Just upgraded from a desire, and after being on a call for a few mins, I get a headache!
I feel it on both temples, and am wondering if its because of the new antenna/case etc...
Anyone else experience this?

Nope if anything it should be the opposite, as the phone itself shields your head from radiation
Edit: the Desire actually has twice the radiation as the sensation.
As stated, the SAR level of the sensation is 0.776 (@1.6W/kg) whereas the desire is 1.48 (@1.6W/kg) - so the sensation should be cooking you less.
I'd say your headache was more likely caused by the person on the other end of the line
My call time is currently at just over 21 hours... no side effects.

SAR level is not very informative. If corresponds to the PEAK value measured, not the average. If a phone transmits at 0.1W/kg for an hour and for 1 second, for whatever reason, jumps to 10W/kg, then the SAR will be 10. Not really appropriate, is it?

I suppose im sensitive more to this phone than others, cuz i can really feel something!
No headache here but sometimes I have to make a bowel movement when I use my phone......anyone else?
Also I heard that the light emitted from the screen cures athletes foot and baldness.
Is it your mother in law you are talking to? That might explain it.

Not in this instance!
That usually means a pain in the A**!
Lmao @ some of these comments, classics.
As for the headaches, try to think of another factor which is causing it, i've thought long and hard about the possible damage that wireless devices could do, but then you come to realise that there are waves all over the place and theres not a lot anyone can do about it to be honest.
Your neighbours wifi is probably beaming out some sort of signal all the time, your cordless house phone, your mobile, your families mobiles, the list is endless and it doesn't really help to begin to worry about something which you can't do a lot about, if you think that your handset specifically is malfunctioning then maybe theres a way to test it out? I'm not to up to speed on SAR ratings and such but i'm pretty sure theres a way to get a reading from it.
If it's always too high then maybe think about returning it and getting a new one.
sorry i couldn't be more help.
EDIT: I don't get a headache from mine either, but then again life is a headache at times so maybe i overlooked it
The fact that we are surrounded by waves is correct, however when you think about the inverse square law of power with distance, there is a huge difference in what amount of radiation you receive from your neighbors wifi compared to the handset stuck to your ear...

I got a mad headache too, but then again my buddy just found out his girl was cheating so last night was my responsibility to get him hammered and find him a rebound. (didnt work he ended up getting kicked out of the bar for pissing off the back deck..lol)
Bull**** aside, Dont hold the phone ON your ear, even 5/8" of an inch away makes a difference in radiation omitted. Or try using that sweet new Headset your phone came with.

Funnily enough I think I need to do that anyway!Im finding the sound from the Sensarion very tinny and buzzy compared to my Desire...
So unless im going crazy, thats two annoying things!
At least im not hearing voices yet, in my head anyway!
Haven't you heard that the Sensation has the death grip problem? It will kill you if you grip it too hard. Headache is the warning sign that you might be already gripping too hard.
All the nagging from my sister gives me a horrible headache. Sometimes I take my Sensation and massage my temples with the corner of the phone after a conversation with her.
I use the cat pictured to the left for treatment of frequent migraines. I would suggest call you primary care provider and have them prescribe you a cat.

I ALWAYS test my new HTC devices by putting them in my owen, if it passes that test then you are good to go!
Seriously, I have not checked the manual but it should say something about max and min operating and store temperature!
If the display still looks good, then you are OK.
The internal electronics can take up to a specified 45C but will even handle 60C at a push.
The least temperature sensitive section is the LCD. Ever seen one die left out in the sun?
Rule of thumb is...If the LCD is OK or the case plastic hasn't melted then you are not the dumb Sh^t you thought you were for not taking care of your expensive electronics...
I learned in my Climate Control class (yeah, 3 weeks all about automotive a/c, lame) that the inside of your car can reach 155+ on a 95F day sitting in the sun. I'm sure HTC plans for situations like a phone being left in the car, as all GPS and radar detector manufacturers do. So unless you think it reached 160ish, I wouldn't be too concerned.
If you find yourself dialling for an ambulance with your charred appendages, then your phone is too hot. Unless you can dial for the ambulance using your TouchPro, in which case you can assume it's fine.
The maximum operating temperature of the device is 60 Celsius (140F).
Heat is generated by current flow, so the faster the battery drains (or charges), the hotter the device will get. In particular, the more data you transmit and the faster you transmit it, the more power you drain, and the more heat the phone will generate.

Yep, very nice Ski slope/village in the Emirates Mall in Dubai.
They are building one here in Abu Dhabi in the Marina Mall but its only about 1/8th the size. We expect a rash of broken noses as they hit the bottom wall.

What's the device temperature?
Ok after the previous journey with hd2's thermal problems and since i got a new htc sensation, i found myself a little bored until either devs or htc gives us some s-off for our phones. So i've heard of this death grip issue and want to give it a try to find a hardware fix for it. Some of you may know me for the geeky technical approaches, so i'll try to get some stuff working here.
Anyway, i have the Sensation from about 4-5 days. I'm yet to determine the seriousness of this issue and how much wireless transmissions are affected.
After inspecting the device construction, it's simple to assume that the reason for the death grip is an interference between the antenna emissions and the EM interference from the human body (hand).
I'll be conducting a series of measurements using some hardware tools to find out the exact cause. Only after this i can begin to work for a fix.
So far this future fix must comply with these conditions:
1. NOT to void the warranty. The fix have to be removable and the phone brought to it's original condition.
2. More easier and safe then my hd2 reheating thread . The solution must be clear, simple and must make use of generic household materials.
3. The death grip issue must be solved in a satisfactory way so that the fix itself is worth the trouble.
This is the start of a new project, it may take a while for some real results to come and the first thing to be determined is if the issue is really user solvable.
So, wish me luck.. i guess i'll be starting tomorrow and post some pictures/things i find during the process.
Good luck, I'm also tempted to start some experiments. BTW it might be worth having a extra Back cover to due testing with. You can get one from HTC.
well, that's the idea. the method must be non invasive for that back cover and must also present no risk in damaging it.
I was so annoyed by the touchscreen issue I never got round to this one :\
I wanted to test if the problem could be "reduced" by simply adding a strip of aluminium foil along the cover... You can probably come up with something better
Thank you for helping!
Thanks! If you can even slightly improve things, you'd be a god. I love this phone, but the WiFi dying (in landscape) is the one issue that constantly nags. [:

Well it really depends on where your router is and how strong is the signal... I've tested mine with wall between it dropped significantly and even disconnects, while next to it only a bar or more but return to normal state after a few moments. But it shouldn't do that, and I've got asus wl520-gc router.

That's true but he was saying he looses it in landscape mode.
FOTA reduced the death grip issues for me..
i will be making some physical measurements on how the phone's transceiver produces and handles 2.43 Ghz ISM type signals. At this moment i haven't tested my device for the death grip but like i've said, i have some spare time and want to help on this.
By using an oscilloscope i will try see what's happening to the signal level in real time.

Looking forward to results. Godspeed.
I hate to sound like an Apple fanboy but I was not able to replicate this "accidentally."
Now it might have to do with the different frequencies of the Bell verison of phone, or my signal strength.
I watched a video of someone placing the phone flat on their hand and the signal strength completely dropping off. While I was able to drop a bar of cellular signal, it was far from the video.
I did not get any noticeable drop in wifi.
I went to 3 different tmobile stores and had 3 replacement phones. They all had death grip.
also don't think its EM. I lose wifi signal by covering with single sheet of paper.

Cover what with a single sheet of paper, the back of the phone? You lost the wifi signal completely? I get no effect by putting a piece of paper on my phone. Never heard of lead paper.
any updates ?
is it possible to solve it with hard cover... i read smowhere that with a silicone one won't solve it.

THIS IS THE WORST, MOST SHODDILY CONSTRUCTED PHONE THAT COULD EVER EXIST (Not)
The "build quality" of the phone is fine. There are a few problems associated with being early adopters, that a small fraction of people on XDA have. As far as I know, everyone with major issues had them resolved by returning their phone, in store and getting it replaced on the spot.
There are different displays one bye AUO and one made by Sharp, if you're having trouble and prefer either display you can go in-store and exchange it, after telling them the issues you're having with your phone.
Furthermore many of the so called "issues" with build quality are BS manufactured by XDA-ers. Like:
"If I turn of my screen and hold it at a 45 degree angle while shining a flashlight at it I can see a spec of dust under the screen, I'm really really worried ='("
or my personal favorite:
"When I press down on the buttons on the bottom of my screen I hear a slight creaking sound WTF HTC!?!?"
My personal second favorite is THE LAGGY SENSE ISSUE, which essentially goes like this :
"I saw a video on youtube and the HTC EVO 3D runs the HTC Sense homescreen carousel milliseconds faster and smoother than the HTC Sensation, WTF HTC !!! IS THIS WHAT WE'RE PAYING FOR!?!?!?"
- I would like to note that this issue only came into existence after said video made its way to the forums and someone decided that it was an "issue" that a slightly newer phone, with slightly better hardware and a slightly more optimized ROM, ran sense 3.0 slightly better than our phones do at the moment.
- They aren't buttons... this is a touch screen phone and just because they look like buttons doesn't mean that they should be pressed like buttons.
- Wifi-Signal attenuation while holding the phone, in landscape, a particular way IS real, but only if you are far away from your router. ALL phones experience signal attenuation when all or parts of the radios are covered, our phones do not lost Cellular data signal when held in landscape as has been erroneously reported in some places.
Now I will tell you about my experiences with the phone. Both cameras perform poorly in low light conditions and other than that it's a beast of a phone. Absolutely phenomenal.Strangely enough, I don't hear many people talking about this, actual issue where the phone is not performing as one might realistically expect it to perform.
I got my device on launch day and haven't had one "issue" yet. I have seen and others have noted that some dust can get inside of the phone's case, near the headphone jack. I would consider this another NON-issue as it has not been shown to cause any issues. Furthermore dust frequently gets inside of electronics, that's why the good lord above invented compressed air. Some XDA-ers inhale it then try to find issues with their devices, I will use it to clean my phone in a few months, the same way that I do to my desktop PC or the way my little brother does to his gaming consoles.
It's a terrible phone if you only use it at 45 degree angles, in the dark, while shining a flashlight on it, with the display turned off as you press extra hard on the touchscreen (because YOU believe they are buttons to be pressed and not a screen to be touched), using your phone a mile away from your home router, in landscape while completely covering the top of the phone and watching videos of HTC EVO 3D's performing slightly better and getting jealous.
If you use your phone like a normal end-user or even a power user and NOT a beta tester in a laboratory setting then the phone is amazing.
I rest my case.
Thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated.

I am not sure what these guys are referring to as having questionable build quality. If anything that would apply to the G2 and that was my last phone...well, right before the G2x horror.
You should be quite happy with the Sensation, if you have nothing against HTC Sense, as it is a very good device. Very good. I am certain it will be bested in some way by another high end Android phone in a few months, or weeks (there's always something new) but I am flat out thrilled to be using one right now.

Having had HTC HERO and A HTD HD7 I was more of inclined to go for the SENSATION,
But after hovering around both threads decided for the GAlaxy s2 due to better back camera and front camera(2mp) and also for the fact that it came with bootloader unlocked
ANd I guess that was the best decision I made cause of one more reason being....
You can flash the latest firmwares on samsung Devices with ODIN without the NEED TO ROOT which I think is really cool.
I am already on a leaked version of 2.3.4 running beautifully with gtalk video working really great and have not even rooted my phone yet
Just my thoughts.........
Hello everyone seen loads of posts about the low volume on this device htc sensation. What it the easyest way to get a louoder ringtone volume from my sensation. I tryed VOLUME+ but it did say needed a custom rom and did not work. Is there an easy way just to download a kernel or something jut to increase volume.
I dont want to use a custom rom. Unless it`s a htc rom with volume increase

I tryed VOLUME+ but it did say needed a custom rom and did not work. Is there an easy way just to download a kernel or something jut to increase volume.
I dont want to use a custom rom. Unless it`s a htc rom with volume increase

Try Equalizer. Works great for my device.
Custom roms are the best thing to happen to the sensation.

Yea, me too. I dont know whats up with everyone and their volume? Ive been on stock, ARHD, and now CM7 and volume is plenty loud enough! The alarm wakes me, no problem...The ringer makes me jump...And the music makes my ears hurt! How much more do you need?

I suspect that there are quite a high proportion of faulty phones coming out of the factories (and not just with HTC).
If I had a quiet phone, or unstable, I'd take it back and exchange it.
The more people that return faulty goods more effort that would be put into quality control.
Unless it's like a colleague who complained her SGS2 was really quiet, which turned out to be due to the case she kept it in! A small hole cut where the speaker is and she's now fine

Thats pretty sorry of phone manufacturers, isnt it? They rush stuff out and then put us through the trouble of getting it replaced. I know alot of people here have to send the phone to HTC to fix...Here in the USA, tmobile will send us a new phone FIRST and THEN we send back out defective one.
Every time I want to gripe about the dust issue, I remember the rest of the world that has to deal with it the hard way.
BTW-I am on my second phone and it also has a dust (or glue?) issue. I was told that tmobile would send me a new one for $20.00 and I send them my old one when I get the new one, but I am waiting for some time in the future when this issue is resolved. (Or maybe I will just wind up with a refurbished one that still has the issue?)
Uggg...I remember back when things just WORKED.
Matt
Well idk wuts up but my volume is significantly lower(at any given setting) on cm7 than it is on any other rom. And u can tell this by media volume/ringtone.......

Volume + is very effective on cm7. If you turn it up to loud it stars to distort though.

It'd be down to the factories (I knew someone who worked in an IBM hard drive factory and they'd often leave bits out, one colleague scratched his name into a disc platter!) not having high enough quality control.
If people accept defective goods then there's no pressure on HTC to apply pressure on the factories to improve their quality.
There's always going to be items that get through, and the more that are sold, the larger that group of faulty items is.
Is everyone else's power button on the ATT HOX feel like it's hard to push? Maybe not hard to push but it's such a low profile that I feel that I am having problems pushing it... Hard to explain. Just making sure there isn't something wrong with the phone that I have. Just took back a case to Best buy because the power button was soooo hard to push in it. Sometimes didn't register.
Thanks all
AJ
Not just you. I'm having a hard time getting used to it from my old Captivate. (Of course it's about 12 times better in every other category, so I'm not too upset!)
Oh I'm not upset.....I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S2 and this phone is by far the best phone I've ever used so far but since every phone I've ever used has had a raised power button be it on the side or top, I was just worried that maybe I got a defect but I guess I didn't.
That's why I love this board. So friendly and polite. Thank you.
AJ
Hmm... Was your case the platinum holster one? That's what I'm using right now and It's kinda ridiculous how hard it is to press. It registers maybe 25% of the time I press it. I use my nail now though so it works every time almost.

LOL! Yep sure was. Took it back to Best Buy and the returns lady said that this was the third one she had seen today returned! I just want a simple silicone case with good protection and camera lip thing. Is there anything like that out there for the ATT HOX?
Thanks all
AJ
Hehe, thought it might be the same one. I noticed the packaging to my case was actually opened when I bought it. Someone might have returned it Sunday morning xD.
Not really sure what other cases are available that fit correctly. I recommend not getting one on eBay. Most block the camera. There's a thread about cases and pouches in the accessories section.

I just actually picked up that case today! I'm going to return it as well because I too am having a difficult time pressing it. Also, the fourth row of the speaker grill was also being covered. Pretty poor design.

I got a rocketfish gel/silicone semitransparent grey case at best buy for $25...it is light, fits snug and doesn't cover the speaker..covers the back well so that when you sit it down, the camera lens is in no danger of being scratched as the camera protrudes a little bit without case...I have same issue w power button but it's not hard to press...it's that it's so low profile that its hard to feel it...fantastic phone and battery is amazing...got 26 hrs out of first charge...got about 9 on my Vivid...but it was a 1600 mah battery where this one is 1800 or 1850, not sure though..and phone is about 1.5 ounces lighter..battery is better because it is embedded...you lose power anytime you 'plug" in a battery where the contacts are...this battery is directly on the board so there is no loss...same principle applies to hard wired appliances compared to those with plugs...coax cables with multiple splitters result in signal degradation on tvs...I think this is why HTC opted for embedded batteries as people complained about battery life...although my various iPhones in the past had poor battery life...but it is best to charge phone ONLY when battery is down to 10% or less...every time u charge, you lose approximately 30-45 seconds of total battery per charge so the less you charge the better...
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Seriously? Do you really think your great batterylife is due to it being "embedded"(which it really isnt) and not having contacts(still has a connector)? Really?
Do you really think you lose 30seconds off your battery life by charging it before it is run down?
Ponderous.
Really erroneous info guy. Not helping. Did you just decide to make things up?
Battery life is better because of improvements with hardware. It uses less juice. PERIOD.
Lithium ion is extremely tolerant of charging from any level. Should have no adverse effect if you charge at any time, full, empty or in between.

YES, what I said is correct and not eronious as you said...been in electronics business for 30 years..I could go into greater detail but it would be over your infant understanding of how electronics work...of course the hardware helps bit that's just part of it..I was programming computers when the IBM 8088 chip came out as well as a wide range of electronic devices...I'm not trying to blow my own horn but I do know what I'm talking about...you should do your due diligence before you try and bash someone...and people wonder why many people left XDA who were a big help...I've never posted ROMs for this reason...I was thinking about it, but people like you just confirm my reservations..amateur...

Was your 8088 hardwired to your A/C at home so it was more efficient? Programming != electrical engineering.
Yes there is a TINY bit of loss by using contacts. It's an easy check with an ohmmeter. But it really only applies to high current applications, which we are not dealing with here. And no, it's not enough to make any measurable difference. And your coax analogy is ridiculous. We aren't dealing with gain, SNR, taps, etc. Geez.
Going back on topic, I now get 95% registers with the power button. If you press on the far left of the button it works almost every time with the platinum case. I think it just needed to be broken in.

Same here, but mine is worst cause this case that I have, has a hard rubber button
Ok austinguy, you really don't get it. I design, install and deploy:corporate networks, infrastructure(copper, coax, fiber), telephone systems(voip, copper, t1), install electrical systems, CCTV(dvr, network), wireless solutions(point to point, mesh, custom antennas), satellite, etc, etc. I have many years of learned and hands on first hand experience with the software, hardware, and real world implementation.
I stand by the facts.

Sounds a lot like what I do. What's your point? Doesn't Make you an expert in lithium-ion batteries now does it? Well... I guess the high-grade UPS systems we work with could, but you didn't list that or just don't work with them.
