I have this running on pageplus with no worries. And yes it will update OTA.
Try to disable the data and enable data if you need to use it.
Contemplating doing this myself. Not sure I have enough reasons to upgrade from my Droid 1 though, considering the hackability factor on the D2G isn't near as great. Maybe if I manage to get a working unlock code. I do travel internationally, though I like the Pro form factor and layout better, but it seems to really suck. Someone convince me.. I need enablers!!
Hi,
If you have a D2G, I believe a droid pro should work too?
How did you activate it? And what settings did you use to get it to pick page plus?
Im not really familiar with P+
, I have a droid pro which I use with a gsm card overseas. I travel to the us about a week a month and verizon's lowest prepaid plan is simply too high for such a short usage. I'm looking for an affordable alternative, at least while the radio band unlock solution comes out and I can put in a prepaid at&t card. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.
Sent from my DROID PRO using XDA App
Since P+ runs off of verizon's network, most phones work out of the box. Both of my Droids required no extra config.. just give them the esn, activate, and you're good to go. The 29.95 plan is great if you're out of country frequently and don't need a huge amount of mins in the states.. you get 1200min/1200txt/50mb data.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use a Sprint Touch Pro on Verizon WITHOUT activating a data plan? I found directions on how to hack the phone to work on Verizon, but would just like to use Wifi instead of the $30 data plan. Thank you.

call verizon and ask if they will even add your meid to their database.
I talked to Verizon a while back and they insisted up and down that there was no way to add a smartphone manufactured after November 08 without a data plan. I didn't ask anything about phones from other providers so as not to arouse any suspicion.
Basically you just have to call in and see if you could trick them into activating the phone on their service. The IMEI gives the make and model of the phone away though, but perhaps they won't check.
That's a bit of a gamble to buy the phone not knowing if it will work. Going through a person instead of the site will probably get better results though! Hopefully someone here who has done this successfully will chime in
I purchased a Xoom through a wholesaler for full price without any contract.
It is a Verizon labelled device - both wifi and 3G
I don't want to use Verizon as they are rapists on data plans and was hoping to use on the sprint network.
I believe that even though there is no contract, Verizon are SOB's and won't unlock the device, so I'm sure there are some smart people on here who can/will?
I want to use Sprint's network as I will use a lot of data and the unlimited plan is great.
Additionally, I will travel to other countries that have CDMA networks that I would want to utilize when I am there.
But most important is the ability to use on Sprint network - is this possible?
Thanks!
i doubt they will activate the verizon xoom on their network
your best bet would be to tether to your phone for data service

Interesting....I chatted with sprint today and they seemed to think there would be no problem with me running the xoom on their network since I have never had a contact with verizon our other carrier.
Thanks for that other link, it seems incredibly complicated to achieve something that is surely very simple given both verizon and sprint essentially use the same technology?
Hey. I need to know if anyone knows how to do this.. I need some help.
When you subsidy unlock a phone or root an android, you can use a sim card from any service provider, not just the one it had been locked to.
I'll use t-mobile & AT&T for example: If I use my AT&T sim card in my t-mobile branded mytouch4g, AT&T's system cannot detect what kind of device I'm using.
I like that because AT&T's data plans for smartphones are extremely limited, with 5GB/month being the highest one. (also costs something like $50/month.)
BUT they have an unlimited data plan with no softcap for regular phones for $10/month!
I've been subscribed to it while using the mytouch4g for the last six months & used a t-mobile blackberry with it before that.
It's nice not having to worry about overages.. but as you probably know, t-mobile & AT&T use different 3g frequencies so even though my data is unlimited, it's locked to EDGE speeds.
Now finally, to the question!
I just bought a Samsung Google Nexus S for AT&T. How can I modify it so that it does NOT transmit it's IMEI or serial number or whatever it sends that lets AT&T know what kind of phone it is? I don't think just rooting will do it.
I was thinking.. Since there's a t-mobile version too, maybe there was something that could hide or rewrite its identity information. Or maybe someone knows how to manually edit it so that it can send a fake IMEI/serial/whatever.
It'd be cool to be able to use the Nexus so that I can stop waiting for EDGE lol

actually it's quite possible.. almost anything you could want to do on android is. I figured out how already.
I'm currently a Straight Talk Android user (LG Optimus Q). Love the service but not the phone. I have a At&T phone that i love but need to know if anyone know how to program it (At&T Moto Atrix 4G) into a Straight Talk Pre-paid. I know they sell the sim card but is it gonna work with this phone?
I signed up for Straight Talk with my Atrix 4g last week and so far I'm loving it. Since my phone was previously on ATT, I notice absolutely no divergence in behavior or coverage. Except that now I'm not getting dinged for texts or MMS.
I'm going to move my wife's Atrix over immediately.
As long as you buy the sim for a at&t phone there is no issues. Works great. I set my girl up that way and she dont even notice its pre paid...lol...

How to make the switch
I've been reading up on this with much interest. I have an Atrix and have been on ATT for several years. I'd like to stay with ATT but want to try using straightalk. I'm confused on how to make the switch.
Would I just get the sim from straightalk.com and acitvate it? I've been grandfathered in to ATT's "unlimited" data plan. It doesn't bother me to lose that since I'd be getting basically the same thing from straightalk.
Do I have to notify ATT that I'm switching to straightalk, or is that made transparent somehow? Thanks for any input.

I was told that it would only get 3g (it only really ever got 3.5 g anyway lol) and I would just need to buy the correct sim card. You would just need to unlock it. If att will give you the unlock the phone its cool but you should just do it yourself and pick a rom you like.

hey guys. I've been in this love/hate relationship with Verizon for a long time now and am kinda done with them. I was wondering if anyone knew what carrier's network works with the S3. I was pretty sure Virgin Mobile uses Verizon's towers, and if that's true, is there anything special i need to do to make my phone work with them?

Virgin Mobile uses Sprint system and you can not activate Sprint device on Virgin. They just won't do it. This is an agreement that they have with Sprint. How ever, you can activate Verizon GS3 on AT&T or T-mobile without unlocking but getting the DATA working is another story. I have been trying to make the data work with T-Mobile but so far no luck. I can make and receive calls but that's about it. If you know of any way to get the DATA working please let me know.

Ditto PagePlus...works fine and the plans are decently priced unlike AT&T's stupid GoPhone crap...
