will my phone only get the update once Google/LG/T-Mobile determine my phone will get it???
No one has any idea? Not even wild, inaccurate speculation??
I am interrested in knowing this as well! I spend most of the day on wifi calling either at work or at home...
I recently spoke to tech support he told me he would recommend updating thru the lg update tool because its a secure connection.

I heard they use IMEIs, but I don't think the IMEIs are necessarily in order of oldest to newest. One of my buddies who bought his nexus one from google a couple months after I did would always get OTAs before I did.
And we both got OTAs over wifi. I wouldn't know if your sim card needs to be in there, but I would definitely leave it in and just run the *#*#checkin#*#* command just in case.
But nonetheless, to anybody:
Please use alogcat while downloading the OTA.
Once done, just upload the whole logcat so that we can find the URL for the OTA.
Ha! Strangely, I got my OTA GB today. While on cellular, not wifi. Go figure.
Still waitin' on the new market......
Sorry, I wish I had known about the logcat thing. I may flash stock 2.2 onto my spare rooted g2x and wait to see when it gets the OTA, I want nothing to do with the LG updater app, but I might loose patience, we'll see....
Oh, and the *#*#checkin#*#* command??? Has this been tested to work on the G2x? Is that regarded as useful on Android phones in general? Or certain brands, like just HTCs? Search isn't showing too much info on that.

Is it normal that I still haven't gotten any OTA update? Im over in NY and went to stock ROM, went to stock recovery, and unrooted the phone. When is the OTA update rolling out until? Did it stop? I keep getting connection failed when manually looking for a software update.
And I don't want to manually use the LG tool because I am afraid of bricking the phone and don't want to go through the trouble of unbricking it.
I never got the OTA either and it was announced they stopped. The LG updating didn't brick my phone either.
I was actually wondering the same thing.
I called Tmo CS over a week ago, and he swore that I would be getting either an email, text or phone call, letting me know that I would be getting the update. He was nice, but I think he was new (didn't seem all that sharp). I did ask him about the rumor that they stopped the OTA, and he said that there was nothing about that in his system. He said, according to his system, it was still active. I asked him like 3x lol.
I have a refurb, so can't use the LG update tool. I know there is an alternate way of doing it, here on the forums, but I'm just too darn lazy lol. I will be calling Tmo again, in the next few days. If I get any useful info, I will pass it along to you.
I like my G2x, but honestly...between LG and Tmo, this has been one, huge clusterf**k. Thank God for the devs here, and around the net. They have done what LG and Tmo have continuously failed to do...made me a happy G2x owner!
ive had the same issue trying to do it by the phone so used LG tool and .... bricked my phone
i called Tmo and they exchanged my phone at no cost. the new one came with Gb preinstalled.
Why not just screw the OTA and grab one of the great custom, pre rooted roms. I did the OTA thing and had to re root. Ran the official update for two days and got tired of the thing. The custom roms spoil you.

I'm running EB 2.3.3, and love it. And thanks to EB, I also love my G2X again. But I would like to have the new baseband. And I can only get that from the update.
Really, what I think it comes down to (for me), is that I want T-Mobile to step the hell up, and stop jerking me around. How do you release an OTA...but only to SOME? I've just never heard of such a thing. And how do you release your "flagship" phone, then realize it's got issues, and then try to sweep all the owners of said "flagship" under the carpet...where you don't have to deal with them any more? It just makes me sad. I used to brag to all my friends, how much I loved T-Mobile.

I kind of sympathize, but people recommend custom roms as a blanket solution to random issues way too often. Don't get me wrong, I love EB and CM, and xboarder's rom is fantastic, but the first two don't have a2dp and the latter won't still give you a new baseband. For people like me who have a non-functional gps and rely on a2dp, the official update is pretty critical.
Also, is there any evidence suggesting T-Mobile actually pulled the update? I think I know the post where this rumor started, and for what it's worth, a pretty knowledgeable rep told me about a week ago that the OTA is still rolling out, and will continue to do so through August. If the roll-out is slow, I don't think its too surprising considering what little space lg has to screw up again.

And the mms works SO much better than other ROMS I've tried.

Ok, so I happened upon an LG G4 H810 AT&T variant at a pawn shop a few weeks ago, they couldn't get it working because of the boot loop issue (person that pawned it probably did so knowing it was defective and had it working just long enough to demo it to get the cash). I took a look at it, great shape overall, no damage noted, plain old "ceramic" back cover, battery had a date of January 15 2016 on it so it's tough to say if the battery was just newer or the device itself since I couldn't get it to boot. Date code was 508 so obviously one of the well known defective models.
Long story short: got it for a pittance because they couldn't get anyone else to buy it, got it home, registered it at LG's website on my account, waited 2 days then chatted their support up and got them to accept it for RMA, shipped it out last week and it should be back tomorrow. I'm not sure if they repaired it or replaced it - the limited info I have says they "Swap Board (Main/RF)" so I'm guessing the entire motherboard was swapped for (hopefully) a newer one made this year that might not fail but probably will.
So, I had a question or two and I've done quite a bit of research the past few days and never found specific answers so at this point I'm just going to ask them and be done with it:
1) There's apparently no working root at all for the H810 that I've been able to find. I'm going to assume that the unit I'll be getting tomorrow or Tuesday will have been upgraded to Marshmallow unfortunately but that's just how it goes so there's no rolling back as I understand things. If there's a working root I'd be interested in knowing which one that happens to be. Also with no root there's probably no recovery either but I will keep researching to find out more as I'm able.
2) There's apparently no custom ROMs available because of the locked bootloader which will never get unlocked obviously as well. I've read that the PR (Puerto Rico) ROM could be installed on an H810 that was still running Lollipop with the v2 rollback but if this repaired board is Marshmallow that means it's been upgraded to v3 rollback and so that's dead in the water too.
3) I'm also going to assume that if the board has been replaced and hopefully is one made in 2016 (with a 6xx serial number) then it could last a while but there's no guarantee of it. I've seen people say the 6xx versions have not failed but then I find a post or two from someone that claims to know someone with a 6xx model and it failed at least once on them but I can't get any actual verification on it, that's just hearsay to me if there's no direct proof so all I can do is continue hoping it's a 6xx revision board and that it's not going to fail anytime soon.
This will be my second G4, had a Sprint variant last year and never had problems with it, sold it to a gent from Australia when he visited Las Vegas and as far as I know he's still using it, who knows.
If anyone can offer some info related to those questions I'd be grateful so thanks in advance if anyone can.
Have fun, always...
EDIT:
Seems that if I get very lucky and the replacement board comes with H81020n on it - the original Marshmallow build - there's a chance I can roll it back to H81010o using the TOT method from the other thread for it, that would at least get me root potential I suppose. Guess I'll find out tomorrow if the replacement arrives. Can't find any absolutely verified info about later builds, looks like the very latest patch build is H81022b from September and I'm going to assume if that happens to be on the board then all hope is lost, basically. Ugh...

I haven't kept up with root, but I doubt anything MM latest or not you won't be able to root it. Also never flash wrong model firmware like the PR version. In the past that was a last resort firmware (before we got a back to stock for the actual AT&T model. You could get lucky but chances are you'll get a board with the latest or just the last previous firmware especially if it has a newer serial.
Pretty much the AT&T G4 is a device you want if you don't tinker with the device. I honestly love the G4, until certain apps even new apps ran worse on the G4 than they do on my G2.

Just got the H810 back, checking on the board info here in a bit (if I can even detect anything) but it's running H81022b so I'm guessing that means I'm stuck with it as is but that was somewhat expected. I'm not going to even bother attempting a rollback at this point, will just wait for the yellow leather cover to arrive in the next few days then I'll put it up for sale on craigslist I suppose and go from there.
I have to wonder exactly what they did because the board info that I can detect using the LG Info tool from the Play Store still lists the same info for board date/etc (January 2016) so I don't know what the hell they actually did.
Kinda sucks but it's how things go sometimes.
