Well guys its been about a year since I've switched from my iPhone 3g to an android device, and Ive had a g1, mytouch3g,Samsung vibrant
,mytouch 4g, and now my g2x, I've noticed one thing which apple beat all of these phones at, battery life, its ridiculous I have to turn off every feature that brought me to android for it to last through the day , I've been on my battery for an 1 hour and 10 min and my battery is at 73%, on top of that the apps take forever to reach us, I waited for ever for plantz vs zombies, I also don't like the fact that my 8 Mega pixel camera gets put to shame by a 5 megapixel camera on the iPhone, its getting really hard for me not to switch, hopefully when the merger is complete I can get an iPhone without worrying about unlocking it.

i couldnt find the post but someone posted a pic of the battery in an iphone its huge so that explains that one. as well as android doing a lot more in the background.
camera wise i dont know. i think the shots on the g2x are pretty good. but megapixels definatley aren't what make good pics my droid has a 5 megapixel cam and the pics are awful except in perfect lighting .
the people i work with that have iphones only complaint about their iphones is the battery life. funny .
there are rumors of iphone coming to tmobile anyways, so you may have the option either way.
i would like to see an android phone with the size of battery the iphone has and see how it does.
Your getting shifty battery life because you chose a dual core phone that is unable to shut off one of its cores. Also there is a lot more going on with Android. You have real time information along with syncing services for your push email, contacts, calendar and pictures. Its also hit or miss with the G2X. Some have decent battery life and others have ****ty. Mine is pretty good as it lasts about 15 hours with moderate use. I now use the Sensation for my main phone and it trumps the battery life on the G2X by hours. A couple days ago I removed it from the charger and didnt use it for 3 hours. After 3 hours of idling, my battery was sitting at 99% and that's with nothing turned off. During that period I was still receiving emails and my weather service was syncing. The reason why the standby is so good on the Sensation is because its able to turn off a core and scale lower than any processor to date. Once Ice Cream Sandwich cones out, all of them will be able to do that.
Bottom line: Android has a lot more going on than the iPhone which in mg opinion is just a smart phone for dummys.
One more thing: If you want to see cameras better than the iPhones, head over to the GSII or Sensation forum and take a look at the picture threads.

Its the nature of the beast. Its much easier to create apps for 2 phones and the same software than it is for 50 phones and 20 different software variants. Its getting better by the day and once the next big update comes (ICS), it should make it alot more easier for the devolopers to create apps.

You will most definitely be getting ripped off. Once the update comes, the value of the G2x will be high again and it will be two times the beast it already is; on the other hand with the speculation of the iPhone 5 coming this fall, getting an iPhone 4 right now seems downright stupid...

You know, battery life has been kinda awesome for me, which I know is a total anomaly.
The phone has been on for 16 hours, it has about 2 hours of "display on" time, with about 1.5 hours of web surfing, 0.5 hours of gaming, and 10 mins of GPS navigation. I'm still at 35%. Sync is always left on, same with 3G, unless I'm connected to wifi.
All of this was possible after the latest CM7 nightlies and faux's underclocked kernels.
On my old Nexus 1, I would be at around 30% at the end of the day with less than an hour's worth of display on time.
Give the guy some credit lol, he did leave apple for google welcome to the android family. Just remember, no matter what you think is wrong with your android powered phone it will still always be better than any iphone

Ok so by shutting off a core battery life ould get better? Sounds like it makes sense. So in theory a single core phone should get much better battery life? My galaxy S had awful battery life. I easily get 5-6 hours more use out of my g2x than the gs.....oh well maybe I should switch back to a single core phone

The phone makers make a phone they feels is stable. Then those of us that know the capabilities tweak them to get the best from them. I haven't had a phone I didn't hack (tweak) for 4 years now(even my iphones 2g, 3g, 3gs, and 4). All I can say is good luck and I hope you can find something that makes you happy stock. I'll never be happy stock. And androids the easiest to hack mod and tweak.

android= open and easily customizable ( with a lot of phone makers supporting the dev community including htc)
Iphone 2g/3g/4/5= closed and not even close to being as customizable as android.
Android phones= made by the phones actual maker, with os provided by google who also releases source code (inmost cases by google and the manufacturer)
Iphones= not even made by apple (ex. the iphone 4's chip set is made by samsung, and the touch screen is made by lg) Apple openly fights their dev community in a effort to keep their phone locked down ( they even filed a lawsuit which they lost), they never release the source.
The choice is yours

My gf just got a dx2 as a replacement for her fascinate. It's a nice device out of the box. I easily prefer my t-bolt with a nice Rom though. So what I'm saying is if you are looking for a stock experience and don't care about 4g than a dx2 wouldn't be a bad choice. There seems to be little if any developing for the dx2 so it wouldn't be my choice. The dual core isn't as impressive as you might think, although I did notice a little less lag using the camera.

I sell phones at Verizon and I would be lying if I didn't say that I steer people towards the Bolt. That being said I have used all 3 extensively on my down time and my preference really comes down to which has the most support...bolt.

+1 i agree as a rep my self i do rather like the AMOLED screen on the Charge but the dev community for the thunderbolt is what keeps me going
So what happens when a Verizon rep gets caught on a rooted tbolt?
they dont care as long as we are not promoteing it or even talking about it in store since it technically voids warranty. It is our device we can do what we want with it. i show mine to my bosses all the time and are just shocked at the improvments that have been made to it.
x2 if you don't want/need 4G (but trust me, once you see it, you'll want it). Charge if you prefer amoled display & don't mind Touchwiz & you're not a flash addict. Tbolt if you like to try different roms & kernels. Among the 3 phones you listed, the Tbolt dev community is most active

look at the speedtest in my sig. That is all the upgrade you need!!!
Faced with a similar decision and went with the bolt. Thrilled that I did. Great dev community and love the phone. 4g when I have it is sweet. Family members just got the x2 and in comparison to my bolt with Th3ory on it, the x2 feels wicked slow even with 2 cores behind it
If you don't care about rooting and different roms get charge. That display is gorgeous! Otherwise bolt. Forget about a 3G phone...
X2 was outdated before it came out. no 4g.
now if you really want a huge community go with thunderbolt
if you really reallly like touchwiz go for the charge
oh and if your afraid the thunderbolt isnt an update from the incredible? you'd be sorely mistaken. I used to have the incredible and this is so much better. processor is much stronger (can oc to 1.9) and the ram on this makes it run smooth as butter.
I personally think the Thunderbolt is a gorgeous phone. Loved it since the moment I got it. 4G everywhere allows me to download any new ROM's (200+ MB) in a matter of minutes. Community is damn near booming. Its a great phone, definitely will be sticking with it for a long time.

I went with the last week when my girlfriend and I moved to our own plan. Took it back 2 days later and got the thunderbolt... Best Decision Ever.. lol
Charge honestly felt like a downgrade from my Droid X... even with the 4G
Thunderbolt feels sturdy, charge... not so much
Charge screen is definitely more "vivid" but I feel that the thunderbolts screen was a step up from the droid x..
So while the Charges screen was pretty nice.. thunderbolt is still enough for me..
As far as battery life goes.. I know I only really had the charge for a day.. but compared to my first day with the thunderbolt the phones were relatively equal for me
In the end.. i say tbolt... but its all in personal preference.. never played with an X2

Do a little research. Android phones have been known to be crap on battery. The more we ask the phones to do the less battery they will have. Look in the other forums for Tue newer devices and you will see an average of about a day maybe a little more but that's about it. Hell the new dual core are showing 18 with minor use
I hear that the galaxy supposedly has pretty good battery life compared to the inspire. I guess its just different from different sources.

It also depends on how you use it. I have a buddy that has he galaxy s II and he gets about a day out of it with mild use. The only way to tell is to get it and see how it stands up to how you use it.
The days of phones lasting days without charge are long gone so charging every night is expected and accepted
I'm ok with it lasting 1 day, the problem is to get it to last the whole day lol.
I use apps like veetle, hulu, fb, and pandora and from what I heard the samsung screen requires less battery then the lcd on the inspire so hopefully that would work to my benefit.
I'm not sure yet if I should get it or wait till the end of the year and see if at&t gets something interesting because these upgrades only come around so often.

Yeah sense is a resource hog indeed but with the right tweaks it can be onenof the best over all UI as it all works together seemlessly. I run a senseless rom my self as i have my fav 3rd party apps for launcher, messaging, email and stuff so other then the dialer and contacts app witch is the best dialer/contacts combo I have come across. But it is about the same as the TouchWiz from Samsung or motoblur from Motorola.

lol yeah there are a few. My last phone was an inspire and I picked up a gs2 a couple of weeks ago. My battery life has over doubled using the same habits. moderate/light use I can get 2 days, I never ever thought that would be possible on an android. My gs2 has better battery life than my friggin iphone. I have allot of phones and the inspire might be the worst battery life of any of them, but I still love that *****. I actually traded one of my inspires for a focus, but wp7 has some serious growing up to do before I make the switch full time.
Not trying to **** on the inspire and not trying to sway your decision. The new htc looks crazy nice, but I have yet to use it so I have no comment. The things I will be looking at closely on it are cell reception, battery life, glass fit, and of course a usable speaker. Those issues caused me to leave htc, for the first time in a while I might add. Here's to hoping the new holiday is all that and a bag of chips.
If your just looking for an htc then I would say screw it and get the holiday, but if your not married to one brand I would go to the stores and use the phones. Read online in the forums about issues and complaints and pick the phone that best suites your likes and needs. buying on launch day is just gonna make you one of the guinea pigs, which is fine with some like myself.
In my opinion the gs2 is a better buy than the new skyrocket due to screen size and the cpu. I dont have lte here and would rather have the horsepower and smaller screen, 4.3" is plenty big especially at that resolution. The new atrix 2 looks pretty nice to, but I havent messed with it that much. THe new motopoop is much much lighter than the last. And unlike the first atrix, it doesnt lag like hell out of the box, gingerbread was a God send for the first one. Happy hunting
My Inspire battery is pretty good. I charge it at night and go to work. I'm on WiFi all day at work and frequently check fb and other things. Even some YouTube or Pandora. When I get off I put it on my carcharger for the 15 min ride home and that's it till bedtime. Wasn't great though till I got advance task killer. I kill pretty much everything bout every hour or so now its pretty good.

I love my g2x it was the phone i really wanted to get coming from a g1, but i settled for a mt4g first(also a great phone btw) Theres not really any other phone i would be interested in except maybe the epic 4g touch on sprint, but now that ive already decided not to go that route and wait to see what beasts of phones come out early to mid next year i have grown to appreciate my G2x even more since ICS will unlock all of our phones true potential and prolong its staying power.
I will admit some specs of the galaxy nexus are decent but the main dealbreaker for me is its no external sdcard. I feel like Samsung gimps the nexus line of phones so they can put most of their ideas and technology into their own galaxy s devices. The 1200x720 resolution display is awesome but i can achieve that as well on my g2x with lcd resolution or lcd density apps. HTC needs to make the next Nexus imho as they did the best job of all three so far.

I like it much more after finding this website and flashing a rom. It has some sweet power, but LG's quality control is... lacking.
Not to hijack, but how long does cell phone hardware last? Does the cpu, internal memory, etc go after a year or 2 or should it work for a long time?
Well, the phone, hardware wise is great, and throw in a custom ROM and kernel, you're good!
I love this phone. And when ICS comes out it'll unlock even more potential.
i have no major complaints about this phone except for the fact that i have to restart it twice a day because it gets "bogged down" too quickly. i don't even use many apps so it should be able to handle my light usage a lot better. once i restart it, it's perfect for like the next twelve hours :|

everything works great i get a slight popping sound in call drives me nuts brand new only used for 3 days so i use my nokia 3711 no reboots or or anything
To be honest, I liked my Nexus One better than this phone. Tech specs were (are?) beast when it first came out, but due to software limitations it's pretty much outdated at this point. Maybe I am hating on it too much but it's just not perfect in my opinion.
Bought mine in June and loved it! and currently, still loving it! im one of the Blessed few that got a perfectly working G2x out of the box minus (a instalock functioning GPS) which is now fixed thanks to the updated baseband. this phone is a SPEED demon. with all the necessary accessories to keep it cutting edge HDMI, 8MP Cam w/flash, FFC etc. i tend to go in and play with all the new "flagship" phones currently in the stores, and yet to see a phone that makes this phone look/feel "outdated" screen even still looks amazing even compared to the beastly SGSII. So the G2x is treating me AWESOME and im sure will continue to do so until my point of upgrade (if i even feel necessary to do so). Also special shout out to all the AMAZING developers that allow us to get a "new phone feel" with all the custom roms/ Themes and development etc.
Starting to appreciate it more. Wanted an htc amaze badly due to wanting to experience the sense ui. But after some comparing I would rather stick with this phone bcuz its perfect for me since running cm7 on it. Waiting for ics to blow my mind on this device. This phone is very underrated, I don't kno why but it is.
Tried the miui Rom and liked some of the features (mainly pop up texts that I can respond to without leaving a game or video) but switched to cm7 shortly after and am very satisfied. Phone doesn't lag anymore, runs smooth and I don't have to pull the battery out 4 to 5 times a day any more. In fact I may have to do it once or twice a week. I have a new fondness for my G2X now. Got it on 420 when they thought I was in line that morning for the sidekick lol. I may use this phone longer than ive ever used a phone before. Normally would switch every 4-6 months... almost did with the amaze 4g. But 500-600 bucks def not worth it.

I've had mine since late April and it's never let me down. I switched from a Galaxy S 4G, which I exchanged for the G2x, and I don't regret it one bit. This phone handles anything I throw at it with no problem. My GPS was basically broken until the new baseband update came out, now it locks in seconds. I've only had one random reboot since I've had the phone, and that was because I was messing with UV settings in SetCPU. I'm not looking to upgrade anytime soon.

Try using the handcent app, it does the popup feature as well. Usually for a 3D game like most Tegra 2 games it will take like five seconds to reload but you won't lose any progress.

Do you still get the same instant gps locks running bionix?
I came from a MyTouch 3G 32b. 528MHz processor, and 192mb of RAM... Talk about an upgrade!
No complaints at all. Came from an HD2 to this phone and it was worth it. Fastest android I've ever had.

Amazing phone! Came from an HD2 (which was also an amazing phone) and I'm just loving the speed in the G2x. I haven't had any dropped calls or random reboots.

Anyone know the differences between these two chips? The iPhone 5 seems to be getting far higher download speeds for me, and was wondering if there is some type of improvement in its chip over my GS3s.
IPhone 5 can't do simultanious voice and data but I think it gets more lte browsing time than the gs3

I'd venture to guess that's due to our much larger screen real estate.

Has that actually been proven? I was thinking all the numbers that Apple were claiming were probably off by a few hours plus on GSM networks to boot.
The iPhone also has a much smaller battery then the S3.
The iphone does NOT get more usage time than the GSIII.
The attached is directly from the Verizon website.
As far as the OP's question, I think it's just they have a better radio/antennae than the SIII.

I ran the speedtest.net app on an iPhone 5 at the Verizon store, and on my S3 right next to each other. Running the test 5 times, the S3 had higher download and upload speeds each time, by about 1-2 mbps.

yes it was proven, and the reason behind that is because the iPhone uses a single chip for voice and data, unlike other LTE CDMA phones which use separate chips
Gs3 has 3 antennas to handle voice and data over 3g and 4g. IPhone 5 only has the 2 and currently cannot do both. Lte has the capability to allow for both..... just not yet. It has not evolved to that point. The iPhone 5 handoff between 3g to 4g and no data is pretty snappy though. I ran a few test against my wife's iPhone

Errrrr...That thanks button is in the worst spot!
Anyway, I was talking about the battery life not the radios.

Battery life on iphone 5 will likely destroy the GS3. These oled screens torch batteries.
Even the ATT HTC OneX, with same hardware (mostly) and a SMALLER battery destroys the SGS3 in battery life.
With apple's optimized software and smaller LCD display, it will likely kill the SGS3 in use time. I'd venture it'll be easily double or triple the life of sgs3 in browsing time.

Read the reviews, that has not been the case at all, the S3 has a battery life advantage over the iPhone 5 in every area.. A pretty good one, add the fact that you can't swap an iPhone 5s batteries and it's a huge advantage to the s3..My S3 even gets better battery life than my fiance iPhone 4...And it's better than the 4s..By a noticeable margin.

OK I checked it out. I'm reading 6-8 hours of web browsing on a charge. I can't even get 4 hours of screen on time with the sgs3 doing little or nothing. So my point stands.

Well, you like bombast.
Have any references? I ask, because everything I've read seems to indicate that the One-X battery usage is - on average - not any better than the Galaxy S III. I'm curious how the HTC phone "destroys" my phone's battery life in a comparison, considering that I often forget to turn my phone off at the end of the evening and wake up to find I've still plenty of juice left before hearing the warning signal later the next day after additional phone usage.

I'm not in love with devices, I own a ton of them. Just venture into the att hox XDA forums and you'll find plenty of 1.5 day+ bitterly life screenshots with over 5 and sometimes 6 hours of screen on time. I own both devices, have run every ROM under the sun, its a fact. Ask scrossler who creates clean ROM where the longevity is at. Its not even comparable.
Over here in the sgs forums, people are quite happy with 15ish hours of battery with 3-4 hours of screen time. Guys in the hox forum would be furious with those stats. "Do I have a defective device"?
Anyways, sgs3 is a great device. But let's not start comparing battery life to hox, let alone the iPhone 5. Its not even comparable.

Let's not compare a GSM phone to an CDMA phone. We already know GSM devices get better battery.
I'm not bothering to read any reviews so take that into consideration when I ask this: How in HELL could Samsung get away with touting a little under twice the battery life than the iPhone5 if it destroys the SIII??? They wouldn't get away with it if it weren't at least semi true, Apple would have yet another lawsuit brewing for that.
Edit: not only that, but all SIII users would have to be compensated to a degree for the false advertising I would think. And Sammy isn't going to put themselves into that position.

And yet, what you offered above for GSM AT&T One-X performance parallels what I already described either of our CDMA Galaxy S IIIs tend to get and HAVE gotten as recently as a on a challenging holiday usage schedule.
I've often read One-X owners getting 3-4 hours of screen time and often less, as well - you know, variability does exist among phones that different users configure for their own needs. One-X certainly can get great battery times, though to compare best perhaps the Galaxy S III owners should cripple their multitasking options to match . . .
I am still continually amazed at the battery life in this phone and remark about it openly to my annoyed spouse at times. We never worry about our batteries during a given day out and only recharge at the end of the day or briefly during our short car rides.
The only drain on battery lately has been a seemingly rogue holiday live wallpaper that appears to have been removed from the Play store for good reasons.

Look, everyone's battery life will vary with usage. I'm pretty sure it will be different with everyone. Some people will get better battery life with thr iPhone and then some will get better battery life with the GS3. No reason to get into a major argument over this.
