What is the best phone to record calls? - General Topics

Hi guys,
For me it is indifferent to the platform, while performing well the call recording function. I need this feature for my work.
What phone/OS do you recommend?.
Thx

It's not wise to look at only one single aspects of your need to make decision because you may pay too high a price in the other areas. Anyway if you're really really wanting to only look at this requirement alone, then leave out iPhone because it can only record outgoing call (e.g., with Acrobits Softphone) but not incoming calls. Winmo phones are excellent in this area. Not sure about Android.
Edit: I take it back. I was wrong to say that iPhone can't do it. It can be done with an application by the name of "CallRec.me" mentioned here:
http://forum.tipb.com/iphone-develo...itasking-phone-call-recorder.html#post1568474 It records both incoming and outgoing calls. Be aware of the legal framework of such practice though, but that's out of topic issue here. It's suppose to work not just in US but also outside US. I don't know all the details yet, but hopefully that'll give you a headstart in your investigation.
Cheers.

Thank you very much for your answers.
With any WinMo 6.5 device I can record incoming and outgoing calls? Any device recommendation?

I was using VITO audio note back then. Worked quite well for me. I think it will work on any winmo phone in the market today still.

Now I'm using iPhone 3GS. Then, I was using HTC Touch HD.

I have a Palm Centro, and I've been using the app CallRec for years. I believe it was $20, but you can always pirate it if you're cheap. It runs in the background and records every call to a folder on the SD card, named with the phone number, date, etc. Excellent record quality, and it's actually the only reason I haven't upgraded my phone yet. I love having an archive of all my calls, especially when dealing with lying customer-service reps.

I use G1 now...

Does somebody know if the new FroYo firmware will support call recording?

Fring is such a half-assed app

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work. I'm talking about the skype video chat feature with a PC. So frustrated.
I tried it for the first time today and I have to agree. It wasn't showing friends on Google Talk that were online in the real app. And it wouldn't show anyone online in Skype. And on top of that, it wouldn't do calls between Gtalk clients or Skype either, it just kept dialing and disconnecting.
I uninstalled it, it's obviously junk.
I haven't have any problems with it yet (I've only used it a handful of times), I would not complain anyway.
It's a free app and it's being run on a phone released less than a month ago.
Time will help.
your more then welcome to write a better app
While it does have It's quirks when it does work it nor bad

No offense to op. impo, i think its disrepectful to the devs working hard to make apps or this app in particular, to post a thread just to rag on their work, which is obviously intended to improve OUR user experience. Android is indeed open source and if i want better, i am more than welcome to write up something myself.....to improve the app a pm containing your problems in detail wouldve probably been a bit more considerate, and a proper way to handle this issue. Good luck with future app flamings

i think this thread is useless. fring works for me perfectly. video chat does go down but that is probably because of the fact that qik is so garbage and EVERYONE is trying to use fring all of a sudden. their servers were probably not ready for the massive onslaught of the EVO. I feel like i do have the right to bag on Qik because they are supported by Sprint and all their $$$ and their video quality is nowhere near as good as fring.

right on. unlike other free or lite programs, this one doesn't include ads and it works fine for me. i've no complaints, and even if i did, no loss, it's free. maybe you should get an iphone...oh scratch that. steve-o looked like he was frustrated when he called his boyfriend, ives. plus it only does iphone to iphone on wifi.

Agreed.. Qik has been a 100% letdown.. Sprint should remove their affiliation and offer better alternatives. The verification system for Qik is lame, the constant updates in the last week has been lame.. Overall a garbage experience.
fring is ok, aside from that i keep seeing MagnusRagnarok posting with those letters and size that suck, and i think his the only one who does it, and everytime i see those letters i skip his post i have seriously never read what he has to say, its disturbing.
Works quite well for me (Fring) and I use it all the time. Qik? Total POS. I've never been able to use is successfully, and even if it I did, I can only call other Evo's? GMAFB Sounds like Apple's FaceTime crap.
+100 Fring - combines all of my "chat" and video conference apps into one, and does it on my cell phone! I video conference with people on PC's all the time with Fring. Sure, the quality isn't HD or anything, but... do I have to say it again? I CAN DO IT - ON MY CELL PHONE! LOL
While I'm repeating myself... Qik can KMA. Sprint should put their development money into Fring... its a lot farther along, and those guys deserve a big break.
WTF is up with Fring ???? been having problems with it for like the last 30 minutes... cant log in.. tried changing password... even tried it from a pc and no dice
iPhone just got a Fring update that bring video chatting. Coincidence?

well i guess service just got worst... it no workie for me tonight either
It works for me, pretty flawless too. Fring > Qik
I don't like how fring looks. I tried video calls on the EVO and there is so much white space, it makes it look cheap and ugly. I wish you could drag video windows around or make them full screen.
I just did an EvO to iPhone video with my friend and i had to keep the volume about half way, otherwise he sounds distorted on my end. Kind of sounds like my speaker is blown(its not) if i raise the volume passed the half way point. I could hear him clearly though. There were times where he said he couldn't hear me at all and he said he had his volume all the way up. I hope these are lil bugs that get fixed. Otherwise, it's pretty good

Amen to that. Qik is garbage. I can't see anyone putting that app over fring. More options and IMHO better interface.
i think fring removed skype due to verizon's contract with skype...i.e. no more video skype from fring!

[REQ] Phone call recorder application

I'm requesting a phone call recorder that records internally instead of using the mic to record speaker output. A dev has a functional version that works on the Hero:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=806451
but this doesn't work on the Evo. I'm not sure if the method/exploit used to make that work is available on the Evo.
This is something I would be willing to pay for, as I actually have a need for this application. I'd like the app to be able to record these calls discreetly, in that it won't notify the other party that the call is being recorded. The dev could put a disclaimer in the program stating that the app is to only be used for lawful recordings, that the user is responsible for consulting their particular state's/country's laws to be sure their recording is within the limits of the law, and that the the developer bears no responsibility for any misuse of the app.
If anyone is willing to take on this project, or if there's one that exists (I have searched, extensively), please let me know.
A
Have you seen "phone recorder" on the market its free. Theres also one called "super call recorder" $1.50
Neither of them work, and I believe both are based on raising the speaker volume and just recording mic input. I'm trying to find an app that records internally.

I think a more accurate way to say it would be that neither of them work very well. That being said, I'm also very interested in something like what's being requested because what I've found out there is next to worthless...I would pay a bit for it too. If anybody has any suggestions on something that does work 'well' ( a subjective term I know ) then I'm sure we would all love for you to share!
me too
In fact, I think I have an idea for a workable hack that would sort this out. I would finance an experienced developer to deliver this tool. PM me if you are game.
why not just buy this application?
http://www.killermobile.com/applications/android/total-recall-android-|-call-recorder.html
I use it on my device and it works flawlessly
because it doesn't
Did anything come from this? I'm still looking for a solution for my EVO 4G...that works well!
http://db.tt/PxCGqATX
Give this a try, it seems like it works on some phones but not others. Main issue is that with some phones it will record one side of the call but not the other. Hopefully your phone is one of the ones it works properly on.

Maybe anthrax kernel? I think i saw it records 2-way calls or something
Try allcallrecorder, works well on my side and it's free
Sent from my GT-I9220 using xda premium
I think it has to do with the kernel and the actual phone. I've seen posts where some phones work well and some don't. My EVO has not been able to use any app out there to date. I'm always up for trying more...
I use Call Recorder on my EVO, its the app plus an appropriate kernel, currently I am on
MikG 3.11
Loinfish aggressive 1.8 (original version with auto brightness lowered)
I believe freedom kernel and anthrax are compatible. You must find a kernel that clearly states two way call record

Skype with working video?

Hello Community,
is it possible to use skype with video on the GalaxyTab?
I read somethin that i would have to cook flash into a custom ROM and such; my english is quite bad and my cooking skills are even worse.
I was hoping you might be able to at least tell me if its possible - and if "yes", how?
Thanks!
Steve.
AFAIK, video on Skype isn't available for any device. Hopefully they'll update it soon for front facing cameras.
Sent from my HTC Desire
I Read somewhere that they will be releasing a version VERY soon with this. Perhaps during CES. Hopefully its not just on the Iphooey platform...
Why cant you make calls on 3g? only wifi in US.
I can make calls anywhere, no problem.
But my parents, sister, step-parents and grandparents do not have video-capable cellphones. Or their contracts do not include a data flatrate which would be necessary for video telephony.
That's why i was trying to use skype.
PS: I found a teaser here.
As I mentioned earlier;
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/24/skype-finally-bringing-video-calling-to-mobile/
its for the Isheep... but hopefully we might get lucky. Sadly, this will be heavily carrier dependant. As long as they get a version out, I am confident the community here will get a working apk for any platform working and with 3G too.
I currently use Skype that has been hacked to work with 3G data (and even works with EDGE speeds). However, before Skype released their latest version, there were many apks that just didnt work. They either only worked for Skypeout in the US or was setup to work on particular networks. I am a happy camper now though. Just need a video app just like you do.
In the meantime, Tango is brilliant! I love it

Tango is a great alternative to any other app for face chatting.....granted, the quality of the video could use a bit of an improvement, but overall, best resource out there for us GTab owners

The problem with most of these alternative is the lack of desktop clients. When I travel for work, I'd quite like to use the Tab to keep in touch with the family, which really means I need either another Tab, or a desktop client.

ooVoo seems to have both tab & desktop client. i haven't tried it, because i hate to have to install yet another app to do another function that could have been provided by skype in the first place. maybe it is a good solution for short term until skype comes around and updates their software

Yeh - unfortunately ooVoo on the Mac doesn't currently support video to/from mobile devices, and my wife would want to use her Macbook!

I think I read somewhere Skype video calls are or will be available on the iphone. It's only a matter of time.

Video Calls work through Tango now

The Tango devs updated their the app and now video calls work. The audio issue has been fixed for the Droid Charge. Used it to make a call to an iphone friend and it worked flawlessly. Just thought I would spread the word.
Thanks for the heads-up.
I actually downloaded the tango app two days ago and uninstalled it and now i can't find it on the market.
Anyone else unable to find it? Has the icon changed?
Thanks,
Rick
I'll have to check this out.... it's funny, I bought a phone with a front-facing camera and never bothered using it, I guess I'll try this app out and see what the quality is like.
Few questions(dumb as they may be )
1: Can I call people who are on Skype with this app? I'm assuming I would have to wait for Skype to release a version for the Charge.
2: Does this app call other people with the app or does it just do a regular call..?
thanks :]
I tested it last night with the gf, pretty neat. It wouldn't connect at 3g (my area gets spotty between 3g/4g) but connected just fine over WiFi. From my experience, using a set of headphones is essentially mandatory for AT LEAST one party, if not both. With no headphones there was a significant amount of feedback on both ends, to the point where conversation was impossible. Perhaps this is just my experience though.
Finally, audio didnt work for the longest time
Sweet! Hopefully this will work between my charge and my wife's moto droid while she's out of town

1. No from what I have seen it looks as if the other party needs Tango as well. There is a contacts list from within and it automatically had some contacts in my list that already had Tango.
2. I think i answered #2 with #1.
Also I used it with speaker on and had no feedback . It was absolutely flawless that one time I used it. I was on 4G. It sucked battery hard though.

Bluetooth Headset Voice Dial Qurstions

I am trying to find out if the new OS on this has better voice dial support than the older versions of Android.
Currently I am using a WP7 phone and I am stuck with this phone because of the way the voice dial feature works with a Bluetooth headset.
With WP7 I can do everything from the headset and it reads back the number or contact name before it dials. It can also reply to txt via voice all without me touching the phone.
Is that a possible with this phone/OS?
How about with the ICS update for this phone?
Thanks for any input on this.
I can tell you that you will probably not be happy with android voice commands coming from wp7. It's gotten a little better with ics but still nowhere near as polished and user friendly as wp7. That's the one thing I miss from my Focus. I could be driving down the freeway and carry on a complete conversation via text message without ever reading anything or fiddling with my phone. The new s-voice leak from Samsung is nice, but still no comparison. If this is a deal breaker for you I'd stick with wp7 for now.

Thanks for the reply, it is really disappointing that Android still has not gotten it's BT headset voice dial support up to the level of being truely useful. I hope it is not a matter of patents on technology that is preventing it from doing so and one day (soon I hope) it will.
Thanks again.
