Last night I tried skinning my status bar to black using this method. It was late, I was tired, and did not see that you need to be de-odexed to apply this theme. Needless to say, I'm now screwed. It won't boot past the DROID screen. So... what do I do? I tried booting without the SD card but haven't tried anything else. Do/could I just do the power+home key and clear the cache? Is there any easy fix to this where I can salvage anything from the phone? I'm guessing I need to use the SBF, but I've never done that before so I'm looking for that guide. I'm running the official 2.2 OTA and I had rooted it. Could anybody please point me in the right direction?
I did the same thing the other day. Here is how I fixed it.
-Download RSD Lite (credit to MyDroidWorld)
-Install the RSDLite 4.8 program by double clicking on the program.
-Download SBF into a folder.
-Open RSD Lite and find the UNZIPPED SBF
-Put your Motorola Droid X into bootloader. (turn phone off and hold volume down
and the camera button while pressing the power button)
-Click start and sit back.
PS. You need to run RSDLITE as Administrator.
Note: after the flash will need to boot into recovery (hold volume down and the home button) and wipe data and cache.

I ran into an issues after I did this, it would try to activate though US Cellular. That isnt uncommon. just be sure to restore to thought the phone after you SBF and the go to your keyboard and hit *22807 then ## that should force it verzion. If you have any questions let me know
Thanks for your help. Yeah you probably would've had to update the PRL file as that's just a generic 2.2 OS install. Quick question - would it be a problem if I already wiped the cache and data/factory reset it? I just tried that and it didn't help any. Mostly just a black screen now with the occasional flash to the DROID logo. Am I still good to use the SBF?
Also... did you ever get this resolved? I Googled *22807 because I'd never heard of it before and this is what came up. Does flashing to this SBF always mess up your MEID?
I would assume that you would be ok SBFing it. My friend works for Verizion and that is what she gave me to do.

Ok so here is the deal. I have had my Droid X rooting and I was running Liberty 1.5 for about a month or two now. I decided i wanted to try out fission. so i backed up the phone using clockwork, and proceeded the install process in clockwork, i wanted to reset the fone prior to doing so as well so i wiped data/restore to factory. that completed. i installed fission. that complete. i tried to boot the fone and i still had the liberty boot screen that replaced the motorola boot screen. then the words android came up on the screen and flashed for about an hour. i figured the install didnt work and i didnt feel like figuring out why exactly at that time. i pulled the battery rebooted into clockwork and restored the back up i had made prior to trying to install fission. now i get the Liberty boot screen that replaced the motorola boot logo and nothing else. I can no longer get into clockwork. I can enter the screen like clockwork by holding the power and home button, home button then hitting the search button. in there i have 4 options. i have tried to install update zip from sd and i had the liberty 1.5 rom zip file on the sd card but it fail. i assume i am doing something wrong there. If i could just get into clockwork i know i could fix it. I just dont know how to. so as a last resort before i order a new fone i am asking on here if anyone could help me i would GREATLY appreciated it. Im sorry for this message being so ling
never mind. I finally let the fone sit with the battery out long enough and when i put the battery in i managed to get the fone to bootloader and i sbf it. incase anyone else has this problem here are the files i used. thank you so much for reading this forum.

its a shame that companies like motorola go so far to prevent damage from happening to their phone via security hacking... and it only leads to destruction :/

Hi opiswahn, you can try to flash rsd lite to reformat your back to stock. First download rsd lite and sbf files of your preference (I am using singapore sbf). Then open your phone while holding power button, sound up, media together. You will go into bootloader mode (black screen). Now flash rsd lite from your cpu and your phone should be alright. Hope it helps you.
thx for the reply, but RSDFlash won't let me flash... see picture
Maybe another version of RSD lite and/or try to run it in XP compatibilty mode.
I had the same situation like you in the screenshot when I installed an sbf using Windows 7 on the neighbour's PC.
But I can't remember clearly what was the key to get it working as it was in february.
Since then no more sbf ...

Aw, damnit, every time rsd tries to write to the phone the VM crashes...

Try this
Go on control panel , click on system , click on andvanced system settings then on advanced tab click settings under performance then the advanced tab and click change under virtual memory, then custom size and choose it the size u want it to be ,but bare in mind not to low and not to high , keep it under 3000MB
Also I found that OR sometimes gets corrupt. Most of the time if you just re-unzip the recovery and replace all the items in the Openrecovery folder (except the Updates b/c you'll lose whatever is in there when you overwrite it) on your PC and then xfr over to SD cardyou then you can enter recovery like normal. That usually does the trick. In fact that happened to my wife's phone last night and I fixed it up just like that.
I always hate flashing sbf when I can just restore a nandroid. Not sure if it will work since you started the sbf already.
I had the same issue with RSD Lite 4.6. I found a 5.0 with no problem. But now I saw yours! How ironic.
enter moto's recovery, do "factory reset"
You need to enter bootloader mode, not the fastboot bootloader.

Stuck in boot loop after upgrading to Bravo 2.2 v1.6 by brianlee+updates0926_bravo1.6
Help! My phone is experiencing the same thing... stuck in boot loop. The operator's logo (Singapore Starhub) keep appearing again... again... and again.
I upgraded it the from dexter's rom to Bravo 2.2 v1.6 by brianlee. I've followed all instructions below but after I install the update, my phone stuck in boot loop.
Instructions
Download 1.6 from one of the links above.
Download the Update from above.
Extract the contents of the 1.6 download.
Copy the contents of the sdcard folder to the root of your sd card. (You can skip the OpenRecovery files and just copy the nandroid folder if you already have OR).
Copy the update ZIP file into /sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates
Reboot into OpenRecovery
Nandroid > Restore > bravo2.2-brian
Apply Update > update-bravo1.6Mz-20110926-1328.zip
Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik, Factory Reset
My phone run perfectly well and after I apply this update (updates0926_bravo1.6.zip), I'm stuck in boot loop.
I've tried many ways to recover my phone, but none is successfull, including this thread. I've tried the camera button+power button and then volume up button. And this message appears on the screen: "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command" with phone picture and exclamation mark on the background.
RSDlite 4.9 + sbf file can't detect my phone.
Can someone help me? Can I restore my phone?
---------- Post added at 02:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:00 PM ----------
Sorry, I can recover my phone. I tried to press power button+volume up button+media button all at once and the recovery mode appeared. I applied the proper update and voila... My phone is working again.
I'm a little stuck as to what to do now. Flashed clear droid 1.2.3 (gb) over clear droid 1.1.51 (froyo) after doing a factory reset and clearing the dalvik cache from clockwork recovery and flashing the recommended radio for gb. The stock mms app was force closing, for which ClearD recommended flashing the radio again... but the phone refuses to go into HBOOT when I hold the power button + the volume down button on startup. It just buzzes a few times and the screen stays black until I release the buttons and then it just boots normally except it gets stuck in airplane mode or refuses to recognize the SIM card until it's rebooted without holding down the volume button.
I did a backup with clockwork and a nandroid I think? If those are the same thing then I did two nandroids I'm thinking I should do another factory + dalvik wipe and flash the backup, but I'd like to get this thing on gingerbread. Any advice as to what I did wrong the first time would be greatly appreciated before I start over.

The good thing about Android (And ClearDroid) is that there are several ways to go about doing things.
Instead of trying the volume down + power trick, try installing the modpack (can be done by installing the zip through Rom Manager like it is a ROM) and then after install, just hold the power button, press "Reboot", then "Reboot into Bootloader" I believe.
If you still wish to try the power down option, make sure that USB Debugging is turned on and that fastboot is turned off in your settings. If still no success, post here and we will keep on troubleshooting. It might be good for others to see the steps we take to get this figured out.
:O thank you for trying to help me, master ClearD! I flashed the modpack like you said, and the sms errors went away However, I still can't get into HBOOT, and there isn't an option to do so in the modded shutdown menu Also, I don't have the option to turn off quick boot?? It's supposed to be in settings>applications>developement, right? And the phone lost the new radio! It went back to 12.56... instead of 12.62... and you said to flash that in HBOOT, so I didn't try doing it from recovery (which I can get into). I tried holding the volume button while the phone rebooted (instead of shutting it down then turning it back on) but that trick didn't work either.
It's a really sweet ROM, just so nobody gets the wrong impression from all my whining thank you for it, ClearD!
To get to the bootloader from the shutdown menu, hit "Restart" then select "Bootloader" from the next menu lol.
Try the latest release, 1.3.0, which has the advanced shutdown menu cooked back in, and the radio is not included in the Rom, it must be flashed separately or else it will stay as it was. Try that and let me know what happens.

Lol I'm such a tard... found bootloader... can I just put in the disclaimer that this isn't my phone? I'm trying to help a friend, I swear...
I redownloaded the radio and the checksum is 9ad454c7ac2a9bd69d9f0a5200f089b6, which is the checksum for 26.10.04.03_M (froyo radio). I'm confused, I totally downloaded 12.62.60.27P... do u um... have the right file hosted on techsupporteverything.com... when I went into HBOOT it got mad and said I needed an update so I guess that's why I got the OTA radio. Which is fine, really the sms thing was what I wanted to fix and that's all good now but I think you may have the wrong file up.

Lol flash it and see, it should be correct though, I think...
The way the radio flashes is through hboot update, it will always ask you to update if there is any file on your microsd card named PD98IMG.zip that is valid to flash lol. I will double check though.

Been trying to Root this phone for a couple of days. Finally manged to do it!
Its the Rogers Samsung Galaxy Rugby. The (GT-S5690R) model.
I had to add the (R) in the updater script. Thats how I got it too root.
1. Put the file on your sd-card Universal_GB_ROOT_v5_patched_for_S5690.zip
2. Turn phone off
3. Boot in to Recovery ( press Power, Vol-up, and center button on bottom of phone all at same time. The samsung logo will appear, keep holding all buttons, then the logo will dissapear then re-appear, when it comes back let go of the power button only. The phone should boot into the 3e recovery)
4. use vol keys to navigate through menu, and use center button on the bottom of the phone to select.
5. Select install update from sd card.
6. press on the Universal_GB_ROOT_v5_patched_for_S5690.zip
7. phone should install root, wait till the 'Success' appears, then reboot.
You should find Superuser app when your phone reboots. You are Rooted!!
Now im just trying to figure out how to get a custom recovery!!
Perfect!
This zip file worked perfectly on my Rogers Galaxy Rugby. Many thanks!
Happy to hear

Big problem now though....
So the root went swimmingly, but I got a little too excited removing pre-installed apps. I backed up and removed Samsung Home, and removed and NOT backed up SNS 1.0. The phone will now refuse to boot unless I wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode, but after that it just ends up crashing during the Android wizard start up....
This is a brand new phone, what can I do to restore those apps, and get it back to the way I received it earlier today?!
There is a way to boot into safe mode, head Google mod2extreme and I find the forum for our phones (currently the only one) find advise there

Thanks for the name of that forum! I've found the guide someone posted here: http://www.mod2xtreme.com/showthread.php?t=12386 and I've decided to try it.
I'm using the first firmware listed in this thread: http://www.mod2xtreme.com/showthread.php?t=11744 (S5690XXKL1 2.3.6 2011 December S5690OXFKL1) mostly because under Country/Carrier it has nothing, so I'm assuming it's more generic than the others. I'm also keeping in mind this is for the 5690, not the 5690R, so it may not work at all. But, worth a shot since my only other recourse is to break down and cry in front of a Rogers attendant to see if he can give me a new one. "Root? What's root? Like ginger?"
I'm using v.1.83 of Odin3, which is listed as supported the 5690.
Downloaded KIES 2.0 from http://www.samsung.com/my/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP - It gave me two DLL registration (COM) errors during installation on Windows. Uncertain if this will end up screwing me over or not.
Be right back, rebooting now that KIES is installed... will edit this post when there's more to report.
EDIT: Yeah, so I ended up trying both Odin version 1.83 and 1.85, with the Marvell .pit file, and the firmware from that thread. I learned that I had to put the phone into Download Mode, NOT Recovery Mode while trying Odin. Even still, nothing worked. I've given the phone up to Rogers and they will try to replace the original ROM, hopefully they won't notice that I've rooted it and really mucked everything up. They said if it doesn't work they'll send it off to Samsung to get it repaired. Anyone know if they find out I rooted it, I'd have to pay for voiding a warranty or anything?
i have the same device hae you manage to get clockworkmod recovery on it?
Does this method erase all personal data/downloaded apps from phone?
Great it worked perfectly...
did you success in installing different firmware?
Thanks again
Thanks a lot, worked like a charm.
Is there a way I can install Clockwork Mod? Rom manager doesn't recognise the s5690r. It gives me the option of selecting the Epic4G or the GalaxyS i9000. will either of these work?
Also, once I get that figured out, is there any roms compatible with the s5690r? I've scoured the webs with no luck. Not a very popular phone, eh?
Thanks again.

Good Day, I am also working on the Bell Canada Version of the Rugby. It is the GT-s5690m model. I am now stuck in a bootloop and don't know how to fix it. I have played around with the root and unroot zip files that have been floating around but I am certain that the bootloop is due to not being able to clear the Delvik Cache. As you are aware Clockworkmod recovery is not supported on our devices. I am unsure how to get it to work. Until then I just keep trying different things to hopefully get this phone up and working. It is quite a rugged device and would be great with a custom rom and recovery. Could you explain to me in layman's terms how I might create a flashable clockwork image to flash via Odin or even through stock recovery. I would love to get this phone up and working. Thanks in advance
Sasktel Rugby
Hi there. I am working on the Sasktel version of this phone as well. I tried to change the model from R to M because this phone is the same as the bell model version but it would not install it. I found it on the external SD card but it will not run the zip file from the 3e recovery. Any ideas why this might be happening?
Thanks,
Kit Kat 4.4.2
Would provide add'l info but can't even boot it up right now.........
Long and short....... phone was not rooted or modified on any way (for once). Only issue I noticed before it died was that the display would "freak out" with some colored lines once in a while....only for a few seconds. Last night, when I went to go into an email app....... everything crashed. All apps put up not responding messages, the UI crashed and the phone shut off before I had a chance to shut down correctly.
Now all I get is the red Motorola logo. I can get to the diagnostic menu (vol down, power, then vol up when the logo disappears). Recovery results in the dead android icon. All other options EXCEPT AP Fastboot Flash result in going back to the red Motorola logo. The phone is recognized in device manager when I plug into laptop, and the phone says connected to USB, and "device is locked". It does not show up as a drive, however (I did not have USB debug set to on if that's the reason).
I'd obviously like to save the phone, but more important are the pictures, which like an idiot I didn't back up. So, what I've tried:
1. Downloaded Moto drivers and made sure phone shows up as Mot Single ADB Interface (Fastboot Vanquish S driver)
2. Downloaded RSD Lite 6.1.6 and installed. Seems to recognize phone, as it lists USB port. Phone info, however, all says N/A
3. Downloaded KitKat stock ROM, which included the XML file, the recovery image and one or two more images. forgive me, but i left the file at work so i can't be specific.
4. When trying to flash that file with RSD, I get a "getvar" error and the flash fails.
Any ideas? Please keep it as simple as possible...... I'm no pro at this. I'll get the exact ROM filename tomorrow, since that might be the issue................
Question...... my pics are obviously on the internal storage, not the external SD card (dumb again)....... is there a chance that this process will not delete those files? I think the internal is considered SD0 on this phone (and maybe on all android platforms), and I read that the internal SD might not be overwritten.
UPDATE: I just read a post that said to delete all the lines with "getvar" from the XML file. I will try that, but in the meantime, if I'm doing anything completely idiotic, I'd like to know.
SECOND UPDATE: Found another site to download the ROM from.......... this time is gets by the "getvar" but fails at the first "flash" command....... see attachment
Thanks
Were you on the .15 update? It looks you're getting that fail because you're trying to downgrade to .10. .15 is linked in the general section.

I'm not sure if I was on .15.............. but the file i was trying to flash is 10.1.........so i'll try to find the file you suggest. thanks.
The "dead android" logo is normal, you have to press a combination of keys to "unlock" recovery:
When you see it, hold both volume keys, then quickly press power button, and you should have options.
From stock recovery you can try either clearing cache, or clearing cache and data (if you dont mind losing your files) to try and see if it comes back.
Seen a similar issue (stuck on boot logo) on a xt925 and a moto G before, and simply clearing cache solved it.
Hope you can recover your beloved device, and make sure to report your results here
EDIT: So, I reread your post and seems like you cant go into recovery anymore, so reflashing seems to be the best option. Usually seeing the red logo is a good sign. Dunno about the specifics on flashing a xt926, but yeah, you have to edit the xml file.
Re: almost dead
Thanks........yes i think the recovery option is shot. And for the life of me I can't find version .15 as suggested in another post above. I just searched the general forum for over an hour and only see .10
UPDATE: Damn.......... that sequence worked. saw the dead android and hit your key combo. now have options to:
reboot system
apply update from SD
apply update from ADB
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
remember, i'd really like to save my media. any idea what the best selection would be?
UPDATE 2
Tried "Wipe Cache Partition". Seemed to complete the function (android icon came alive with electric).........but did not help phone to reboot
thanks so much, even if it doesn't save my data. Progress at least.
