NVIDIA Release Drivers for MeeGo! - T-Mobile LG G2x

I honestly don't understand this article. Are these the same drivers we need for Gingerbread or are these drivers specifically for MeeGo and MeeGo alone? Either way its good news because now a dev can try to port MeeGo to the G2x.

Wow! This could really help here and in the G-Tab community if we could get our hands on them.

This is great, I would love to have Meego running on my G2x.

So can any of you brilliant minded XDA dudes confirm if the driver is Universal? Universal as in being able to work on Gingerbread and future roms such as Ice Cream Sandwich?

True story bro.

We already have TegraII drivers for Android 2.2 etc, and if they can't be used for Android 2.3 or 3.2 then I don't see how a MeeGo driver could be used for 2.3 or 3.2.
Just sayin'...

I guess I misunderstood what was being released. I thought they were talking about the drivers required for bluetooth etc that no one seems to have to be able to get A2DP working.

It's a Linux xorg GPU driver. More specifically its what's referred to as a "hardfp" driver. Meaning it takes advantage of the Tegra 2's hardware floating point math capabilities. It's nothing more than that. Also being that Meego is just a specialized version of your standard Linux distro this will not work with Android.

I would like to see someone compile Meego on a device a lot of people own already. Like the ASUS transformer.
There's work being done to port Dalvik to Meego too.

MeeGo uses X11, this should help with making other Linux distributions be nice to use on the Transformer.

Just his claim of Honeycomb makes me call shenanigans.
The current projects that I am aware of are all targeting a Gingerbread-based system dual-booting with WebOS. Anyone know of others?

I thought it was up, but the Cyanogen team was going to have it donated to charity if they won, i'm not sure though.
ahh ok i had heard that it was removed because it was causing more problems than actually promoting development like it was supposed to . anyway i hope CM (or to be honest anyone ) get a port done soon, i want to see what this thing can do when not crippled by HP's stupidities ( printing, bluetooth pairing , adhoc tethering ,the damn arrow keys etc etc ). I dont blame webOS i blame HP for trying to lock the device to only work like they want and with their things only( kinda like apple which why i never liked apple).

So The Nexus One isn't getting official ICS because it doesn't have enough space on the system partition(speculation as no one officially knows the real reason) but do you think this will be the case for many phones including the Captivate? Would suck if the bottleneck for peoples phones would be “not enough space"

The main speculation for why the Nexus One is not getting ICS comes down to two things: ROM storage for the system and the processor speed.
First, the Nexus One only comes equipped with 512MB of ROM. After the system files are installed, it leaves something around 200MB for apps, which is not a lot. ICS is supposed to take even more space than GB, so having something like 50-100MB for user apps would be likely...and unpleasant.
The Galaxy S phones all have 2GB of internal ROM I believe, so I don't think that issue will apply.
Second, the Nexus One has an older 1Ghz "Snapdragon" SoC. Although clocked the same as a Galaxy S phone, it is made with an older design, and performs less work per cycle. According to a few articles I have seen, the "Hummingbird" SoC in the Galaxy S phones has up to 3 times the GPU power of the older "Snapdragon" SoC...and roughly a 30% increase in real world performance.
Given that ICS will have hardware acceleration for 2D drawing, the slower processor (especially slow for GPU type elements) is likely a big hindrance, that again, should not apply to the Galaxy S line.
So keep your fingers crossed for this I guess. I will be! I am confident there will be a working unofficial release, but very doubtful about anything official.

WebOS on Droid Charge

With the announcement of webOS moving to a open source platform, am I the only one wishing for a port of webOS to the Charges' hardware? Sure its not the most powerful phone or neither does it have the strongest developer base, but I'm still hoping for it one day. This is coming from a person who had a Palm Pre Plus prior to my D'Charge, so therefore I'm very familiar with the way webOS works and I still today miss it the fluidity of the platform. So let me know, am I alone?
In theory, I suppose it could be done, as WebOS is also Linux based. However, it would take a LOT of work-I think the time put into such a project would not equal the number of people who would want to use it.

In all honesty I would like to see ICS before I would like to see WebOS, but I feel like these ports would be coming from different teams. From one corner their will be developers working to get ICS to all non-nexus devices and in the other corner their will be people working to get WebOS on android devices and once its done here it will be picked up by other developers and tweaked to work on the particular device they're developing for.

Each n every Dev here is skilled. For me there has always been 3 kind of peoples. People who are end users who just buy the phone and fear to fiddle with it cuz it will void the warranty. Others are power users who doesn't care about warranty and do flashing testing and even sometimes tweaking the code (these are the extreme power users). The last are developers some who add their own logic to the code to add new things and fix things the others are extreme developers (who has the android code in their brains like people in LG and Ricardo and last but never the least Google itself)

The Optimus black's source hit in a couple days.
So what about the news that the Atrix has a leaked official build of ICS now? It's the only other Tegra 2 device that is exactly like our phone. If it would have came out months ago it would have been nice but now that it's out so soon to an official release for the p990 it makes me kind of sad.

Been covered before, the Atrix is a bit too different to be of much help. It's a Tegra 2 but there are some differences.
I'm just concerned if the Korean Su660 is similar enough to the P990, and thus the P999, for its source to be of use, or if we still need to wait for p990 source?
My secondary concern is that there will be additional time/issues getting all this to work on Jelly Bean, which is what the "cool devs" are going to work on anyway.

It's the same phone, minus a button + an antenna. Besides, the p990 is pretty much a p999 with a different radio and partition, while the su660 is the same with different kernel level changes (as the p990) (or something along these lines. It will get us cm10 though)

As far as i know, the difference from ICS to JB is MUCH MUCH smaler than GB to ICS. From what ive collected so far, if we got the ics source we will be able to get JB to work almost flawlessly, maybe not perfect, but a normal user like myself wouldnt be able to tell any difference.
To me that is great news

Yes, with source for ICS, JB will run fine.
My Iconia tablet was upgraded to ICS stock, than with the source, the devs pounded out a fully functional JB ROM. I use it as my daily driver.
