[Q] Is this phone unlocked? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

The reason I ask is because I live in Australia and I've got my mind set on importing this phone for personal use. I'm 95% sure it will work with the network bands here (UMTS Band I - 2100). I also know Walmart are offering this phone for USD 539 (outright) and I can probably get it shipped to me via a forwarding company like priceusa or shipto.
My only concern is whether this device will be unlocked for me to use here? If locked, how easy (or hard) is it for me to unlock it from here?
Many Thanks
CJ

From what I've read so far, the retail devices are being shipped/sold S-ON. However, S-OFF is usually only a matter of software reworking so you should be able to do that from anywhere. Mine is coming today I'll let you know if it's S-ON or S-OFF but it'll probably be S-ON. I figure if we give it a week or two devs will fix all of that for us and we'll be able to run just about anything on this puppy!

I think he means SIM unlocked so he can use another carrier. This phone is definitely SIM locked and will take a few days before websites offer the unlock codes.

Yep, I was talking about the SIM. I'm prepared to wait a few days for the codes. My only concern is having to speak to T-Mobile directly to get an unlock code.
Ahh well, I guess I'm waiting a few days then. Will keep a close eye on this beauty.

if you can be even more patient, we'll probably have some form of subsidy unlock that won't require an unlock code in the coming days. I've already put myself out there as a guinea pig for obtaining S-OFF on retail MT4G slides, if any of you guys want to do so as well I'm sure we can get the ball rolling pretty quickly.

Anyone know how to unlock the Captivate once it's rooted? Or do I need to buy a code from one of those sites? Thanks.

Did'nt they pass some law or loose some class action suit, after 90 days in good standing or something like that AT&T has to give you the unlocked code... The only exception I think was the Iphone, something about thats apple's terms to unlock or not....

You're in the same boat as me. I bought one today knowing it was locked and might not have a code available for a few weeks from one of the "usual" places.
If you did like I did and bought it legit from an AT&T store, there's a chance you can call up AT&T tomorrow (what I'm trying) and get it unlocked all proper like. Otherwise, you may be in for a bit of a wait.

Problem is I bought it outright from Best Buy today to use on Rogers in Canada, so I don't have an ATT account. I thought the unlock would be relatively painless.

..and likewise let me know how you make out with AT&T.
Yeah me too. One reason I'm hesitating to buy it is that it's sim locked to AT&T. Since I also travel to other countries, I really need a totally unlocked phone. Please let us know how it turns out.
Phoned AT&T this morning and was told that the Captivate cannot be unlocked, at least not right now.
I called back (sometimes that helps) and chatted with another rep. and was told that AT&T has a 10 month exclusivity to the Samsung Captivate, and there would be no unlock until then.
10 months?? exclusive?? Get a clue AT&T, this thing is available on every major network, and unlocked on most.
If you don't have a post-paid AT&T account, you will get no help from AT&T for this unlock.
But most AT&T reps have no clue what it is. You have to explain to them. But only if you meet the qualification (post-paid, at least 90 days etc.).

I've tried the second one and they came back with 'no code found', and refunded my money.
I also phoned AT&T with my brother's account info and they told me 'can't unlock the phone for 10 months due to it's an AT&T exclusive phone'.
I called AT&T as I have a Premier Account with International calling and always get a subsidy sim unlock, but they were unable to find the unlock code. It seems that these are not available yet. AT&T might be blocking them for a while since the phone is so new.
Tried www.cellunlocker.net/www.unlockcodesource.com and they could not find a code for my phone either. Just ordered from www.unlockallcellular.com. Lets see how that goes.
For some reason, my IMEI ends with /2 after the usual 15 numbers. Anyone know why?
same here, 16 digits/2
My order with unlockallcellular.com is showing as Generating Code... at the moment.
Not getting my hopes up at this point though.
Order is still pending, but they have updated their website, the Captivate is now listed as Not Available.
Bummer.

Keep us posted if you find anything. I'm waiting on my phone (I'm out of the country too). Hopefully they figure things out in the next week or so. Hope I don't just end up with an expensive new toy...
I am starting to think that this has something to do with our weird IMEI's that end with /02. Maybe some new sim lock feature that Samsung and AT&T have come up with to prevent unlocking. Does anyone know the Vibrant and Galaxy S IMEI formats? Do the have 15 digits and the /02?

Unlocking the HTC Inspire 4G? Methods

Hi XDA - Just joined the "Android Team" from being a long-time iPhone user. These forums seem much more intuitive. The one thing I can't seem to locate is SIM-Unlock services\assistance.
I just bought a HTC Inspire 4G, and normally I just call AT&T and they give me the code to punch in and it unlocks it when I use overseas with foreign SIM. This time they said since it's an ATT "exclusive" phone, the unlock codes won't be available for customer care to provide until the 6 month window has been reached, which will be August.
What alternate methods are available to use for unlocking? I really don't want to modify the software, so how does unlocking on android work? Are there websites that can provide unlock codes? If I take it to a cell kiosk at the mall can they do it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Right now, the only way to unlock the Inspire is to flash to an older radio ROM (it had an exploit), unlock it, and restore back to the stock firmware

Yeah I get it I'm just a week old in the Android world and not super comfortable to mod yet. I know just about everything related to jail breaking iPhone I just wish there was an easy step by step guide to mod and unlock my inspire 4G :-(
Don't worry, there will be soon enough, it's just a brand new phone.
FYI All - Just got an email from http://www.HTCimeiUnlock.com/ stating that unlock codes are now available. Please note I'm not afiliated with this site in any way, just sharing the info. I just bought 2 codes for $25 each for my 2 Inspire 4Gs and they worked, yay sooooooo excited now!
EDIT: YEAH I know this is pricey for an unlock code, but they're the first I found with them, so like any business, the first to the market can charge what they want until everyone else catches up... good way to add $100 in resale value to my phones for $25 tho, hehe.
Thanks for the replies
Bought the unlock code $25 from them yesterday, and voila! I am using my Tmobile on this phone now. Thanks for the info.

I was very impressed with their service.. I bought 2 for the 2 phones I have, and they were the only legit unlocker I could find. I was at the end of my rope too, I'd paid for 4 others to get the unlock code and they'd all email me after 24 hours saying code not available.
Glad you got it unlocked too, enjoy!
Yes, they were great.very quick to response with answers to all the questions I had. I was at the point of flashing my new phone with limited knowledge of doing that. A previous unlocker failed to find the code for 2 days.
Just a quick question about the unlocking. When you unlock it and use it on T-Mobile you are not getting their 3G service right? I haven't looked at the bands available in this phone but I would be surprised if this supports both the T-Mobile and AT&T bands.

EDIT: I got an answer from attn1. It will work without a sim card. Just don't insert one from another provider until the very last step.
Does this get you the s off or just unlock it for different sim.

Want to share my own experience and give heads up to an independent unlocker.
I have the knowledge to go for the unlock method presented here by the OP, but I lack the time to do it and I can probably make the money to unlock 10 phones in the same amount of time I will use to go through this process, so I have decided to unlock the phone through a simple purchase code method and will root the phone later when an easier process comes out. I would be also happy to pay for that since I don't really have time to go through the flash-root process.
So when I first got my HTC Inspire, I went right away to ebay in search of the unlocker I used last time to unlock an HTC Aria. Was surprised to not found the unlocker I was looking for and worst, despite he had over +63k positive reviews, he was somehow been removed from ebay and other unlockers claim he was out of ebay due to fraud. hu?
Anyway, I had his email so I contacted him over email and asked regarding the subject, he said somebody (other unlockers it seems) were accusing him on fraud thus he was removed from ebay.
I got a little reluctant to buy again from him after "hearing the news" but after exchanging few emails with the guy, I told my self "is just 20 bucks for the code, worst can happen if he's not right is I'll loose the money and he'll of course will get the worst advertising"... so, I added him to my gmail chat to have a close talk and after paying him with my google checkout account, 10 minutes later he sent the code over chat and email, which -needless to say- unlocked the phone right away!!!
You can search through my posts on xda-forum and you'll see I recommended this unlocker before, [email protected], he is the **** and offered the least expensive unlock code for the Inspire, only 20 dollars, you can pay with PayPal or Google checkout. There is the word outside that he is not right and committed fraud, even this other jealous unlocker post his email address on a scammer's site and I can assure all this is not true at all.
I send others relatives with this guy and all of them got their unlock codes in shape and time. This is presently the least expensive unlocker out there for the Inspire codes.
He also has a web site http://blowfishunlocks.com, you'll need to register to order the code, but I would recommend do the email thing.
This guy is real, he has a real address and I recommend him 100% for unlocking the Inspire or any other phone.
On a side note, AT&T willnot realease the unlock code after 6 months (new policy) and this is why I had to buy the code. I use this phone in mexican's Telcel GSM and works as charm and I had to manually configure the APN for the 3g.
hey tongas i just bought the phone on ebay and i will be adding that blowfish guy over my gmail chat because i will also need an unlock code. anyways i live in mexicali baja california mexico .. were did u get the info for the APN for 3G on telcel. im going to activate it here too lol .. so some info would be really helpfull thanks .. the buyer said hes sending my phone during this week so hopefully ill get it by tuesday next week.
also a general question and its for educational purposes does anyone know if this phone will be capable of runing programs for testing my wifi securety to see if it till cough up my wep key? please let me know if i am breaking any forum rules for making this questions its not my intention to do so. Thanks .
Hey dude, no problem
Use the info on this thread to set the APN manually:

Blowfish dude rocks, I'm at pacific/central Mexico over Telcel and this my second time buying from him, the guy is super cool over chat, tell him you found him through this forum, he was so thankful I posted this for him, the man is straight business and he will have you setup in a bit.
Enjoy your HTC Inspire I'm doing so with mine, this thing is fast and super nice... wish a little bit of more battery life but wth! phone is super cool!
It's cool to know that unlock codes are available for this phone
@bella have you watched r34p3rex's video tut? I followed him to the T and successfully rooted, unlocked, and flashed this puppy It's not too bad I think... Jailbreaking was just wayyyy too easy (at least it was when I had a non-mc 3gs) It was a lot of one click jailbreaking for me. The only time I really had trouble was updating
Back to the point! I'd suggest peeps give ol' r34p3rex's video tut a shot (or a good several viewings) it might seem daunting at first... but follow the instructions and you won't have any issues
When I unlock my phone I feel very accomplished. I added all that resale value just by disabling network locks!

[Q] Unlocking the MyTouch 4G Slide

I just tried to get an unlock code from T-Mobile but it wouldn't work since I had just gotten an unlock code for my G2x recently and I have to wait 90 days. I bought both the G2x and MyTouch 4G Slide out of contract for full price for use on FlexPay but I still couldn't convince them to give me the code. What are my options? Anyone know of any sites where I can buy an unlock code for this phone? I travel a lot and I really need this phone to be unlocked asap.
Try this site: http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/
I've never used it but it looks pretty reliable
Typed in my IMEI to get checked and no luck. No unlock code available on that site either. I guess HTC just hasn't released it yet and it'll take some time. Thanks though.
Uh-oh. I might hold off on purchase if unlock codes aren't available yet....
I just came across these guys
http://unlockthatphone.com/
Not sure how legit they are though.
http://forums.crackberry.com/unlock...unlockthatphone-com-its-nice-meet-you-540727/ - Their post there seems to be legit..
Anyone willing to give it a go?
Okay so I actually got two honest replies (I think) when I asked two websites about the unlock code. HTCimeiUnlock.com and UnlockThatPhone.com both told me that HTC updates their database every 3-4 weeks with new unlock codes and until then no one can unlock it and both of them will inform me once the unlock is available. My phone must have been manufactured super recently and the wait shouldn't be too long til the unlock code is available so when I know I'll update back.
Fair enough mate. Do report back on how you go.
This effectively means if I purchase this phone now, it will be of not much use to me... I'll just keep looking for a good deal.
Okay so even better news. I tried the T-Mobile live support chat again and for some reason this time the rep has put in my request for an unlock code so hopefully I'll just get it emailed from T-Mobile for free! I'll let you guys know how long it takes. This time I did make it a point to mention that I purchased the phone for full price from a T-Mobile store, not on contract pricing. But I feel like I just got lucky with the another T-Mobile rep.
I like the initiative mate. Hope it works out for ya. If you don't mind me asking, what details did they ask you for before lodging your request for an unlock code?
I'm wondering because if I import this phone (Sydney, Australia), would I be able to get them to lodge a request for me over the internet via live chat, without giving away the fact that I'm overseas?
Cheers
You'll need to have a T-Mobile account because they ask all your account details. Soon enough all these unlocking websites will have the codes available to unlock the phones so by the time you'll get one down to Australia it won't even be a problem. I just got the email from T-Mobile so now I can unlock mine! Good luck to you.
Nice one mate.

it seems using gfree is a bad idea, it should be ported to a certain phone.

Hi Mate,
Yes, I did get the phone. I bought it off ebay. It took 18 days. If you do purchase it off ebay, make sure you don't use USPS - they are slow as.
After I received the phone, I got it unlocked via ebay ($20) and then bought an Optus Sim. I can happily report that it is working 100%, no issues what so ever.
Great device. No complaints so far.

Will at&t one x work on tmobile if unlocked?

Just wondering if I decide to use a tmobile prepaid sim in it.
UPDATE for the lazy folks:
Yes, this can be sim-unlocked
Currently, this is the only unlocker who is able to: http://unlockphonenetwork.com/unlock/3
Turnaround time is 12-24 hours.
No, this phone does not have 3g on T-Mobile, only 2g EDGE speeds are possible.

2G uses the same basic GSM frequencies as phone calls, I think. If you can make a call, you can get 2G. Really slow 2G...
Just as an update, I have two pending unlock requests for the HTC one X from different companies (got a good deal so the two were only $15 combined).
The first one I tried failed and they refunded my money. Hopefully someone can unlock this device.

Not necessarily true.. if you use a newer tmobile sim card you will only be able to make calls and text, there is no Edge unless you use an older sim card.

Well, UnlockMagic.com just failed and gave me a refund.
I went ahead and purchased an unlock from http://unlockphonenetwork.com and in record time they refunded my money. They claim there is a method (http://unlockphonenetwork.com/products-page/htc-unlock-codes/htc-unlock-code-not-found?cid=25) but its $30 and will take 12-24 hours.
In the interest of science, and of course getting my phone unlocked I am taking the plunge now.
my bro is currently in the US, he'll be leaving on the 11th, so i don't think i've got much time :S
Sorry for the crazy amount of posts, but those subscribed may not have seen all my updates (and they were plentiful).
The quick summary:
cellunlocker.net - failed
unlockmagic.com - failed
first attempt at phoneunlocknetwork.com - failed
cellunlock.net - pending
htccode.com - wouldn't let me proceed after sharing my IMEI
QUESTION - if they manage to unlock the BL, will that also allow us to make it SIM-free ?

Question S21+ T-Mobile locked issue

I jumped on the S21+ T-Mobile variant as it was offered with extra $100 off, cheaper than unlocked. I assumed the phone would be able to be used on any carrier since it would be fully paid off. But inserting my Verizon sim, I'm greeted with it saying the sim is unlocked and a reason code 132. Anyone have any ideas on what's going on, what I should try, or just return for unlocked version?
Try calling T-Mobile for the unlock code. I thought phones in the US weren't locked anymore or maybe they won't be in the future. Good luck!

Thanks. I'm working with T-Mobile now, and they have suggested that I make a T-Mobile account then try to unlock it. Hoping all goes well
T-Mobile can't even *see* the phone to unlock it if it isn't attached to a T-Mobile SIM, so they won't be able to unlock it (nevermind willing) without that. If you can get one in there, you might be able to use 'team of experts' through Facebook or Twitter and have them unlock it, they're pretty good about working around normal limitations when you explain situations to them. We were able to get a still on EIP iPhone unlocked when we were in the Philippines by letting the TES agent know we were wanting to put a local SIM in, I would hope they'd be willing to work with you if you let them know you didn't realize it would be locked.
Will eat into your $100 discount some, though, with the risk that they tell you it still has to be active on T-Mobile for 45 days. I've always had good luck with them, they seem to be more capable of independent thought than a normal call-center person, provided you're calm with them.

Were you ever able to solve this? I have exact same thing going on with a Galaxy Tab S7+ that was bought directly from Samsung. Thought was too be unlocked but it's locked to TMobile. Strange thing is 3 different stories from 3 different TMobile reps. Phone can't be locked since you bought from manufacturer. Yes we can unlock it. And no we're can't unlock it until you've spent over $100 with prepaid fees lol.

Yes. Actually it was pretty straightforward, I sent a message to tmobile T-Force on twitter and I provided my imei and they said it would take up to 72 hours to unlock. And they followed up with me notifying that it should have been unlocked. It works, using service on verizon now
Was it @TMobileHelp that you actually tweeted
Download tmobile device unlock app from playstore and try unlocking.

So thank you for the suggestion. The Twitter TMobile contact was the secret. After hours on the phone with T-Mobile support (and without being super critical they were just NOT very knowledgeable .... I think I knew more than they did) the Twitter alternative was quick and easy. They added the IMEI to their system and I was unlocked in less than 24 hours.
