My understanding is that the Tegra 2 based systems struggle with high profile h264 video decoding, like the kind popularly used in HD video around the internet, and I don't mean Youtube. With Diceplayer and its hardware acceleration, I'm able to play 1080p High profile L4.1 HD video on my Sensation, looks absolutely amazing on the qHD screen.

Yeah, I think that's because it lacks the NEON instruction.
To the OP, if you want to get a basic idea of what the MSM8x60 can do, read this. There's also a pdf you can download on this site that gives it a more in depth look.

All that once we have a updated firmware till then is as good as a single core with tethering.
Being sensational while waiting for 2.3.4 update to cool things down a bit...
This CPU is great for keeping stuff moving. I can listen to Pandora while using maps and its smooth, then the phone rings and there's no lag, and it keeps things responsive. So that's it, the dual core snapdragon keeps things moving and it does one hell of a job at it.

+1 this phone looks ridiculous. I just hope it feels better than the thunderbolt.
LG typically makes mediocre phones at best, at least in my experience.
According to most of the reports this thing is insanely fast. I for one am picking one up plus its running stock android and so far all the "g" series phones have large development communities.

not sure to be honest, but if you use Vplayer, you should'nt have an issue playing almost anything.
Why?i thought we had the better gpu? In reading the galaxy 2 is in the 40s stock, and I got 25fps not overclocked... I guess I could try the test at 1.2 ghz but that wouldn't put me in the 40s...
So how come the sgs2 beats the g2x by a lot when were supposed to have a better gpu? Sensation gets what we get and it has way more pixels...

there is no standard across the different chips... some gpu's can produce shapes or run executions that other chips cannot... try playing monopoly classic on your g2x... you cant because it requires a snapdragon chip to produce certain textures a certain way yet our phones are way more powerful than the mt4g which runs the game fine...
this is also why companies like gameloft have to produce different versions of their games for different phones... its next to impossible to accurately benchmark phones yet...

Hes right.theres a video where they both play 1080p in the browser and g2x skips and the sgs2 plays beautifully..
That's because the SGS2 supports the NEON instruction set, which accelerates video decoding. The latest Flash Player takes advantage of this and uses the phone's GPU to accelerate decoding Flash video. The Tegra 2 doesn't support NEON, so it has to be done using the phone's CPU, which is why it's choppy.

G2X can't even play 720p flash video. They need new flash player version.
Okay not sure where to have put this, but since my wife & I have these phones (I use the Galaxy S), I'm wondering if you guys can help me decide here.
I currently use the Galaxy S (rooted) and it works nice for me. I love the photo quality and nice screen, even though seems a bit bright regardless of settings.
But using my wife's phone (Sensation - NOT rooted yet), the Sensation just feels better to me for some reason?!? I'm not too sure how the photo quality is, but I do like that it has a flash & led notification.
So basically I'd like to get some opinions on people who actually root their phones, not the opinion of an everyday android user who doesnt root.
What are the pros & cons?? Because if I want to, I can just give her the Galaxy S and I'll take the Sensation.
Well the sensation is dual core with a better resolution. I prefer sgs4g though for the screen.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Sensation for sure
Look for screen filter in the market, you can lower the screen brightness more than the stock minimum settings.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Sensation for sure. SGS4G is good for what it is, but Sensation is in another league. Especially if you like flashing a variety of ROM's.
If you want led notifications root and flash the bali kernel it lets you use bln (download in market) it turns the the bottom buttons into a notification light
Sent from my galaxy s 4g using XDA app
Thanks for input guys.
I dont have the Bali kernel, but may consider it.
I guess I'm just over the Vibrant/Galaxy feel?!?
I see my wife's Sensation and it feels sturdier to me, plus the fact that it is dual-core, I would assume would let me do more with less lag right? I always seem to be using my phone for surfing or streaming on wifi that may demand a lot from the phone.
I think I'm gonna just swith with her.

Definitely Sensation. G2x doesn't have a qHD plus it's .3'' smaller.
The G2x just has far too many hardware problems and such that I have read. The Sensation's development will now boom with the emergence of CM7.
Plus you'll get a variety of ROM's that you won't get on the G2x, mainly you'll have the option of Sense 3.0 ROM's which the G2x doesn't have of course.
Plus the Sensation has 50% more RAM than the G2x if you like playing heavy games.

Use bricked kernel to make fruit ninja and other games work like they should.
I also want to recommend you flash Gingerbread Sense 3.5 (2.08.401.1) that has much better adreno driver than sense 3.0 and also don't have that fps limitation which make games like fruit ninja choppy and laggy.
Exynos is more powerful, yes. But there's no reason why your phone can't handle Fruit Ninja. I play it all the time with no issues.
Sensation would have given a performance close to GS2 if it was not qHD... Gs2 is not qHD..
Everything runs in high resolution on this phone... That's why Sensation has 25% less performance... But overall Sensation has sharper display compared to GS2...
Gs2 icons looked very soft compared to Sensation
Add to that, Sense UI is more CPU consuming...

Holiday Comparison
Over the holidays a buddy of mine brought his new rooted GS2 over. We swapped phones to check them out. The GS2 was wicked fast and smooth scrolling and entering various apps. Entering apps like picture galleries was almost instant, which was cool. Connecting to the internet was faster on my Sensation and Sense 3.5 makes Touch Wiz look childish. The build quality of the SG2 was CRAP!!! The phone felt really cheap. And as for looks, no contest. Even iPhones look better. I was considering getting The Galaxy Note(mainly for the screen size), but not anymore. .

GS2 is more powerful, plain and simple. The Exynos processor is way better than ours, A9 architecture vs. custom A8, and it's synchronous vs asynchronous. The GPUs are both very good. The GS2 CPU is what gives it the advantage.
People are overblowing the resolution difference. Yes, it makes a bit of a difference, but not as much as raw horsepower. The Galaxy Nexus has a way higher resolution than the GS2 but it manages to perform about as well (and also better than the Sensation).

Yeah, the Galaxy Nexus doesn't do as well on the Sensation on benchmarks. The PowerVR SGX540 is outdated and they underclocked it too I believe. Just compare the NenaMark 2 scores and you'll see the difference.
Everything is stock , no overclocking or anything like that
Is that a surprise? isn't sensation better than Nexus? or am i wrong?

Pikabat I axpected more from you =\ as you can see in the benchmark the nexus have much better CPU (the blue stat) and sensation only have better I/o (the green one) which is obvious why... So no, sensation isn't faster...

Sorry to disappoint you bro
Believe it or not I prefer higher I/O because I deal with large file transfers.
Benchmark may not be accurate 100% but I used both devices and Sensation is faster. For me anyways

Its inflation. Quadrant is notorious for this. R/RW speed between the current devicesis pretty much the same, especially when they are all on custom ext4 partitions .. Hence why you can run 4 benchmarks and get 4 different scores .. notice the CPU and graphics numbers don't really flux to much...
Hate to break it to you bro. But the Sensation will never be faster than a GNex or any SGS 2 version. Don't get me wrong I love the device. But it is what it is..

I tried a galaxy nexus...is very very very laggy, is not even smooth or fast...
our sensation is the best smartphone of the dual core generation (we are switching now on quad generation), better than sgs2 too!....

Who gives a F**k.
We have what we have, be happy! Its not about the size of your e-penis, its the fleshy one that counts.
Enjoy
you all realize that quadrant is only good for comparing devices with the same screen resolution, right?
The Gnex is running at a much higher resolution and becuase of that the scores will be lower in Quadrant.
Quadrant runs at the phones native resolution so the gnex has to work harder... I cant believe people still use this as their proof....
