Digital Wellbeing apps - Android General

Hi!
I'm new here and I'm developer. Unfortunately, I can't post my app to XDA: DEVDB yet. But I can ask the community something at least.
I'm working on the app for Digital Wellbeing. The goal of the app the same as for all digital wellbeing apps. To reduce mindless smartphone usage.
So, my questions are:
1. Do you use any Digital Wellbeing apps?
2. What are these apps? App Blockers? Screen time stats?
3. Do you think screen time and all that Digital Wellbeing stuff are important?
Thanks,
UPDATED:
App posted to XDA Dev DB: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-acture-app-reduces-mindless-t4095947

Yes we use digital wellbeing app to limit our screen time...
Can your app function like one plus zen mode??

The app is a bit different. The main idea is to ask the user to type a reason after every phone unlock. By doing this user defines a goal before using the phone.
What do you think about it?

Q1. is it open source?
Q2. can it work without google or gapps?
Q3. dark mode presnt?
Q4. Root/non root
Q5. when it will release?
pls provide link after release
Best Wishes frm me.

The concept is very good!!!
Implementation is a bit disappointing...
Saw some reviews on ps...
App doesn't always start by itself,, sometimes late,,,
That dismiss option..... ?
But keeping in mind it is still in early stages,,, it is doing its job well
Lastly keeping the app open in background, how much battery does it consume...
N if possible, make a root version too for force implementation...
Nice work though
Keep it up

To reduce mindless smartphone usage.I am currently using app-forest,This is a really great app.

[App][1.6+] Whistle App, Trigger your phone with whistle - Testers wanted

Hi all, I've published my first app and would like your advices, it's called Whistle App listens for a whistle and responses with user defined image presentation and sound playing.
in fact i'm working on an open source project which provides audio analysis api for java applications (android compatible), i want to test whether it works on different devices, thanks!
Market link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.whistleapp
Project on Google code: http://code.google.com/p/musicg-sound-api/
Won't this application be heavy on battery?
I would like to test for you but unfortunately its incompatible with my galaxy mini. Can you expand the compatibility range? Thanks
Slide(it)d from my crappy galaxy mini
Unlock with a whistle would be cool.

It only works when you start the problem, it's not an app in background service. Actually i've a thinking to make it as service but as you said, it would be a battery demanding issue

I've checked and it supports with the device Galaxy Mini(GT-S5570), have you got any error message during the installation?

same thinking here. But i've tried the unlock permission is allowed to unlock and bring to this app only. If the app is waken by a whistle, after the user quit this app, he still need to unlock the screen by his finger. It may have a proper way to unlock the screen by an activity, i hope.

I didn't get to installation... When I click on market link it redirect me to some device 3.0 page with dialog app not found and this only make apps which are not compatible with my device. Or its not available in Czech market

Android permissions management - LBE Privacy Guard alternative

I've found a new way to BLOCK ANY permission for android applications! Successfully tested denial on few different kind of permissions!
It's a great news for me, and prossibly to any of you too.
The application will be completely native except user interaction part (GUI), so lightning fast, and will have access virtually to any permission granted by apk itself. There will be much logic included to ease of use for unexperienced users, but also the advanced mode which will reveal all the system level functions/data. Advanced iptables control will probably be included also at the later development stages.
Any developer experienced with NDK + SDK is kindly asked to contact me.
PS. This thread WILL be the thread for the application itself. I expect to make first alpha's in two months or earlier.

Of course. So let it stay at pm as you already started . We'll move here depending on the case .
I am interested but I am not a developer.
The question is - did you check apps behavior (reaction) on permission denial?
I get FC for some software with this tool market.android.com/details?id=com.stericson.permissions&hl=en

I cannot check this on every app available (for obvious reasons), but I suppose most of them will work. We'll see after first alpha, I'll check it on my own app set which is rather big (the main reason LBE and PDroid buth fails - too much CPU overhead).
UPDATE: Removing unreliable info. Shame on me for reposting smth before fact checking.
Privacy Blocker is the app with patching apk method, not the Stericson' one.
frsp2 said:
I've read somewhere on local forum that com.stericson.permissions application just changes manifest and reinstall apk with patched one.
This info is not mine so I can't prove or disclaim it at this time.
Can you confirm that info is correct and your method is totally different?

As far as I know, neither the app you describe, neither mine will not change anything in apk. I think it was just a rumour.
Could you please comment on this app too

What app?
Privacy blocker should not run in background - it patches apk content.
Modified files:
classes.dex
MANIFEST.MF
MYKEY.RSA
MYKEY.SF
I see no reason to drain battery here.

Nice chat guys, but first of all, I just told that neither permissions denied nor mine app will change the apk, so asking me about commenting such app is quite inaprioriate, and second, there are two threads about LBE wher even I said my opinion about it, so please, go there and read .

I am asking because of the same software niche not because of the same principle of operation. If your application solves the same task/problem with less overhead - that's good. We'll see.
BTW is your app must be run in background all the time?
If yes what will be the effect if your program terminates on error or is closed by external application?

Only effect it would cause is no GUI, but denial still working. GUI can be simply restarted (or restarted automatically).

Sehr gut! This is the right way to go.
Also is your future app support real-time notification of permission requests?

Probably not. I know it's a good thing, but it has it's flaws too. We'll see later.

[Q] how to force auto-update specific apps @ predefined timings?

as above - for example, some apps only allow auto-update every 12 hours. what i want to achieve is - to have all my news feeds/emails/evernote synced and updated before I leave house in the morning (so we can tap on the WIFI instead of 4G). is there an app I could use to achieve that?
Thanks!

what I need : auto-update at fixed timings - e.g. every 7am and 10pm.

[APP][4.3+] Magnify for Instagram - Automatic Hashtag Insertion - Feedback Please

Hi All,
I made this new app which acts as an extension for Instagram on Android to help you add curated hashtags to your photos automatically within the Instagram app without having to switch to a different app for that.
How to add hashtags?
-> Open Instagram, select your photo and proceed
-> On the caption area just type in this format magnify_tagsname or magnifytagsname where tagsname is the Tag Category Name
-> For example, for adding Nature related tags you can type magnify_nature or magnifynature , also for Food tags you can type magnify_food or magnifyfood
Other Features
-> You can schedule your posts for Instagram with this app
-> You can also repost a photo with this
Go ahead, give it a spin and let me know if you face any bugs or other issues.
Download from Google Play -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.upcurve.magnify
Also please comment your suggestions or thoughts on this so that I can improve and make this a better app for everyone. :fingers-crossed:
New update released with some scrolling behaviour issues fixed.
Some feedback would be helpful in making it better
The repost slider doesnt stick so the feature dont work. Also i suggest lowering the price of that app. I was gonna buy it, but 5 eur is too much. 1-2 eur i would pay for it, but not 5.

Just bought it to try out the custom tags feature. Its very slick on how it works. I like it. I'm gonna be trying this out some more in the coming week. One request though, could you make some of the preexisting categories hide-able? I have no use for any of them and would like to hide them to keep stuff clutter free. If this can't be done, I can work around it though. Thanks again for the awesome app!

The repost feature is only available in Pro, like other features such as adding your own custom tags and scheduling unlimited posts.

Sorry but it would be unfair to all those users who bought the premium version. You can use the basic tags if you are not willing to pay. Cheers!

How to restrict apps and internet access on Android (for an teenager)

Hi!
To help someone in my family, i need to disable access to Internet for specific apps. For example, access to WhatsApp but not to any web browser (or only for selected websites).
This person had an iPhone before and this was very easy to do on it
I already tested Open Time Limit but this seems to be too much easy to disable.
Do you know any app (working rootless if possible) or any custom rom that would allow that?
EDIT: And if the app is open source, thats even better!
A huge thank if you can help me
You can use ScreenTime.
There you can also set Timers.
and you can Block permanently apps like Settings.

About Gapps, he wants his phone to run without Google so no gapps (would be too easy )

Opensource apps could be found at some repositories
You can also use netguard thats free on fdroid and block internet access to specific applications while letting the others work.
