TF700 Laucher after Jellybean update - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi,
I was on stock launcher on ICS because I thought JB would bring me the buttery smoothness it promised... but it didn't. It runs smoother, especially in stock browser, but the animations when killing and opening applications isn't "buttery" smooth. I don't want to turn off those animations because I think they would look nice at 60 fps. The weird thing is killing an application from within another application is way smoother than from the home screen hence my question: What launcher do you use since the JB update and does it make everything smooth on the Home screen? (including the animations when opening and closing applications).
So far, I've tried the following:
Nova launcher (my favorite so far but has the same problem as the stock one)
Apex launcher (not as smooth as stock or Nova)
Go launcher (looks bad imo and not really smoother)
Launcher Pro (It is smooth for opening and killing applications but the page transition is laggy and icons look bad)
Holo Launcher (not that smooth either)
..... some others I can't remember, but none were perfect.
I've also tried the Force GPU rendering in the Dev. options which doesn't seem to make a difference and change the 3 animation scales to .5x instead of 1x which makes the sketchiness less noticeable but doesn't fix it.
TL/DR: What is your TF700 Launcher after Jellybean update and does it make the animations from killing and opening applications buttery smooth (60 fps).

Nova launcher, animations set to fast. Dev options set to .5
Buttery smooth....not sure what the issue is with your setup

I re installed Nova and tried those setting and it makes things better. Thank you. Did you notice what I was talking about on stock launcher tho? The animations being sketchy.

not really...my stock launcher is pretty smooth too.

Go launcher

I was looking for something new and tried out a few Sense ROMs. I really like the Sense widgets and their little touches like the calendar and menus. However I had a lot of problems with these ROMs so I decided to go another route. I've been using Launcher Pro plus for a while, but development has slowed.
I tried Go launcher yesterday and am really liking it. If you haven't tried it in a while, it's come a long way. It has nicer widgets than Launcher pro and most of the features that launcher pro has like to eliminating the text on icons, transition effects, etc.
Themes are a little slim, but switching them is easy. The only thing that seems to lag on my phone is the homescreen preview, other than that as smooth as launcher pro.
I'd highly suggest adw ex. It doesn't have widgets but its the most stable launcher I have ever used.
Have checked it out for a while, thanks

Oddly enough the only launcher I've had problems with is ADW. I purchased LP a year ago and have to say its been very solid.
I love Go Launcher. I've used ADW and Launcher Pro during my Eris days, but once I tried Go, I never went back.
Go Launcher is running real nice for me. Turn up the fling speed in preferences to make it feel a little more snappy. It has some cool icon effects for the app drawer like cylinder and sphere.
n00b question.......does Go Launcher EX play nice with all Sense ROMs? I'd hate to jack-up my current setup to make it look prettier. Looking for a little info because Go Launcher Ex looks pretty sweet.

The layout you have to Sense will stay intact when another launcher is installed. So if you uninstalled a launcher because you want to go back, everything will be there. You just won't be able to get Sense widgets.
I keep trying Go from time to time, but I always end up uninstalling it. I find it highly annoying that I have to install every widget separately, but I understand this might be to make the base launcher lightweight.
I find it a bit laggy - and dont get me wrong, the screen transitions are like butter. However, there seems to be a delay from when I swipe to when the screen actually animates. I'm used to LP's instant reaction. Plus, I sometimes notice jerkiness with Go that I don't get with LP, but I'm just being picky. Finally I dislike the acceleration curve when swiping between screens. I feel it doesn't respond to how fast I'm swiping, at least when using a custom speed without elasticity (causes lag!).
Man I am picky about my launcher. Maybe I'm just spoiled! I did like Go's Widgets with the transparent theme though. Very well done.

Go Launcher is great!

Launcher 360

For some of you that don't know this launcher, you should try it !
It works very well on our P920.
I find it better reactive than go launcher.....

I totally agree as I am using it even as it came on Chinese!Fastest and lowest memory usage launcher with smooth animation and fast response.
Definitely recommend everyone to give it a try!
I'm normally using GoLauncher EX but i'll try this one for a few days from now on.
The first impression:
the scrolling is REALLY very smooth / it is even smoother than in GoLauncher EX with exact the same apps on the homescreens
i like the way the folders are managed -> like in iOS and with vertical scrolling (screenshot attached)
there are only few options to customize the homescreen, eg apps are not renameable and widgets can't be resized like in GoLauncher EX
maybe it is a wrong feeling but it seems to me that the apps open faster

[Q]How is ADW Launcher on your Note?

Been looking for a launcher(still am actually) because I didn't really like the stock version. I tried ADW but for some reason it's quite laggy on my Galaxy Note. FYI, I only have 3-4 widgets at most and mainly shortcuts.
Try adw ex.. No lags for me..
Or change the transition

I actually have ADW EX installed and its really laggy for me..is there anything u did to make it smooth?

I'm on adw ex as well and it's inconsistent. Sometimes dog slow, sometimes nice and snappy. I use it mainly for functionality, and the lag is no more than mildly annoying.
I've used ADW ex on my Galaxy S, my S2 and my note. Always loved it. Just recently switched to Go launcher ex. Almost like it better. It has a couple of neat features that ADW doesnt have. But ADW was never laggy for me....
I changed the homescreen transition to zoom.. It's silky smooth. The default cube is laggy
And I removed the bounce
Then it is as smooth as tw, if not more smooth

If your Note isn't rooted almost all other Launchers will lag. The more widgets you have, the more lag. I think it's an issue with the Rom.

Rooting or not will not affect the launchers whether they lag or not.
It's whether hardware acceleration is being used for the launcher. Tw is hardware accelerated by default. Adw is partially hardware accelerated

Use Launcher Pro its smooth as butter.
Go launcher for me. Silky smooth in 240 dpi.

If you want ADW is clean, you must disable the cache scroll in preference system.
davfunk,
I was using the low quality cache to smooth the transitions (but it was still a bit laggy) but moving to non made my ADW Launcher EX as smooth as TW Launcher if not moother.
Just perfect!!!!!!

I have completely disable the cache.
I use GO launcher.
I used to use ADW EX but find GO Launcher mire advanced.
Lets say you have a contact shortcut on your main screen, tapping it calls person X, you can use GO launcher to ads a gesture command. So if you swipe up OM that same shortcut it'll do something else. I have it set so that it'll open that contact's chat window in what'sup.
Tapping calls, swipe up chats. Isn't that amazing and convenient.
CorruptedSanity,
I used GO Launcher for almost a year on my Desire HD, but when I moved to the Note, it was not as smooth as ADW Launcher EX.
Go Launcher has amazing features sur as dockbar icon swipe to launch actions, integrated plugins and so on that you need to find replacement for when using ADW Launcher but if you stick with a laggy launcher (as I use a lot of scrolling widgets), it ruins everything.
So now, with no cache set in config, I can swear that ADW Launcher EX is probably the best launcher for Note in terms of smoothness (and I tried a lot, including 360 Launcher, before writing that).
I use ADW with an HD2, a DHD and the Note because with GO Launcher it is not possible to hide the status bar.

Go to ADW Settings and switch the Cache to Low Quality.
Edit: Sorry, didn't see the posts above mine. :/
I have tried LOTS of launchers but keep coming back to ADW EX.
I finally have it running really nicely. I leave the cache on auto but do unclick scrolling wallpaper.
Wee demo:

I keep using the GO Launcher after testing a lot of other launchers.
I made the experiance that the GO Launcher is the best at all. Its smooth and very easy to handle.
Greetz
ADW EX works perfectly here. No lag at all. I'm using 240 DPI.

This is how smooth a launcher should be

I just stumbled up a newly released launcher called Arikui Launcher on the Play Store, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arikui.launcher
This simple but extremely smooth running launcher shows how launchers should be done. The swiping and animations are very well implemented and are extremely smooth and responsive. I have set my page transitions to the in and out animation and love the performance. Even tapping on an icon there is an extemely smooth and well done fall away animation. Coming back to the Arikui Launcher there is also another very well done and smooth run in animation.
The Arikui Launcher can be made to look similar to a Windows Phone home screen or a Nokia Meego rounded icons home screen. I went with the Meego style by setting the corner radius of the icons to maximum. It looks modern and stylish in a minimalist way.
I am running it on my Galaxy Note 2 and compared to Touchwiz or any of the other Windows Phone style launchers, nothing holds a candle to Arikui in terms of performance. The only thing this launcher needs is to make the icons/tiles resizable.
I hope other launchers can run as fast and smooth as Arikui and perhaps some devs could decompile it to see how it runs so smooth.

[Q] Does Nova launcher affect performance?

As the title says, my question is simple. I downloaded nova launcher today just because I didn't like the black background of the app drawer and wanted a background. My setup with nova launcher is more or less like the default stock launcher. I have the "aggressive desktop" thing enabled. Although everything seems to be as smooth as the stock launcher but I'm still in a delusion that nova is affecting performance.
So my question is, does this nova launcher affect app/game performance in any way? I haven't seen any noticeable degradation but I still want to make sure if the use of this launcher is eating away a few FPS in my games or something.
Please throw some light upon this, thanks in advance.

I personally don't use that feature and my nova works pretty smooth (Im using Google now launcher now BTW).
I checked nova in both cpu monitor and battery manager and it has a pretty low resource usage, among the top out there.
You can use this little app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.uvdb.tools.cpumonitor&hl=en
to check cpu usage and you have built in features in KK to check memory usage and battery usage.
