[Q] Droid 2 Global texting limit - General Questions and Answers

I have had a D2G for almost a year and think the message limit of 999 is pointless. Anyone know of a way to get rid of this? I do not have it rooted, or unlocked. Any help/info would be appreciated!

I now have a z4root on it, does this make a difference?

I've noticed that Verizon is much more flexible with complaints vs. customer service. If this is controlled by Verizon, you should call them and complain if you pay for an Unlimited plan, seeing that ~1000 is only 4 times more than 250 texts.
Since this is the global version though, I'm assuming it's controlled by the phone itself and not the carrier, since global versions connect to different networks when travelling between borders.
If it is the phone itself causing this, I'd say check Youtube or Verizon Wireless Support & Forums for answers since this seems like it's a widespread problem.

Ya, it is controlled on the phone itself. I might go talk to Verizon and see if they have any options for me to try. Thanks for the info though. Appreciate it.

I have this running on pageplus with no worries. And yes it will update OTA.
Try to disable the data and enable data if you need to use it.
Contemplating doing this myself. Not sure I have enough reasons to upgrade from my Droid 1 though, considering the hackability factor on the D2G isn't near as great. Maybe if I manage to get a working unlock code. I do travel internationally, though I like the Pro form factor and layout better, but it seems to really suck. Someone convince me.. I need enablers!!
Hi,
If you have a D2G, I believe a droid pro should work too?
How did you activate it? And what settings did you use to get it to pick page plus?
Im not really familiar with P+
, I have a droid pro which I use with a gsm card overseas. I travel to the us about a week a month and verizon's lowest prepaid plan is simply too high for such a short usage. I'm looking for an affordable alternative, at least while the radio band unlock solution comes out and I can put in a prepaid at&t card. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Since P+ runs off of verizon's network, most phones work out of the box. Both of my Droids required no extra config.. just give them the esn, activate, and you're good to go. The 29.95 plan is great if you're out of country frequently and don't need a huge amount of mins in the states.. you get 1200min/1200txt/50mb data.

I have purchased the wifi 10.1, should I have gotten a carrier operated one?

Ok so Ive purchased the wifi operated one for my pops. Hes old and is always back and forth on his microsoft laptop so I figured this would make things a lot easier for him. He likes it so far. He currently has a verizon flip phone that is hooked up on Page Plus. Im not sure how the carrier operated ones work or what they do, can someone explain so I can have a better understanding so I then can figure out if I should return and get him the carrier operated one.
1) Im assuming you can pop a sim card in and pay for a plan but can you make phone calls like a cell phone?
2) is this wifi tablet that he currently have able to make wifi calls atleast?
3) I cant talk him into a smartphone so he will probably never make calls with a carrier based tablet, but he may want to have a data connection continuously when out and about. So im guessing getting a carrier based one would be necessary for this.
4) again, he has a verizon flip phone running on page plus which uses verizons towers, do they make a samsung verizon galaxy tab 2 or just sprint and at&t?
5) I was also considering the galaxy tablet note but baby steps for the old man lol....but I thought he might use the tv/tablet function.......but probably not, too much explaining lol
Any info to clear some things up would be great please.....I only have 15 days to return it.

No, these are not phones, with a carrier operated on you can send text. But you can download a app called TextMe so send text free using wifi or data.

It could but it wasn't deigned for that, but at least the GT2 has front speakers. I did it once, but it was hard on the people I called to hear me.

Yes it would, other wise he has to be close to a wifi to surf the web, but wifi is in a lot of places, it would depend how good is he at connecting to other wifi's.

I love my GT2 10.1" It's connected to AT&T because that is my carrier. The Verizon one I have cost me $30 a month. (I think they got rid of the tab only plan and jammed shared data down their customers throat. So it cost $40 a month.

Yea man, thanks a lot. So basically if I did decide to get the verizon one, he may be able to use his same plan for data?
And while we are on the subject, how the heck do I get his contact off his senior flip phone to a new google account? If he still had verizon, they woukd be synced with verizon and I can grab the .csv file from there site and import in google, but now that he has page plus(verizon towers still), im not sure if he can access the verizon backup site...is there another way without inputting manually?

The international unlocked P3100 version has phone call feature. I'm debating getting this tablet for that feature since my Nexus 7 3G doesn't have it, but there's seems to be less development and the spec and screen resolution isn't as good. Although I do like having microSD slot since even the 32GB on the Nexus 7 isn't enough to hold my craps. People must like this thing a lot since I can't even find used ones for sale. Wouldn't mine more feedbacks from P3100 owners.
Also I'm confused about the carrier bands of this model, GSMArena posted:
HSDPA 900 / 2100 - GT-P3100
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 - GT-P3105
However I read the contrary from Amazon reviews. Can someone confirm does the P3100 version work with ATT and/or TMobile 3G? Otherwise I'll have to pass on it.

I don't know about Page Plus, and how they operate. Sounds like a prepaid account. I only use post paid, because even though prepaid my be cheap for the individual, it could get pricey for a family plan. Personally I think you should have him check out the Note 2. It is big, I owned it for a while, but if I wanted a big phone I could use as a tablet (It even comes with a S-Pen) I would use it. I am not sure how Verizon handles the contacts.
If the flip phone has something called send vcard you can do that with his contacts and then in his google account on a computer import the vcards to his contacts,I did it with my work phone they supplied me

[Q] AT&T Data Plan Question

Hi all,
People on here have been a huge help about this phone so I wondered if any of you would know this.
I have an AT&T branded One X, it has been unlocked and is on a custom rom. I'm not using it as my main phone, and my gf's phone broke now. I wanted to loan her my One X, but I believe she is on the $10 unlimited data plan for "non-smart phones". If she uses the phone, will AT&T know that its a smart phone based on some code in the phone, and is there some setting I can change to avoid this? If its just by data usage, I really don't think she'll use very much cellular data.
Anyway if anyone has any insights it'd be great!

They will know. There's no way to hide it.
As a former AT&T emoloyee, they have a system that detects smart phones. Not only do they detect it, but they will automatically add the $30 plan. Of course they will warn you, but a lot of people ignore it. I would suggest not doing it. Also if coming from a dumb phone, you need to change sim cards anyways. If you don't plan on using the HTC for data, no need to use it. Trust me, it is the same for iPhone and BlackBerry.

The two responses both say this, but AT&T doesn't have magical powers. For a while I had a Nokia N97 Symbian phone that I would call a smart phone, but at the time was on a non smart phone plan. When I upgraded to an Android phone (and got the carrier discount) I upgraded to the smart phone data plan.
If they track the data usage and you only use a small amount of cellular data, then it shouldn't come up. If they track some other info (like the EIN and compare it against a list of AT&T branded phones, maybe?) then there should be something that could be done about this.
Anyone else have any insights?

They track it by what type of data you using. In AT&T systems, there are four kind: pta (LTE), phone (3g/hspa), broadband (tethering), and pdpwap1 (non smartphone). If the system mismatches of what type of phone and plan you should have, then it will go with the plan you are using. This doesn't mean you can have a smartphone then downgrade and lose your data plan. AT&T is too smart for that and they want their money.
Sent from my Carbon-ize Evita using xda-developers app
They detect the imei when using the cellular network. Not just from data usage, they can detect while sending texts, while making calls, anything. The system may not catch it right away but they will catch it. And while I don't see at&t doing so, it would be within their right to backlog you and charge you.

The N97 is an unlocked phone and not AT&T branded. AT&T has all the IMEI numbers for the phones they sell (and can correlate it to phone model), but not for the ones they don't. Its easy for them to read the IMEI number, and therefore know the phone is a smartphone (since OP has an AT&T branded One X). Don't need "magical" powers for that.
Even for IMEI number they don't have a record of, they might still try to tag you as having a smartphone and change your plan (probably by inspecting the data, as already mentioned by another). Folks on here have reported having their plans changed when using various unbranded phones (Nexus line phones, are ones that I remember specifically). But this is far less consistent (as your experience attests).
But for the OP, he is screwed by the IMEI number, and will be caught almost instantly.

Does Insurion insure phones not purchased through Verizon? I have a bricked Galaxy S3 model SCH-I535 (hence why I'm here in this forum, lol) that I bought from some local store at a ridiculous price. I replaced it with a Verizon bought S4, and would like to like to give my wife my S3. I've tried just about everything to breathe that phone back to life. I've tried rebooting into download mode, but it won't take. It just sits there with a red light when it's plugged in; and even though Odin recognizes it, I can't get the phone to accept the flash. I've also tried the class 10 SD card trick with no avail. So I'm thinking that I'm faced with two choices: a. Return the phone to Verizon seeing as how I've been paying to insure it, or b. Send it in for JTAG service. I'm thinking if I can spend $100 for a new phone that I know is in good shape, it would probably be better than getting the JTAG service and gambling about whether or not it would work (even though my hours and hours of troubleshooting lead me to believe it would). Thanks for offering help. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I appreciate you making yourself available to answer any questions. Im not sure if you would know this, but why do i have better 1x signal than i do for 3g, or 4g? The nearest tower is a mile away and i get about 6mbs down on 4g.
1x signal is about -80dbm (outside) (RSSI)
3g i get at best -90dbm (outside). (RSSI)
4g is about -90dbm inside. Outside i can get -80dbm. (RSRP)
Besides the terrible speeds, expensive contracts, limited data, and locked bootloaders, why is my 1x signal stronger than the rest? I wish I could get a better signal at home though :\

S3 SCH-I535 tethering/UK 4g
Hi there - it's been said already, but it's cool of you to open this conversation.
I have a Verizon S3 SCH-I535 that I'm using in the UK. It's running Android 4.1.2 and is international unlocked, I'm using a UK sim card in it. The plan I have here in the UK allows for tethering (and I'm paying through the nose for it!), but when I try to turn on tethering the phone tries to check with Verizon whether my plan allows for it. Obviously it can't get in touch with Verizon and won't allow the tether. I've managed to half get around this with a third party widget which allows for wifi tethering, but USB tethering never works. Even when charging, wifi tethering lowers the battery, so it's not an ideal situation. Is there any way I can remove or work around the Verizon tethering lock?
Also, a bonus question. I'm on Three and they'll be rolling out a 4G network which will work on the 800 MHz and 1,800 MHz frequencies on LTE bands 3 and 20 - will the Verizon S3 SCH-I535 I'm using work with that? It's currently doing great on HSPA+.
Thanks!

Mhm...weird. and 1x is actually verizon's oldest data network. And the lower the dbm is the better the signal. -80 and -90 is good. However once you hit your -100dbm and up then its realy bad. And am sorry your data speeds are so slow. Whats the general zip code for your area?

You can bypass the tether lock subscription through methods of rooting and doing some editing to your phone's framework however I cant condone rooting sorry.

Does Verizon have the ability to take away my unlimited data. I'm one of the few left and I don't think I'll be tempted by an upgrade but if they wanted to could they still say "no more."
If you use a upgrade, you will lose it. If you by it at full price and activate it, you should keep it

Next question, I am on a family plan with 3 smartphones one of which is technically on share everything and 2 of us are unlimited. Could the one share everything steal my upgrade then I would take the new phone and have it switched to my number?

Great question. First off how many lines do you have on your account? and they could take it away but I seriously doubt they will do that to customer who still have the unlimited data plan. Because big red would lose plenty of business if they did that. There are still a good amount of people that have the unlimted plan though

Anyone Using the Oneplus 7 Pro on Verizon in the U.S. and not having issues?

I'm seriously considering buying the Oneplus 7 pro as my next phone. My carrier is Verizon (I can't change it, it's for work) I'm having some second thoughts after reading on these threads about the issues people are seeing with Verizon. I'm curious if anyone has activated the Oneplus 7 pro on verizon that is not having issues with things like not being able to receive calls from iphones and not getting text messages on a wifi connection. This will help me make my decision on if I will move forward with purchasing this phone. Thanks a lot!!!
I have been using the 7Pro with Verizon for about 3 weeks. I have had no issues with Verizon since day one. I think maybe the first couple of days when I received a call from an unknown number it would show restricted on the caller ID. That issue was resolved with the first update I received. As far as activating the phone with VZW, all I did was move my apps from old Galaxy S8+ and then go online to VZW's website and activate my 7Pro and deactivate my S8+. Everything worked from the start. I have been very happy with my 7Pro and VZW.

Almost everything was working with just a sim swap. Except, I wasn't able to receive incoming texts at all, wifi, or on LTE. My sim is on a business line, and a quick call to Verizon help by dialing 611, and let him know I needed CDMA-less provisioning and we activated it, and tested it, and no further issues. I do get VoLTE, but obviously no wifi calling thru Verizon.

Thanks alot for this really good to know. I think maybe a lot of these issues people were having have been resolved with a new update? I'm curious about any trick that makes it easy to move your apps over? I currently have a samsung galaxy S8 and it's been a long time since I switched phones so I don't remember how I did it

Do you have any thoughts on if Google Voice would work? I think it also uses WiFi

I actually used the OnePlus Switch app to move my apps and other files to my new 7Pro. It was rather easy to use. The only real issue I had after moving apps was I had to uninstall and reinstall a few apps because they would not load. Otherwise it was just having to log back in to everything and get everything the way I liked it.

Hey, I'm the one who put a thread together posting the aggregate information at the time for activating the OnePlus 6T on Verizon Prepaid :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/help/discussion-verizon-prepaid-oneplus-6t-t3864541
After successfully activating and using the OP6T on VZW prepaid, I simply popped my SIM into the 7Pro and everything worked fine. None of the issues you mentioned have occurred, in my experience.
You might simply put your current SIM into a 7Pro and see what happens. If you have problems, I'd recommend going to a CORPORATE Verizon store (not a franchise location) for help. They are much more savvy. Make sure that your account has CDMA-less and VoLTE active.
Good luck!

I'm Using mine on Verizon. So far the only issue I have had is visual voicemail. Since I have been on a custom ROM I think its fixed. I did have to call Verizon and have them do the CDMA less deal. I wasn't getting text messages. But it was quick fix. So far I'm liking it better than my pixel 2 XL
Thanks for this is red this is great news to me I have been holding off on buying the phone through OnePlus website. Wi-Fi calling is not really an issue for myself I don't think, forgive my ignorance I'm coming from Sprint where any outside phone you bring there is no way you can be on a call and data at the same time I forget what Verizon causes feature voice over data VOLTE? This is not a problem with Verizon and the OnePlus 7 I assume? Thanks

I had a 6T now the 7 Pro.
I'm not having any issues.
No issues here coming from the Pixel 3 XL. The OnePlus Switch app worked great and as it has been said previously, a few apps required that i uninstall, then reinstall them again to get them to work (maybe 2 out of 50). VOLTE works great and I typically have no issues. The only time I have ran into a problem is occasionally it will say I am connected to WiFi or LTE, but no data will transfer as if I am not connected. A quick reboot solves the issue, but it is not consistent enough to determine if it is an app, Verizon, or the phone itself. Happened maybe 3 times over the last 3 weeks. No Visual Voicemail is disappointing. Also, get a weird, jumbled text from Verizon after every Spam call I get. Will be getting on with Verizon support to see what that is about. Fingers crossed that Google will get it's stuff together with their RCS rollout and it makes it onto OnePlus devices. I can't really think of any deal breaker as far as bringing OP7P to Verizon. At least not for me. Will update if I can think of anything else.
Just to claify...No VVM transcription, video calling, Name ID and Wifi calling otherwise everything else works?

Mms/sms: yes
But more importantly VoLTE does work
(Ie. Using mobile data during a call)
Used to be a big issue on custom or non VZW ROMs on VZW
Do you have to do anything to get your hotspot to work properly the reason I don't buy phones from Verizon is I'm on the grandfathered unlimited data plan meaning I don't get throttled after using a certain amount of data it's only $10 more a month than their so-called unlimited plan they have offer now. If I switch to a Verizon phone they will make me sign up with dere new data plan which only offers 30 gigabytes a month and I would burn through that inside of a couple days. So the reason I've been sticking with my HTC u12 plus is the native hotspot on this international phone works right out of the box since it's not Verizon limited software. I just wondered does your hotspot work flawlessly?

Hi there so how about your phone does it do the hotspot without issue? I know Verizon branded phones you have to have their newer program to use the hotspot and they limit you at 30gb I'm on that old grandfathered plan like I've been mentioning and on my HTC u12 Plus I can tether to my heart's content because it's not Verizon's software limiting my usage of the hotspot. If the 1917 International model of this phone has the native hotspot working I'm buying this thing tomorrow.

Yes, the hotspot works just fine. My wife and I use it every day when our kids want to use their tablets when we're away from wifi. Multiple devices connected to the hotspot doesn't seem to slow it down.
I am no longer on the grandfathered plan, i recently switched to the 'above unlimited'.
But the plan i was on before had no problems with hotspot on this phone, nor my 6T.
But it did track the amount of usage. If we'd go over certain GB it would throttle the speed.
I read on the forums here somewhere there might be a way (by editing build.prop iirc) to trick VZW from telling the difference between mobile data and mobile data+hotspot. Ie, reading hotspot as mobile data only so you can go over your GB cap. I tried it, there were a few lines that weren't the same on this phone, and my family switched to the new unlimited plan before i could test it out
(I was hesitant to switch from my arsenal of HTC phones, too... ?)
I been on Verizon since op7 pro came out, don't know about iphone calls because haven't had any 1 call me who had an iphone. Hotspot worked on stock rom and now on RRS rom. Also issue with visual voice mail but regular works, verizon asks you to make a pin managed on their app

Im in the same boat as you I need to uprage but have a grandfathered unlimited data plan. Seems like the 1plus7 is the phone to get as samsung phones are now locked. anyway have has it worked out for you? did you get a specific model for it to work with verizen? did you root your phone once you got it? Let me know if I can ask you more questions.

I have a galaxy S7 edge. looking to upgrade I would like to get the one plus 7 Mclaren.
I have the Unlimited data grandfathered plan and would like to keep enjoying the hotspot.
I think this is the phone I want but does it meet the criteria? If you have your on verizon can you answer these questons?
1.does the hotspot work without paying verizon a bribe every month?
2.I would like add blocking so rooting it,? does it break the bank apps or fingerprint scanner?
3.are all models able to get on verizon or do I need a specific model? if so which one?
4.does it have any bloat ware like samsung?
