Hi all!
I'm detecting this odd issue. LauncherPro has a bad graphic rendering.
There are two screenshot attached, the first comes with launcherpro and the second with sense ui.
Why the shadows in the sense clock widget looks like a single transparent bar instead of the shadow "gradient"? It looks like i've saved the LP screenshot with a web image compression (jpg artifacts or similar)
How can I increase rendering quality in LauncherPro?
P.s: sorry for my crappy english.
(up, please)
are they saved as .png or what file format? Did you check the quality of them before uploading to phone to use on launcherpro? could you duplicate the issue at that time?
Yes, they are saved in png. Quality is the best i could save.
As above in the screenshot, the same widget looks with different image rendering.
It's not caused by image quality, but by LP rendering.
I can duplicate the issue even now.
Sorry, sorry sorry!
Verry OT but... what kind of sense clock widget do you use?
I love it!

That's fancy widget, but I've re-edited the images in the original apk.
If you want that modded version, see attachment
Thx buddy! Looks great!!
I have the exact same problem on my Galaxy S.
With a widget having the best hdpi image quality available I can see in launcherpro that the graphics are like compressed images where in other launchers it is very smooth. I really like Launcherpro but this is an issue for me, a big enough issue to switch to another launcher.
I do see that with the launcherpro widgets the compressed issue is not there...
oh, and when i start to 'scroll' through the homescreen (eg. put your finger on screen and start dragging but stop while maintaining your finger on screen) the graphic quality is smooth again. If you enable high quality on scroll option this behavior is not there...bad quality again...
this also occurs in other launchers, zeam, adw launcher, helix, ... (possibly because they all are based on the same 'source'???)
all expose the same 'behaviour'. The default launcher (on Samsung Galaxy this is touchwiz launcher) the graphics are very smooth.
A workaround for this is apparently to set a livewallpaper as your background.
Any live wallpaper will do to get the nice smooth graphics back.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, that's true. A live wallpaper sets the quality to be smoothly. But in launcher pro they really slow down performances. It doesn't happen with HTC Sense, which it remains smooth.
That's very odd.
Hello everyone
I wanted to try launcherpro and ADWLauncher on my sensation but I noticed that LP appdrawer was laggy when opening.
About adw, that was the scrolling in the appdrawer that was stuttering.
I had the Desire S and it was the same. Is it because of Sense ? Is there any way to fix that ?
Thanks

Hmm mine is opening really smooth and scrolling is too. I'm using ADWLauncher Ex, and set the app drawer to Vertical New. It's really nice that way, even on my gf's SE X10..
It must be a problem with Launcher Pro. It's very laggy on Galaxy S2 too.
Maybe it's because of 2.3.3 ?
Anyway, Go Launcher Ex and ADW Launcher EX are smooth on my Sensation while ADW Launcher (standard) and LP are laggy.
So I'll use Go Launcher
If you like stock android. The gingerbread launcher runs smooth on every phone I've tried it on.

Running launcher pro and it runs very smooth for me
running adw launcher ex, having few lags at times when sliding between screens. Otherwise app drawer smooth as butter.
edit: actually lag is only when using expose or pressing home to return to main screen.

Hello,
Same here with ADW, very laggy on my Sensation, was really smooth on my Nexus One...
So those with alternative launchers like LP pro, or ADW, can you end task the sense launcher? does that free up a lot more ram?
Same situation for me as well, ADW was super laggy when sliding between pages in drawer. Launcherpro was fine for me, golauncher is buttery smooth and I've been using it now as my daily launcher. Launcher 7 is also buttery smooth if anyone wonders.

could you please tell me if it is possible to have transparent text background for icons with golauncher? Thanks
I plan on installing an alternative launcher.
- Can you still use the cool Sense 3.0 widgets like Friendsstream, etc.?
- Is the dialing app still the htc-sense one with smart dialing?
Try GOlauncher. Quick, responsive and very customizable

No, you won't be able to use the Sense widgets. You might find launchers with Sense-like widgets, but the official ones are on the Sense UI only

I've tried digging through the settings for icons, the only available ones are options to hide the icon label. You may have just to try it out yourself, just to make sure.
Been looking for a launcher(still am actually) because I didn't really like the stock version. I tried ADW but for some reason it's quite laggy on my Galaxy Note. FYI, I only have 3-4 widgets at most and mainly shortcuts.
Try adw ex.. No lags for me..
Or change the transition

I actually have ADW EX installed and its really laggy for me..is there anything u did to make it smooth?

I'm on adw ex as well and it's inconsistent. Sometimes dog slow, sometimes nice and snappy. I use it mainly for functionality, and the lag is no more than mildly annoying.
I've used ADW ex on my Galaxy S, my S2 and my note. Always loved it. Just recently switched to Go launcher ex. Almost like it better. It has a couple of neat features that ADW doesnt have. But ADW was never laggy for me....
I changed the homescreen transition to zoom.. It's silky smooth. The default cube is laggy
And I removed the bounce
Then it is as smooth as tw, if not more smooth

If your Note isn't rooted almost all other Launchers will lag. The more widgets you have, the more lag. I think it's an issue with the Rom.

Rooting or not will not affect the launchers whether they lag or not.
It's whether hardware acceleration is being used for the launcher. Tw is hardware accelerated by default. Adw is partially hardware accelerated

Use Launcher Pro its smooth as butter.
Go launcher for me. Silky smooth in 240 dpi.

If you want ADW is clean, you must disable the cache scroll in preference system.
davfunk,
I was using the low quality cache to smooth the transitions (but it was still a bit laggy) but moving to non made my ADW Launcher EX as smooth as TW Launcher if not moother.
Just perfect!!!!!!

I have completely disable the cache.
I use GO launcher.
I used to use ADW EX but find GO Launcher mire advanced.
Lets say you have a contact shortcut on your main screen, tapping it calls person X, you can use GO launcher to ads a gesture command. So if you swipe up OM that same shortcut it'll do something else. I have it set so that it'll open that contact's chat window in what'sup.
Tapping calls, swipe up chats. Isn't that amazing and convenient.
CorruptedSanity,
I used GO Launcher for almost a year on my Desire HD, but when I moved to the Note, it was not as smooth as ADW Launcher EX.
Go Launcher has amazing features sur as dockbar icon swipe to launch actions, integrated plugins and so on that you need to find replacement for when using ADW Launcher but if you stick with a laggy launcher (as I use a lot of scrolling widgets), it ruins everything.
So now, with no cache set in config, I can swear that ADW Launcher EX is probably the best launcher for Note in terms of smoothness (and I tried a lot, including 360 Launcher, before writing that).
I use ADW with an HD2, a DHD and the Note because with GO Launcher it is not possible to hide the status bar.

Go to ADW Settings and switch the Cache to Low Quality.
Edit: Sorry, didn't see the posts above mine. :/
I have tried LOTS of launchers but keep coming back to ADW EX.
I finally have it running really nicely. I leave the cache on auto but do unclick scrolling wallpaper.
Wee demo:

I keep using the GO Launcher after testing a lot of other launchers.
I made the experiance that the GO Launcher is the best at all. Its smooth and very easy to handle.

ADW EX works perfectly here. No lag at all. I'm using 240 DPI.
Hi,
I was on stock launcher on ICS because I thought JB would bring me the buttery smoothness it promised... but it didn't. It runs smoother, especially in stock browser, but the animations when killing and opening applications isn't "buttery" smooth. I don't want to turn off those animations because I think they would look nice at 60 fps. The weird thing is killing an application from within another application is way smoother than from the home screen hence my question: What launcher do you use since the JB update and does it make everything smooth on the Home screen? (including the animations when opening and closing applications).
So far, I've tried the following:
Nova launcher (my favorite so far but has the same problem as the stock one)
Apex launcher (not as smooth as stock or Nova)
Go launcher (looks bad imo and not really smoother)
Launcher Pro (It is smooth for opening and killing applications but the page transition is laggy and icons look bad)
Holo Launcher (not that smooth either)
..... some others I can't remember, but none were perfect.
I've also tried the Force GPU rendering in the Dev. options which doesn't seem to make a difference and change the 3 animation scales to .5x instead of 1x which makes the sketchiness less noticeable but doesn't fix it.
TL/DR: What is your TF700 Launcher after Jellybean update and does it make the animations from killing and opening applications buttery smooth (60 fps).
Nova launcher, animations set to fast. Dev options set to .5
Buttery smooth....not sure what the issue is with your setup

I re installed Nova and tried those setting and it makes things better. Thank you. Did you notice what I was talking about on stock launcher tho? The animations being sketchy.
not really...my stock launcher is pretty smooth too.
As the title says, my question is simple. I downloaded nova launcher today just because I didn't like the black background of the app drawer and wanted a background. My setup with nova launcher is more or less like the default stock launcher. I have the "aggressive desktop" thing enabled. Although everything seems to be as smooth as the stock launcher but I'm still in a delusion that nova is affecting performance.
So my question is, does this nova launcher affect app/game performance in any way? I haven't seen any noticeable degradation but I still want to make sure if the use of this launcher is eating away a few FPS in my games or something.
Please throw some light upon this, thanks in advance.

I personally don't use that feature and my nova works pretty smooth (Im using Google now launcher now BTW).
I checked nova in both cpu monitor and battery manager and it has a pretty low resource usage, among the top out there.
You can use this little app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.uvdb.tools.cpumonitor&hl=en
to check cpu usage and you have built in features in KK to check memory usage and battery usage.
