SmartSMSVibrate is an application for Android Phones 2.0+ .
With this application when you receive a Text Message (SMS), SmartSMSVibrate will check if you have your phone in your pocket/holster. If your phone is in a closed environment (in your pocket/holster), then the phone will vibrate. If your phone is in a open environment (on the table), then the phone wont vibrate.
This is done using the proximity sensor.
Try it out, its free on the Market - "SmartSMSVibrate"
More info can be found on my website:
http://carstendressler.com/smartsmsvibrate/
The link doesnt work "Password Protected" Also im writing an article for the XDA Portal about this app, looks cool!
Anyway to make it work on Android 1.5? My friend is stuck with 1.5 on the Cliq XT until Motorola gets their act together.
I removed the Password Protected stuff already. Can you check if its gone now?
It should work in 1.5x. I will need to test first.
There was a bug reported, when installing from the Market, the default settings arent getting applied correctly. This causes the app to vibrate all the time. The temp fix is to disable all the settings in the options. Then re-applying them fixes it. I will patch it this evening when I get home (10.7.2010).
not working on my evo, always vibrating even after turning all settings off and turning back on
I just pushed the fix. Version 1.1
For those who have 1.0 installed. There are two ways to fix it. Either uninstall and reinstall the app. Or check all the options, then uncheck them all again. Then apply the settings of your choice.
Please let me know if anything else comes up.
This is my first Android app

There is an app on the market called SensorViewer. Install it and get me the readings of the Proximity values when you cover your phone and when you dont have it covered.
Once you can give me that info I can add support for your model.
Thanks
Carsten
Doesnt work on 2.1 eclair with Samsung Galaxy S Captivate!

Thanks!
Nice idea!
Will give it a try as soon as it's considered to be stable.
Will this drain the battery? Is it polling and checking with the proximity sensor constantly?
Great idea mate!
Any idea on how it affects battery life?

This only checks if the phone is covered when a SMS is received. So if no SMS, then it will not drain your battery.

Same here for Samsun Galaxy S cativate with SensorViewer !
Doesn't seem to work with EVO with newest version. Still vibrates while on the desk.
Like the app concept though, hope it works correctly in future versions.

Thanks for the info. I updated the site.
Hi,
After the success of the beta programme (over 100 people wanting to signup!) I decided it was time to re-write the platform to allow me to add more features and improve the overall "feel" of it. I also have plans to commercialise the platform, allowing it to be used by businesses/individuals who wish to monitor devices remotely.
The client application for Android is available freely from here and can be included in a custom ROM if you wish to make it persistant across factory resets. I do ask that if your are a ROM developer that you let me know before you do this, and also credit me in your release notes.
There will be 3 main licenses available to you:
Basic
Standard - comming soon
Expert - comming soon
(These apply to your account)
Basic
FREE!
Single device per account
GPS Location
Alarm-on-Demand
Standard
£0.99
Single device per account

Network Location
Alarm-on-Demand
LiveTracking
Includes software updates for 12 months
Expert
£2.99
Multiple devices per account (limit of 5)

Includes software updates for 12 months
I am also considering the possibility of an API which a business could use to extract information and use it in their own way. Please contact me if you are interested.
How to install?
Remove any older versions from your device
Install the latest version from above
Goto "http://promethium.mobi" and signup
On your phone, follow the instructions to register your device against your account
Login to "http://promethium.mobi" and have fun!
I haven't moved any old accounts over, so you should signup again.
Enjoy,

Hi,
I have created a geolocation app a bit like MobileMe or htcsense.com for any Android 2.2 device with Market. Allows you to show your device on a map and make the alarm sound, all via a web portal.
http://promethium.mobi/
This site is the main portal, There will be limited accounts to start with, just 20. These will be BETA accounts as I need people to trial the system to get feedback etc. Currently the email address has to be unique, but doesn't need to be a valid address, however this will be useful when you try and report issues.
Once you have signed up, the latest APK for the client application will be downloadable from the portal toolbar. This app will ask for the same login credentials used on the portal, and once connected you are ready to use the portal functions.
Check the site periodically, as I will allow more signups as the application progresses.
Please can we keep all bug reports within this thread, I would rather develop this in the open.
Enjoy,
Rich

OK people!
Thanks to all those who already registered, just a few spaces left if people want to signup. Please only signup if you are happy to engage in helping me improve this platform... any accounts created but not activated within a day will be removed!
So far I have made quite a few alterations, improvements to the UI on the portal, as well as more interactive feedback. This means that you need to re-download and install the client app - this will overwrite the current one, and will keep all existing settings
Enjoy!

One more suggestion though, idk if it's possible, could you have it force turn on gps? I normally leave it off so if I actually do lose my phone, it would just give me the giant radius of the cell tower location...
Also, I notice you're using dyndns. Is the computer/server you're running it on going to be up 24/7?
**EDIT**
One more suggestion, a "My Phone's Location" button on the portal that snaps to the location and centers it.

Sorry, starting from Android 1.5 cupcake, you cannot programmatically toggle GPS. It should be fine to leave it enabled though.

Hitting "Refresh Location" does this now, but it takes up to 5 seconds to move across the map, I will look at making it snappier

I have read through the SDK documentation and the best you can do is prompt the user to enable it. So kind of misses the point
I have also altered the JavaScript code so that clicking on the location refresh button zaps you to the marker instantly, but you still have to wait until the phone updates the server to see the latest result

Thanks for the positive feedback - glad you like it so far.
Yes, more features will be coming soon, including a "Lock" ability. This is quite a complicated one though, might require the user to select a "secure" lock screen prior to first use.
I also thought of some wicked uses for the Nexus S, but that will have to wait until I get time ( here's a clue: Peekaboo! )

I've found a new way to BLOCK ANY permission for android applications! Successfully tested denial on few different kind of permissions!
It's a great news for me, and prossibly to any of you too.
The application will be completely native except user interaction part (GUI), so lightning fast, and will have access virtually to any permission granted by apk itself. There will be much logic included to ease of use for unexperienced users, but also the advanced mode which will reveal all the system level functions/data. Advanced iptables control will probably be included also at the later development stages.
Any developer experienced with NDK + SDK is kindly asked to contact me.
PS. This thread WILL be the thread for the application itself. I expect to make first alpha's in two months or earlier.
Reserved for future use

The question is - did you check apps behavior (reaction) on permission denial?

I cannot check this on every app available (for obvious reasons), but I suppose most of them will work. We'll see after first alpha, I'll check it on my own app set which is rather big (the main reason LBE and PDroid buth fails - too much CPU overhead).
UPDATE: Removing unreliable info. Shame on me for reposting smth before fact checking.
Privacy Blocker is the app with patching apk method, not the Stericson' one.

Nice chat guys, but first of all, I just told that neither permissions denied nor mine app will change the apk, so asking me about commenting such app is quite inaprioriate, and second, there are two threads about LBE wher even I said my opinion about it, so please, go there and read .

I am asking because of the same software niche not because of the same principle of operation. If your application solves the same task/problem with less overhead - that's good. We'll see.
BTW is your app must be run in background all the time?
If yes what will be the effect if your program terminates on error or is closed by external application?

Only effect it would cause is no GUI, but denial still working. GUI can be simply restarted (or restarted automatically).

In the English USER manual for the Mate 9, there is a section describing the SMART CONTROLLER ir remote controller application and how to use it. Its quite clear that for my Mate 9 that this application is NO WHERE to be found. I have this model: (6GB/128 GB Model MHA-AL00 / Build Number: MHA-AL00 C00B137). I have the 2 SIM version sold by a HK seller on eBay.
I was able to find and load the SMART CONTROLLER ir application (apk) for the Huawei P9 from another Huawei site online. There were a couple "wrong version for your device" messages during the install, but the app loaded and seems to function normally.
My questions...
- Has anyone else had this issue?
- Is there a version of this program specific for the Mate 9 I could get my hands on?
- What are others recommending as far as a ir remote control application?
Thanks to all.

I'm using the same version as you and I have the app ir remote control.... It's working good but the learning function doesn't work almost all the time.... So don't worry download Anymote ir remote control and you will be very happy...

I personally disagree that a different IR app is better. The learning function doesn't work very well, but once you get it working, you can have it control anything. I've got my Mate 9 controlling my lighting, my TV (it's a strange brand so none of the apps know the codes for it, so I needed to use the learning function) and my air conditioner. It's pretty great.

Is Anymote able to learn? Trying the free version, but it's telling me learning is not supported on my Porche Design Mate 9. Or do you mean Anymote Home?
The built-in IR app is working decently anyways, I just programmed it to control my pretty much unknown room Ventilator/Light and it seems to work just fine, first time I'm able to get a phone to control it, never found it in any app's database. Not the most fancy or flexible thing I've ever seen, but it gets the job done. As long as your real remote is sending a decent signal, it looks like the learning is pretty consistent.

Hi!
I'm new here and I'm developer. Unfortunately, I can't post my app to XDA: DEVDB yet. But I can ask the community something at least.
I'm working on the app for Digital Wellbeing. The goal of the app the same as for all digital wellbeing apps. To reduce mindless smartphone usage.
So, my questions are:
1. Do you use any Digital Wellbeing apps?
2. What are these apps? App Blockers? Screen time stats?
3. Do you think screen time and all that Digital Wellbeing stuff are important?
Thanks,
UPDATED:
App posted to XDA Dev DB: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-acture-app-reduces-mindless-t4095947

The app is a bit different. The main idea is to ask the user to type a reason after every phone unlock. By doing this user defines a goal before using the phone.

Q3. dark mode presnt?
Q4. Root/non root
Q5. when it will release?
