Was thinking it would be easy for new people coming to the Droid Charge to be able to download 1 package and get everything you could possibly need (besides kernels) to flash your phone.
MANY APOLOGIES THAT I HAVE NOT BEEN AROUND AND THE PAGE HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED. THE FTP SERVER THAT FILES WERE ON HAS SINCE BEEN REMOVED AND I WAS NEVER INFORMED.
YOU CAN GO TO MY DROPBOX PUBLIC PAGE AND DOWNLOAD FILES YOU MAY NEED HERE (CHARGE ROOT)
Use the updated steps found here for rooting your charge. (ROOTING GUIDE).

Thanks for putting this together. In the next version it might be a good idea to add the EE4 Odin file.

UM. GummyCharged FE 1.9 is EE4. That's why it's labeled Android 2.2.1.

Your welcome and once again, good job!
I think the intention behind this is great, but I do worry that including PST, Heimdall, and two different builds of Odin is going to lead to more confusion, not less, for new people. You'd be better off just including one build of Odin and Heimdall, I think.
I'm not sure why people even use PST, as it's just needlessly complicated.

Some people use PST and seem to get it to work better then Odin. I myself have never used it. The 2 version of Odin are for future and retro builds that some of the devs use. And Heimdall was a preference thing. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll talk to the rest of the devs today and revize the package. v2 coming out tonight.
CHARGE KIT v2 now ready for download.
Update:
latest ODIN
Stock Froyo, Stock Gingerbread.
Smaller download
Like was stated before, the intention is good. You may want to think about having a separate kit for both froyo and gingerbread. I can see someone now flashing gingerbread and the voodoo kernel.

help me please im a noob
just rooted my phone using this package. it went well used odin newest version with cmw voodoo kn the newest cmw folder and it did good but read that there was no kernel so i wanted to put on the peanut butta one and i followed the directikns but couldnt put it jb recovery mode so i downloaded the clockwork mod off the app store and used the option on that to put in recovery mode but all it did was restart the phone and now it gets stuck on the samsung logo . can anyone please help sorry for being such a noob thought i had it figured out. thanks yall. my email is [email protected] thats the best way to get a hold of me thanks again. awesome site. loving the support
I'm gessing you are trying to get back into "recovery" so hold down vol up + home key + power You will see samsung . Continue holding. It will come go away then come back. When you see samsung the second time. let go of all three buttons. It will finish by booting into recovery. From there use the kernel .zip file that you saved to your sdcard and flash. All set, you now have the kernel of your choosing.
Great idea. You should include the charge PIT file as well.

Nothing...I just didn't want to offer a 20 page list of equally good ROMs so I used the ones I have tried.
After months of waiting and finally getting over my fears of flashing, I rooted and flashed the stock 2.2 rom to my captivate today!
my opinion, just use the stock 2.2. it's frickin amazing. I'm thrilled and can't believe it took this long for me to build up the courage to flash. from the gps working to the beautiful text to speech ( which I'm using to write this even as we speak..lol); I can't get over how much I love this.
So, use the odin flasher and have fun!
Many thanks to all the developers on XDA who worked so hard to get 2.2 out all of us!

How do i use odin? Do you have a link?
I can't speak in regard to other ROMs as I have only tried working with Cognition.
The thing is, if you can handle the complexities of Lagfix, installing Cognition is a piece of cake. The instructions that nbs11 posted are pretty much it, except that you should disable whatever lagfix you used before you do it, and use Android ID changer to back up your Android ID. As far as Odin goes, you only need it if:
1. You really like your phone to be clean before you upgrade
2. Something goes wrong.
I panicked the first time something went wrong. I should tell you my story. I forgot to use Android ID changer, and also forgot to copy the data from a few other things from my original Eclair build. So, I went back to one of my backups. I didn't realize that the backup didn;t include the kernel, so the rolled-back phone no longer booted. Odin to the rescue. It flashed an idiot-proof stock version, then I used ROM manager to get to my backed-up data, re-flashed with Odin, and ran the Cognition backup. It all worked fine.
TL;DR. You just need ROM Manager and a little planning, and Odin will bail you out in the off chance you screw something up.
Someone who likes setting up a phone less than I do should make a back-up checklist.
Oh, and here's a link to everything you need to know about Odin:

I'm officially changing my mind. I've been using Cognition 3.04 now for about a week. I've not run into ANY issues. In the first week of using the leaked "official" 2.2 release, I'd already run into a few minor bugs, then over the course of a month, ended up with a fun that was stuck in a reboot loop...totally random issue, nothing had changed on the phone, it just went nutz on me.
I flashed to Cognition and am absolutely LOVING it!!! If you're going to flash a ROM, skip the "official" leaked 2.2 and go for Cognition. It's great! Smooth, fast, and without bloatware.
I do have to admit, yes I know I'll catch some flak for it, but I do miss the Samsung Media Hub (Cognition has it removed as Bloatware). Other than that....no issues at all!
Has anyone used these methods on a Rogers Captivate (I897)?

awesome thanx for figuring it before i had to try a thousand combonations...
This is awesome!
How long should it stay at Samsung after doing all of the steps? I did all of the steps. Samsung flashed several times. Now its just staying at Samsung. Been this way for a couple of minutes.
sdcard issues
ok, first of all I did this and everything worked fine.
Upon first reboot, I think it went 4 or 5 times through the samsung bootloop and then loaded the rom (i wasn't watching it fastidiously).
Upon loading the rom and loading my apps from titanium backup, I finally hit the issue of not being able to move apps to the sd card; it just comes up with "failed to move application". I've rebooted just to make sure things weren't off from first boot. It's still not letting me move any apps to sd (even if allowed in the os).
Any ideas on what to try next?
I'm still at Samsung logo. Don't think its going to load the Rom. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Following the steps. This is the second time I've tried this.
NM, figured it all out.
Going to give it a shot shortly.
This failed to work 3 times. Going back to RFS Gummy.

From what I have read over at Rootzwiki, that seems to be a problem exclusive to Imnuts' hacked kernel (possibly, he posted that he is looking into it as some users used his kernel and didn't have this problem). This process uses another kernel.
I was waiting for more users to give reports back, but I might just give this one a go.

Sucks that the imnuts kernel isn't working right yet. I would love to have the EP1Q kernel working on this, would be much more ideal.

I executed this method using Imnuts kernel and kept root (Thankfully). However I looked at the post to confirm EXT4, and my Terminal Emulator doesn't match the one posted at all. Right now, it's just showing data and dbdata on EXT4, the rest is still on RFS. Is this normal for GB? I can post the exact coding if needed.

DISCLAIMER:
The whole point of putting out Heimdall packages is to make flashing safer, faster and easier but please use some common sense and read before you wildly click on stuff. No one listed in this OP nor myself, God, Satan or any other being (Supreme deity or not) is responsible for what you do with these files. If you brick something, you did it, so man up and own your mistakes (and hopefully learn from them).
Epic Heimdall Packages:
The title should be self explanatory. Use these with Heimdall to flash your Epic back to stock or to flash CWM recovery. Do NOT re-partition unless you have an absolute good reason to (Like coming back from MTD and you know EXACTLY what you are doing). 99% of the time you will NOT need to re-partition.
Thanks to:
Nubecoder for putting these packages together
Drockstar and Rodderik for putting the purple CWM 3.1.0.1 together

I never could get heimdal to recognize the epic when plugged into my imac although I haven't tried with lion. Supposedly this there was a secondary boot loader bug that got fixed on most galaxy s variants with froyo but we epic owners never got it. Works great on my PC though.

The bootloaders are not contained in these packages.
I doubt your bootloaders have been changed though, to my understanding they haven't changed in a while (or ever).
The only other thing would be the modem...
I need to add the EC05 modem to the EI22 package, so it is a nice and easy to flash the delta update zip in cwm to get updated.

Thank you for this. I finally got around to un-rooting / returning my wife's phone to stock. Now I can take it into the Sprint store. This should be the default method to return rooted phone to stock in the wiki, as it is quite easy if you follow the Heimdall instructions.
Can this be used to go back to BML from MTD instead of Odin? I'm guessing not since we can't repartition but wanted to make sure.
Just what everyone wants.... another thread about a bricked phone.
I have no idea what happened to my phone.... I have been running Valhalla Final for a week now with no issues to speak of and lost all my ringer tones after a failed attempt to put sound on a boot-loader using Absolute System. I rebooted into recovery and tried to restore my nandroid which failed when it said unable to unmount system. when I rebooted it had fc in android.core multiple times so I rebooted again and after it loaded had no control. did a battery pull and then would not go past the power up screen. downloaded heimdall one click file T959V-UVKJ6-One-Click.jar and put it into download mode. flashed and it went fine until factoryfs failed. now still in download but img is pic of phone to computer. last 2 attempt was
SMS-KJ6-beta2d_Stock-Rom_with_Bootloaders-One-Click.jar and it failed first at loading the modem and then at loading recovery.
I am lost. seems like everything I try makes it little worse. Have not tried ODIN yet.
Is there any hope or am I out a phone?

Grab chadster's KG4 here. I believe it has ODIN 1.85 included in the file. Don't mess with any of the check boxes in ODIN; let ODIN decide what to check.
After that, you should be able to get back to KJ6 via a one-click.
Shady grab Ravers stock GB and honks GB odin kernel. Flash Ravers, If you can, then honks. That will give you stock plus cwm. You know where to go from there. Funny thing is just yesterday FB had a post about leaving BOOTLOADERS alone w/o unbrickable mod. Good luck.

Are you going with the chadsters leak or ravers stock?
I don't know why you guys keep recommending old (leaked) ROMs to debrick with.
@Shady if you see anything posted by myself, dsexton, bhundven or raverx3x you can bet that we've tested it extensively and that it'll work on your phone.
On that note I recommend you read the whole page here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
Download from the SMS KJ6 (beta2d) Kernel Stock Rom with Bootloaders link. This will get you a one click flash solution that you can go back to when you have problems. This, unlike the KG4 file others have been recommending, is the latest version of gingerbread (KJ6 is 2.3.6) and you'll have a custom kernel + root to boot so you can get flashing other gingerbread ROMs. I hope you don't have trouble flashing, and if you do, read the OP to what I linked you to. All the instructions are there.
I know this file has been failing for you but you can try restarting your computer and flashing it from safe mode. When your computer is booting up, keep pressing F8 until you get a menu. Pick "Safe mode with networking" from the menu using your arrow keys and press enter.

A video would be perfect. Been busy with school since I just started and now I got a gig making a website so I'm also working on that.

I've never done the video thing. Guess I can research it and give it a go.
With everyone fleeing the Charge (lol) I figure I might as well pick your brains while I can. It seems we could use a full Odin FP1 so everyone wouldn't have to go back to EP4 and take OTA's. Nandroid backups don't seem too reliable and are version specific. I've never had an issue with Odin and it seems a better backup/restore process. What I've read so far states that I need unix to build a full Odin. Any suggestions on what flavor of unix? What about ROM and theme development? Unix or Windows?

Well you won't be able to pull everything you need for a full odin (at least in the sense of what people use when going back to EP4). Check out this thread for some info on making an ODIN.
Ubuntu is probably pretty widely used for development in Android. At the least I'd dual boot it with Windows or run it from a USB drive.
The flavor of Linux is just a matter of preference really....One doesn't have any major advantages or disadvantages over another distribution.

I read the entire thread too. Still confused since someone had to make the full EP4 Odins in the first place. I'm used to beating my head against the wall at work so I'll just have to give it a shot. :banghead:

LOL - yeah it can be. I'm pretty sure the full ODINs we see are actually leaked in some way - but how that goes about I have no clue.
