Ähhmmm, you cannot flash the kernel, as we have a locked bootloader.
The kernel has to be loaded by fastboot every bootup.
I have never tried this but I think flashing a new official sbf should fix it.

I can not get into recovery, because my volume button up was broken . Who have other way to wipe data or go to recovery?
thanks everyone

try this way ,
-take the sdcard out and
- leave the phone without sdcard and then flash the stock 2.1 sbf with the RSD

You can get to the triangle screen, but you can't do the volume up+gallery down+tap camera step? Is your volume button completely broken or just mostly broken? The Motorola recovery will let you try repeatedly to get in. You can keep trying until you need to recharge. You just have to get in once... So if your volume up works 1/100 tries you can easily try 100 times very quickly in Motorola recovery... Just to be clear: to get past the triangle screen you need to hold down gallery and volume up and while holding them down you have to tap the camera shutter. So hold down the gallery and try holding the volume up different ways while repeatedly tapping the shutter until you get in. Once you're in do a factory reset (Motorola recovery uses gallery key instead of camera to select).
If that doesn't work... regarding RSD: there are two flavors of sbf. A "service" sbf doesn't leaves the /data partition untouched. So, depending on which flavor of sbf you've been using, your data partition may not be being erased when you flash SBF. /data is CG37. /cache is CG40. See if your sbf includes those. Actually according to http://and-developers.com/partitions:cdt there's a good chance that CG37 and CG40 aren't signed. So, you may be able to create a "factory reset" SBF that only contains CG37 and CG40 from a nandroid backup if you have one. I don't know how to do that though. Just and idea.

Here are CG37 and CG40 from the Cincinnati Bell 2.1 sbf--it should work with the 2.1's. I don't know how to convert them to smg. Which sbf are you flashing? SKT 2.1? SKT 2.2?

My copies of both STSKT_N_79.11.39R and STSKT_N_79.33.50R don't have CG37 (/cache), but they do have CG40 (/data). But STR_U2_01.1E.0 (UK) and STR_U2_04.1E.1 (US/CBW) do have CG37. I'm not sure if Milestone XT720 ROMs are expected to work on Motoroi, though. I've always had to factory reset when flashing Motoroi ROMs on my Milestone XT720, but maybe that's because of the missing /cache partition...
What you may want to do is use RSD Lite to compare the partition structures of STR_U2_01.1E.0 (UK) and STSKT_N_79.11.39R. If they are identical (except for the missing CG37) I think you can create a new sbf that has it. I can't remember the program's name off the top of my head, but I think I can find it. brb
Edit: I think this is the program: http://modmymobile.com/forums/402-general-motorola-android/530781-sbf-depacker-1-3-03-22-2011-a.html You can expand the sbfs into a directory and then copy parts and use the program to rebuild a new sbf.

and some info about using it fine:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1576255
You could use a LiveCd disk and load a linux version like Ubuntu, and try to use from it putting the SBF flash file on another memory card on oanother usb port of Your pc.
For use this I use the keys: POWER+VolumeDOWN+CameraSHUTTERButton (no media button), also a way could be remove the battery and then grab the phone in a way that You could maintain this 3 buttons pressed and while are pressed insert the battery in the proper position, in my case, it will put the phone in bootloader mode and after following the instructions for SBF_FLASH, I connect first the usb cable to the cell phone AND THEN to the usb port of the pc (This because after plug attach the cable to the cell phone, I put it resting on table or desk, so the microusb connector is so small and tiny that a little movement may produce a fault contact between cable and connector and produce a bad flashing, but by putting on table and safe is MORE manageable connect at last the USB plug on the PC side since is bigger and with more surface contacts so less chance of a fault contact by a bad movement.
The beauty of sbf_flash is that after make the command run and be in the state "waiting for phone", you only need to plug the usb cable to the pc and the flash starts automatically and ends so with feedback on screen along the process is made and checked.
Hope that may helps, I use linux for my stuff , but also, for this specially since the abd install make so many troubles for me and sbf_flash simply works nice and clean everytime that I need it.
best regards!

Bricked/Stuck at boot animation after attempting to make status bar black...

Last night I tried skinning my status bar to black using this method. It was late, I was tired, and did not see that you need to be de-odexed to apply this theme. Needless to say, I'm now screwed. It won't boot past the DROID screen. So... what do I do? I tried booting without the SD card but haven't tried anything else. Do/could I just do the power+home key and clear the cache? Is there any easy fix to this where I can salvage anything from the phone? I'm guessing I need to use the SBF, but I've never done that before so I'm looking for that guide. I'm running the official 2.2 OTA and I had rooted it. Could anybody please point me in the right direction?
I did the same thing the other day. Here is how I fixed it.
-Download RSD Lite (credit to MyDroidWorld)
-Install the RSDLite 4.8 program by double clicking on the program.
-Download SBF into a folder.
-Open RSD Lite and find the UNZIPPED SBF
-Put your Motorola Droid X into bootloader. (turn phone off and hold volume down
and the camera button while pressing the power button)
-Click start and sit back.
PS. You need to run RSDLITE as Administrator.
Note: after the flash will need to boot into recovery (hold volume down and the home button) and wipe data and cache.
Link for SBF http://www.multiupload.com/NCBVTV0AU5
I ran into an issues after I did this, it would try to activate though US Cellular. That isnt uncommon. just be sure to restore to thought the phone after you SBF and the go to your keyboard and hit *22807 then ## that should force it verzion. If you have any questions let me know
Thanks for your help. Yeah you probably would've had to update the PRL file as that's just a generic 2.2 OS install. Quick question - would it be a problem if I already wiped the cache and data/factory reset it? I just tried that and it didn't help any. Mostly just a black screen now with the occasional flash to the DROID logo. Am I still good to use the SBF?
Also... did you ever get this resolved? I Googled *22807 because I'd never heard of it before and this is what came up. Does flashing to this SBF always mess up your MEID?
I would assume that you would be ok SBFing it. My friend works for Verizion and that is what she gave me to do.

[HowTo]THE guide to restoring your Milestone 2

This is my tutorial on restoring the Milestone 2. It is more advanced than the other ones out there so I thought hey, let's tell the community. If you don't understand something please reply in this thread and don't PM me.
1. Install RSD Lite 4.9
2. Download and extract The right SBF restore file
3. Plug in your phone. Power it off and hold CAMERA + VOL DOWN
4. On the PC launch RSD Lite, Click on the [...] to the right of filename, browse for the .sbf file you have just extracted.
5. Click on Start
6. In normal cases the phone should boot up now. If you are SURE it doesn't, which is when it tells you to boot up the phone manually follow the next steps.
7. Unplug the phone and pull out the battery.
8. Slide out your keyboard and hold the X button, insert your battery and power it up while still holding the X button.
9. A screen with an exclamation mark pops up, press the @ button on the keyboard to open the recovery menu.
10. Use either the arrows on the keyboard or the VOL UP / VOL DOWN buttons to navigate up and down. Go down to wipe data/factory reset.
11. It will hang at some times but in the end it will say it's done. Hop over to reboot system now and reboot.
Congrats, if the problem was software-based, your phone will boot now!
What if the process doesn't even start? I put my phone in the bootloader mode, plug it in, start up RSD Lite, searh for the sbf on the disk, hit start and then the image starts to unpack from the sbf. So far so good, but when it comes to flashing that image to phone I get an error saying flash failed (in fact it didn' do literally anything to the phone) and displaying info that the phone got a reboot command but didn't respond to it. I tried doing this from booted up android but no luck whatsoever. When I get back home I'll update the post with an error code, maybe you can tell me how the hell I can get my phone to flash sbf seamlessly.

I know it's a bit extreme to do, but it might help for you. Try installing ubuntu or wubi, then use sbf_flash on ubuntu. It takes some time, but if you REALLY need to SBF you should give it a try. Usage is:
chmod 777 sbf_flash
./sbf_flash /path/to/sbf/file
I have no knowledge of ubuntu, but I stomped on the same advice as you have mentioned, before. But I didn't quite understand it clearly. I happened to have a ubuntu live 'cd' on my usb flash drive, I have the needed sbf from the links found in the topic of this forum, but is it all that I need, or am I missing something? Is that command you mentioned is everything I need to run?

You first need to download sbf_flash and extract it to your user directory (the one with downloads, desktop folders). Then open up terminal and execute those commands
What firmware is that file?
I have a copy of MILS2_U6_2.2.19_SIGNED_USAMILESTONE2B1B80VF00B.0R_USXMILE20VFAU_P032_A012_M005_HWp2a_Service1FF.sbf.gz , but don't know if it would be good to flash.
Your firmware is for the Vodafone Australia Milestone 2.
The one in Mikevhl's post is the UK Firmware.

Is there a way to restore to the factory default ROM, but still keep my SMS'es/Text messages?
I'm not sure if an MMS issue I'm having is related to the ROM I'm using (Argen2Stone) so want to put the official one back on, but keep all my recent SMS'es...(and preferably all installed apps, etc etc., but SMS'es most important).

you can back up your text messages using SMS Backup & Restore (available for free from the market place). save the backup file to your SD card, and once your ROM is restored, you can restore your messages using the restore button on that same program. (of course you need to reinstall SMS Backup & Restore in order to be able to restore the previously backed up file)

Sbf flashes do not wipe /data. Therefore you could just sbf restore and all apps and text messages will be kept.

I ended up trying a restore from CWM (backed-up first!) of my very first backup prior to any ROMs etc and just restoring the system only.
This seems to have worked a treat! As I now have the stock ROM and all my apps/sms'es/phone logs etc still in place before I did the system-only restore!
Exactly what I wanted and so easy!
Many thanks guys and huge thanks to the CWM peoples as that thing is amazing.

Hi Xda, i have upgraded my xt720 to cyanogenmod 7.1.0-RC14 jydaddy version. There is alot of bug occurring from this mod due to incompatibility because my xt720 is not korea version. But the problem happen when i try to flash it to singapore sbf. When i plug in my xt720, my computer can still detect my phone. But after i open up my rsd lite, my computer cant detect my phone. It always automatically closes memory card access. So now i am stuck with cm 7 rc 14 with korean flash.
What i did earlier... I flash my motorola xt720 to korean sbf then upgrade to cm7 rc14 jydaddy. Does any1 faced this issue? Pls help me!

Yes. You cannot access your phone as removable media while you run RSD Lite. Also RSD cannot read the turned on phone. So, you have to turn off the phone then go into bootloader mode then flash the other SBF.
You should have no problem as you could flash a korean sbf.

Can you get into recovery by holding Volume up when powering up? If so you should be able to restor a back up.
Couple of things going threw my mind right now.
Been a long time since I flashed an SBF but IIRC if it is in bootloader mode, I am not sure it can be in mass storage mode at the same time. So it is a one or the other type thing.
When you say that you cannot browse your SD card, is that while you are in RSD or can't browse at all (i.e if you put card in a reader does it show up as removeable storage)? If this is the case, let me know and I can give you a fix for it depending on your computer's os.
Are you motorola drivers up to date? If you haven't mess with them, then you should be able to plug your phone into your computer, pull down your notification and select Phones and Portals and it should upload them directly (or at least start the process and direct you to updated them).

Don't worry you didn't brick your phone. Unless you load another kernal in your phone and trip the eFuse chip, it is almost impossible to brick our phones.
Bootloop you say. Hmm, did you wipe Dalvik-cache, wipe cache and factory reset?
Hi woodrube and luks_p,
My rsd lite still cant detect my xt720 in bootload screen. I already reinstalled the drivers and rsd lite but still to no avail. Is it because i flash my motorola xt720 to korean version? I don't even know if i have some how modified the kernel by chance.... Because from cm7 jydaddy i tried to go recovery and pressed stock221v13
. After reboot, it hangs in M screen. I already wipe data/factory and wiped cache.
@Woodrube Whenever i open up rsd lite, the removable storage disappear. The rsd lite cant detect my phone. Before the the flash to korean version, everything is fine because back then my rsd still can detect. I am really worried...

Ok you didn't modify the kernal so don't worry about that. Just seems that you can get your /system to "stick". Lets work on this problem first. Do you have a working nandroid back up (did you back up before you tried the CM7 or are you using Dexter's original?) If so let's work on getting that back on line before the RSD lite issue.
Open recovery and wipe/reset first then restore backup and wipe again just to be sure. Remember that the first boot always takes longer b/c it has to rebuild the Dalvik from scratch. I flashed the Hellmonger ROM this morning on my way to work and from it took about 3-5mins to full boot up the first time. **If your phone gets to the point of M and even powering on, it isn't bricked and can be fixed just need to work through it.
What recovery are you using (where did you get it? Dexter or Androidiani or Mioze's)?

Erm, how to restore backup? There is no restore backup function in recovery mode. It jus says reboot system, apply sdcard:update.zip, wipe date/factory reset, wipe cache partition. Initially i successfully upgrade my stock xt720 motorola to dexter froyo. I left all the files in my sd card. After which i flash korean sbf and upgrade to cm 7 rc 14 jy daddy. At this point, i tried used the open recovery app from previous froyo files and recover the stock221v13. After clearing and wiping to factory, my phone is stuck in m logo.
Ps: I don't think i have a backup, i just have files from previous froyo upgrades... The recovery is from dexter. I still have nandroid files in my sd card tho ... How do i back up?
It sounds like the Open Recovery files on your sdcard might be corrupted. I suggest trying to setup Mioze7Ae's Androidiani OpenRecovery mod.
Also I think you will have to flash back to a Milestone XT720 SBF before you could restore Dexter's ROM.

Perfect. Now we know. You don't have a custom recovery but rather the stock one that came with the phone. Make sure you have these 3 things on your SD card. Openrecovery.zip (size will be 1701mb), and openrecovery folder and another folder labeled nandroid with another folder labeled openrecovery. So it will look like this
Sdcard/openrecovery.zip
sdcard/openrocovery
sdcard/nandroid/openrecovery
**No spaces between**
Go to this thread and download and unzip this recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242259) This is what we are all using now b/c of the customization that MZ put into it. Follow the directions. If and when you replace your files in the sdcard/openrocovery/updates make sure that if you have anything in there that you want, don't oeverwrite them.
Open/ unzip Dexters and make a folder called Dexter and in it put the system.img and system.md5 that you just unzipped. Put that folder in sdcard/nandroid/openrecovery so it looks like this sdcard/nandroid/openrecovery/dexter/ with .img and md5 in here.
Put your card back in your phone and either push power and hold the volume or you might have to do power, media and volume up at the same time up until you see a yellow arrow arc up and then down to a phone. It will take a second to load and then you can scroll down to nandroid (open it) restore (open it) find your folder marked Dexter and restore only system. Once that is done, wipe and factory reset again and then it should boot up.

OMG! Thank you Woodrube, 3rdstring,luks_p. Without your help i would have wasted money on servicing. Omg... Thanks alot, especially Woodrube. You have been of great help man!! So happy right now haha....
No problem. Don't forget to hit that thanks button. Freaked you out a bit huh?
Btw there has been a ton of improvements in ROM development for this phone. Dexter's is somewhat outdated however but still have to pay respects to our roots. IMHO you should flash this ROM (Kahlpower's V4 epicbluesteel) from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002993
Once you get your feet more wet, then I would say to move on to some of the more experimental ROMs liek CM6/7 or XDA special...
Kahl's is stable and fast enough to learn on. You flash it the same way as you did with Dexters. Just unzip and put copy in Nandroid/openrecovery.
And I can't stress this enough, always make a back up of at the very least system and data (and sdext if you have one). It is easy, just go into OR and go to Nandroid and backup, tick system, data,.. and OK. Then when something happens, it is as if you took a still shot of your ROM at that moment and can go back to it at will.

Omg thanks for the info. Forgot about the thanks button :X I thought i was really down on luck this days.. My ipod just died like 2 days ago (Drown and electrified to death) and i was like wtf now my phone!!? Haha, thanks to you i revived it. I am trying cm 6 on my phone now The cm7 is definitely not worth trying now, alot of bug issues and sensor problem. My battery died in less than a day and im not even using it lol.
Btw, sorry for asking.. What is OR?
OK then good luck, CM6 has its quirks too. Just read the thread and go from there. If you run into something you don't know, ask (but search first). OR is short for Open Recovery. AOR is Androidiani Open Recovery.
If you are still having problems with your computer not being able to see your SD card as mass storage (not the RSDlite issue) try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844
Hi
Oka uninstalll rsd lite restall and sure moto usb drivers are working.

Yea I thought it was you that had that problem awhile ago. He fixed it. Was a bad Openrecovery he had.
Easy fix for annoying recovery pix in media hallery is to put a .nomedia file in your Openrecovery folder. I've been doing this along time now b/c I found that if you just delete these pix from the gallery, it somehow "breaks" the recovery and you essentially have to reinstall it again. Was pissing me off for so long that I figured out the problem. MZ put one in there on his OR, so if you are using his then no worries.
Wait wait wait I think we got confused with the terms bootloader and recovery before he fixed it. and i think the problem when restoring Dexter's nandroid was that he had not yet flashed a milestone xt720 sbf.
You boot into bootloader mode when you want to flash an sbf, and boot onto stock recovery/OR/AOR/MZor to flash wipe or restore.
Sent from my MilestoneXT720 using XDA App
Ya but at that point he had nothing. Wanted to get him with something bootable first, then work on his Rsd issue and the sbf. He got his phone to boot up and run Dexter's but I think he must have forgot about his original issue bc he hasn't been back.
Just trying to solve one little problem first before taking on the whole thing at once. Easier to save the dingy, than the Titanic. Know what I mean. He'll be back when he tries to get in bootloader and flash sbf.
I can't boot into open recovery. It's always show an open box to a phone. Anyone help me???

[Q] My USB port isn't working; how to get rid of CM7 and restore Froyo?

My phone is dying prematurely, with my camera crapped out and my usb port not fully functional. My phone can charge but it can't be recognized by a computer anymore.
I'm sending it in for a replacement, but I realized now that I can't flash back to Froyo easily. I'm stuck in CM7, and factory reset brings me back to a fresh CM7. I don't want Motorola to use the fact that I used CM7 as an excuse to charge me $300.
Can someone help me please?
you can try restore froyo nandroid backup via custom recovery...
I'll have to remenber tha latest SBF that you flashed on your devide, have a friend with a Defy, flash it on that Defy, give him your SD card to put a full nandroid backup on it ...
basically you need to restore a nandroid backup of froyo of your region since you cannot flash the full sbf. There are already nandroid backups available in xda.
If you have wifi use a simple app called Ftpdroid to copy it to your memory card and restore.
If you do not have wifi then try coping the file using a card reader and restore.

My computer does not recognize my phone when it's in Bootloader mode.
I installed the Nordic Rom to use CM7. So I need a nandroid backup. Does anyone know where I can get one?
Whenever I try to connect my phone to USB...
It says there's an error with the device. Windows 7 reports an unknown device, and error 47. That's why I believe there is something wrong with my usb port.
Progress:
I can't load into CM7 anymore, nor the stock rom. I can access the CM7 boot menu however, and go into Clockwork.
I tried a Motorola factory reset, and I tried changing the boot sequence (stock, 2nd-init, 2nd-boot) but no luck.
I'm a little stuck here guys
Have you installed USB drivers? Check all in beginners guide.

You talk about your Defy not being recognized as USB disk?
Did you disable USB Debugging? So the USB Mass Storage option can be enabled after.
The data function in my usb port isn't working, my phone cannot be recognized at all. Even with three different cables and drivers installed.
Any ideas?
Is there a way to repair the port?
Could it have water damage? If it could, let the cap open and let it rest for a couple if days. Open it up and check for visible signs of damage/corrosion. Would not do this if you are trying to claim warranty.
To restore, go to the sbf threat, there are links to the individual threats of each. Normally, you can find there the nand. Place it in the right folder and restore it with cwm. Remove the battery and go to stock recovery. Wipe cache and data. Try to remember what sbf you were on, but don't think it matters much... Don't guaranty it will work. You could try to find someone who wants to try it as they can always flash a sbf if it doesn't work.
Sent from my MB525
i can help u with a nand of any sbf u want...just send me a pm or post here and in 1 hour i will upload it
just be sure u say the correct one, coz any boot cm7 version changes ur kernel, and the nand wont work
LE: after u restore the nand, just use the moto recovery, wipe data/cache so ur phone is back to stock, no root no custom recovery and u can take it to warranty
LLE: i guess i need to make a nand of the tmobile us version also so u can return it to the shop
Hmmm
Hmm but I flashed a nordic sbf. :/
I don't mind restoring nordic though, as long as there's no sign of cyanogen mod. I can replace the bootlogo and animation there.
I have used Cyan 7 for months with none of the problems you are describing. I also dont use any base and wonder why people are so pushy on using a base.
I go into recovery, Wipe all, Then install cyan then gapps.
It sounds to me you did or didnt do something during install.
Download the newest cyan 7 rom
Get into the stable recovery and wipe everything, even dalvik under advanced
Flash cyan
Flash gapps
reboot.
I promise it will work
Base doesn't matter, it gets replaced by stable releases. I think he tries to restore it to claim warrant.

I think you may have overreacted and made things worse. Sometimes my data function stops working in CM7 - it fixes itself after a warm reboot or two.

D2G Cant do nothing, Help Plz!

Hi guys, i need help with a D2G, the phone is not mine i am trying to fix it, the problem is, that i cant flash any custom rom or stock SBF on it since the owner formating the SD card, i cant do factory reset or save current settings, always appear the same setting when i reboot, if i uninstall apps or install new apps, when reboot, the apps installed gone or the deleted apps are there again so weird.. i intall CWM but when reboot nothing happens even pressing Power + X, it just enter to stock recovery but nothing works..
Other thing is in the "System folder of the phone the Recovery folder is not there" i do not know if can be deleted, and if yes.. can it damage the phone?
I already Flash stock SBFs (VRZ_A956_2.4.33_1FF_01.sbf) and now i have
Bootloader
D0.11
Code Corrupt
I have attached a screen capture with the FAIL in RSD when flashing.. the FAIL message appear when is rebooting in the final process.
PS: the phone comes with this procedure & rom >>> http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_Droid_2_Global:_Full_Update_Guide
Thx in advance !!
There are two possible answers:
1. The SBF file is corrupt.
2. The phone's flash memory is corrupt (aka dead, not usable any more).

If someone have a solution plz post it..

Well, your phone's internal flash memory is probably fried.
The solution would be to file a warranty claim with Verizon or Motorola Mobility.
