[Q] 3D video to 2D - LG Optimus 3D

just wondering are there any programs that can convert a 3D video into a 2D video...not looking for Premiere or After Effects type things where I'd have to resize and stuff. Just an easy program where I can select either left or right image and convert to 2D..

not tried it, but this may be able to
http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stvmkr/
the photo version easily saves 3d to 2d

Don't think there is such a converter available as there are quite a few types of 3D movie available. Some of those just can't be convert back to 2D movie in an easy way. The only one that I can think of which might had a chance for conversion is the steroscopic 3D using Vegas Pro 10. But that is more a movie editing software and is not cheap or easy to use.

I don't see why not, only anaglyph displays 3D using a 2D image so cannot be converted back. All other formats have two unique 2D images so to convert back to the 2D you just throw away the additional image.
There are even 2D glasses for the cinema that do this, so you can go see a 3D film with your friends even if 3D gives you a headache, you just see it in 2D.
I have never done this myself but for a side by side video file you would simply crop the image, so you have just the left half, then encode it as a new video file (or if its Half-SBS you will have to also resize it width wise back to the original aspect ratio).
Its going to be messy, as it will always be a lossy process but it should be relatively simple to do in most good editing software. Although personally I rarely edit videos so I have no idea what would qualify as good editing software, just that it can be done.

OK, try the freeware I linked to above, I just tried it, it can convert 3D to 2D, PLUS, it even converts anaglyph to 2D or side-by-side 3D!! (didn't think it was possible, but just tried it and it works!)
screenshot, on left is video I downloaded from youtube playing in VLC, on right, same image loaded into the software, left and right image at top and interlaced image at bottom

Well of COURSE its possible to convert anaglypth too, but its not possible to convert it at good quality so I would never consider it worthwhile. Converting SBS however will be almost as good quality as the original.

Wow that's cool I gonna try it out

great discovery, gonna give it a go myself...thanks

(I thought the same!)
That wasn't the point anyway, I was getting at the software can even convert anaglyph so can easily do SBS

Yes, I could have been clearer as obviously I meant it can't be converted back to a clean 2D version, just as it can't be converted to a clean SBS version either.
Anaglyph just sucks period, always did, and I didn't actually think anyone would bother to try to be honest. The example above says it all, poor quality with awful colours.
SBS on the other hand can convert back to 2D perfectly, you wouldn't even know the difference unless someone told you.
I should shut up now before I look any more foolish.

which one is better?

hello
which one of these softwares is better?and why?
"SPB Mobile DVD" or "pocket dvd studio" or "pocket dvd wizard"
thanks
I have not tried SPB's product, but I am using Pocket DVD for Palm for my HTC Universal. Basically the avi movie files can be played on both my Palm (Sony TH55/E1) and Pocket PC device (HTC Universal/O2 Exec) without any problems. The quality and sound of the pictures are great. I have no skipping whatsoever. There are a few types of DVD that I notice it can't convert though, the ones made by Walt Disney Pictures. I believe it has some sort of copy protection for softwares like these. It has no problem converting cartoons, both computer generated and animated. It has a slight dificulty converting Animated Cartoons created by Japan (ANIME) on fast scenes like "NARUTO", but the quality is still there. You will notice a slight choppiness on play back. It has no trouble converting US made cartoons though, like "The Avengers", "Iron Man", etc... It takes about 2 hours to convert a 2 hour DVD. Even a child can convert a DVD, as long as you got the combination of settings right for you, all you have to do is put the DVD on and press start. Wait for it to finish, and you're set. It supports a VARIETY of PDA screen sizes, so it is up to you to choose the right screen size.
I also own Makayama's DVD to PPC converter. I HIGHLY ADVICE NOT TO TRY THAT ONE. THEIR SUPPORT SUCKS!!!!!!! IT IS LIKE PAY NOW AND NO SUPPORT LATER. THEIR PRODUCT IS HARD TO USE FOR A NEWBIE LIKE MYSELF. THEIR CLAIM IS THEY CONVERT DVDs FAST AND PACKED INTO A SMALL AMOUNT OF MEMORY, BUT THEY NEVER MENTIONED IT ALSO SHORTENS THE SCENES LIKE SOMETHING WAS DELETED OR LEFT OUT.
Maybe others can tell you how SPB works.
Enjoy watching...

spb mobile dvd is nice and easy to use.
And yes, Makayama's support sucks. The best I have found is "pocket dvd wizard"
pocketdivx encoder is just the best:
-it's freeware
-it has all important features
-it supports 2pass encoding --> better image quality
what do you think about "pocket dvd studio"?
please opine!

Share your 3D photos and videos taken with the O3D here

OK, thought I'd start this thread off for those with the phone and those about to get it.
Photos: don't link/upload to the MPO or JPS files as they will display in 2D, you need to upload them to somewhere like dropbox (public folder) and then copy a public link and paste that on here.
Videos: Upload to youtube and put the link here.
I've enjoyed going through the Evo 3D thread for their photos and videos, hopefully we can get a decent thread going here too.

hehe..nice..
i have this phone for 2 days now, and 3D photos are excellent...
only thing is the resolution issue with 3D photos... 3D videos can be 480p, 720p, you can adjust it in settings menu, but what is the resolution of 3D photos? you can't change settings of 3D photos...

Found new amazing function in Optimus 3D!

Found this Video review. It has a picture in picture functionality. looks really great!
Too bad the sound recording sounds like robotvoice.
The HTC EVO3D has much better audio recording. Strangely the HTC Sensation doesn't.
lol oh my god
Am I missing something or doesn't every phone with video have the ability to look at a tv and watch what is on it? Not really PIP That is just taking video of your TV. Or am I just not getting it?

True, but doesn't mean it can do better. Lets face it. LG wants us to make as much as 3D movies to watch on the screen or 3D lcd tv. So software and hardware should be as good as possible (within budget). And in my opinion audio and video could be slightly better.

Agreed but it does seem as if they are working on it? latest update seems to address problems with 1080p 2D recording and with 3-party apps pictures get better from what I've heard, meaning it's "doable" and LG has probably worked their asses of getting 3D as good as they can, getting my phone later this week but from what I hear everyone is impressed with the 3D and compared to the Evos 3D the LG stands in a class of it's own.
Curious comment as all the previews I read said the EVO kicked the Optimus 3Ds ass for photo and video quality.
Also the video shot on the preview Optimus 3D units did not suffer the poor video quality of the V10b firmware, so that wasn't a factor in those previews.
I do hope the O3D kicks the EVOs ass though, seeing as I bought the O3D. ;-)

Can't watch any movie at all

Two weeks ago I hard bricked my LGP920 (firmware update screen) and last week I got a replacement through LG's 24-hour service, but the phone has had a problem from the beginning: I can't play any videos. At least not properly.
I haven't rooted my device, it's running on T-mobile and version v10d.
When I record a video and try to watch it it simply says "can't play video"
The 3D videos that were on the phone were all green and blocky
Youtube videos are also green and blocky.
It doesn't matter whether they're in 3D or 2D
The strange thing is:
I can make pictures, watch pictures, make the videos themselves, play games, do whatever all without any problems.
When recording a video I can see the preview just fine, the playback is broken though...
Sometimes the video recorder (stock) crashes to homescreen right after pressing "stop recording"
I've tried the LG software update, it didn't make any difference.
I've also tried resetting to factory settings from android's recovery menu, no luck.
I cant suggest an answer but I can say that the problems you describe often happen on computers where it needs a specific video codec installed and maybe something is missing on the phone you have.
You could try playing videos with a different player and see if they then play properly, if they do it would suggest a problem specific to the video player I think but other than clearing its cache from the phones settings I cant suggest a solution.

I agree with you that it looks like a codec problem.
I've tried the stock media player, the youtube app and the ES File browser media player. All act the same.
I forgot to mention this:
Sometimes the video recorder (stock) crashes to homescreen right after pressing "stop recording"
Sometimes, very rarely, I manage to record a video that does play, but it will be a black screen with only the sound...
Have you tried resetting it to factory settings? Worth a try before trying to get a replacement best of luck!

I just tried recording a video and playing it on my computer.

The file is 52MB.
So you don't know the solution?
Thats what vlc looks like when playing a low resolution video that it cannot decode properly, which is odd as the picture should be much bigger. If on vlc you go to the menus and click the menu option (second menu from right I think) that says media information it will show you the resolution and codecs used.
It will at least help determine if its a codec (on phone) problem or a recording malfunction. Was the video high definition or 3D?

Camera Alternatives

Since everyone knows how bad the stock camera is on the phone, let's recommend some camera apps to help everyone out.
I love taking pictures, except I only used the 3D for 3D photos. Almost a bit embarrassed to take 2D ones, but now I'm happily taking photos all the time with a few camera apps.
My favorite is definitely Camera360 its free and has a lot of different effects that you can apply. I find this camera very helpful because of how vibrant the colors look. Can't find any fault with this app and the pictures it takes are just beautiful. Lots of settings to play around with too. Since its free, feel free to download it, play around with some effects in there and see how you like it.
Next on the list is LittlePhoto. Very simple to use and pictures comes out pretty nicely. Also has a lot of effects to pick. Free also
And then there's Pudding Camera, another free app to try out. This one has a few different cameras you can choose from with individual film you can put into them. One feature I found that some people might like is a camera on here called Panorama. It doesn't take panorama photos, but instead takes them widescreen. So I guess this might be nice for those people who don't like taking 4:3 photos.
Just for fun, here is TattooCam. I guess you can tell by now that its also a free app. Pictures from this app are pretty good and its very fun adding tattoos to people. Looks very realistic and fooled a good deal of people. Whenever I show this camera to friends, we usually have a pretty fun time just placing them on random places.
Well, those are the camera app replacements I use the most. Personal Favorite is Camera360. Anyone who is unsatisfied with the Optimus 3D's stock camera can give these a try. Free apps so no reason not to.
If you have any other recommendations, please recommend. I'm always looking for some good ones, new ones, funny ones, interesting ones to use.
Thanks for sharing.

Where are you pressing settings?
they have settings in two places.
If you press Menu on the homescreen it'll show just 4 things with one being like... "check for updates"
The settings menu i'm talking about is after you press a camera, on the bottom Bar on the right most side is that gear icon for settings.

I can recommend Camera Zoom FX which at the time of posting this is on offer for ten pence (or ten cents in America) until tomorrow. Takes much better pics on my stock gingerbread O3D than any other app I have tried and has some nice handy modes I hadn't really considered before like burst and time lapse.
