Just make a backup using this app to be sure.
However, Zune will update your phone, it doesn't replace stuff.
For example, I've reset my phone 3-4 times and it never replaced my old photos, although the counter is the same

ok...so what if i changed to another phone of the same model... could i still use the original backup?

If not, are there ways to port a backup from one phone to another? (of the same model)

[Q] Can I restore old backup in new phone?

My HTC HD7 has a memory card failure. I return it to factory and now I have the mother board replaced and the phone comes with a new serial no.
Now I have the device with OS version 7004. Is there any chance that I can restore to the system backup that I’ve done during the previous update to 7720?
You've already tried to restore the backup and it failed? Then I think there's no way to restore it =/

Have you tired the old restore file? I was wondering if the restore files are device specific also because I have a new phone but lost the restore file for it. I still have a restore file from an older phone (had to exchange phone because of hardware problems).
Sadly no. The backups are device specific and will not work on other devices. You have to start all over again.
If you use the same windows live ID u used in earlier device, then your contacts will be reupdated. ALso from zune you can view your previous purchase history and reinstall all those apps.

Lost contacts, messages, call logs after installing Froyo 2.2[X10 Mini]

So I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and wanted to update it to Android 2.2 . I searched how to install xRecovery and succesfully installed Android Froyo 2.2 . I followed every instruction for the install but what I think destroyed me was Factory Reset on the xRecovery menu. After I selected it to back up my Android 2.1 it did succesfully so, I then pressed wiped all data BUT I had not backed up anything. Neither contacts nor messages nor calls. So after seeing on my succesfull that I didn't have those things I decided to restore my previous backup, thinking that all my data will return. Here it gets even worse! I selected Restore in the recovery menu and it restarted. But the phone was stuck at the SE logo and no matter if I restarted the phone, it would go there again. So I decided to get the Flashtool and restore my phone and now it has restored Android 2.1 and ALL the apps, notes, calendar events, contacts, messages, call logs are gone. And the worst is I did not even back up anything of these! I want them back so bad! Also xRecovery got uninstalled. Is there anything I can do or should I deal with the fact that I was an idiot and did all these crap? Please if you know a solution that can bring my data back post it now!
Thanks!
Please don't hesitate posting if you know anything about the subject.
I'm pretty sure you're screwed there mate, but for future reference, you should use Titanium Backup. It backs up all your apps, settings, contact information etc. As for messages and your call log, you can use an app called SMS backup, which will backup your call log and your SMS/MMS messages to your gmail account.
If you did a backup from xrecovery, you can restore everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) from your old 2.1 ROM incl. apps and calander and messages and whatever. You just need to reinstall xrecovery (I trust you know how as you've done it before) and go to the backup/restore menu and press restore and your previous backup should appear.
Try restoring it when you have the stock 2.1 ROM because I think sometimes going down doesn't work. Similar thing happened to me when I tried to restore my 2.1 ROM from 2.3 on my X10.

Thanks for your answer mate Well as I said I reinstalled xRecovery after flashing via PC to my old Android 2.1 which I am in now but instead of making a full restore, I selected Advanced Restore and restored the data. As a result, not only did nothing restore to my phone but it got the default settings again, you know when you open it for the first time. So should I risk a full restore or the same thing will happen?

Well, seeing that you know how to restore stock firmware w/ Flashtool, I see no harm in giving it a go. You can always go back if it goes wrong again

Okay I will try it now and I will tell you if it goes perfectly.
EDIT : Oh man it stuck again on the SE logo. Now I am reflashing it and after that xRecovery will be uninstalled. What the hell will I do now to get my data back?

Oh dear. I'm not sure what else you can do because if that was the only backup you made, I don't think much can be done. Maybe someone else might be able to tell you how to reflash your data by unzipping the backup file or something, but I can't really do much unfortunately. Sorry about that
Take this as a lesson. Always (and I do mean ALWAYS) backup data and things when you have to flash a new ROM or anything. Titanium backup is perfect for apps (and free too) and for data, I recommend MyBackup Pro. I've got the paid version, but I think the free version can backup your messages and contacts and all that data. Also, I think Android has the option to backup your contacts as well and bear in mind that MyBackup Pro isn't 100% perfect (e.g. it doesn't work properly if you have no gmail account attached, as I found out when I tried flashing a new ROM to a friend's phone) and that you can never have too many backups (although you do tend to fill the SD card with backups if you do too many ). Another user may be able to help you with retrieving data if you're lucky, but otherwise, you might have to move on as life must keep going on

Nevermind my friend. You helped me enough and thank you for this From now on, I will make sure I backup my files twice. As far as what will I do now, I will try to ask help to unzip my backup so I can get all my data again. Thank you very much, again. If anyone can help me reflash my data that would be grateful.

I have lost my internal storage.

I have the weirdest problem with my s. I plugged in my phone to load some files from work and it only pulled the SD storage partition not the internal phone partition. I unplugged the phone and checked and the phone itself only shows the SD side. I have done everything with the exception of a factory reset but can't get it to show. Now everything runs as it should but can't see the internal.
Plugged the phone in 2 days ago everything was fine. The only hickup I have had with this phone so far is yesterday when I went to the google store it told me I had to add an account. It had been a while since I reset so I restarted the phone and everything seemed fine. But it probably had something to do with this.
Any ideas?
I am completely stock and un modded.
Clear the data in the storage settings.

Thanks can you be more secific please. What is a ruu? If by clear the data on the storage do you mean the cache? on both drives or just the internal?
Thanks
There's is a thread called Shipped Roms over in the development section. Look for the one that corresponds to your carrier. Download it and run on your computer. You must be on stock recovery and have a locked or relocked Bootloader.
T-MobileUS HTC One S running Stock Rooted 2.21.
Thanks but shouldn't I try just a factory reset before I go and reflash everything? For either the phone is new enough I don't need to worry about loosing something important will the stock backup to the SD storage be enough? Just don't want to loose any numbers. Apps and messages aren't that important. Sorry this is a new one for me. Any information will help.
Thanks.

You could try a factory reset first.
If you have a google account enabled, check if your contacts are synchronized with it or not. If synchronized, your contact data will be restored after a factory reset automatically (if automatic synchronisation is enabled) as soon as you enter your personal data again.
You'll find that in -> settings -> account & sync
auto-sync should be on and you should see your Google account below. If not, you should add it, if you don't have one you should sign in.
This also restores your apps after a factory reset.
You can export your contacts as well, you'll fin that in the contacts menu.
And be careful, use only one of the methods. You wouldn't be the first to find his contacts doubled...
1. I will try the data wipe mentioned earlier. Although I did that yesterday. Reset.
2. I will try Factory reset.
3. I will try a flash.
All tonight. Thanks for the help.
Update
After a factory reset it resolved the problem. All my contacts were saved but now only show under the phone panel not the contact panel. But at the end of the day hey you can't win them all. I will just spend the next couple of days moving them over.
Thanks for the help! :good:

A RUU is an EXE (must be run on Windows) which flashes your device with the rom it embed.
Google that: RUU_Ville_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.21.401.10_Radio_1.06s.50.02.27_2_10.08.50.04L__release_271119_signed.exe
1) Run the EXE
2) Follow the instructions
3) Plug your device to the PC
4) Proceed
May take up to 10 minutes
Unfortunately, you have to relock your device before. Don't worry, you can still unlock it after

Can I do a basic phone reset?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591895&page=286
That is the root the phone has. I bought this phone used, but I want to sell it and rebuy the t-mobile version so I can get wifi calling again.
So I want to know if I can do the standard phone reset in the settings option without having to worry about anything. Can I just do it without having to reroot the phone or do anything? I really don't know much when it comes to rooting, so I want to make sure doing a reset via settings wouldn't deroot the phone or brick it.
Thanks.

Ive had a rooted phone for quite some time and i have never used the option to reset my phone in the settings menu.
But if you want the phone back to stock and unrooted you should use SuperSU to fully unroot your phone then do a factory reset/data/and calvic wipe on the phone.

I just want to do a basic reset so someone new can use it. I basically just want to know if it's fine to do the reset in the settings and if it'll leave it rooted.
You can just boot to recovery and do a factory reset and I would also wipe the internal SD card.

The factory reset in settings should work too but you would still want to delete everything on the internal SD too.

[Q] Google isn't synching my contacts.. Help?

Hi there,
So I rooted my Galaxy Note 2, made a backup in case anything went wrong, and then put Cyanagenmod 10.1.2 on it. I have it hooked up to the same google account I did before, but for some reason it's not synching any of the contacts I had. I'm worried I may have had them all stored locally on my phone and I deleted them when I factory reset.. I tried going back to the backup I made but the phone just gets stuck in a boot loop when I do that.. Is there anything I can do to retrieve these contacts? I really need them.

I tried doing a factory reset but It just reboots cyanogenmod. I've heard of applications like "Dr. Fone" made for restoring contacts. Do you think those are viable?
