The main problem with my G2X is the sleep of death, which happens a lot. I get occasional reboots too, but not too often. I tried flashing EaglesBlood 1.05 and then CM7 nightly (7/6), which I'm on now, and I still get sleeps of death and reboots, with perhaps reduced frequency but still bad. Maybe it's the battery, though I don't have overheating/charging/battery drain issues, so I'm not sure what the problem is and if it's hardware or software. Any advice on what I should do would be appreciated - thanks!
I enabled "stay awake" and flashed faux's oc kernel and haven't had an sod in weeks on the stock rom.

Wouldn't that drain your battery much faster?
Also, I only seem to get the SOD when the phone is charging overnight, and I have a damn screen off profile set to underclock too, not even the lowest frequencies either so it cant be the freeze that that causes sometimes. Tho when it does and I figure out it is frozen asleep, it is usually hot. Might have to either get new battery or replacement. Tho what seems to heat up the most is the area around the camera, so I don't know if the battery or CPU are to blame.
No. Stay Awake only takes effect when your phone is plugged into a power source. Give it a try. I used to get 1 SOD per day. Since i made those changes I've had none in over a month. I posted the same thing in other SOD related threads but no one seems to care.
Thanks regP - I enabled Stay Awake and it seems to help. I've only had one SoD since. My new theory is that it relates to heat (leaving phone in the sun, running too many apps etc.). I've also noticed I don't get an SoD at work, where I get no reception and it's air-conditioned...might be related.
You also need to flash Faux's OC kernel. Even if you dont OC it gets rid of the faulty 300hz frequency that is believed to be part of the problem. Do that along with stay awake and you should not see any more SOD or reboots.
I've noticed I only ever got SOD when using any different kernel than what's in the original ROM. I have been on CM7 since RC1 and have been updating each nightly since and not touched the kernel and have not had a single SOD since, even when charging overnight. Only when I would try Faux kernel or Trinity kernel I would get SOD's.
I dunno then. completely stock for mean means sod and reboots. gingerbreak leak means sod and reboots. stocks + days kernel and stay awake means no sod or reboots. buddy of mine also cured his problems the same way.
For me stock froyo and gingerbread solves the problem.Initially when there was a call waiting sods used to occur, not in any other situation.I tired latest cm7 nightly with fauxs kernel,MIUI with fauxs kernel (and yes wiped cache , wiped dalvik cache and fix permissions and stay awake) but still sods. Then the stock froyo / gingerbread solves the problem for me.Hope this helps somebody. But my point is can I install the stock kernel with cm7 or MIUI ?.

no, miui and cm7 are both built from AOSP code and thus won't work with the stock kernel.
I guess I got lucky... never encounter the SOD or Reboot. Running cm nightly 163... I only update nightly when I notice major change only from change log.

So can you suggest any other kernel I should try to stop the sleep of death ?
I have two G2x - Stock Froyo and kernel, manually restart once per day - no SOD or async reboots. Both G2x did suffer from SOD (with or without heat) and reboots. Manual restarts are not as sexy as 3rd party kernels and roms, but it works.
My wife uses her G2x as an alarm clock - she gets in beds, manually shutsdown the G2x, restarts it, plugs into the charger, and it wakes her up in the morning. EVERY DAY.

my sod issues stopped when I enables "stay awake". never used anything but the included kernel of whatever Tom I decide to use.
What is the best solution for this? Makes me think i wasted good money on getting 2, for me and my girl. I tried that "stay awake" and same, shuts off out of nowhere. Ive flashed both faux kernel, same results. I dont experience it with CM but for me, stock its just more responsive BESIDES the shutoff. And Weapons rom just has too much addons.. Now people are saying that the SGS2 isnt all that because of benchscores.. And i wanted that phone.. But they make it seem like it isbt a big step forward.

Thanks for this. I'll be sure to use the "Thanks" button when i have enough posts. I'd been leaving the phone screen on in my pocket (using an alarm clock app) because it would SOD anytime i used the lock button. Working better already.
I keep on getting SODs ONLY when there is a call waiting in the background and this happens only with CM7,MIUI.When I flash the stock gingerbread or even weapons G2x,EaglesBlood ROM the sods that occur during call waiting vanish. Can anyone help me here ? I tried fauxs kernel along with Stay awake and increasing the minimum CPU frequency but failed. Any help will be appreciated.
For the people that SOD occurs on the charger, try another charger (instead of stock LG charger). I tried the Motorola micro USB charger which put out only 550mA (which came with the H730 bluetooth) and the SOD vanished.
Probably over heating with the LG charger which puts out 1000mA
Hi my Samsung Infuse sometimes starts vibrating and then it turns off randomly, does someone here is experiencing this problem too?
If it vibrates once, then twice and reboots I think somwthing is force- closing but why it reboots Idk. Mine was doing that at one time (dont remember what rom/kernel I was on @the time) but I flashed 2 stock, then back to bionix & havnt had problem since
Mine does this too. Except when it reboots, my wallpaper changes back to what it recently was before I changed it (even after I deleted the obnoxious picture).
After flashing to Infuse 1.5.2, the wallpaper and shortcut locations were all normal (also lost my texts, not a problem). Later on, it vibrated and rebooted again, and all my old shortcut locations were back, my old wallpaper was back, and all of my texts were back, but I was still on Infused v1.5.2
It's kind of annoying seeing as it happens every other day or so.
might be too much UV
i only had this happen with test kernels on bionix -almost- never with infused

im not doing any UV/OC, this problem also existed when i was in stock firmware, i updated now to infuses 1.5.3, lets see if the problem persist, nobody know a possible fix?
I have tried 4 different radios and this phone still randomly reboots with frequency. I am the the 802 radio and it seems even worse then earlier radios. I am currently on gingerritis rom which i installed yesterday and have probably had 12 reboots since then.
Is it a combination of the rom and radio, or does just the radio make the phone reboot? I am really just tempted to flash it back to stock, sell it with the warning of this phone enjoys random reboots and get another phone.
while i typed this up it just rebooted twice on its own
I dont think the radio is what is going to fix the reboot issue. I know for some of the roms the fix was flashing the ziggy kernel.
Maybe give that a shot.

If hes using gingeritis, hes already using ziggy's kernel. Sounds weird i know, but try a new battery

i think overclocking to high and all the kernel cpu mods are whats causing this, not the radios.

I agree. Ziggy's stock voltage settings are very conservative north of about 1.5GHz. If you're tweaking it, definitely pay attention to the voltage.
nope not touching voltage or overclocking, i just put rom on thats about as far as i go tweaking phone.
Installed M0N0LITHTH3ORY rom and so far no reboots today, the gingeritis one must hate my phone cause in the less than 24 hours it was on the phone damn thing rebooted easy 10 times. But now this one is giving me some unexpected errors with weather app. I will give this one a week and see how it does and if no good on to next rom i guess.

Have you ever formatted /system?
yeah every time i put new rom i go into clockwork recovery
i wipe / factory reset
then format /system /cache /data
and wipe davlik cache
then install rom
double post...
i know my phone didnt like a few different roms. try a diffeerent one. also try doing each step 3 times. i did that after my phone rebooted on an a0sp rom by droidtheroy, after that it worked just fine on the rom that was rebooting
You know what? I was having the same problem and tired as hell of my TB. I was so tired of the little problems and the large rebooting problem that I had learned to really hate this phone.
A few days ago I decided to just use the new leaked, stock, unrooted, GB 210 RUU and give that one more try before I either took a hammer to this phone or unrooted and tried to get VZW to replace it.
I've had the latest leaked RUU on this phone for a few days now and I'm loving it again. Yeah, stock, unrooted, but also super fast GPS locking, fast 3g/LTE switching, no more reboots, not one. Battery is actually not bad at all after turning off a few of the stock bloat like Blockbuster. The gui is fast and smooth, I can't say whether or not it is as fast as it was when I was running custom ROMs but as far as I'm concerned its a big who cares. I now have a nicely working phone again. This is just my experience and my opinion, YMMV!

I got reboots with gingeritis and liquid ROMs, I've had no reboots in a week now running Virus' Synergy ROM. Try a different ROM, it should fix your problems.
Here's a link to Virus' work:

Second the ROM recommendation. Try a different one. I had the same issue with wanting to grenade this thing until I found a combo of ROM and radio that was stable for my use and applications.
Now I wouldn't think of tossing this phone.

Stability and battery life good for me with stock 1.70.605.0. Currently at 868 hours uptime.
yeah i am on monolith rom and so far no reboots, i am going to give this one a shot for now, hopefully this cures it.
Dont flame me, ive been on xda since the g1 so i know what im saying. I was looking for a stable rom because every one ive tried has random freezes and reboots not to mention the lag. I have voodoo enabled and i tried overclocking and normal clocking. I had a vibrant and switched it for a htc phone because of these problems. Since then i switched my Mytouch 4g for this one and i think i made a mistake.
The only time I have ever had these issues was when I installed the rom incorrectly. I understand that HTC is easier to flash than Samsung but that does not make Samsung any less of a phone. I have flashed every rom on here with the exception of the kf gb leaks. Once I had the rom properly installed I had no issues at all.

Im sure the roms are correctly installed, In your opinion which rom is the most stable so i can try it
Are you looking for a gingerbread rom or a froyo rom?
I never had any issues with icbinb froyo. stable and good battery life. I'm on Valhalla GB now and haven't had any issues once I wiped the data/cache and ran fix permissions.
I sometimes wonder what people mean when they say their phone is laggy. I've never really experienced anything laggy on my phone, but I do run a high speed (class 10) SD card, so maybe that has something to do with it. since a lot of apps run on the SD, a slow card would make a difference.
i have not had any problems with the ROMs i have tried. Froyo and GB ICBINB/Audiophile and Now I am on Valhalla. The battery life on the GB ROMs are great as is the performance. I run UV'd but can OC to 1.62 with zero stability issues.
Ironicly enough, I gave my fiancee the mytouch4g and switched back to the sgs4g. I too had a bit of concern, just last night. But I am certain these guys have got it together. If your a flash crack head like me, then you might appreciate the quality of quantity and the break from flashing every day. I hear there is great quality here.

In my opinion the most stable was icbinb froyo. I never had any issues at all with it. However Valhalla once installed properly has had zero issues at all as well and with dsextons performance tweaks is probably my top pick.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
For Froyo, I ran Black Ice with Bali 3.3UV for months with zero issues.
Upgraded to GB with ICBINB KH2 and then Valhalla, had the annoying voodoo ext4 / busybox issues briefly (felt like I was taking a step backwards after how predictable Bali 3.3UV was) but thanks to the CWM flashable busybox installer that seems to be a thing of the past.
I would recommend either ICBINBKH2 or Valhalla as I like the stock GB theme. They have both been very reliable for me and IMO GB is light years ahead of Froyo.
I've never had "lag" issues with this phone when flashed correctly.....I hit a button and bam!
Only time I have had any issues was running any ROM with Launcher Pro. ICBINB with Zeam Launcher was the most stable for me. Right now I am still running Valhalla beta release with all tweaks, generally OC'd to 1.3, Zeam Launcher. This setup has been flawless so far, and I get about 40+ hours battery life.
You. Will. Obey. XDA Premium
or install any of the audiophile roms also
Thanks i will try all of the roms suggested in the thread, Im on Vallhala and its alright the only thing is that it randomly freezes or reboots when i try to do something while i listen to music or when im in the middle of a call.
That's very weird that you're getting these random freezes.
For your random reboots, remove your task killer if you have one. Be sure to fix permissions through CWM too. I used to get that problem on Froyo and GB as well, but after I removed my task killer, my rebooting problems officially stopped. Just to be safe, I fix permissions every time I install an app or flash something new.
I know you said you had experience flashing a lot already, but did you also let the phone rebuild its dalvik cache as well? Be sure to let the phone sit for a good 10-20 minutes after a flash.
im having an issue when i play games on the sensation, it gets really hot down where the bottom keys are (home, back, search, menu).
i didnt have this problem when i was running AHRD ICS 4.0.3 (6.0.2)
once i upgraded to the 6.5.0 i started having these issues
i had 1.7ghz kernel running on both versions and for some reason since i upgraded to the 6.0.5 i started having overheating issues.
the phone will get really hot and keeps restarting and freezing, so i take out battery let it cool off and it works fine again.
the battery never gets hot, when i take it out the phone is hot but the battery is still at normal temp.
it happens when i play dead space, rs2012, monopoly, etc.
is this a known issue?
someone please help, thanks
Kernel is failing which causes the reboots.
Try flashing a stock compatible kernel?
