[Q] What is KDZ and KDZ Flasher - T-Mobile LG G2x

Can some of you guys be kind to explain what KDZ flash exactly is, what is it for and how it works? Thanks.

the kdz file is the gingerbread update from lg but with a .kdz extension. the kdz flasher is just a firmware update utility specific to lg phones.

And how do i put it on my phone without doing risky update? do I need to use KDZ flasher and how?
Many thanks

everything in life is risky. if you're that worried, don't do it. without reading and searching, you'll be staring at a software upgrade screen for days.

... and asking, which is what I am doing.
I am glad if I can explain something to someone and be helpful in things I'm good at. It kinda makes me happy. But I simply do not know if I could download KDZ file to my computer and flash it somehow to the phone directly. And that's why I would like to ask someone to tell me.

did you search the forums? it's being talked about everywhere.
yes, you can download it to your phone and flash it. but i highly recommend you read up on it. if you know about the kdz file, that means you were in a thread which probably had instructions on how to go about this.

yes i did search forums and i know all about pre-kdz flashing procedures (returning to stock, nv-flashing restore, unrooting) but i couldn't find anything telling us how the flashing itself is done.

you flash it but putting your phone into download mode (hold volume up and power button while the phone is off) and connecting to computer via usb (requires a pc with proper drivers for your phone installed or hope windows update can auto do it if not download it) then using the flash tool on your pc, there are guides on how to do it but the ones i have are for my phone which include the kdz for the nitro, so i'm scared to link them you'll brick your phone with the wrong kdz.

Hell yeah two year bump, don't think he needed that anymore :/
Sent from my LG-P999

i have done so now i am about to read phone information on the kdz flasher they say port ( usb or serial ) not found . what do i do

when you reflashed you device did you wipe the previous ROM? you need to wipe the old rom before reflashing, because when you reflash the ROM it does not erase the previous one you have. try wiping the old ROM...imho c",?
My lg optimus bricked as well
I have bricked my LG optimus p500. I am able to get into emergency mode by pressing search + vol down.
I am not sure what is emergency download mode and what are the key combinations to get into it. What should I do next. I have KDZ updater available with me but its not helping.
It says: "PHONE not found"
I'm stuck in fastboot on boot. Fastboot commands works on the phone but since it doesnt detect my sd card i can't flash or do anything. And i'm a noob when it comes to the commands in fastboot and adb... but gimme a shout if you've got a hint to my salvation

am with you
After days of living a double life
I downloaded the LG KDZ UPDATER but needed to find instructions on using after hours of failed attempts and came across a forum here that spoke of english version of the KDZ UPDATER that does not need windows enabler and that saved my phone.
Visit LG, download and install all the drivers offered for your model first. Then you will need to find the kdz updater file for your phone I could only find the one for the opt p500 and I have a p509 but used it anyway and boy was I happy to see the phone shut down and show the battery charging animation. I still had to do a factory reset afterwards because the phone kept getting stuck at the android screen. So the phone booted and I noticed there were some limitations like not being able to install apps because the phone would not acknowledge the apps on my SD CARD and I could not get a network connection to save my life.
I used the updater software for my phone that I downloaded from LG and did a software update and were back in business. I missed my baby. All of the essentials besides the LG software came from reading the forums here which I am so happy, thankful and greatfull for. Thanks to every one who posted what little progress they were making step by step. If your phone is stuck at the LG logo and you don't know by now, pressing and holding down the up volume, back and power keys while phone is off will put your phone in emergency mode. the drivers for your device will recognize your phone in emergency mode. I did not provide any links to make it that easy for you because my struggle gave me more knowledge than I was looking for but was much needed. Good Luck to all. I am know optimistic about doing additional mods to my device due to my faith in this recovery from a brick. I immediately came here minutes after my success to help and give thanx. I really appreciate the fact I did not have to talk or go to my carrier about this.

Hi, I have an LG Optimus T. I am a noob.rooted successfully and after that was trying to flash a custom recovery. I guess I screwed up some obvious thing and now the phone is stuck on the LG logo when ever I turn on, may be the continuous boot loop. When I connect it to PC, nothing is detected. Searched all over web and couldn't find any help except for this thread.
Btw, I tried holding down the buttons to see if it goes into recovery. does nothing.
Can some one please help me!!!
Thanks!!

Finally, out of the dumps. Followed this thread's first post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883314
( and the links in the thread to get the KDZ updater and the stock rom download from LG) to the word, including all the shaking. Got into the emergency mode, used the KDZ updater to install the ROM, (had to shake the phone until the updater detected it, ) and have the phone back and running.
For the rom downloads, none of the US T-mobile roms are available for download. I downloaded the Australian rom. follow the links in the post carefully, its all there.

you can find all the codes for different country specific LG ROMS and also how to download the file. USA files were not available so I downloaded Australian ROM. works great. much lesser bloatware than our T-mobile.

I've tried this but it is confusing as all heck. I don't know the exact firmware version I'm looking for in the weblink. Urgh I'm getting frustrated and I have a lot of patience for these kind of things, lol.

OK, glad to know I'm getting somewhere. Downloaded that kdz, phone is on EMERGENCY MODE, but now trying like crazy to have it detected by the KDZ updater.
shaking is the only way. i had to shake it and restart updater half a dozen times before finally got it to detect the phone. its a test of patience. after it is detected, take it easy and let it do its thing. takes a while for the phone to boot up for the first time.

[Urgent] Rooting Optimus V (not-active)

I have an urgent question regarding rooting my new Optimus V (Virg Mob), that if possible, i could use an immediate answer for i have very limited time.
I recently purchased a like new, used Optimus V 2.2 o/s off a friend, that is currently not-activated on the Virgin Mobile network, but have been sending/recieving calls and texts through Wi-Fi apps such as Line2 and netTalk. Is it possible to use sublimewulf's method of rooting the opt_v without service (prefer one click root)? i understand that it says it must be activated, but im curious if Wifi will work just as good, or if there is a simple ''one click root'' method i could use. im just not sure why it must be active, im not sure what is done during the one-click method.
Can I root my Optimus V with a One Click root program/app WITHOUT service/activation? If so, could someone please point me in the direction of the download + instructions? Much thanks, its greatly appreciated for all future help- you have no idea..
Thanks XDA Dev team + members,,

Just click the thank button ;-)
Thank you very much, is it normal for the file to be especially large? not sure if the optimus could fit a 173mb file.
Also, what are the chances of this bricking my opt.v or ultimately destoying the operation of the phone??
Also, could you recommend a few ROM's? I heard cyanogenmod is rather popular, but what is it? whats it do- what makes it so special, i guess is what im trying to say. also, is it possible to put the new gingerbread o/s on my opt? would it run as smooth as it runs as is? thanks again, so
what would be a nice ROM to install, and where can they be found (free). also, what are the chances of this root device destroying my handheld, or bricking it? thanks again bro for the fast and accurate response! +thanks for sure!
Oh also,

What is the meaning of this, under the fastbootroot thread? if this program at least works, why would he tag it as being deprecated? also saying he is tired of the complaints. please exp?
thank you. im trying to avoid the slightest bit of damage done to my new phone.
***EDIT::: Do i download the files (from the link you posted) to my phone, or my pc??
He means the complaints of him not working on it.
All you have to do is download this on your computer, as well as the LG drivers, and choose the [Full Package] option, and it will root your phone. Afterwards, see if you can get into recovery, and if not, run the program again and choose the [Flash a custom recovery] option.
Ive used this several times, never a problem.
Best ROM for me was Harmonia, which can be found on Android Central.
i tried both quickbootroot (your link/app posted above) , and also SuperOneClick v2.2, and neither one worked. I tried SuperOneClick, opened the program, and clicked [Root], (after connecting USB to droid, and turning on debugging), and it froze at Stage 2. How do i fix this, and what could cause it?
Im not sure if the cable im using is a charging cable ,or a data cable. i didnt think it would matter, but anyway, how can i tell, and would this cause it?
When i tried the quickbootroot, i opened the .bat file, the disclaimer came up, i hit [y] and enter, and it just went away- nothing happened...
I also ran the usb drivers exe on the computer (i hope this was right), and nothing happened from it neither.
What did i do wrong, and how do i fix this problem? I just want to root my device already...

lg optimus zone 3 lgvs425pp stock firmware dump

hopefully this will help out some people and the developers to make, fix, restore a not so popular phone. I did a total firmware dump and have uploaded to my 4shared folder. If anyone is interested or can tell me how to upload it here for developing i will be more than happy to share with those in need. I also have a spare phone that i would be willing to test anything made from the firmware dump i created.
PLEASE link?
Some time after rooting my Optimus Zone 3 VS425PP, I got locked into a boot loop. There are no custom ROM's, neither recovery nor OS. It's not bricked. Yet, anyway. The loading screen functions, then a little window that says "OPTIMIZING APPS 1 OF 5, PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE BATTERY..." appears. I've seen this before, but now, upon reaching "APP 5 OF 5," it reboots and repeats. I've tried several factory resets via the LG RECOVERY (MODIFIED,) as well as safe mode to no avail. Anyone? Anything? Help? The only recourse I can think of would be to re-flash the stock ROM, which I cannot find. Anywhere. Thanks, guys.
i tried contacting judthro for the same file; no luck

Unfortunately, I don't think this file is actually out there. I have REALLY been looking, even contacted the LG Development team. The LG Support Tool, etc. are not going to help you yet as they do not have the firmware on their servers yet. That's why the LG Support Tool will freeze when trying to do an Update Recovery on this phone. -- And I've tried them all: LG Mobile Support Tool, LG PC Suite, Verizon VS425PP Update Tool (from the mounted drive on the phone), LG Flash Tool 2014 to force different KDZ files. All provide nothing. All dead ends. The Optimus won't grab a COM unless it is the right signed firmware for the phone. You'll just sit there in Download Mode or in Debug mode forever with no result. We have to wait for the first update from LG from version VS425PP1 to whatever comes next so they have something to stick on their server. But...if you find something before then, please let me know! The update will eventually be released to the public. It'll probably just take a year or so.
Good thing is Wal-Mart sells these for under $12 (yes, that's right). I picked up seven of these quad-core bad boys at that deal. Just bugs the hell out of me I can't fix the one I over rooted.
this *might* be promising...

hopefully the op will chime in for insight. The 999MB isn't much good. It appears to be a RAR dump of all the partitions, perhaps made from a lglaf.py script while in download. Nevertheless, i havent found any way yet to push the firmware dump onto the phone.
I've had no luck, either.

Meanwhile, as my LG cycles endlessly through my really cool "Jolly Roger" boot animation, I stumbled across a Kyocera Hydro Wave at Walmart for $20. I snapped it up to replace the LG Optimus Zone 3. I had big plans to root it, too., but I should've researched it first. The specs are great... but one check on Cyanogen's website probably would've saved me some trouble. Not one Kyocera device is listed there. XDA thread also throws red flags-no one can get root to stick. Well, I at least learned a lesson. Next time, I plan to purposefully buy a phone that can be rooted, has been rooted, has instructions online to do so, AND has at least one custom ROM available! No wonder this thing was $20! Keep us all posted if you stumble across a bootloop fix of some kind, and I'll do the same.

Either I am unable to open that link from an Android device OR the link given is to an unshared folder? It just asks me to log in and then says 'that folder does not exist in your DropBox...' PLEASE check out the SHARE link from within your DropBox and maybe share a new folder (and drop the stock ROM in there, along with what you might've used to flash it maybe?) We'd be very grateful!

To all who have a bricked, phone this phone has an update. Download the LG software assistant and put assistant in repair mode then boot phone normally and wait a bit. Run the repair assistant and let it run. Hopefully if everything runs well as it did me. Mine is restored and running.
Just ordered one. Is there root for this phone? Unlocked bootloader or forgetaboutit?
I rooted this phone and then tried to de-bloat, but I must have deleted too much. Now when I boot all I get is "Security Error - Authentication Fail #9"
I can get to Download mode, but none of the recovery programs recognize the phone. I installed the drivers, but still nothing. Is there anything I can do?

I started working on my lg stylo from cricket with no idea what I was doing. All ive really done is allow root, and have supersu with busybox. Other than that I've just been pulling my hair out because of lg bootloader lock. I've found some things about adb straight on the device to bypass bootloader. One thing I have found through my research is a guide with the "factory firmware". I haven't had a chance to try it, but I will post it for those who can try it out.
Also I too have a lot of questions specifically about the lg g stylo. I have h634 (from cricket) and want to work on roms/kernels and remove ALL bloatware. Most importantly, I would like to learn how to set the external sd card as "default" storage.
If you have useful info on the cricket variant of the stylo or know of anything that might help, you can send it my way. Also, I do have much more I have found about the stylo and love to share. Don't be afraid to ask me something. I will do my best to help you, as I too will be learning while trying to help.
If you want the link for the guide, just send me a personal message or simply reply to this post. I apparently can't post outside links until I've made 10 posts on the site. With this being my very first post, I guess I have 9 more to go lol.
Remember to follow instructions carefully and use at your own risk. I have not tried this and cannot vouch for it. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I started working on my lg stylo from cricket with no idea what I was doing. All ive really done is allow root, and have supersu with busybox. Other than that I've just been pulling my hair out because of lg bootloader lock. I've found some things about adb straight on the device to bypass bootloader. [TOT and dll] Cricket H634 LG G Stylo STOCK Firmware via Bit-Torrent Here
packydavis said:
Ok is there still no true root method, system.img or KDZ or recovery for our device? Is there no development? Ive had mine bricked now for a few months and waiting for an update or unbrick method has proven fruitless, can someone pull a system.img or help users with this device somehow? Thanks in advance

I bought the .TOT and .dll files from some non-LG site online; files over 1gb give me a lot of trouble to upload to Gdrive or Dropbox, and Mega.nz seems to give problems over time, so I've uploaded and am seeding (along with several others who are getting it from me) a zipped archive containing the .TOT & .dll files for the Cricket H634 LG G Stylo STOCK Firmware! Here's a link and also I've attached the torrent file in case the link dies : https://kat.cr/cricket-lg-g-stylo-h634-firmware-android-5-1-1-t12571867.html
Also I wrote a readme.txt containing instructions for how I did it, with programs too (LG Flash Tool 2014). It took me a while, so be sure to read it!
Peace
torrent download failed

This restores your device to factory. As of now there are no custom roms or custom recovery. To root, you can use Kingroot.
I have downloaded all of the drivers and lg flashtool as well as the .tot and .dll files. Moved everything where it needs to be, but when I enter download mode and connect the phone to my computer it isn't detected. It is detected any other time as in when my phone is booted up normally. Can someone please point me in the right direction. I have tried different drivers.
I've got the cricket LG G Stylo and I've managed to find the OEM Unlock. Has anyone else found it? Isn't that is what's needed to unlock bootloader?

Firmware Upgrade Problem - Always shows KDZ fail or TOT fail.

Hello,
Can somebody help me with my H830. I normally flash the phone every release of new firmware with the LGUP.
But this time after flash the H83010J no matter what I do all the time I get the error of KDZ invalid in the LGUP program at 4% of progress.
I get again all the KDZ file from and flash every release in refurbish or upgrade option and all the time I get the same message no matter what version I use (D, I, J)
Any help will be helpfull.
Regards

I solve the issue changing some values in the LGUP. Administrators please close /delete this thread.
How did you do it?

Don't you just love it when someone asks for help, solves the problem, then does not share it?
I get the same error after 4% of trying to flash my LG:
error: KDZ file is invalid MP260 -> TP260
Any help will be appreciated.

And even asks the mods to delete the thread on top of it to make sure nobody else could benefit from it.
Not sure if this will help you out, but try this https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/bring-lg-g5-to-life-download-mode-lgup-t3565508
I'm currently having another issue after trying to downgrade the android version, so that phone got bricked again. However, that guide helped me unbrick the phone when it was doing a boot loop, and LG UP wasn't working. Lg flash tool, the firmware extract tool, a kdz, and drivers were all I needed (uppercut won't work on my comp, so LG up is useless). Just make sure you're not downgrading your Android version. I didn't realize it would cause such a mess. So use a kdz for 20a.
Setting up lg flash tool is a bit tricky. I had to follow a guide, but can't remember which one (might have been a vid), so I can't link it. You have to move a file from one folder to another, but I can't remember which one exactly (maybe megalock.dll?). Shouldn't be hard to find though.
