Nenamark 2 is out, and the sgs2 smokes us - T-Mobile LG G2x

Why?i thought we had the better gpu? In reading the galaxy 2 is in the 40s stock, and I got 25fps not overclocked... I guess I could try the test at 1.2 ghz but that wouldn't put me in the 40s...
So how come the sgs2 beats the g2x by a lot when were supposed to have a better gpu? Sensation gets what we get and it has way more pixels...

lets get real, whatever is released today was obsolete last month.

there is no standard across the different chips... some gpu's can produce shapes or run executions that other chips cannot... try playing monopoly classic on your g2x... you cant because it requires a snapdragon chip to produce certain textures a certain way yet our phones are way more powerful than the mt4g which runs the game fine...
this is also why companies like gameloft have to produce different versions of their games for different phones... its next to impossible to accurately benchmark phones yet...

Just saying that every device out there is better than ours in some way and in some ways ours ia better. No one will ever make a device that trumps everyone. If so it would be a small market and cost 600 at least on contract.

Hes right.theres a video where they both play 1080p in the browser and g2x skips and the sgs2 plays beautifully..

That's because the SGS2 supports the NEON instruction set, which accelerates video decoding. The latest Flash Player takes advantage of this and uses the phone's GPU to accelerate decoding Flash video. The Tegra 2 doesn't support NEON, so it has to be done using the phone's CPU, which is why it's choppy.

+1 this phone looks ridiculous. I just hope it feels better than the thunderbolt.
LG typically makes mediocre phones at best, at least in my experience.
According to most of the reports this thing is insanely fast. I for one am picking one up plus its running stock android and so far all the "g" series phones have large development communities.

this phone has been widely anticipated and score higher benchmarks than the Galaxy S II so I'm sure it'll have a large following and therefore more development. As for the screen, the only thing I know is that its a 4" WVGA. Some other features include:

-4G Speeds
-Dual core Nvidia Tegra 1GHz

Quadrant: 1st 3d test low framerate?

I've noticed that all the 3d tests get very high framerates around 60fps or higher except for the first one, which gets 18-19 fps. Does anyone know why?
P.S. my mytouch 4g gets around 18fps on the 1st 3d test so the g2x should definitely be getting much higher frame rate for that test.

are you talking about neocore? because thats around the score people are getting for neocore.
But for quadrant on the 1st of the 4 3d tests people(including myself) are only getting about 18-19 fps on that test, which seems outlandish since most other phones that have older less powerful gpu's can get the same frame rate on that test

Being sensational while waiting for 2.3.4 update to cool things down a bit...
This CPU is great for keeping stuff moving. I can listen to Pandora while using maps and its smooth, then the phone rings and there's no lag, and it keeps things responsive. So that's it, the dual core snapdragon keeps things moving and it does one hell of a job at it.

mt4gs vs. g2x

if you are talking benchmarks then yes, but just try to do some actual stuff and you'll see the difference. i repeat, tegra 2 has issues even with 480p youtube videos which is RIDICULOUS for a dual core processor (it lacks NEON instructions, lol). it is highly likely that we will have both official ICS and CM9 ICS, but nothing is confirmed and we could always get the short end of the stick and get none.

I HIGHLY recommend not getting a G2X. I went through 2 different G2X phones and had software issues with both of them. There was seriouse development issues with the LG G2X and was a nightmare trying to get the issues resolved. (they never were resolved and I ended up selling the phone on EBAY) LG and T-Mobile never wanted to take responsibility for the hardware/software flaws and never really publicly acknowledged the issues. It seems like they even went as far as taking the phone off their shelves for a couple months in the summer due to the poor quality control. Just read the reviews on T-Mobile's own site, it's a garbage phone.
Save yourself time and trouble and get anything else other than a G2X.

I'm sorry but that's a joke... Stock un-rooted AT&T SGS2 destroys any ROM/kernel combo on the G2x. SGS2 launcher is hardware accelerated and is smooth as butter. Also, the browser is superb... Best in the market IMO, even better than ICS browser. And it plays HD video playback on the browser well, unlike the choppy-ness of the G2x. Either way, 1GB of RAM + Exynos craps on the Tegra 2 with 512mb's.
But with that said, I'm still relatively happy with the G2x. Does its job.

Why does the launcher matter? Most people use a replacement, like Go Launcher, Launcher Pro, ADW, etc. I personally use Go.
Again, browser? That just means bad program. No choppy videos on my device, I use Dophin Browser

He is right though, I don't see why they used the S3 on the T-Mo SGS2, my phone with Eaglesblood and Trinity at 750 mhz feels as smooth as my step dads SGS2 stock at 1200 mhz. I think what Samsung has dubbed the cheaper version of the SGS2, aka the Galaxy R, will have tegra 2, and probably actually beat the SGS2 in terms of processing speed. I don't know though, I'm no expert when it comes to phone processors.

I've never played with the actual stock AT&T S2 though, I'll take your word for it that it's fast though, pretty sure it doesn't crap on the G2x though.
Maybe you're just not running the most optimal ROM/kernel combo .
My phone feels smooth as butter with Eaglesblood 2.3.7 v2.8 and Trinity ELP underclocked to 750mhz, and get amazing battery life.

Everything about the SGS2 is smooth. You'd have to try it for a while to see.

+1 on this the SGS2 is a beast! I was super impressed with it when I played with it to root it and install custom roms on it for my boy... but still love my g2x flavored by x0xHELLx0x ICS!! or even his CM7 flavor! They both rock the g2x's face off!
