dwp rumor - T-Mobile LG G2x

who started the rumor that phones branded with a dwp cannot be updated with kdz firmware updater? has this been confirmed by anyone? i'm just curious if anyone with a p999dwp has updated using either kdz or lgupdate tool.

there have been ppl that have updated that way its the reguler lg update prog that does not work

that's what i thought. i just wanted to squash this rumor. thanks.

I've tried both methods and can't get either to work. What's weird is that the sticker on my phone says DW but when i connect to LG update tool it says i have DWP, and am up to date. Also, if i unplug my phone then update drivers and plug it in, it detects my phone as DW and allows me to start the update. However by the time the LG update tool is checking my phone the computer recognizes it as DWP and tells me my S/W version is not allowed to update and refers me to LG support page.
The KDZ starts working for me but once it gets the the msg dprarm part it shows zero then on the next line that pops up it shows 3000 and doesn't move even it left to sit for a half hour. Tried this over 10 times now. The good news is my phone still works but i just have to wait for someone to figure out the problem or the OTA to be released.

Software Update

According to LG software update should be available. When I go to Mobile support page and select T-Mobile G2x and click on phone software update it has LGP999DW software upgrade available. I've tried t connect the phone with the phone app and check for update and it says no update available?!? Anyone tried that?

The phone model wasn't even listed among the available for upgrade and I just checked the other day....
is this not the lgp999dw?
it is, just downloaded it and it says i already have the lastest software
wait a sec, another windows just opened. my driver is being configurated for my new software.......this better not be just updating my lg driver
after all that it just said my software doesnt need to be updated......
thats laaame
The link to the LG desktop software has been posted at least three times. The first thing it does is install the proprietary LG USB drivers which you mistook for an update. The Gingerbread update might be available from the desktop app at some point but the OTA update function was activated on the phone yesterday leading me to believe it'll be pushed OTA. Both the desktop app and OTA update check show V10f (the version we're running) as the most current. I'd guess that before the update begins being pushed officially it'll leak so we'll know in advance it's coming. I highly doubt someone will just stumble upon it on the LG site waiting to be downloaded without any forewarning.
I have one question. If you except the OTA update what happens to your root? Does it mess up anything? I am just rooted with factory rom.

If I'm not mistaken your going to have to unroot in ordered to get ota.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
as long as you didnt delete anything off of the phone you will get the ota
Couple of newbie questions. When the update is available I don't need to unroot? Also, do I need to unfreeze the apps I froze to get the update?

[FIX] LG-p999dwp upgrade to GB-V21E

Ok I have the LG-P999dwp version, and was in unable to do the update through the lg updater. Was told that i have latest version. I am also running win7 ultimate and the KDZ program would always crash, so i found a work around.
I downloaded the LG kdz program and the V21_00.Kdz file You can get them from here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179750 here are pics to help you do this on a windows 7 ultimate and should work for any version of win 7.
The pictures show you what to do.
1: open the KDZ program ( follow the instructions in the read me )
then keep the cdma and DIAG alone and choose the browse and click on the V21E_00.KDZ file.
Sorry if this has been posted but i searched and could not find anything on how to do this. I was working out a few ways to do this on win 7 without installing win xp
2:Click on read phone information at the bottom of the program.
3:Click on Upgrade Start
4:Change country to different country and change Language to english
5:click ok and this opens up the LG updater and will push the update of GB to your phone on windows 7 machine and for phone with LG-P999dwp model # (aka refurb)
thank you soo much!
Works!!! Just follow the steps exactly. My wife has a p999dwp and I have a p999dw. Ive been trying to get Gingerbread on hers for two days now (the official way). I can now find one complaint about the update, I love it. I haven't used Bluetooth yet though. Thanks so much.
Thanks... Worked perfectly....
Just in case anyone wants to know .... I put my phone back to stock and unrooted before I did the update process.... Everything went smooth, update process took about 10 minutes.. Thanks again Bullseye....
I can't get into S/W Update mode now to flash ClockworkMod ???
EDIT: Never mind...had to try it a bunch of times (volume down and plugging in) before it worked
see my only problem is everytime i try to install the lg updater tool it stops quarter of the way and doesnt move, i have a windows 7
how did u guys get the update tool to install, i run it as administrator and it starts but then stalls quarter of the way? and it told me i had to install the tool , but then i just tryed launching the update and it started the process, of course i didnt try with the phone plugged in, what do u guys think
It doesn't even want to read my phone info....it gives me Get Chiptype Error. Tried with Debug mode too-still nothing. It keeps freezing on me....I am running Win7 Ultimate 64bit.
Anyone else having the same issues. I have all the drivers installed.

yes sir , for sure so sincest your talking about the lg update tool ur telling me i have to install it with the phone actually plugged in?
doesnt really matter, i had it unplugged till the window like the screenshot came up, try reinstalling the 3.x.x drivers from LG theres a thread somewhere and then plug your device in a different usb porn and wait for it all to install
It doesn't work for me guys. Tried reading the phone info as advised-it can't complete the operation. I get the stupid error and nothing happens. Don't know how to go around that error. Tried running the R&D tool in compatabilty mode and still got the same error.
Anyone else having the same issue?

Do you guys click on read phone info button on the second screen as well? That's where I am getting the Chiptype Error. Have you guys tried that? I am afraid if the tool doesn't read the phone info it won't be able to update it properly and I may brick my device. Any advises?
dude i cannot get B2Cappsetup to run! sucks it just stops quarter of the way
Did you install the msi file in the kdz folder... And I only clicked read phone info at the beginning ..

Does it give some kind of an error? What kind of windows are you running?
Try rebooting your PC and reinstalling it... Only thing I did was downloaded the LG updater the other day and reinstalled it ... after it installed I connected my phone and it installed some drivers...

Thanks for this...
It looks like they might be for specific phone models? There's one that's only LG P999, and the other is more specifically for the LG P999DW (T-Mobile) phones...
Going to flash the 2nd one and see what happens .
Well it looks as if I can't update... KDZ won't read my phone and always says port = -1. :/.
As far as I can tell, the only thing updated is the baseband. Fortunately, mine was updated swiftly enough it seems. Didn't get an update notification, just woke up one morning and found my reception improved a bit.

Remove battery, press and hold volume down button, and plug the phone into usb. It should show Software/Update screen within 5 seconds or so. After this the upgrade tool should be able to see it on some port

Nope tried it all. Not an amateur at troubleshooting but now that there's a new baseband, doesn't matter lol.

[Q] OTA Update Fails

Today i get an update OTA
i downloaded it and wanted to update, but in the Update-Screen, the progress failed and my phone reboot
i have rooted my flex2 (h955) and the software recognized it and throw out an error
is there any way to update?
i searched the problem in google, but google doesnt found anything and in the G3 forum stands, that root is no problem with stock recovery and ich have stock recovery
You might have to unroot before doing the OTA update.

There doesn't seem to be one available for the Flex 2 yet on their main site.
*Edit* Software tool downloaded and works fine.

Which one did you get? LG PC Suite 4.3.41? Where from? I can't find it on the LG site for our phones.
count me in the same boat :/
have the sprint version of the phone and woke up this morning to a prompt that there was an android update. with my brain not being awake yet i went ahead and told it to update, not thinking about root preventing the update. So went about my morning routine and came back and the phone was booted back up, but obviously the update didn't apply as i was still on ZV4, not ZV5. when checking for update it says there are no updates available.
can anyone help me/us out and post some steps for how to unroot and reapply the update? i'm good at following directions, just too new to this stuff to be able to figure it out on my own

see provider but no signal
anyone have any tips on forcing the OTA to download again?i've disabled SU, rebooted, and factory reset and it still says i'm up to date when checking for an update. or is there a way to download the OTA and update the phone some other way?
really want to check out this update and see the improvements, just can't get it to go after trying to update this morning while still rooted

I tested all the files and I have no message and signal works perfectly.
woke up this morning to the prompt that there was an update available again, not sure why it does it overnight but won't when i manually check for update..... anyway, i disabled SU, rebooted, then started the update and watched it this time and in the middle of the upgrade it came up with the android guy on his back and it said error. after a bit it restarted again and was back to where i started, no update.
so it looks like i need to unroot. would appreciate any help on how to unroot so i can apply the OTA, thanks!!!!!
Here with a sprint flex 2. First time I tried ota update I was rooted and it failed. A few days later the update notification showed up again, went ahead and unrooted, tried the update and still failed. I'm not sure root has anything to do with update failing now. Could be something else. So far I haven't read about anyone successfully completing update and reporting it.
I was getting the same error message about being rooted even after un rooting the device.
I installed the lg pc suite and upgraded to 10d that way and then re rooted using the method on this forum.
It looks like there may be a flag thats triggered once u root that doesnt get removed even if u unroot it.
ugh! i can't even get my phone to connect to pc suite to try and "fix" it so i can attempt the update

"Your device is suspected in rooting" even though I fully unrooted..

Has anyone had this issue when attempting to do OTA updates?
I had an F510S and I got a prompt to download the V15 software. Upon receiving the message, I unrooted the phone completely using the option in Super SU, even tried a factory reset afterwards..The update will download, restart to go through the installation process, fail, then upon rebooting I would get the message.
The only explanation I can think of is that I uninstalled some of the bloatware that came with the phone using Titanium Backup... does LG check for changes in the system files when doing OTA updates?
I ended up switching over to an H959 rom instead as I realized that I'd need to flash a complete stock rom before trying an OTA update again but it would be nice to know in case I decide to uninstall system apps in the future.
Try updating via LG Pc suit
PC Suite kept saying that I had the latest version available, even though I had a prompt for an OTA update
Exactly the same problem here ! I also think it's caused by the uninstallation of some apps..
Must have all apps from factory bloatware and all. That's the only way i learned the hard way in the past . Flag stock tot
Managed to overcome that by updating using the LGMobile Support Tool. It's like the Sony Update Service but for LG instead.
