Has anyone used viber yet?? Just wanted to confirm if its really free, they are marketing it for free International sms and calls.
I'm sure it's free. The issue is that, like with other apps like this one, the other person has to be using Viber as well. It isn't just free international calling and text to anyone.
Oh, on a side note, it does mention that any calls use your data, but not minutes. So, that is one thing to take into account.
I downloaded it this morning just for the fun of it... it ALWAYS runs int he background. i find it a battery drain...

Hi guys,
For me it is indifferent to the platform, while performing well the call recording function. I need this feature for my work.
What phone/OS do you recommend?.
Thx
It's not wise to look at only one single aspects of your need to make decision because you may pay too high a price in the other areas. Anyway if you're really really wanting to only look at this requirement alone, then leave out iPhone because it can only record outgoing call (e.g., with Acrobits Softphone) but not incoming calls. Winmo phones are excellent in this area. Not sure about Android.
Edit: I take it back. I was wrong to say that iPhone can't do it. It can be done with an application by the name of "CallRec.me" mentioned here:
http://forum.tipb.com/iphone-develo...itasking-phone-call-recorder.html#post1568474 It records both incoming and outgoing calls. Be aware of the legal framework of such practice though, but that's out of topic issue here. It's suppose to work not just in US but also outside US. I don't know all the details yet, but hopefully that'll give you a headstart in your investigation.
Cheers.
Thank you very much for your answers.
With any WinMo 6.5 device I can record incoming and outgoing calls? Any device recommendation?
I was using VITO audio note back then. Worked quite well for me. I think it will work on any winmo phone in the market today still.

Now I'm using iPhone 3GS. Then, I was using HTC Touch HD.
I have a Palm Centro, and I've been using the app CallRec for years. I believe it was $20, but you can always pirate it if you're cheap. It runs in the background and records every call to a folder on the SD card, named with the phone number, date, etc. Excellent record quality, and it's actually the only reason I haven't upgraded my phone yet. I love having an archive of all my calls, especially when dealing with lying customer-service reps.
I use G1 now...
Does somebody know if the new FroYo firmware will support call recording?
Has anyone used JuiceDefender? I've been testing the free beta and I'm not sure its doing much (set to default balanced). The Widget just says n/a but I thought it should say how much power its saving?
Yeah i've been using it pretty much since day one with my thunderbolt. It definitely increases battery throughout the day. It give me a figure of how much battery i saved when i shut it off and its usually from 1.8x to 2.05
Using since day one with my phone aswell.. This is one of those Apps I believe should come standard on android smartphones. Not only does it save you juice, but the options for settings within the app are pretty useful aswell.. Deft worth the couple bucks..

I assume you guys aren't using the free version then? Looks like its not having much affect with me, presumably because the free one doesn't control wifi.
got a problem with juice defender ... i use it to stop mobile data and turn it on just when device is turned on
so when someone calls me and leaves a visual voicemail i get the sms message but the audiofile is missing ...
so the phone cant download the voicemail when data is turned off...
is there a way to fix this ??
Do you mean a mms message? If so, as far as I know, mms won't work with "just" wifi. Im pretty sure the data has to be on. As far as a fix, to be honest I haven't looked around..

Free version didn't help me any either.
The Tango devs updated their the app and now video calls work. The audio issue has been fixed for the Droid Charge. Used it to make a call to an iphone friend and it worked flawlessly. Just thought I would spread the word.
Thanks for the heads-up.
I actually downloaded the tango app two days ago and uninstalled it and now i can't find it on the market.
Anyone else unable to find it? Has the icon changed?
Thanks,
Rick
I'll have to check this out.... it's funny, I bought a phone with a front-facing camera and never bothered using it, I guess I'll try this app out and see what the quality is like.
Few questions(dumb as they may be )
1: Can I call people who are on Skype with this app? I'm assuming I would have to wait for Skype to release a version for the Charge.
2: Does this app call other people with the app or does it just do a regular call..?
thanks :]
I tested it last night with the gf, pretty neat. It wouldn't connect at 3g (my area gets spotty between 3g/4g) but connected just fine over WiFi. From my experience, using a set of headphones is essentially mandatory for AT LEAST one party, if not both. With no headphones there was a significant amount of feedback on both ends, to the point where conversation was impossible. Perhaps this is just my experience though.
Finally, audio didnt work for the longest time
Sweet! Hopefully this will work between my charge and my wife's moto droid while she's out of town

1. No from what I have seen it looks as if the other party needs Tango as well. There is a contacts list from within and it automatically had some contacts in my list that already had Tango.
2. I think i answered #2 with #1.
Also I used it with speaker on and had no feedback . It was absolutely flawless that one time I used it. I was on 4G. It sucked battery hard though.
I just stumbled on an app called "Tablet Talk" and I love it so far...
I've been looking for something to use to send and received SMS from my TF and this app seems to fill the bill nicely.
It's fast; just as fast as sending messages on my phone itself. The interface is nice, and connnecting is a breeze...
Just letting everyone know in case they are in the market for an app like this.
yes great app. the dev is here also

I use it all the time. It has really been getting a workout since football season started. My son lives across the country and we have been wearing out the airwaves discussing the talent or lack thereof!
I particularly like it's ability to connect both via Bluetooth and Wireless.
Does this use Push for syncing messages?
I'm currently using SyncSMS, which does the job at a bare minimum of whats acceptable. Currently it does not support Push, and relies on preset sync-intervals or manual. Also, even tho it claims to use ~400kb storage, it hugs an entire 38mb (!!!). Quite critical on my quite crappy x8 phone.
If this is in any way smaller, and use Push, I'm all over it.
Edit: Gave it a quick spin (15 minutes refund policy.....). Seemed to be running constantly with icon in status bar (no Push?). Relied on IP address to connect, making it tedious to connect when changing WiFi networks. Shame I did not get a proper chance to see if having this app running 24/7 had any major impact on battery life. Un-installed/refunded for now.
I've found google voice good enough.

Which is great when you want someone to use two different numbers to txt you through.
I kinda keep my cell and text separate from my GV account, so this app may be what I need.
Yes GV is great but that's beside the point of this thread
I bought the app Tablet talk and am loving it. Simple, easy, and so far not a single issue. It was well worth the $2.99 I paid for it. I probably would have paid up to $4.99 for it above that I would have gone with one of the other offerings.
I leave my tablet and SGS III connected via blue tooth and leave the wifi just for internet usage. The small size of the app is really a good thing as well, since I only have the 16GB edition.
I would highly recommend the app to anyone looking to send SMS from their tablet, using their current phone number. For me it keeps confusion down with my contacts.
Yeah, I use Tablet Talk a little.. ahem.. I have over 6000 text messages in the messaging thread to my Fiancée.. And I use it ALL the time. When I have to use my phone to send a text I start to get the hives. It is by far the app that I use the most on my tablet. I have kind of a low self esteem and she is a HOT Russian (previous model / previous gymnast) and I need to make sure she thinks about me every 5 minutes or so..BRB.... Yeah.. she's still there. ahem.
Anyway.. Really is a great app. When there was an issue with MMS which I found right away after an update the dev responded right away and sent me code to fix it the next day and quickly updated it for everyone.
I of course just got her a TF700 for Christmas and I need to somehow get something that works with her Iphone now. It's too bad TT doesn't have an iphone client.. That of course would be the bomb.
Great app.

Yes, love it.
Very good app. You can sync messages through by connecting through bluetooth "less battery then wifi", if they are on the same wifi network "aka home", or if you are on your phones wifi hotspot "aka using your phone for mobile internet"
You can also sync all messages from your phone to your tablet so you arnt out of your conversation. You can sync anytime. Dark theme to save battery.
It is relly nice to text on from your number walking around your house while your phone is charging
I'm now too using tablet talk mine came with a phone dialer too for Bluetooth usage tho

I know Skype, Rebtel and Viber is very famous but imo those 3 are overrated and the international calling fees arent a great deal either.
Any of you know more international calling apps?
Gotta agree that those apps r overated, i do lotsa int' calls as well so i tried out plenty of apps.
Still switching bet apps but now im trying out an app called Global Call, theyre hving an event where u got double the amount you purchase.
That sounds like a good deal but what about the call quality?
Not gonna pay only to make shi*ty calls.
I would say call quality is one the best among other apps, but i guess it depends on where ur caling to?
btw they're having a 1+1event where they double the credits your purchase
just check it out on google play/itunes
