Default Keyboard orientation Problem - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Guys is there any way I can disable the orientation sensors of my phone so that it remains in portrait mode during the general use, but as soon as I type in a text entering field the keyboard which comes up is in landscape mode??
I only want the keyboard to be in landscape mode by default whilst the rest of the phone operates in normal portrait mode...
I miss this functionality from my old symbian phone.. Please someone direct me..
Any help will be greatly appreciated.thanks

problem with screen rotation

hello everyone,
i own acer e101(os:windows mobile 6.5). i am having a problem with screen rotate function. when i set it to landscape mode from potrait mode, and when any one calls or i call some one, the today screen changes to potrait mode and stays as it is even when the call is discontinued. i have tried resetting it to factory settings but no success.
please help me with this. rest no problem with my cell. i have tried installing different screen rotate softwares from internet and still same problem persists.please do help.
(i am new to the site,if i have posted in wrong place,am sorry please dont ban me) waiting for help!!!
thank you in advance.
@pramodlivz,
Some apps have auto rotation built in, like BSB Tweaks for example.
Do you have a costum rom? and how do you restore to factory default?
Regards,
@Axelman8
thanks bro for your reply.
whats custom rom??
for factory reset i do the following
(start/utilities/default settings)
my phone doesn't have any gsensor for autorotation.
acer e101
processor Qualcomm MSM 7225 528 MHz processor
256MB RAM, 512MB ROM
Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional (major version 2,minor version 004)
there is an option named screen under settings/system
there in orientation there are three options
potrait(default)
landscape(left hand)
landscape(right hand)
when i set it to landscape mode, all the options including my today screen switches to landscape mode. but when someone calls or i try calling someone all the option switches to potrait mode. and it does not switch back. so all i have to do is go back to the above option to switch it landscape mode.
what i want is when i switch to landscape mode the dialer should be viewed in landscape instead of potrait and stayed that way unless i change it to potrait from the setting option.
(hope you'll can understand my need)
I know this doesn't fix the physical problem(if there is one). But it is a quick fix that should take care of it for now. Maybe assign to a hardware key for one button press deployment. Go to freewareppc.com and search for rotate screen 1.1
Normally I would give you a link to click but the moderators won't let me. Sorry.
thank you els777
i have that software. but after a call changing to landscape mode again and again is little annoying. hey acer e101 users, even you all face the same problem? please reply. is there any thread where i can ask for help?

[Q] Portrait screen lock possible?

Hi everyone I got a question here and this might be solved but I searched for a while with no answer
I really like to hold the g tab in bed and do some reading before going to sleep but you know how the auto rotation works and it keeps getting me the wrong orientation when lie in bed holding it at side. If I turn off the auto rotation, it only gives landscape. I understand this won't be a prob for a phone since it's portrait by default. But here for the tablet it's landscape Is there a widget or application can do the trick to lock the screen to portrait?
I am using VEGAn-Tab Beta3 and LaunderPro.
Thanks for everyone's hard working here and I love this place so much!
Look under Settings->display, there should be a setting to ignore the accelerometer. It says auto rotate, I believe.
He's looking for a solution that will make the default orientation Portrait, not landscape. Turning off auto-rotate locks the device to landscape orientation only.

I missed that and strange that they don't have an option to allow one of four orientations to be selected
Bump.
The contacts app appears to be landscape, no matter what.
Am I missing a setting for portrait phone & contact apps?

How to setup/lock gNote to landscape mode?

Hello!
So how can I lock gNote to landscape mode?
With Dell Streak I was used Orientation Lock Widget, with gNote it not work... :
(I use LauncherPro)
Also it would be nice to have the lock screen also in landscape mode...
Thanks!
Ok, I answer to myself. The Widget Locker solve the lock screen"problem".
I also calibrate the screen "upside down" so now the gNote stays landscape easily.
And yes, it´s not the best solution but it works...
I wanted to do some web browsing in landscape the other day while laying in bed and I decided to lock it in landscape, only to discover that it's impossible. I held the phone sideways, waited for the screen to rotate, pulled down the notification bar, and unticked the auto-rotate button. The screen quickly rotated back to portrait just before turning off auto-rotate! So I had to be careful of my orientation while I browsed the web.
I guess this is because they were too lazy to develop landscape homescreen functionality, so they tied up all loose ends that would lead to it.
I use orientation control. It works pretty well. You can also set it to go back to auto when you are done reading and the screen shuts off.

Thank you very much! orientation control seems to work great! wohoo!
Does orientation control also let you put the homescreen into landscape?
I'm currently using dell streak and having landscape for a device this big is one of the best things about it.
I use nova launcher and it has an option in the settings

Rotation Locker works well, you can force "service" mode so it runs in the background and forces everything to landscape, and its free.

making the sidekick 4g an exclusively landscape phone- not avg questions

what's up everyone, put smooth maximus on my sidekick about a week ago and it's been treating me great.
i've been interested in making the phone ONLY use landscape mode, which is possible through the "orientation control" app for our devices. only thing that annoys me about using this apk is that the lockscreen will still fall into portrait mode, and every time you slide the screen up to access the keyboard the screen 'reloads' itself.
i'm a little bit particular with the way my phone runs, and i'm wondering if there is any way to mod the phone to prevent it from reloading the screen when it slides open and whether it is possible to force the lockscreen into portrait.
thanks in advance for the help guys

are you saying that it wont open in landscape even when your holding it that way?
no, it will open in landscape. but the lockscreen is never disabled from portrait mode, and whenever the screen is slid up (even when already in landscape mode) the screen will blink for a second and seemingly reload whatever i'm doing on the phone.

That's odd, iv never had that happen with the stock lockscreen, only with lockscreen replacement apps.

Go into settings and enable auto rotation after you have enabled landscape mode lock with Orientation Control.
That will resolve the issue.

uhhhh, did you read my post? don't tell me to "try reading" when you don't have a grasp of what i'm asking. when did i say anything about not understanding how to use orientation control? i'm asking questions about the lockscreen and about the phone doing this reloading when the keyboard is opened. step off the high horse and learn to read before pompously telling others to...

well this phone was made to be nearly always used in landscape.
Android forces the phone the reload the screen resources with a hinge change. This cannot be changed. Additionally, this can be a source of memory leaks if you write quick and dirty code with globals...
I don't know of any version or mod of the Android OS that does not refresh the screen with a hinge change.
This refresh happens everytime you open and close your device. You only notice it on the lockscreen.

How to lock portrait mode?

I have an HOX AT&T. When I turn off Auto-Rotate while in portrait mode, it always switches to landscape mode. Is there a way to lock it into portrait mode?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
When I turn auto rotate off in landscape mode it forces portrait mode on everything and when I lock it in portrait it locks it in portrait. I am on the AT&T RUU_Evita_UL_Cingular_US-1.82.502 right now. Which version are you running right now?
Just to be clear landscape is wider than taller and portrait is taller than wider.

+1. This app is awesome. You can also use it to force your home screen into landscape if you so desire.

Right. If you long press "Auto" it will run a background service that will force rotation based on the sensor (forcing meaning it will force any apps that don't want to rotate to do so anyway).

The way you describe is how I hoped my phone would work. This is how my Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus works, and I love it. But unfortunately, my HTC behaves oddly.
As for my version number, i couldnt find any version number like yours. Mine is just a plain old AT&T HTC One X, straight out of the box and unmodified.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried this app, and it's not helping. It's just a shortcut for the "Auto-rotate screen" setting, which seems to be defective.
The problem I'm seeing is that whenever I turn OFF auto-rotate, the screen switches to landscape mode and stays in landscape no matter what the screen orientation is. When auto-rotate is ON, there are no issues -- the screen orientation adjusts based on which way I hold the phone as expected.
I've run G-Sensor Calibration in Settings, but to no avail.
I wonder if anyone else is having this issue.

Ahhhh, mystery solved!! It looks like there's an additional "Auto rotate screen" option under the Accessibility menu in Settings. Somehow I had that turned on. And this was screwing with the auto rotate setting under the Display & Gestures menu.
Once I turned it off under the Accessibility menu, all works perfectly now, including the Rotate Locker app.
Thanks.
