I have the weirdest problem with my s. I plugged in my phone to load some files from work and it only pulled the SD storage partition not the internal phone partition. I unplugged the phone and checked and the phone itself only shows the SD side. I have done everything with the exception of a factory reset but can't get it to show. Now everything runs as it should but can't see the internal.
Plugged the phone in 2 days ago everything was fine. The only hickup I have had with this phone so far is yesterday when I went to the google store it told me I had to add an account. It had been a while since I reset so I restarted the phone and everything seemed fine. But it probably had something to do with this.
Any ideas?
I am completely stock and un modded.

There's is a thread called Shipped Roms over in the development section. Look for the one that corresponds to your carrier. Download it and run on your computer. You must be on stock recovery and have a locked or relocked Bootloader.

For either the phone is new enough I don't need to worry about loosing something important will the stock backup to the SD storage be enough? Just don't want to loose any numbers. Apps and messages aren't that important. Sorry this is a new one for me. Any information will help.

You could try a factory reset first.
If you have a google account enabled, check if your contacts are synchronized with it or not. If synchronized, your contact data will be restored after a factory reset automatically (if automatic synchronisation is enabled) as soon as you enter your personal data again.
You'll find that in -> settings -> account & sync
auto-sync should be on and you should see your Google account below. If not, you should add it, if you don't have one you should sign in.
This also restores your apps after a factory reset.
You can export your contacts as well, you'll fin that in the contacts menu.
And be careful, use only one of the methods. You wouldn't be the first to find his contacts doubled...
1. I will try the data wipe mentioned earlier. Although I did that yesterday. Reset.
2. I will try Factory reset.
3. I will try a flash.

After a factory reset it resolved the problem. All my contacts were saved but now only show under the phone panel not the contact panel. But at the end of the day hey you can't win them all. I will just spend the next couple of days moving them over.

A RUU is an EXE (must be run on Windows) which flashes your device with the rom it embed.
Google that: RUU_Ville_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.21.401.10_Radio_1.06s.50.02.27_2_10.08.50.04L__release_271119_signed.exe
1) Run the EXE
2) Follow the instructions
3) Plug your device to the PC
4) Proceed
May take up to 10 minutes
Unfortunately, you have to relock your device before. Don't worry, you can still unlock it after

Just had to let it be known. After trying this RUU several times trying to get the wifi to work. I finally figured out why it was not working. I did the following:
Download the RUU.
Install the RUU on you computer.
Run the RUU and allow your phone to reset itself.
Once up and running do a "FACTORY RESET" and erase "EVERYTHING" from your storage card...pics and all data.
If you don't your card will store information about the old wifi settings for some reason and the fix won't work.
So if you don't mind loosing all of you pics and data this fix does work.
I just transferd all of my pics to my computer and did a complete wipe of the sd card after installing the RUU.
So do master reset and click the option that says "erase all pics and data from card" that date that its removing is old data about your old wife settings that stay on the card even after installing the RUU for some reason.
This worked for me and now I have all five bars of wifi even as far out as the garage of my house.

Either way, Shouldn't this be in the general section since it's not really anything developed/programmed? Not gunna try it. Seeing as my phone works fine since I sit next to my router.
Or you could root, wipe, and re-flash,, and no workarounds don't belong in DEV. This basically says deleted your SD card,, but fact of the matter is, pictures and whatnot have nothing to do with this (if it's even a fix or issue). If it's there it's in another folder so it's a bad work around at that.
I also had problems with my wifi after the update, but I did a hard reset and it seems to have fixed it. Knock on wood... Sucks to hard reset but it seem to be working.

Can you get into the recovery? And are you running a custom recovery?
If you can get into your recovery(cwm or twrp) you can plug it into usb and mount it as usb storage.

Just fix the bootloop. Sounds like you gave up on it. Can you get into the bootloader? Hold volume down and power. Till the device shuts off. Then redo that method and poof. Hboot. If you can. What hboot version are you on?

Just rooted HTC One S TMOUS using Hasoon 2000's tool. tried CWM backup of rooted stock, then followed instructions for PA 2.52 + gapps. Got stuck on PA boot screen. Won't boot all way up.
Phone will only boot into recovery. adb reboot bootloader goes into recovery. can't get into hboot to restore stock using RUU.

did anyone solve this? I have an unbranded unrooted HTC One S that is also stuck in a bootloop. I was just scanning the WIFI networks from settings and then the phone started looping by itself and only stopped after the battery was empty.
The phone is not modified in any way. I can get into hboot with power-volume down but then what? I don't really feel like doing a factory reset. Is there any other way out? Does the factory reset help?

Ya seen someone say that not sure if it was you but also some people have found having to many saved hotspots can also send you into a bootloop.
in my case for sure it was the google account cause i did factory reset, and had no saved hotspots and still it happened when i switched the wifi on\off after the factory reset(i mead got into boot-loop and needed a factory reset).
it is a serious bug\problem - i can't believe this can happen because of such a silly configuration.
the OS of HTC is not stabled at all!
If your bootloader is locked, then you dont have too many options re getting information off of your phone. Someone else may be able to post ideas. A factory reset may be your only option..
If you have already unlocked your bootloader, my suggestion would be to flash the latest TWRP Custom Recovery (google it). You can connect to your computer via usb through TWRP and access your sd card to get pictures, videos etc off of it.
Through TWRP you can also have access to adb.exe (ie using adb.exe commands and not just fastboot.exe commands, and thereby access all sorts of adb related commands (backups, linux shell, etc).
In order to actually fix the bootloop, well, usualy I find this is due to issues with the Kernel and custom ROM you are flashing (either one or the other), and so would reflash whatever worked before (ie a previous ROM or previous kernel).
But if this is all happening on a device you have not rooted nor flashed anything custom... Well, then that is a good question!

Ya I'm not saying what you said is wrong or didn't work for you but I do think I could be right about kongo09 and Bond246 issue since it did happen when dealing with wifi and seen a few people say the same thing.
I am in a bootloop. What i did to get the phone start is just press first down volume button then power button (keep holding them until the phone goes oof). Inmediatily when the phone go off, stop pressing anything. ANYTHING, BE FAST, and it will boot normally. I am now tryying to get the stock recovery to avoid this sht.

Did the factory reset make you lose all your data? As in: pictures etc? I have read varying stories regarding this, some say you lose it all, some say you don't.
I have some recordings of interviews on there that I really(!!!) cannot lose. Does anyone know if HTC has the possibility to recover files from a phone in this condition?

If you unlocked the bootloader then you could flash TWRP which will let you mount SD for the PC.

Unfortunately not... Unrooted, stock bootloader and all... I spent all day reading threads on different forums, but so far it seems that there is no other solution to this bootloop problem than just doing a factory reset. But like I said, I have some very important recordings on my phone and before I give up on them I want to make sure I tried everything.
If anyone knows of a way to root and flash a new bootloader without wiping all my data in the process, that would be highly appreciated.
Or if anyone knows whether it is possible to somehow approach the storage (maybe through Linux) while the phone is bootlooping (not normally recognized by computer).
But also: I would very much like to hear from people who have done a factory reset from the stock boot loader: has it wiped just your apps and app data? Or has it wiped your files as well (photos, music, recordings etc)?
Like I said: any info would be much appreciated...

Not much you can do then because even unlocking could wipe SD.
Not sure if its possible with a locked bootloader but you may want to try getting into your bootloader then try typing fastboot boot <working kernel file>
Replace the phrase "<working kernel file>" with a stock boot.img that you know works.
As you can see this command is different from fastboot flash boot <working kernel file>.
This may get you out of the bootloop if you had kernel issues, and may allow you to load a kernel temporarily. Not sure if it works on locked bootloaders but it might.
If all you can access is the bootloader and fastboot, then you really have to play around with fastboot commands. See http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Fastboot for the list.

Stock bootloader, same bootloop scenario - factory reset wiped everything including photos, music, other files. Clear storage seems to keep everything except the installed apps and configuration. It's the 4th time I'm doing it unfortunately :
Ok, let me start by saying that I fully expect that I screwed something up, but here goes...
My 4G had stopped working and I decided now was the time to root and unlock my phone, since Verizon recommended a factory reset to fix the 4G issue. I rooted and unlocked my Jelly Bean OTA using this great thread and installed Titanium Backup to get a full backup of everything. I ran the factory reset (that was probably how I screwed something up) and (I think) reran the root and unlock steps (maybe didn't need to). Then, I restored everything using Titanium (pro version). No surprise really that 4G still didn't work (subsequent new SIM took care of that issue).
But, even with the "bad" SIM and the new "good" 4G-capable SIM, I'm not receiving ANY notifications for my apps. Nothing for Gmail or Google Voice. In fact, those apps actually seem to require opening them and pressing on the refresh icon to actually receive new emails/text messages. I have everything set to autosync and to provide notifications.
Any idea what I screwed up and how I can fix it? Since I've got a good backup of everything on an external microSD card, I'm wide open to suggestions here.

That sounds sketchy. It doesn't sound like you did anything incorrectly. Here are my suggestions...
Make sure your Google account is set to sync
In recovery, clear cache and dalvik cache In recovery, under advanced, fix permissions
If all that doesn't work, I may try another full factory reset. Then in TiBu only install apps (without data), and then restore only select app's data individually.

This exact thing happened to me. I was stressing out big time - even thought it was the ROM I was running that was messing things up. I was constantly sending myself test emails and waiting to see if they would be pushed to my phone (GMAIL).
The problem was my Titanium Backup Restore. If possible, do a factory reset of your phone - with whatever ROM you like. Before restoring your apps and data, try manually adding your gmail account and send some test messages. I'd be willing to be you will receive push notifications.
If so, try restoring your backup but uncheck and gmail related items. This solved my problem - let me know how it works for you!
I got antsy before I was able to see these messages and went ahead and flashed back to full stock. Verified all notifications are working correctly, and proceeded with all the OTA updates to get me back to Jelly Bean. Now, I'm going to re-root and unlock. I'll restore selectively on apps and not restore Gmail or Google Voice, though it really did seem like ALL notifications were somehow stopped.
I'll post back with my results.

You will remain on the same ROM, retain root and your bootloader will still be locked :thumbup:

after the install successfully worked, i chosed to wipe. it was stuck and i used the powerbutton to reload device.
when the device turned on it used emulated storage which means no imei and no efs.
using the twrp (in recovery mode) i can see my full data and efs files.
when i am trying to rewipeqinstall update i get this error: "E:/Unable to mount /cache"
please help me.

Do not turn the device off while clearing the cache.
Reboot to recovery, go to TWRP settings and enable rm -rf option, go back and wipe the cache/dalvik. If THAT doesn't work, you will need to flash the cache.img from the factory image found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
After you do that, make sure you have the latest version of TWRP installed (2.6.3.4) If you don't you can also choose to install that via ADB before clearing the cache.

2. If you installed the drivers correctly and that is the correct directory for the file on your computer, that is right! I put mine on the desktop for simplicity.
clearing cache/dalvik is very slow on N5, I found, and so is resetting the phone in recovery. though the progress bar may not move the process isn't stuck, it's still going on in background.

Flash the newest version of TWRP. The issue is fixed.

What should one do if fastboot flash cache doesnt fix it? im having same issue and i have tried restoring stock, flashing cache, etc. still no imei showing in settings and sim doesnt get reconized. Hangouts fc, google search fc and i cant access sd card in windows or the phone.

I guess me and you are screwed I tried every suggestion on the forums but nothing works I'm just gonna RMA mine and pray that Google doesn't say its my fault I wish someone could help us I gotta send mine off as fast as possible im already looking at two weeks minimum for the RMA so every day I wait is just more time I won't have a phone thanks

yeah i have a rma out for mine. Luckly i have a spare phone (its a damn $15 go phone) but mine is already shipped. biggest issue is the $440 is tied up in my account until they get the bad phone back. basically i would suggest to anyone that if they are going to flash a rom first thing they should do is back up their efs to their pc and also some sort of could (dropbox, drive, mega, box, etc).

Well in our case I have my efs on my PC from weeks ago restoring it doesn't fix whatever the ROM changed lol
Hi, I've been meaning to write this since 2016 or 2017, I think, butI think I can still remember all the important details of this crisis...
So I had rooted this 'Galaxy Avant' phone originally so I could disable/remove the extra stuff of the systems' in the hopes of improving the phones' performance, but I didn't change the OS from whag metropcs gave me at that time. I also had a password and/or a pin lock on both the sd card, startup, and internal memory. Everything was okay until I ran into a wifi issue where it wasn't connecting to a semi-public wifi hotspot, so I thought if I cleared the wifi apps' cache the issue would go away. Trouble was I didn't know that the wifi cache wasfor some reasin the same as the system's cache, and a few seconds after clearing it, my phone crashed, and continued to restart itself. So I panicked and tried removing the password/pin locks for easier backup to recovery/resetting. Well the external sdcard managed to decrypt, but when I proceeded to attempt the same for the device, it decided to factory reset itself.
I lost nearly everything from that event. I did periodic backups to the sd card but not daily and since that phone was also responsible for my own memory retention, at least a month or two of my soul is still missing. Any new contact, commitment, itinerary, life decision, goal, deadline, or other important note from that time was wiped and can't be found anywhere else, and I still don't know who else is or was affected from this (especially if I had just made their acquaitance).
So all that to say I must get this device back to how it was before the cache-wiping incident. The phone hasn't been turned on since, except to dump the system image onto my linux desktop. With testdisk I can see what I assume are the deleted partitions from before the factory reset, but I don't know how to undelete+decrypt them and/or copy them back to the device. Please tell me honestly that there's a way to do this, and what that way is. My functioning really depends on it...

I did periodic backups to the sd card but not daily and since that phone was also responsible for my own memory retention, at least a month or two of my soul is still missing. Any new contact, commitment, itinerary, life decision, goal, deadline, or other important note from that time was wiped and can't be found anywhere else, and I still don't know who else is or was affected from this (especially if I had just made their acquaitance).
So all that to say I must get this device back to how it was before the cache-wiping incident. The phone hasn't been turned on since, except to dump the system image onto my linux desktop. With testdisk I can see what I assume are the deleted partitions from before the factory reset, but I don't know how to undelete+decrypt them and/or copy them back to the device. Please tell me honestly that there's a way to do this, and what that way is. My functioning really depends on it...

Go to Sammobile .com or samsung-updates .com, enter your model number in their search feature to find your stock firmware. If you can find the firmware, you can use Odin to flash the firmware to restore the device to normal function.

Thanks, but the device already functions normally; it reset itself to factory defaults, after all.
I just want to be able to restore the device to as it was before the accidental cache wipe—apps as they were, files, and all...

Oh, you mean you want to recover your lost data. All I can say is try some data recovery software on PC, there isn't any guarantee that it will work though. Data recovery on android is not very reliable.
