This is tough to explain...
At random points a friend of mine tells me that I am sending stange text messages that look like this:
"ME:<Subject: > - What game?"
According to what I see in my text history, It is being sent from my phone. Now out of the 20 or so people I have active text sessions with, she is the only one.
I've been through various ROM's and have had this problem follow. Logic tells me its her phone based on the facts but I can't prove it. I've done a Google search and that returned nothing. Searched around the XDA site and didn't turn up anything.
Has anyone experienced anything the same or similar?

Now excuse me if I am not following you, but
First you say : 1
And then you say : 2
How does something you can see in your phones text log become her phones problem?
It is your phone and it is prolly an app you install since it follows you, or a friend in your midst as they follow you too.

Yea I know, But I've been running with only stock apps for the past 24 hours and it happened again last night. I'm puzzled. Out of all the people I text it just goes to her phone.
Might have to keep my eyes out for the friend in the midst
If its showing as sent from your phone in your phone, then logic would dictate that your phone is the source of this issue. When switching roms, did u do a full wipe before reflashing? Are u sure u are not restoring any apps or configurations whether if its synced with Google or titanium backup? Perhaps u have apps stored on your sdcard? Just a few things to think about.

Maybe your excessive drinking is the cause "drunk texting." Admit it, it's okay, we've all done it. Lol
Sorry, can't say that I have ever experienced that, maybe a friend or flatmate is joshing with you.

Seems the damn site is down more than it's up, which is frustrating because I've come to enjoy the features like it's storage of my text messages, so they just pop back up after I restore a ROM.
Last night I flashed CoreDroid, and then when I tried to relogin to HTCSense, it wouldn't accept my user name, so I went to HTCsense.com and it's down for maintenance.
It's now been down for more than 24 hours. I know they label it "Beta" but it's not rocket science so I'm not sure what the issue is.
Anyone?
It's the same for me to. But when try to log in it says that it can't locate my region. I then checked the website that's when it noticed it was down. I was wondering for how long as well?

Still down. Frustrating since I was relying on them for the track phone and wipe function. I still love their devices, though.
thinks I was only able to get on it once in the past month
Im not sure if this has been discussed before as I did search but cant find anything.
Today I called T-Mobile for the first time to complaint that my MMS is not working (known problem for samsung galaxy s 4g) and asking them when is the update available to fix this issue, and My SMS is in and out as well ?
I didnt tell him what program I have/downloaded on the phone since he didnt ask.
I get transfered straight to higher (level 2) technical support. He said dont touch the phone while he was checking something and the phone will reboot. The phone did reboot and the SMS get fixed.
This is what Alarmed me so much.
The tech support ( I wont publish his name here) know exactly what software I have on the phone (downloaded from the market), what is currently running, he also know I have advance task manager among other thing.
He even knew my Gmail address I use on the phone and google market account.
How is this possible ?
Is there anyway I can block this because I dont like when T-mobile snooping on my phone. If they can see the apps I downloaded on my phone and know my gmail address, know what apps currently running, Can they also access my email through my phone ?
Honestly never heard of that. Thats wild!

dude there are 30 plus million subscribers in t-mobile. unless your a celebrity or a son of bill gates or something they wont waste their time nosing on what you install or who you talk to everyday. anyway that less of your problems if you stress about that, they got your full name and ssn in file and a credit card number. if thay wanted to mess you up thats what they will go for.
I wouldn't sweat it too much, it's just like any computer service company that can push updates to your computer.. All they did was push an update and had your phone reboot.. Now if you had some terrorist shizah on there, then I'd be worried, but other than that, they've probably already forgotten about you!

It doesn't surprise me at all. The OTA capabilities are there in a lot of devices, including your DSL or cable modem. Google owns everything you do on your Android phone, including your location even when you're not doing anything. Unfortunately, the Facebook mentality about privacy is winning.

They've been doing this for years, it's nothing new at all.. Notice how you call and they automatically know what kind of phone you have? Same premise. I've called multiple times with phones that were unlocked from other networks also, they could see the phone, and never cared. Take off your tinfoil hat, there's nothing to worry about.

No matter what phone you have, T-Mobile (and I'd assume AT&T) can find out what phone you are using, even if it's not a T-Mobile branded phone.
I wouldn't worry, they aren't gonna do some stupid **** with that, they just did that to repair your phone. I honestly doubt they'd risk losing a customer over a little thing like that.
Google is the one you should be worried about. They know where your phone is, exactly to the millimeter (I don't think that really works with the Vibrant though. xD).
u called to get your phone fixed didnt you? and they did just that didnt they? if you are so worried about your privacy i got a old motorola razr sitting in my closet, ill gladly trade your sgs4
Google is the devil, and will take over the planet, and join steve jobs. Put on your tin foil hats!
To further this, its done through rescue me. It is built into the kernel. On the Vibrant froyo leaks i have leaked out it is there also. We just remove the Rescue Me app.
I can remove the drivers and credentials from the kernel if people are that concerned about it. I wouldnt be though.

I'm a computer repair tech. One of the first questions I'm going to ask is have you installed any new hardware or software? Most of the time I've found out software was the root problem of the issue. Not always, just Most of the time. So, it doesn't supprise me that he can see what is installed on your phone. It gives him a idea of what the problem can be. I would be more concerned what NSA or space aliens are doing with your phone.

It's not in my pocket when it happens most of the time, so I've ruled out pocket dialing. Has anyone seen this issue or ran into anything similar?
I can't help you, but it would help if you posted what changes you've made to your phone.

I'm running a fresh install of infused 1.6. Its been quite some time since I have installed anything. I installed Lookout to see if would find anything. It didn't. Ok I followed the instructions for installing the rom and love it but, I lost all contacts on sim card. I'm guessing I might have made a mistake. Can anyone suggest a way of recovering them? By the way they were saved to sim.
You didn't save them to Google?
There's no recovery if they're wiped from you're sim .....try saving them to Google next time, you'll be glad you did.
just flashed a different rom and they are on the sim and show up but for some reason they wouldnt show up in tapasOS even when I tried to import them from sim it would say there wasnt any.Would like to use this rom.
Like I said....back them up on Google...and use this rom if that's what your hang up is...if your not gonna use this rom based solely cuz it wont read your contacts from your sim...then your comment about really wanna use this rom isn't true when there's several ways of backing up your contacts and making it happen.
That is such a BS statement if I ever heard one..."I would like to use this rom". But do nothing on your own to make it happen..
Come on people use some common sense and do something on your own without someone holding your hand.
I have been trying to remedy this on my own all day by reading and trial and error. I guess you can feel like a tough guy behind the internet.
Dyin' over here! I
To rephrase the advice given earlier (since sixstring will likely cut out all of those posts later) in whatever rom will read your contacts, back them up to your Gmail account. That way, you'll always have access to them on any rom.

Verizon can see if you are rooted and any custom rom or modified kernel you are using. They have full access to all the information in the "about phone" screen in settings. If they wanted to deny a warranty claim due to being rooted, all they would have to do is look on their systems and see what you were running.

They can see your radio version every time you connect to their towers, They can see your software/kernel/baseband if they like through the information your phone sends to them as you use it. Also they still have stuff like Carrier IQ on phones that COULD even read you your text messages if they wanted. Dont think they cant see it because they can. They just dont let you know they can because it could be considered illegal.

Seeing the radio version doesn't tell any carrier that someone is rooted. Being rooted is software related not radio related. Not unless custom radios are around, which is not available for the tbolt and im sure not for any other phone for that matter.
The only info phones send to the network is account information so the tower knows whether or not to provide service. That's it.
If they knew more details about a device then they would have no reason to ask us about our phone. They wouldn't waste their time as the info would pop up on their computer screens. If they saw anything other than the latest official OTA, then they would tell you that they can't do anything and that you voided your warranty so even switching back to stock won't make them change their mind.
The fact they would "waste" time to find out every detail from you pretty much sums up that this info is NOT available to them. CSRs like to help the customer as quickly as possible to get them off the line and help the next. And at this moment, asking customers about their phones is the quickest way.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
So you think that those little forum signatures that can tell you what OS you are running, what browser and even your IP know more about your phone than your carrier?
Must be nice to be that gullible.
Think what you will, I know for a fact they can see the information. They literally don't care. The warranty is through another company and has nothing to do with Verizon. It is also perfectly legal to root your phone and do what you want with it as of July 26 2010 http://www.androidguys.com/2010/07/26/rooting-android-phone-longer-crime/
The only thing it does is void any extended warranty you bought. So do restore to stock for returns to asurion and the likes.
They ask you because the lower tier CS people do not have access to your phone information, if you are escalated enough you will eventually find someone who can and will rattle off all your information to you.
If you can provide proof then I will take back what I said and apologize. I've played dumb before in the past just to see if it was possible for tier 2 and 3 (technical departments) to know this information. I simply stated that I didn't know how to access the about phone section. They tried to "help" me access this section and i pretended I was getting frustrated. I asked them to see if there was a way for them to see it on their systems and they told me no. They couldn't "help" me with my pretend issue unless I gave them this info. So all I was given was generic troubleshooting tips. They then stated to take it to the store for the CSR to look at my phone for the software version. I did this on a couple of occasions just to get a different Rep each time.
Yes, your mobile browser sends browser info to a website, and OS info. User agent strings are sent so that a website will know how to display the website on the browser. You can easily set the user agent to the stock HTC user agent. But this is irrelevant to Verizon as I can install different browsers on my phone which have unique user agents for each one. Just because my phone sends a dolphin user agent or maxathon user agent and not the stock HTC user agent, this does not imply I am rooted.
OS version is very easy to hack. You can edit this by going to the build.prop and change the OS version to the stock version and I'm sure there is a hack to fake the kernal (you might have to recompile the kernal to change the name)
All the IP address provides is the owner of the IP address (i.e. verizon) and in some cases, the general location of where the IP is being used. Verizon's LTE/EHRPD network use private IP addresses so it would be difficult to pin point a phone or information based on IP. This network uses Dynamic IPs so your IP will not be the same all the time. You have to pay extra to get a static address (business account). It is illegal to use an IP to gain access to any additional information unless a court order demands this.
The point of this is that you can pretty much make your rooted phone appear stock if it was really necessary to do so. Its a variant of Linux and Linux is very easy to work with if you know what you are doing.

OS version is very easy to hack. You can edit this by going to the build.prob and change the OS version to the stock version and I'm sure there is a hack to fake the kernal (you might have to recompile the kernal to change the name)

Yup, does anyone just randomly do this though?
Sorry to cause the topic to get sidetracked like this, I was just trying to point out that Verizon don't care if we root or not.

If you can root your phone, then its a start. Your typical average user doesn't know what root means or even care what possibilities exist. I am pretty much the only person at my job who is rooted and I've had people ask me how I got my phone to look a certain way and they want their phone like this. When I explain the root process, they say screw that. Most people I know who are rooted know exactly what they can do with a rooted device. And new comers to rooting eventually pick up speed. Linux may be intimidating at first, but once you play around, you see how easy it is.
