Super One click, Gingerbreak and I even pulled Z4root out of the toolbox just for kicks. No dice.
I flashed CWM with nvflash and flashed the rooted xboarder rom so that I've got GB, the new baseband and root. Good to go.
Would you be able to explain the process or provide a link to directions to put a rooted version of GB on this?
Also since upgrading Iost the camera which I loved has anyone bee. Successful in reinstalling it. I've done a back up of it but the upgrade fails to take it.

Right after I downloaded the GB update, nothing I tried, any method I tried worked, even trying to flash cwm with Super One click.
Rebooting my computer allowed me to flash cwm with Super One click and then I was able to flash xboarder's rooted GB.
Not much too it. If you're having trouble with super one click, then uninstall your LG drivers, reboot, reinstall them and try again. That should do the trick.

So, you updated your ROM with the LG updater, which of course your phone wasn't rooted anymore. Then you Flashed CWM via NVflash (one click G2x recovery flasher) and then on CWM you flashed the rooted 2.3.3 ROM.
Am I following you? if so I will go with this solution to the rooting issue. Thanks!

What you need to do is flash the rooted ROM Xboarder posted. Flashing CWM will not root the update. You will have to flash on top if it. That's what I did!

That is correct! Use Xboarder's Rom in my signature. Downloading from LG Updater is how you will get to keep the updated Baseband

But isn't Xboarder's Rom based on the "leaked" ROM, not the one available via the LG updater?

No, it is the one off of the LG Updater. He stated leaked, because it wasn't approved by T-Mobile yet. Now it is approved.

That's what your supposed to do. Now you use NVFlasher to get CWM in recovery, then you install Xboarder's Rom that has Root included. It roots your phone and keeps the new baseband and LG update of GB. You can keep Xboarders stock version or use his tweaked version or use any custom Rom you want.
Oh really? Thought his gb was to be flashed while you still had 2.2. Thank you much.

It's got the best of both worlds! Stock AT&T ROM for good sound quality, but it's also rooted!
But does rooting the stock rom enable hsupa upload speeds? If not, we need s combo rom with a desire and am inspire, sound issue fixed, hsupa enabled.
Is this perma-root? If so how did you do it or can you provide a cwm zip file?

If he simply roots the stock AT&T ROM, it still will not have the Settings Checkbox for allowing non-market apps to be installed, thus he must still use a sideloading app or use "adb install".

This.
The problem is, the way I rooted, ro.secure is still set to 1 (adb sees the phone as a non-rooted phone) which means I can't use "adb remount".
If I could use adb remount, it's a really simple script to update the settings.db file to allow for sideloading

Couldnt you use the method described here to do the "temproot" in order to get the adb root prompt and change it that way?
I also meant to ask if this has wifi tether enabled. I'm assuming it doesn't.
I want to update GB and new baseband but since I heard so many horror stories about bricking the phone through official update, I still do not dare to try. Besides, I live in Europe and if I bricked the phone it's kinda problematic to return in to the States.
Am I last G2X owner on Froyo???
Nope, i am running stock froyo just rooted and modified to my liking withbout any bloat ware or the OTA software. I havent upgraded because my phone runs like a champ the way it is. Just the other day i was playing Metal Gear Solid with FPSE downloading a torrent with aDownloader while connected to wifi and playing Pandora. Granted i have a 3500mah battery which make this possible with out killing the battery.
Lol i just did the update today via OTA no way in hell am i going to touch the lg tool that bricked phone left and right. I new baseband offers a great deal of stability to signal and allows me to get nearly full bars anywhere i go. do the OTA update instead of the lg tool, much safer and a lot easier.

The phone as a whole is a lot quicker now than what it was with froyo imo even when rooted, which right now is the big downside as i can't seem to get this damn thing to root!
Also NVFLASH apparently roots the device now, so no need for superoneclick. I just put CM7 on it!
It's really up to you, but I'd say the ones with horror stories with the official update are in the minority. The entire process is straightforward, painless and lasts about 10mins. Plus the benefits from Gingerbread outweight the cons imho (like the crappier camera) Ofcourse, If you're completely satisfied with your Froyo installation then my best advice is to not try to fix what you precieve as not being broken.

As for rooting I thought Superoneclick had GB break on it? If not then you need to do xboarders on top of stock GB to get root. Atleast that's as far as I read on the forums.

A search button? Never heard of that before...
To be honest, the method is in pretty much every ROM thread in the dev section.
On another note, my update went through perfectly fine. It did stop at 4% and then restart, then got hung up at 5% for a couple minutes, but I left it there and it got going again. If you want to give yourself the greatest chance of success, I would say reverting to stock 2.2 (I uses tgagunman's nandroid), reverting to stock recovery, and removing root before updating probably helps. It may not be necessary, but I haven't heard as many stories of it not working using that process.
I'm rocking stock ROM + debloated + Faux UV kernel with my own profiles.

Updates start from new england to the east coast, to the south, midwest, west, and finally north west. Be patient or just download and flash the stock gingerbread odin.
Stupid Windows and its want to hide extensions for known file types. I hate that! That's the first thing I turn off when I get into Windows.
Keeps you from doing something stupid like double-clicking on something like this... cutepuppy.jpg.exe. Because of course Windows hides the ".exe" part of the file name so you think it's called "cutepuppy.jpg" instead of the full file name "cutepuppy.jpg.exe". Yeah... instant p0wnage by virus. Can't tell you how many people have fallen for that.
renaming it to update. still did not work. Oh well I might wait for the OTA.

Not to mention that these are usually incremental updates. Meaning that you canNOT go directly from pre-ee4 directly to gingerbread. Even if the GB update was available in your area, you still would have had to be on EE4 before you could go to EP4D.
If you try the update.zip file with your old ED build, you'll most likely soft-brick your phone...just like I did with my friend's Fascinate when I forgot about one of the incremental update zip files.
just an example, my mom has an Droid Incredible, its been what 2 months now since GB started rolling out and she barely got the update maybe 2 weeks ago... I heard something about a layered release of the Charge GB, first to about 1,000 or so people as a soak test then 10,000 the next week and 100,000 a week after and so on

I don't think so, you have to be coming from EE4, which is where you would be if you were stock. I used Imnuts thread "fix any phone" but replaced the ED1/ED2 instruction for the EE4 file posted by pentative here.
Used it and the PIT to get stock EE4, then used the update.zip of EE4 to EP4D
Then rooted and all is well in secretville

maybe it's a stupid question... i'm gonna flash the new ICS Room but i dont want to see any rainbow..

Suggestion since your not familiar with what your bootloaders are...do some reading...
and since ics is still being in the delivery room not born yet....
Do some homework...
If you flashed the ICS kernel and you are seeing rainbow recovery, then you are on Froyo bootloaders.
What carrier

i've not flashed ICS yet, it's from att.. i'm not familiar with what bootloaders are.. according to some things I've read i know this is what "SAYS" kernel what to load until phone starts.. but when i updated froyo to GB with zeus 6 and then ZTR i did not do anything about bootloader just installed a 3e modded recovery and i could flash it well!! i've even got back to stock froyo using odin
froyo stock to ztr means that you most likely are on froyo bootloaders.
Simply flashing a ROM wont update you bootloaders. The easiest way to update bootloaders is through Qkster's Heimdall from my experience. As far as Roger's goes I believe their stock Bootloaders are GB. I am not 100% sure of this, but I believe that is correct.

either qkster's or AdamOutler's back to stock will install GB bootloaders.
None of the custom ROMs have bootloaders built-in, only kernels, modems and such are built in.
Qkster's Hemidall is the easiest I've found. You need to flash the rom first before the checkbox to install bootloaders is available. Then check the box and flash again.
Use hemidall 1 click back to stock uclb3...tick on "install bootloaders" (if the option cannot be ticked flash the the stock rom anyway but leave the hemidall program window open, ensure the phone is has booted uo completely then go back into download mode and then you should be able to tick it and flash over the stock rom together with gb bootloaders) ..then flash entropy dd to get cwm and root with super one click...

Is it really that bad to see the rainbows? Unlike previous Gingerbread kernels on Froyo bootloaders without the rainbowfix, recovery is semi-usable.
If you get the rainbows, you need to flash. If you don't get the rainbows, you don't need to. Best to check if you need the BLs first.
That said, what you've stated so far makes me think you're probably on Froyo BLs.

No that has nothing to do with bootloaders.
Seriously, don't **** with them unless you've confirmed you need them by actually seeing the rainbows.
As the title says this is the new v21y update rooted. You must have the march 2012 baseband or in call audio will not function properly.
Disclaimer:
Not responsible for anything that happens to your device. It is yours and you flash at your own free will.
ROM includes:
v21y 2.3.4 update
Root -unsecured boot.img
init.d support
deodexed (was already that way in the update)
zipaligned
I did not remove any of the bloatware in this version, you should know how to do that yourself.
Known issues..
If you do not have the march 2012 baseband in call audio WILL NOT WORK. You have to update the baseband.

Pulling the update only disenfranchises the unsophisticated G2X owners, those who only use "official" updating methods but it doesn't prevent anyone who takes the time and trouble of learning how to use other methods of updating. The v21y_00.kdz is still available directly from LG: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601918

This isn't a port though. The kernel version is the same as 2.3.3. So it might work might not. Things where definetly changed as far as proprietary files so kernel may be different too

Update using the LG Tool to get the new baseband, NVFlash CWM, then flash this ROM to get root.
