[Q] Is there a way to tell a replacement is refurbished? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Strangely, searching for refurbished returned no results.
I finally bit the bullet and am getting my G2x warranty replaced (I think $20 is almost a ripoff for a defective device but I understand they need to cover shipping and handling).
The rep said there was no guarantee of it being new or used, and more importantly, there was no way to tell. I'm pretty sure there is, doesn't the model number change, and if it does, where would I find that?

That would be the -DW vs the -DWP vin number things on the back of your phone under the battery cover, i believe.
Someone correct me if i am wrong

Idle if this will work but on my evo I go to the dialer and hit ##786# and if you scroll down it'll say reconditioned status

It won't show under the battery door or under the battery...both stickers will say DW, regardless of whether it's refurb or not. The easiest way that I'm aware of is to connect your phone to the LG software updater and let it read your phone info...it will tell you the model # correctly. Don't worry, there's absolutely no chance of bricking your phone by doing this. All you are doing is letting the software read the phone info.

I'll try that again, when I tried before it just crashed...
I guess in the end it doesn't matter too much, I'd just hate to replace my release day model with a refurbished release day model!

Most likely your replacement is refurbished. Not a big deal. Are I having issues with it?

G2X No Longer on T-Mobiles Website

So if you go to T-Mobile's site and search for the G2x the only products that come up are the home dock and the car dock.
Any ideas as to why this could be?
Edit: was told the phone was on backorder via chat with rep. Sounds fishy. Even if the phone were on backorder they would still sell the phone and advise the purchaser that it was on backorder.

Wow
Wow, either they are admitting there are problems and removing it from sale for now or just an error. Gotta swing by a store and see if they still have it.
I notice they advertise it on their main page, but if you go to shop all phones its not there.... very weird. Hopefully they're not ditching out on the phone

I can't click the "Add to Cart" button. It's grayed out, can anyone confirm this?
Also, this http://www.tmonews.com/2011/05/has-the-g2x-been-pulled-from-store-shelves-due-to-quality-issues/
I hope it's just an inventory thing. I don't wanna find out there's something wrong with this phone, the fact being the G2x I just bought from Amazon is on it's way now.

If it is a QC issue I wonder what T-Mobile will do about it. Complete refunds or exchanges of similar devices - i.e., Sensation.
I doubt they would drop the product all together or that they will issue refunds or excahnges. My theory is that they might stop sales until a update is released.

If they did pull it for QC issues I really hope they do either give me a refund or exchange it for a comparable device (sensation I'm guessing)
Just remember the G1... they pulled it out of the lineup to catch up. Same thing went for the HD2, and a few others. You'll notice the magenta sidekick is in the same boat for upgrades. It's not quality, it's "we way oversold." I confirmed this with a friend that works in a call center.
Omitted !!!!
WoW I'm glad I returned mine, not saying that they wouldn't have taken it back any ways but this is a huge blow. If I were g2x owner I'd take it back today!

Why and what phone would we get to replace the g2x when sensation haven't came out yet
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
Why do people care so much whether your current phone is on the website or not? I understand people interested in buying it but why do you care if you already have a G2X? You have a T-Mobile and Manufacturer warranty and if you are worried, return the phone.
My phone is far from perfect but yet the G2X is still the best phone I've ever owned. I couldn't care less if they stopped selling it. Might actually be cool to have a limited edition phone

Ur obviously not getting the point here. If they pulled the device for Qc issues and they push out new versions or fixed devices then ppl who already have the phone that has issues want to know if they can get a replacements. You have the device and it mysteriously disappears from tmo site, wouldn't I concerned that ur device is faulty
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
just spoke to TMO, they said they have no information about it but I spoke to an account specialist in customer loyalty and asked if it does turn out to be true would they offer refunds or replace the phone, they said yes they would if it ends up to be true. They would either repair it, replace it(Guess when they fix the issues) or give a like device

I have an N1 so when I took back my G2x went back to it. I am patient and await the out of come of this craziness to determine wheter I'm going to just wait for the Hercules to come out. I refuse to get another HTC device until they fix their battery consumption issues.
I got stuck on a trip - my G2X battery started getting EXTREMELY hot and eventually would not charge past 20% - and had to go get another phone. No choice, had to have a phone.
TMobile was "kind" enough to replace my battery, despite the fact that the G2x constantly reboots, and has screen bleed.

SIM Card Slot Pin Broken ):

Well I switched from an iPhone 4 to the Nexus S (Nexus S is better) but I used a micro-sim adaptor but when I took it out one day it took a pin with it. I called Samsung and they said they don't do repairs like that so where in Canada can I get this repaired? I would love any advice. Thanks!

Same crap happened to me. But I guess I got a little lucky cuz only half of the pin broke off, the other half I just bent up so it would touch the sim when it was put in. Worked for me. Idk if yours came off completely or partially like mine did

The person on the phone said as long as it's not physical damage they can fix it for free... which is ridiculous if you ask me because most people on this forum could fix any non-physical damage on the Nexus.
They told me to go to Rogers for some reason to get it repaired even though I said I got the phone as a gift and it was not from Rogers. I guess I'll try calling them again to see if I can get anyone more helpful.

Well after a long time of playing with it I manage to get the phone to read my sim by putting strips of tin foil on the contacts on the sim card. Disappoints me that I have to do this though and now the phone has no resale value.
I just got mine spoiled after returning from a holiday I've tried putting the copper thing back in place and slotting it back but it doesn't work. Now i have to wait till tomorrow to call Samsung support in hope that they will fix it if i pay money because my device has no warranty because it is from Australia and i'm using it in Singapore. Will they accept it to fix it if i pay for the repair?
And can anyone who used aluminium foil or anything to make it work post photos or videos on how to do it? I have no experience in soldering and stuff (15 years old) and i dont know how much foil to put there. Please help me!

Your post is kind of contradictory. You say they wont fix it for free. That suggests that YES they will fix it, but not for free. Which makes total sense, since you physically broke the phone yourself. That's not covered under warranty.
But then you go on to say they told you to talk to Rogers. Your post is very confusing.
Rogers is a carrier. If you have some sort of damage plan or replacement coverage they may help you. Otherwise, at best, they're just going to send it Samsung in the first place. More likely, they won't touch it.
Your options are to try to repair it yourself, try a local shop, or try Samsung again. I seriously doubt that they wouldn't repair it, for $$$.
Or get a 3rd party warranty. Although, that would be pretty unethical and possibly illegal, filing a claim for damage that occurred before you signed up for the plan.

How hard would it be

How hard would it be to replace the charging port on the phone? Mine is on the brink of death and a whole new phone isnt exactly in the card right now so I thought about just replacing the charging port, but I dont know what all would go into it.

I'm not sure about replacing but have you thought about buying an extra battery that comes with a charger for just the battery so you just switch out the battery when it dies. I got mine for like $15 on eBay

Replacing it wouldn't be that hard for someone with some skills with small electronics. If you or a friend have those skills should be pretty painless. If not use that link that eellio sent you or find a repair shop in your area.

That was my reason for looking to get it fixed. I have pretty good soldering skills and I woulndt attempt it.
Juls if they will warranty it I would go that route. I figured it was out of warranty.
Side note, has anybody attempted to get mobile odin ported to the sgs4g? That would do away with the need for a cable.
The mobile Odin will only work if you don't Odin back to a non rooted stock.....must have root to use it .....I looked into it and will eventually let it run its 30 min long log to hand in for a request for our device

If you went with insurance I hope you told them you lost phone? By doing this it allows you to keep your phone for parts or even use it as a tester phone so you can try to flash risky stuff without worrying about being left with a dead device you will have spare. Hope you understand what I'm saying. If you say phone has problem you pay 130 and ship back your phone to them. If you already told them there was an issue and they want phone back wait a day call them back and say the phone is now lost
NOT stolen this way the phone can't be locked out hope this helped

I have not tried after I received the phone but have called a day after I put in claim and no problems. It's worth a shot I mean it could really happen. I always tell them I lost it why should I pay 130 to give my phone away and then they fix cheap and sell it high. Even if the device is broken there are still good parts that you or someone else could use
Side note you can put old phone on ebay and probably get at least 100 dollars to help cover the insurance cost.

I should of seen that coming. But who is screwing who, as phone company charges 600 for device then they require a 2 year contract and phone is only warrantied for one year so you buy insurance at 10 a month for 24 months another 240 we are now at 840 plus when phone breaks you pay another 130 for a grand total of 970, and you get a refurbished device. If you pay 600 bucks for a device on contract then you are doing it wrong. I paid right at 400 for the phone and car dock OUT of contract.
I understand what your saying, however it is insurance fraud. I disagree with people doing this and will speak up every time. Plus Im sure your comment and my replies will be reported to a mod and get this thread either locked or them removed. Because xda doesnt condone this and doenst allow these type of conversations.
Food for thought, if you are caught doing this it can also cause you to be non insurable as well as criminal charges or for however long the insurance company feels necessary to report you as a risk for fraudulent claims when attempting to get insurance in the future.

I agree with you and understand where you are coming from, but it makes me wonder...
If you were to flash your device and hard brick it, and you have insurance. Would you call Tmobile and say "I rooted my phone and was attempting to load third party firmware on it when I messed up and my device will no longer turn on."?
Or would you simply say your device does not turn on anymore?

I sat for three days with a semi hard bricked Droid X that I got the day after they released. I was about to buy a new phone when moto's version of odin was leaked and I was able to restore it. I also thought my Optimus V was beyond restoration and after hours and hours of tinkering got it back alive. I had paid for insurance from best buy and thought about using it but personally I couldnt do it.
So to answer I wouldnt even call them. I would start saving to replace the phone. I broke it I have to eat it.

Could I get a replacement for this?

I have 3 charges on my account and one dumbphone. In most places we use the phone, the charges always get problems like dropped calls and fuzzy/distorted audio on both sides. The dumbphone never gets anything like this. We used to have a DROID x on one of our lines and it never had this problem either. Basically could I complain to vzw about this and get something else?
I am guessing that because they are getting over $200 per month from us they will bend over backwards when we threaten to leave.

You could probably get a replacement from them, but they'll make you jump through hoops (including a usual 2 identical model replacements). I give them $250 a month, and they didn't budge an inch for me when I complained about the Charge's squealing issue.
I agree with Cilraaz, going to need multiple replacements. I went into the store yesterday trying to get a different phone since I have been dealing with the static popping on received calls. This will be my second replacement (first one had a white line going vertically on my screen). Here is to hoping that the new one they are shipping will have the static popping.

I was told you have to have two identical device replacements before they'll swap to another device. Others have gotten different devices on their first complaint by being forceful. It really depends on how you handle the situation, who you get on the phone, and how generous the call center manager is feeling that day.
Well I am going to give this one a chance, but if it is no better than the first, they will not be sending me a second replacement, it will be a different phone.
I'm ready for another phone too. On my 2nd Charge with screech/pop sounds.

[Q] g2x replacement?

Hello, all.
I've recently broken my g2x beyond repair--physically that is. I've been using my girlfriend's g2x and before I contact t-mobile for a replacement (I have premium handset protection plan) I wondered if anyone had recently tried to replace their phone using the same method?
Two questions follow:
Was your phone replaced with another g2x, or a phone similar to it?
Was there an option to pay the difference for a phone upgrade?
If you go through Assurion, you need to call them and ask for a different model. We filed a claim online and got another G2x.
If you're going through T-Mobile, you have to get three replacements in six months before they'll offer a different model

I can confirm this mine broke a few months ago and online all they offered was g2x so I called and asked and they offered me a HTC oneS came brand new in box with new micro sim and I am loving it very stable.

Actually it wasn't...the thread has been talking about the insurance replacement not about the T-Mobile warranty exchange program...they are two completely different things.

I called asurion and filed a claim today.
They said they could only send out a different phone if the same model phone is not available; I didn't want to push the issue since I'd be getting a new phone anyway.
the deductible was $130
Didn't want to create a new thread so I'll post here. My G2X recently started sensing the headphones even when non are plugged in which doesn't allow me to call without using the speaker. I went to a T-Mobile store and the representative there, after checking if my phone has been rooted off-course, said that for $5 I will get a replacement in 2 days which is a "much better" phone. What I got in the mail is a G2, which is a) 6 months older b) has a smaller screen c) has a single core processor d) has a slower wireless modem - I can go on and on, but the point is it's not an equivalent phone. This was the first problem I had with my G2X in 1 year and 9 months of owning it, so by all means replace it with another one or something that is better. I am going back to t-mob today, but I am not holding my breath. I'll keep people posted on the results of my expedition. Any insight into this matter is greatly appreciated.
Keep is posted, interested in seeing what they do for you....of anything at all

maybe treat it as an honest mistake on their part at first. I'd be surprised if they stuck with the verdict that you deserve a G2. You didn't tell us what replacement plan you had or what warranty you were using to get it fixed. Also, usually the headphone issue can be fixed with compressed air or a straw brush or q-tip dipped in alcohol to clean off the contacts, which can register a headset when nothing is in there.
tell them you want your G2X back if nothing else. It's probably worth more with the headset issue than the G2 new.

Didn't get a chance to stop by yesterday, so we'll see what they say today. I am an electrical engineer so I can easily fix this issue, I just think if I pay $7.99(premium handset protection) I should be able to use it - especially since my wife and I have paid it for 2 phones for almost 2 years. I came straight to the store and the T- Mobile representative filed the claim for me - so since it was only $5 shipping I assume the replacement is direct from T-Mobile.
Well, as expected, the T-Mobile rap agreed that the G2 is inferior, called customer service to see what they can do and and they said - "too bad-so sad." After that, he said that the only thing he can recommend is calling customer loyalty(I'll try it but I am not holding my breath). So the bottom line is, T-Mobile stole $400 of my money over 2 years for 2 phones since the protection plan did absolutely nothing for me even when my device broke. I am sending the G2 back and that's that. TMobile offers the cheapest service, especially if I have 3 lines with unlimited data and a 10% discount I can get through work, so I really doubt I'll switch to something else.

Well, finally after 2 visits to the T-mobile store and contacting customer loyalty department twice - the first time I was promised I will get a replacement G2X - and the order was never filed - I got a nice shiny refurbished LG L9. It's not the greatest phone, but it sure as heck beats the G2 and is definitely better then the G2X. Not sure why this was so hard to do in the first place?
Glad you got a new rig man!!
